Chapter 31 - Time and Space
3rd Person
Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, his padawan Ahsoka Tano, and young padawan (y/n) (l/n) are caught in the middle of a treacherous battle between good and evil!
The scales now tipped toward the dark side, our four warriors must guard against attack as they plan their escape.
A great weight has been placed on Anakin's shoulders, for it is now that he must face...
Who he really is.
As for (y/n)...
He must face what he's done.
(y/n) POV
"Pitter patter."
Rain splashed onto the makeshift training saber I'd fashioned for myself.
"Pitter patter."
Ever since the Daughter's demise, the downpour had been without end.
Lightsaber Form III, Soresu: Skyscraper.
I performed a series of short strokes, staying mindful of my footwork as I did so.
"You're quite diligent in your training, aren't you?" Master Kenobi blurted out, surprising me.
"I don't have a choice, Master Kenobi." I answered, gritting my teeth as I performed another series of flourishes.
"Your stance is good, but you need to relax." Master Kenobi lectured, prodding my arms. "You're too rigid, like a stone spire. Instead, you need to sway with the wind, like a tree."
Or like a Skyscraper.
Taking his feedback, I consciously loosened my muscles ever so slightly.
"Like this...?" I inquired, extra unsure as I waved the stick around.
"Already looking better, keep it up." Master Kenobi informed, his bushy beard crinkling as he smiled.
After cycling through my arsenal of form III techniques, I took a moment to catch my breath.
"Sorry... I should... be helping you all fix the ship." I huffed, still being observed by the Jedi master.
"Oh, don't worry about that. There's only room for one person to work down there anyway." Master Kenobi remarked, brushing it off. "Why don't you come inside?"
"Sure." I nodded, following Master Kenobi up the extended landing ramp of the crashed shuttle.
Sitting at the top was Anakin, deep in thought.
"I'm getting a little tired of how unreliable the weather is here." Master Kenobi remarked, leaning against the bottom of the crashed Shuttle.
The Son's cathedral was still visible in the distance, glowing an eerie green through the raindrops.
"Some might say that's part of the appeal." Anakin quipped back.
"You did well, Anakin." Master Kenobi stated, getting serious. "How do you feel?"
"I'm not sure we're doing the right thing by leaving." Anakin sighed, shaking his head. "The Son is consumed by the dark side."
"And if we stay, we may be used to the dark side's advantage." Master Kenobi cautioned.
"Clang!"
Just as I was about to offer my own spin on things, Ahsoka arose from the opening in the floor, wearing her mechanic goggles and everything.
"Well, you want the bad news... or the really bad news?" she asked jokingly, looking between her master and his master.
...She seemed to be averting my gaze.
"Well, let's try the bad news, laced with a little optimism." Master Kenobi requested.
"We've got two cracked shilo pins, a busted power converter... the engines should be fired twice to dump debris, and the backup vents need charging." Ahsoka listed off, showcasing her vast engineering knowledge.
None of that meant anything to me.
"Sounds terribly downbeat." Master Kenobi stated, stroking his beard again.
Flashing a cutesy smile, Ahsoka hopped back into the open panel.
"Can it be fixed?" Master Kenobi questioned, raising his voice so that Ahsoka could still hear him from below the deck.
"Uh... I can reroute the primary initiator, weld the dampening vents, and that might give us enough power to leave the atmosphere. After that, I have no guarantees she'll hold together." Ahsoka articulated matter-of-factly.
Gibberish.
"We'll take our chances. Better than staying here." Master Kenobi declared, walking outside again.
"I thought you were the mechanic." I wisecracked, pointing to Anakin.
"Well, I don't feel like it right now." Anakin responded, snorting a singular laugh.
After rummaging around the back of the shuttle for a bit, Anakin returned with one of the spacecraft's two jumpspeeders.
I followed him down the ramp, where we found Master Kenobi.
"Where are you going?" the senior Jedi inquired, sounding wary.
"To see the father. I'm not convinced that the son will be contained here without our help." Anakin confessed, resolute. "Perhaps we should make a stand."
"Anakin..." Master Kenobi sighed.
