Skye Johnson

Previously in the story, Skye reveals to her husband that she knows he has been affiliated with various crooks. She has offered him a divorce.

Please keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about divorce, so certain aspects may be completely wrong.

He freezes upon seeing the contents of the paper, before he nods reluctantly. "Alright." His shoulders sag in defeat. He glances up briefly. "May I have one last kiss from my wife?"

It stings, his return to formal, considerate, and respectful. Almost like he is putting me at arm's length. I deserve it though. Or perhaps, it is Ward who is getting what he deserves. After all, he's been keeping secrets from me, and not the good kind. He was consorting with villains. Maybe even was one.

I nod anyway and lean in to savor one last, passionate kiss.

It stops too soon, and I turn, walking away. I left Ward to sign the paper and drive away.

One Year later

Ward and I had a single kid before the divorce. Her name was Daisy. In the months after, I found that I was pregnant again. This time, I had no Ward to help me.

I had looked through the name book. A page falls out. A list of names in Ward's handwriting. On the top was what soon became the girl's name. Twilla.

Twilla was hard, but I made it through. Now I am a single mother of two beautiful young girls. Two young daughters of three and one. Daisy has been wondering about her father. She asks frequently if she can visit sometime.

I am always sad to say no. Her father made me very happy, and if I let her visit, he and I might end up in his bedroom, and I'd have his ring again.

A man arrives at my front door. He knocks like it's an emergency. This man smells of werewolf. They are like wendigos. Like Ward. Werewolves have limbs, a dog like tail, sharp ears, and sharp teeth. I wonder what this one's day power was. He was a doctor, I could tell. I was a hacker/programmer and Ward was a chemist. "What do you want?"

"Your friend, Tardi, needs you." He says. I stop to look into storm blue eyes. He had a skinny frame, and golden hair. Part of my brain went: Less handsome than Grant was. The other half thought: He's kinda cute!

Tardi was the codename of my teammate, Jemma Simmons. Leopold Fitz was called The Technician. Melinda May was known as The Cavalry. Phil Coulson chose the name of Captain America after some old comic he read. I had chosen Quake, and Ward ...

Ward had chosen SkyFire.

It had been romantic, but it seemed ridiculous now.

I knew what I had to do. I grab the children, and set them in the car. I give them each an Item of Faith. I told them to keep it safe.

I change quickly and then drive off to save the world. Again.
