Chapter 14
Mr. Reiter POV
"Woooo! Go Keila!" I heard the girls yell out.
I smiled and watched as she backed up and grabbed the ball. I hadn't realized until now that Keila was such a good server. I'd never stuck around to watch her play, I always paid attention to those who needed the help.
I had, of course, chosen her on the team for her serves and moves, but I had never seen her serves like this; the fact that she has a cast makes it even more bizarre.
I saw her beaming, I figured she didn't get a lot of compliments. She took another swing and yet again, the ball hit in, and a hard to get one.
"You go girl!" One girl said.
They rallied, of course, I joined in. I watched as the team played, I could see them improving. I hit the ball and watched as it went over the net. Soon, the ball was hit back, and I watched as it flew over, I knew it would be a hard one to get. One of the girls passed it to me and I set it to Keila's direction, I could tell, this would be a tough one.
"Mine!" I heard Keila yell.
I watched as she dropped down, arms out ready to pass the ball. Her knees hit the ground and she saved it, next landing on her hands. It was the last hit they could have, 3 hits per side after all. I saw the ball go over the net and hit the ground. Keila had just saved the ball, a cast on her arm, and a hard to get ball.
TWEEET
"And that's game! 19 - 25." The other coach, Mrs. Reiter, said.
"Wait, who won?" One girl asked.
"That team," She pointed at my side and I smiled.
"Good job girls, remember, work hard for the games okay?" I smiled as I walked over to my clipboard.
I chatted with them, the last five minutes, like usual. I started to talk about saving the ball and not giving up on it and all the girl's eyes turned to two of the girls, Sarina and Keila. Sarina was definitely one of the best players on the team, and I'd seen her saving the ball quite a bit.
"Don't forget, do whatever you can to save that ball, go for it," I said as I put my hand in the middle. "Let's cheer, then you'll take down the net."
We did our cheer and soon the girls were taking down nets. Keila didn't take them down, instead, cleaned up the balls, and helped with the curtain.
I watched as everyone started to leave, and I could hear tidbits of their conversation as I walked behind them.
"Keila! That save though!" Kesiah said to her.
"Oh, that was nothing, you should've seen Sarina's," came the reply. "Plus, it wasn't like it did anything."
"You're kidding, it literally won you guys the last point!" A girl said as she walked up to them.
"Yeah well, it's not like it's going to do any good for me anyways," Keila replied as she kept on going.
I saw her look around and then at Kesiah, the other girl had gone, so now it was just them.
"Kesiah..." She said as she started to unravel the cast.
"Yeah...?" I could see her glasses drop, her serious face on.
She gasped quietly as she stared at her hand.
I couldn't see anything but from what I saw next, told me, something had happened.