"If I don't get the father's blessing to leave, it'll haunt me forever." he stated, mounting the speeder with a determined look.
As the incessant hum of the speeder grew faint, a silence spread out between Master Kenobi and I.
"Didn't the Father already tell us to leave?" I posed, breaking the silence.
"I thought the same thing." Master Kenobi groaned, exhasperated. "Perhaps Anakin thought that he was separate from that, considering his role in this ordeal."
"As the chosen one... the one destined to bring balance...? Whatever that means..." I asked, trailing off with uncertainty.
"Well, the Father certainly seems to think so, but Anakin?" Master Kenobi questioned. "Anakin has never been one to leave his future in the hands of fate."
"But what if, in a way, that's how he plays into its hand?" I shot back, getting philosophical.
"That's the question, isn't it?" Master Kenobi chuckled, enjoying the debate. "Do we allow things to play out as the force wills it, or do we interfere? Or... is interfere even the correct terminology? The force works through us, after all."
"I still don't get it." I admitted, beginning to overthink.
"Oh believe me, it's all terribly confusing." Master Kenobi concurred, stroking his beard.
"Well, what do you think?" I pried, scratching the back of my head with my metal-covered hand.
The seasoned Jedi master paused for a bit, pondering the matter.
"Someone once told me..." Master Kenobi began, his eyes glistening with sentimental memories. "My old master once told me to be mindful of the future, but not at the expense of the moment. That's how I choose to approach these things."
3rd person
Somewhere beneath the blanket of stars, the Father waved his hand to open the circular entrance to a polished stone structure.
A tomb.
As he descended the steps, so did his eyes... filling with sadness as they settled on the sight in front of him.
His daughter's lifeless form... bathed in the rays of what might have been moonlight.
"Forgive me, daughter. I am an old fool... who believed he could control the future." the elder lamented, placing the sacred dagger in his Daughter's hands. "Now you are gone... and all is lost. Sleep well, my child. Sleep free."
The Father waved his hand, and ornate stone slid over his daughter's body... sealing her grave.
As he exited the tomb, sealing the entrance as well, the Father became aware of a presence approaching him.
Anakin POV
"You should have left by now." the Father announced, turning as I ascended the moonlit mountain.
"Our ship needs repairs." I stated bluntly.
"Do not underestimate my son. He will seek your ship to escape our isolation... and sow terror through the universe." the old man warned strongly. "And while you are here, he will use you to do it."
"What will you do... now that he's given himself over to the dark side?" I inquired, unsure of how the old man would fare in his dying state.
"It is my actions that have unleashed great danger on the universe." the Father admitted regretfully, his beard looking even whiter. "I must... kill him."
"But he's too powerful for you alone!" I declared.
"Hmm, perhaps... perhaps not. The force will decide." the Father stated, unfazed.
"I can help you." I offered.
"The choice is no longer yours to make... both our destinies are clouded." the Father replied, beginning to descend the slope I'd climbed.
Suddenly, the Father paused, gesturing the the area around us.
"This place is strong with the force. Darkness has no hold here." he declared. "Go, ask, and you will know what to do."
Nodding I descended the hill, the night sky overhead.
I traversed the landscape for a while, walking over cracked earth and shattered stone.
There were ghostly lanterns as well, most likely placed by the Father... or his children.
...
"You have grown strong and powerful, just as I imagined." an unknown voice voiced.
Cautious, I my eyes darted around, until I saw him... on top of a rock, next to one of the planet's many moons...
The otherworldly, transluscent form of...
Master Qui-gon Jinn.
"Master?" I questioned, unsure whether or not I was hallucinating.
"Do you believe you are the chosen one?" he posed.
"How... can I know?" I posed back, going along with the strange encounter.
"I can tell you what I believe." Master Jinn stated. "I believe you will bring balance to the force, that you will face your demons and save the universe."
"And... and this creature of the dark side, do I leave, or do I stay and kill him?" I begged, desperate for guidance.
"Neither." Master Jinn answered cryptically. "Look deeper. You will find another way."
"I don't understand." I muttered, bowing my head.
