Chapter 16
Mr. Reiter POV
I was left to wonder what Laura meant. It kept me up, I just couldn't sleep. They talked, I wondered what I missed. I sighed as I tossed and turned in bed.
"You need to stop doing that, go do it outside," Mrs. Reiter mumbled as she pulled the blanket.
I sighed and got out of bed, walking to my closet, I changed my clothes and wrote a note, telling Mrs. Reiter that I'd be gone for awhile, to get fresh air, after all, it was already 5:00 in the morning, I knew that she wasn't working today, so I'd just go to school right away.
I got ready, and soon it was already 6, but I didn't have to leave for awhile. I thought I might as well go around, maybe have breakfast until the school opened.
I pulled out of the drive away and drove to school. It was 6:45, no one was really there yet, just me, janitors, and 2 or 3 teachers. I went inside and put my bags in my classroom, I planned to come by later. I walked out, saying hi to some teachers and soon I was walking around a neighbourhood near the school.
I stopped for a moment, looking across the street to see a girl looking out from her balcony. Using a bright blue jacket, and in a school skirt too, but I soon realized that I knew that girl. I watched as she left and soon, I saw her come back, probably to check how cold it was. I realized that I had been standing on the same sidewalk for a while, so I decided to sit on the stones behind me.
I watched as the girl left, this time not coming back, but instead walking on the sidewalk. I stood and walked to one side, waiting for her to come by.
"Keila," I said as I walked alongside her.
"Mr. Reiter?" She asked, staring at me.
"Yeah, now come," I said as I walked towards some stores.
"Uh... it's already 7:40, don't you need to be in school?" She asked as she followed me.
"Yeah, I do, but come, I need to get something first," I replied walking towards a Tim Hortons.
"Oh..." Keila said as she followed me.
We kept on walking and she waited outside the door for me. I came out holding two cups, one with frozen lemonade and one that was coffee. I was about to hand it to her but she didn't hold out her hand.
"I'm good, you didn't need to get it for me," She replied looking away. "It's yours."
"Here, just take it," I replied handing it to her.
She took it but didn't take a sip, she seemed to be feeling bad, or strange that I'd gotten it for her. We took a shortcut to school, and I watched as she walked away to her friends, staring back at me every so often. I sighed as I walked to my classroom, wondering if she'd ever tell me what happened.
As I walked in, I realized that she hadn't had her cast on, at least not that I could see. I wondered, was she just hiding everything?
