Chapter 18: Alphas & Truths

Dex's POV

THE REST OF THE JOURNEY to the werecat's home could be described in two words: long and silent. Nobody had dared speak to me sense my mysteriously fast healing. When we finally got there I was out of breath. Most of the journey was uphill, but unlike me the werecats didn't seemed to be distressed by the journey.

As we made our way through the woods they led me to the entrance to their camp. It was a dark cave. When inside I couldn't even see my whiskers. Then the darkness ended and I submerged in a blinding light. I looked around to see a small village filled with werecats. There was everything from little kids to old ladies.

I must have looked like I was in amazement because Lily nudged my shoulder playfully. I blushed, unable to hide my embarrassment. However, this place was wonderful. It was well hidden and nicely made. It looked like they had been here a while.

While I was still taking in the sights, a large group formed around me. Most of them in their human forms but a few had shifted in case of danger. The members of the group shifted into their human form, all except Sparrow and me. I wasn't sure I wanted to with this many hostile cats I might need to flee as quickly as possible.

"Where is Alpha Will?" Sparrow asked a young woman, who had shifted into her cat form. She gestured towards a large gap in the stone walls that surrounded the Pride of Werecats. Sparrow nodded and started that way. He gestured for me to follow and I had to run to catch up. "You are going to see the Alpha now." he said slowly, "I would shift into your human form if I were you. He doesn't take kindly to threats."

"Well I don't take kindly to orders." I retorted, "Or being treated like a toddler."

"You sure do act like one. You disobey orders and bluntly ignore people. No wonder your a rogue." He said, bitterly.

"Well it's not my fault I never had some fancy Pride I was born into. I have barely been a cat for a few months." I snapped back. I was really getting sick of Sparrow.

Sparrow said nothing, but he narrowed his eyes. He shifted to his human form and walked in, I sighed and shifted into my human form I wasn't sure if I wanted to enter or not. Finally curiosity got the better of me and I entered the gap.

"See I told you he'd come Sparrow." said a man. He was tall and had grey streaking his dark brown hair. He wore a red, plaid shirt with blue jeans. His eyes were what caught me most off guard though. His eyes were red, similar to mine when Nick was in control of me.

"I should have never doubt you Alpha Will." Sparrow said to the Alpha, "Although he was rather stubborn on the way in..."

"Did he cause you any trouble?" the Alpha asked, eyes hardening.

"No, no, no. Nothing I couldn't handle. Wouldn't get up though. Had to use force. Gave him a scratch to remember."

"Where?"

"His face..." mumbled Sparrow.

"Well I sure don't see it!" The Alpha protested.

"It healed. It was rather weird. He went mad for a second then got back up, perfectly fine. Scratch gone."

"What is your name?" The Alpha asked, addressing me for the first time.

"Dex. Dexter Marwood if you will." I said, honestly.

"Dexter." He said, as if trying the name out for the first time, "Well, I've heard a lot about you."

"You-You have?" I asked, not able to hid my shock.

"Yes, you live in Cloudcroft, you moved here this summer with your twin sister Mae. You still haven't told her you're a werecat. You are fourteen, and you are currently looking for your Uncle."

"How did you know that?" I asked.

"Well I have connections." He said, "Also a way to make people talk. Oh and your little friend, Charlotte, I think."

"What! You have Charlotte? Wear is she? Is she okay?" I asked, frantically.

"Yes, she is fine for now. I have one final way of knowing all theses things. Dear Dexter, I am your Uncle."

Mae's POV

I pounded on the old wooden door quickly. There wasn't much time. I looked at the rising moon and only hoped she would answer. Or that I had the right address. Finally the door heaved open with a creak. Dillan's face poked out and he looked at me happily.

"Can I come in?" I asked.

"Not a good idea." He said, simply.

"Care to explain why?" I asked. I needed to talk to them. It was really now or never.

"Well come in if you dare, but be warned that you might be mortally horrified at what you see. Or smell." Dillan said.

I pushed him out of the way and walked into the warm room. A fire was lit and I couldn't see the walls, it was so dark. I could tell they were covered in papers.

"Is Red here?" I asked him.

"No, she went to check on some family northwestish of here. I still don't get why she insists on being called Red."

"You don't like it?" I asked, curiously.

"Nah, I just like her old one better." He said. I shook my head and got back on topic.

"I need to talk to you about something serious." I said, "I do need to know that I can trust you though."

"You can." He said, eyes burning with seriousness.

"Okay, I need your help. Deep in the woods there is a unknown world to us. There are werecats and other monsters that hide in the night. They are real. Now Dex went and tried to find our Uncle, and he is crazy dangerous and I need help." I said. Wow did it feel good to get it off my chest. Although, Dillan wasn't taking it like I thought he would. His face was still serious.

Finally he said something, no more than a whisper, "This is bad."

"What?" I asked, confused by his reaction.

"Dex, is in the woods, by himself, right now?" he asked me. I just nodded while Dillan got up and started pacing. "Will might kill him! He tried to kill me last time I saw him..." Dillan trailed off.

"Wait. How do you know my Uncle's name?" I asked him.

"Mae. I'm sorry to be a bit on the crazy side here but we're in too deep." He said to me. "I need you to go now, so unless you want to be scarred leave."

"No, I will not. I want to know what you are hiding." I said.

"Fine your choice." Dillan said, as if it explained everything. Suddenly it did. I watched in terror as Dillan transformed into a beast I knew far too well. I looked from him to the walls, noticing the deep scratches that were carved into them. When I turned back to him I saw him covered in tabby fur and blazing green eyes.

"Yo-Your a werecat?" I asked shocked. Dillan just rolled his eyes and started off. "Wait!" I called after him. He stopped and looked at me. "I want to come with you." I said. He paused for a moment then, gestured to his back.

I climbed on as he started running. I clutched his fur as the wind tore threw my hair. I couldn't believe I was doing this. I was on a werecat and we were running through the woods. I had never met a werecat that didn't try to kill me. I hoped Dillan wouldn't. I smiled to myself and held on tight. I knew that I wasn't just going to save Dex. I was going to save us all.

AN:

Okay so we got a Dillan chapter! Can I get a whoop whoop? Whoop, Whoop! Just me? Okay! So I think I might be finishing this book fairly soon. I mean it's been fun, but we're done. I will be posting a squeal though! So don't fret your brains. I will also promise you that the next few chapters will be full of drama, hate, love, and whatever else I decide to put in there!

Will Mae find out Dex's secret? Or will Dex be dead first? Will I lose my mind writing this? Or have I already lost it? AND Why do I use fruit as some of the pictures? All theses questions might be answered(or might not be) in the next few chapters! But see you guys for now! Remember to vote and comment! BYE!

Picture is of Sparrow and Lily. They are just bigger in the book!