"Not far from here, there is a place which is strong in the dark side of the force. You must go there." the late Jedi master advised suddenly.
"And... destroy the son?" I inquired.
"Remember your training, Anakin." Master Jinn stated, beginning to blend into the blanket of stars."Trust your instincts."
"Master... Master!" I called out, wanting more.
But... he was gone.
If he had ever truly been there to begin with.
Ahsoka POV
"Might I suggest less sleeping and a little more work?" Master Kenobi advised loudly.
I opened my eyes, awoken from my slumber.
"Ugh... sorry, Master Kenobi." I apologized shamefully, taking off my goggles.
"Here. This should help." he stated, handing me a cup of water.
'Just what the doc ordered.' I thought to myself, feeling rejuvinated as I sipped the liquid.
"We need to change plans." Master Kenobi declared, seeming troubled. "You must focus on the firing drives... disengage them."
What...?
"But... I'm almost finished putting this junk heap back together, and now..." I trailed off, throwing my hands up in bewilderment.
"Just... do as I say. We don't have much time." Master kenobi insisted, pushing the other jumpspeeder toward the exit ramp.
Oh... of course, what else.
He was going after Skyguy.
"Mm... you're the boss!" I snickered to myself, placing the goggles over my eyes once more.
(y/n) POV
After Master Kenobi left the shuttle, I nervously made my way to where Ahsoka was performing the maintenance.
"A...Ahsoka...?" I called, hesitating for a second.
She immediately jolted up like a startled animal, spinning around to face me.
When our eyes met, I saw it again.
My memory of my berserk rampage was hazy, but that look in her eye...
The fear.
It was impossible to forget.
"I..." she started, stuttering.
"Ahsoka, I'm sorry." I started, struggling to find the right words.
Before I could continue, she interjected.
"I... I want you to know..." Ahsoka started, clearly troubled. "I don't blame you for anything. What happened wasn't your fault."
"No, that's not..." I began, moving closer.
She flinched, hunkering down into her tinkering space.
"I just... need some time... and space for a bit." she muttered, crouching out of view.
I'd been shut down, but the brief exchange had eased some of the tension between us at least.
Hopefully.
Still... was it really not my fault?
When the Son ordered me to attack Ahsoka, I had done so without question.
But when he'd tried to... dispose of me, I'd resisted.
I'd clung on to the scrap of power I'd been given.
What did that say about me?
Obi-wan POV
"Where's Anakin?" I demanded, having immediately crossed paths with the Father as I stepped outside.
"He came to me for guidance, but at the crossroad, only he can choose." the Father stated cryptically, towering over me as he walked closer. "The force will be his guide now."
"I don't like this. What have you done?" I accused, suspicious.
"I... have done nothing!" the Father vowed, his green eyes pleading his honesty. "I am merely letting the will of the force take shape."
"Where has he gone?" I asked, intent on locating Anakin.
"To the well of the dark side." the Father answered hauntingly.
Anakin POV
After zooming past phantom trees, and passing through canyons, I found the place that Qui-gon had referred to.
A pit, an orange glow emanating from the top.
I took the speeder into a spiral, diving into the well.
It was hot... scorching hot, with veins of lava etched into the walls.
'Reminds me of Mustafar.' I thought to myself, recalling the time that Ahsoka and I had gone there for a mission.
Eventually, I got to the bottom of the bottomless pit, and the well opened into an underground lava lake.
There were lavafalls pouring out of cracks in the ceiling, and most notably...
A slab of volcanic rock in the center, with a strange symbol etched upon it.
As I landed, I took a second to take in my surroundings.
...I felt it too, the irresistable pull of the dark side.
It was intoxicating... strong... Qui-gon hadn't lied.
"Welcome." a familiar voice greeted, causing me to spin around. "I believe there has been a misunderstanding. We really don't have to be enemies."
The Son.
Holding up his hands as if we were old friends.
"You murdered your sister!" I spat, pointing my finger at him. "The force is out of balance... I have to stop you."
"Must you?" the Son questioned, his red eyes filled with trickery.
"Pssshew!"
I ignited my lightsaber.
(y/n) POV
Hearing a commotion outside the shuttle, I rushed down the landing ramp.
