Chapter 7

Keila POV

I stared at myself in the mirror. All my roommates had gone, with their friends, or getting ready for bed. I decided I might as well stay in, it wasn't like I had anyone to go to anyways. I started to brush my hair since I'd already had changed my clothes.

I stared down at the clothes I had, I had already seen everyone else in their pajamas, they were all so nice and new looking. I on the other hand, just had a plain t-shirt and checkered pants. Not much, I'd seen so many people with pretty writing on theirs, theirs were high compared to mine.

I decided I'd just put a sweater on top, it was cold anyways, and it would hide my boring clothes. I'd already tried my best to bring clothes that made me feel good, that made me seem special, but I knew I didn't have such thing, I just used the same thing over and over again. Just the usual.

I put my brush down and started to braid my hair, usual night routine, but it was harder with the sprained wrist, but I still managed.

Knock Knock.

"Keila, you in there?" I heard someone say on the other side.

I tied the braid with a hairband and opened the door to see a girl at the door. I was confused, I wondered why she was here. I knew who she was, of course, the girl who came back after a year; we just didn't know each other well, at all.

"Yes?" I said letting her in.

"Can I talk with you?" She asked as she sat on one of the beds. "I don't know you that well, but I thought it would be nice to talk with you."

"Of course," I said, still trying to process what was going on. "um... about what?"

"Just... well, not much." She said awkwardly.

I let out a small laugh and started to put my stuff away and sat on my bed, the bottom bunk. Soon, I found myself in a deep conversation with her, we talked for quite awhile until we both had to leave.

I rubbed my eye with one hand as I reached for my alarm clock with the other, turning it off. The other girls in my room woke up, they had told me to wake them up with the alarm, but clearly only one of them was going to actually wake up.

So I started to go to their beds and wake them up, soon, I had my other roomie waking them up, I'd already gotten ready, so I just went outside to the washroom.

As I went out, I saw Mr. Reiter come up the steps, I quickly rushed to my room, hiding the bandage behind my back, as if I was just fine, but he saw me.

"Keila," He said.

I stopped in my tracks and turned my head and put on a smile. "Y-yes?"

"What are you doing up?" He asked as he bent his finger, calling me over.

I walked towards him. "Just... up as early as usual."

"You wake up at 6:30 every morning?" He asked as he rested his hand on the railing.

"No, on school days I wake up at 6 am every morning, not 6:30," I replied, remembering to keep my arm hidden. "Wake up around 7 or 8 on non-school days."

I watched as he looked at me and finally he stared at my hidden arm. "Keeping something from me?"

"Oh! No, not at all," I said as I backed away just a step.

I heard a door creak open and I watched as two boys walked out of their rooms towards the bathroom, I could see their tired eyes, almost closing.

One stopped just for a second to stare at me and Mr. Reiter, but soon passed and just went on his way.

"I should probably um..." I stumbled over my words. "go?"

"Yeah, you should, get back in your room." I saw Mr. Reiter smile and turn away.

I walked away to the room and watched as the other girls groggily got up. I plopped down on my bed, just thinking about what happened.

Why had he worried so much about me? I wondered. It was just too much for me to take in, it's not like I was used to it.