Ahsoka soon followed.
"Anakin has gone to confront your son, hasn't he?" Master Kenobi alleged, talking sternly to the Father.
"Deep within this planet... exists a place where all that is dark is channeled." the Father answered mysteriously, the stars shining on his pearly beard.
"And how do I get there?" Master Kenobi inquired, throwing his leg over the side of the jumpspeeder.
"You cannot interfere!" the Father rebuked severely.
Master Kenobi wasn't one to back down.
"The way I see it, if we were not supposed to interfere, Ahsoka and I wouldn't be here in the first place!" he shot back, turning to Ahsoka and I. "Look after the ship. I'm going to find Anakin."
Anakin POV
"nnnnnnnnnnnnnn."
My blue blade hummed as I prepared to make a move.
"Shhhhew."
Before I could, the Son ripped it from my grasp, disabling it with little effort.
"There is no use for such crude implements here." he spat. "...I have a gift for you."
"I've had enough of your trickery!" I spewed angrily.
"Mmmmmm, but you'll like this one. I promise." he assured, magma particles sparkling around him. "What if I could show you... the future?"
He danced around me like a better sizing up a pod before a race.
...
https://youtu.be/ht1VagqoASw
Without warning, a sharp pain stabbed through my skull.
Images flooded through my mind with little rhyme or reason.
It burned.
"No! No! Stop it!" I begged, clutching my forehead.
"Know yourself... know what you will become!" the Son ordered, his voice booming.
Waves of black mist clouded my inner thoughts, enveloping me in a storm of hazy memories of the future.
"AAAaagh!"
"NO!"
Voices... cries of pain...
"I will not look!" I proclaimed, willfully blinding myself.
"The force is strong with you."
"Zzzzzzzhhh!"
"Anakin, please!"
"Psshhew!"
"You were my brother, Anakin!!"
"A powerful Sith you will become."
"BOOOOOOM!"
"I hate you!"
"No. No. NO!" I shrieked, unable to stop myself from seeing everything.
As the screams and explosions died down, one thing was left remaining.
A slow, sinister, mechanical breathing...
And a mask.
As the mist dissipated, I was left with my hands on the obsidian slab, my head bowed.
"I will do such terrible things." I moaned, my voiced tortured with grief.
"Yes." the Son answered, saddened. "But it doesn't have to be that way. The choice... is still yours to make."
"How?" I asked.
"The future... by its nature can be changed!" the Son insisted eagerly. "Join me, and together we will destroy this emperor you see in your visions... and we shall end war, corruption, and suffering throughout the galaxy...!"
"Will we bring... peace?" I inquired.
"Of course..." he promised, handing me my lightsaber.
At that moment...
To the magnetic pull of the dark side within the well...
I gave in.
Ahsoka POV
"Kkkkkkkkkk."
After fidgeting with the shuttle's control panels for what seemed like hours, I heard the faint crackling of static.
"Finally!" I exclaimed, speaking into the channel. "This is Jedi shuttle 634 calling on all secure channels for help... do you read?! I repeat: we are stranded and need immediate evac! Come in, please!"
Obi-wan POV
The 'Well of the Dark Side' was more of a crater... a massive puncture in the surface...
As if the planet had suffered a gruesome stab wound.
As I took my speeder into the well, a rush of heat blasted over my face.
Once I reached the deepest part of the well, I parked my speeder next to Anakin's.
So... he was here.
He...
"Tap... tap..."
I heard someone approaching.
As I turned around slowly, I was relieved to see it was Anakin.
"Anakin! Are you all right?" I asked, glad to see him.
...
Then I noticed it, and my heart sank...
His yellow eyes, surrounding by a dark shadow...
"There has been a change of plan..." he stated, force pushing my speeder into the lava. "Sorry... you will not understand what I have to do... to end the clone war. You will try to stop me."
My eyes widened in shock.
"ZZZZzzzzzzzhhhhh!"
Without warning, the Son blindsided me with a lightning attack that sent me convulsing to the ground.
"Anakin... why?!" I cried out, nursing my abdomen.
"I'm sorry..." he apologized, resolute in his choice. "I have seen that it is the Jedi... who will stand in the way of peace."
After jumping onto his speeder, Anakin zoomed back up the pit, going who knows where.
"He's mine now..." the Son gloated gleefully, transforming into his winged form and flying after his newfound ally.
Left alone with no means of escape, I pondered what to do.
They would go after the shuttle, of course.
Evidently, whatever the Son had done to (y/n), he'd done to Anakin as well.
Ahsoka POV
While fidgeting with the array of wrenches I had sitting above me, a voice came crackling through my wrist communicator.
"Ahsoka! Come in, please! Can you hear me? Ahsoka!" Master Kenobi stated desperately.
"Yes, master! Any success with Anakin?" I asked.
"No... quite the opposite." he answered grimly.
"Master... what are you saying?" I inquired cautiously.
"Anakin has joined with the son..." he revealed, causing my jaw to fall to the floor. "Do not engage him."
"But...!" I blurted out.
"Just do as I say! Listen to me... you have to disable the ship." he ordered.
"But I just finished putting it back together." I stated, exhasperated.
"Ahsoka... please listen. We have to prevent Anakin and the Son from leaving." he insisted, begging for my cooperation.
"Yes, master." I obeyed, gritting my teeth.
Just as I nabbed an essential part from the console, a horrible thought popped into my head.
(y/n)...
Where was he?!
https://youtu.be/-xJy74IyU_s
(y/n) POV
I was swinging the makeshift, wooden saber when I heard the buzzing of a jumpspeeder approaching.
As soon as Anakin arrived, I sensed something was wrong.
Then I looked into his eyes, and I knew.
I saw myself.
The desire for power.
A rising tension began building, neither one of us making a move.
The two of us, alone...
Watched only by the stars.
My hand went to the lightsaber at my belt, and I sensed the kyber within...
Bleeding... still writhing in pain.
As I stared down the chosen one, one horrible thought hung over my conscious.
A wish... desire I was deeply ashamed of.
'If only I could use the Son's power again.' I thought.
"Stand aside, (y/n)." Anakin commanded, ending the building tension.
...
I said nothing in response...
And I didn't move from my spot.
My hands quivered, shook like pottery in an earthquake.
My legs wobbled, wracked with nervousness.
Whether I had the Son's power or not, there wasn't a planet in the galaxy on which I could stand toe to toe with the chosen one.
Suddenly, I felt an invisible force seize me, and I was thrown out of the way.
Ahsoka POV
"Stand aside, (y/n)." Anakin growled.
I shivered, not wanting to see the color of my master's eyes.
I could imagine.
After a moment, I heard a thud, possibly coming from (y/n).
Hopefully he was okay.
"Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap!"
Anakin lumbered aboard with heavy footfalls, making his way toward the cockpit.
I was perched on the ceiling, like a spider.
When Anakin passed under me, I waited a moment before dive-rolling down the landing ramp.
(y/n)'s crumpled form was right next to the speeder.
"Come on!" I hissed with a whisper, pulling a dazed (y/n) onto his feet.
"Ahsoka!" Anakin yelled as we made our escape.
(y/n) POV
For the entirety of our ride, Ahsoka and I didn't exchange a single word.
I simply held onto her waist as she drove the speeder.
When we found the lava pit Master Kenobi had gotten himself stuck in, he was making an earnest attempt at climbing to the top.
"Hmm! Nice job." Ahsoka remarked, smiling at Master Kenobi as she hovered beside him.
"What took you so long?" Master Kenobi grunted, hopping on behind me.
The speeder was cramped with three people, and we had probably exceeded the weight limit...
But, it seemed like it was working.
"I think you you know what." I stated, answering the rhetorical question.
"Here. I did as you said." Ahsoka spoke up, handing a shuttle part to the master. "The shuttle's going nowhere without that."
"Good, that gives us some time to rescue Anakin." Master Kenobi sighed, grabbing ahold of my waist.
Anakin POV
As I walked out of the shuttle, frustrated, the Son was waiting for me.
"I can't make contact with anybody. I don't think anyone will hear my signal." I informed gruffly.
"My father... still has hold over this realm, but I will be able to draw any ship here soon." the Son declared, crossing his arms.
"If I know my old master, he, too, will try to stop us." I warned. "Together, with your father... they could be a formidable opponent."
"I can turn the tide in our favor." the Son insisted, pointing to the ground. "Stay here."
With a roar, he took flight, disappearing into the stars.
...
"What did he show you?" a low voice inquired.
Behind me, the Father revealed himself.
"I've seen what I become... and I cannot let that happen." I answered simply, horrified by what I'd seen.
That I become... him.
"And for this, you join him?" the Father questioned, apalled. "Your destiny can change just as quickly as the love in one's heart can fade. Nothing is set in stone."
"But I will cause so much pain." I spat, disgusted with myself, feeling the scar on my eye burn.
"If there is to be balance, what you have seen must be forgotten." the old man proclaimed, pressing two fingers to my forehead.
In an instant, I felt a great flood wash through my mind...
Everything...
Gone...
Forgotten...
As my eyes drooped shut, I fell to the ground.
3rd person
The Son touched down to his sister's tomb with a respectful grace unbeffiting of his character.
When he unsealed the entrance, he did that too with great respect and care.
All the while, a grief-stricken frown was carved into his face.
He opened the stone coffin within to see his sister, the life drained from her face.
"So cold..." he whispered, caressing her cheek. "It's ironic, my sister. You were the only one... I truly loved!"
The Son gently freed the sacred dagger from his sister's grasp.
He took a moment to gaze upon her body, before putting everything back the way it was.
Anakin POV
As my eyes slowly opened, I struggled to remember what had happened in the last few hours.
"Where.. am I?" I grunted, groggy.
"I have brought you back to my monastery." the Father answered, sitting on his knees in beside me.
"What happened?" I inquired further.
"My son broke the laws of time... and showed you... what you should never have seen."
"I don't... remember." I lamented, curious.
"I have erased that time." the Father proclaimed. "We shall never know."
(y/n) POV
As we flew toward the Father's monestary, I caught sight of the gemstone atop it once more.
A massive, pure white crystal, radiating light throughout the realm.
What... was it, exactly?
Kyber?
"Master!" Ahsoka suddenly cried out, seeing something that I didn't.
We circled the topmost inner chamber before touching down, where Anakin and the Father sat together.
"Are you all right?" Master Kenobi cautiously asked his former padawan.
"I think so, but we must stop the son once and for all." Anakin declared, fixated with his duty.
"We have little time, and you'll get only one chance." the Father told Anakin. "You know what you must do."
If I hadn't known any better, I would've thought the Father was me... talking to myself...
"How quaint..." a sinister voice mocked from above, heralding the Son. "My own personal send-off."
He came down from the stars, levitating without any wings to speak of.
"I ask you one last time! Do not leave, my son!" the Father begged, confronting his son.
"You have no power to keep me, old man." the Son ridiculed, clenching his fist. "You must understand by now, this planet is not my destiny!"
"What you will do will destroy all that is good! I beg you, restrain yourself... and stay!" the Father pleaded.
"I cannot." the Son replied simply, shaking his head as if he was burdened by a great purpose.
"And then... it shall be. I love you, my son." the Father proclaimed, saddened.
"Do you?" the Son brought into question.
"Pssshew!"
Taking the initiative, Anakin's lightsaber flared to life...
And the chosen one struck.
"Kssshh!" "Kssshhh!"
He struck the Son twice, but, predictably, the plasma had no effect.
After repelling each strike, the Son seized Anakin's throat, lifting him up like it was nothing.
"Pssshhew!"
"Pssshhhew!"
Master Kenobi and Ahsoka ignited their sabers, preparing to assist.
I grabbed mine, feeling the crystal's pure agony as my hand grew closer to it...
I had to, I had no other options.
"Pssshhhew!"
My red saber screamed to life.
The Son grinned at me with malice as he tossed Anakin over his shoulder.
Ahsoka and Master Kenobi jumped into the fray, attempting to push the Son back...
His force power was far beyond theirs... they were thrown back in an instant, with the Son collecting their weapons.
Immediately after their fall, I flashed toward the Son, spinning around him with terrifying speed.
"Kssshh!" I struck, expecting nothing, and that's exactly what happened.
Receiving a backhand to the jaw, I flew back toward Ahsoka and Master Kenobi.
All four Jedi were out of the picture.
Seeing that his son was distracted, the Father seized the opportunity, summoning an object strapped to his son's waist.
It was... that dagger from before.
"What?!" the Son exclaimed, laughing in disbelief. "You're going to kill me now?"
"I held hope that you could resist the dark side..." the Father mourned, running his fingers along the ancient blade. "But I see now... there is no going back."
My stomach turned as I saw the Father point the dagger toward his own chest.
"Father..." the Son whispered, horrified.
In one swift motion, the Father pierced himself with the dagger.
"No! What have you done?!" the Son screamed, running to pull the dagger from his father's chest. "It did not have to be this way!"
"Yes, my child... it did." the Father stated solemnly, embracing his child. "You and I are tied together, and your strength runs through me. This way, I take your power!"
"Please, don't die!" the Son begged, grief shining through his crimson pupils.
"I always knew... there was good in you." the Father gasped, pulling his Son closer.
Behind the Son, Anakin had been creeping closer for a while, unnoticed.
The Father nodded at him.
"Psssshhew!"
"Sssshhhhhk!"
Before he could make a move, Anakin ran the blade through both the Son and the Father.
This time, the plasma worked like a charm, melting through both celestial beings.
"And so you have betrayed me, father." the Son muttered weakly.
After letting out one more gasp of pain, the Son collapsed onto the decorated floor, dead.
"Ssshhhew!"
Anakin retracted his azure blade.
https://youtu.be/fZKRCqxs5cc
"It is done." he declared, kneeling to the Father.
"And now... I die..." the Father stated, his tone bittersweet. "My heart broken, but knowing the role... you will play."
"And what is that?" Anakin questioned, as if he didn't already know what the Father meant.
"You... are... the chosen one! You have brought balance... to this world!" the Father coughed, on his last breaths. "Stay... on... this path... and... you will do it again for the galaxy! But beware... your... heeeaart!"
With one last elongated word, the Father keeled over.
He was dead, but what was even stranger...
Was that he faded... his body vanished from existence, his robes and fancy hat left behind.
The four of us stood over the deceased Son, as well as the Father's clothes he'd left behind...
None of us were quite sure what to think.
Regardless, without the Father's presence, it seemed that the entire realm of Mortis was collapsing.
"BOOOOOOOOM!" "CRACK!" "HMMMMMMMMMM!" "BOOOOOOOOM!" "CRASH!"
All around us, whether close or far away...
Mountains were falling from the sky.
I looked up, laying eyes on the massive white crystal as it slowly descended.
When it met the tip of the monestary...
It shattered.
And then, the light that it had contained was set free...
A massive, blinding explosion.
The blinding white light swallowed us, and, for a brief moment, we were cast into an infinite void...
And then, inexpicably...
We awoke within the shuttle, out in deep space.
"General Skywalker, come in!" Captain Rex called out from the hologram on the console.
"We read you, Rex. Can you hear me?" Anakin checked.
"Yes, sir, standing by... we were worried. You were... off the scopes there for a moment." Rex commented.
"A moment?" Anakin chuckled, confused. "We've been gone more than a moment, Rex."
"Sir, I don't understand. You'll need to explain." Rex stated formally.
"You..." Anakin started, turning his head to exchange glances with the three of us. "...wouldn't believe me if I told you. We're coming in now."
Strange.
While we'd lived through days within Mortis, it had only been seconds for Rex.
I didn't think anything of it at the time.
A/N
And there's the Mortis arc. I know it's a little boring to retread ground The Clone Wars already covered, but it's important. Trust me on that. Now we get back to original content. Also, I intend to add some content to chapter 28 at some point. I don't like doing that, but I forgot to add some crucial scenes. They don't affect this arc, but they're important for the future. I'll post an update whenever I add that. Next arc will be pretty bonkers though. A turning point, if you will.
