Chapter 30 - The Price of Power
3rd Person
Sent to discover the origin of a mysterious distress call!
Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, his padawan Ahsoka Tano, and her close friend padawan (y/n) (l/n), all stranded on a distant planet.
Later they discover three beings, more powerful with the force than any Jedi have seen before.
The Father keeps a fragile balance between his Daughter, who aligns with the light side, and the Son, who drifts ever closer to the dark.
With his strength failing, the father tests Anakin, determined to confirm Skywalker's status as the 'Chosen One' spoken of in legend.
Now, we find Anakin at the monestary, about to hear the Father's proposition, whatever it may be.
Anakin POV
"Do you feel your destiny?" the Father pried as I watched the others walk away. "You must see it now. I am dying, and you must replace me."
"Replace you? I can't stay here." I insisted, pushing back against the old man's demands.
"But... this is yours!" the towering elder contended, gesturing to the colosseum floor. "It has been foretold! The chosen one will remain to keep my children in balance!"
"No." I denied simply, backing away.
The old man, clearly shocked and disappointed, closed his eyes and looked to the ground.
For a moment, his long, drooping beard appeared to grow whiter.
"I... cannot force you to do this." the Father reassured, a juxtaposition to his foreboding tone. "The choice must be yours. But leave... and your selfishness shall haunt you... and the galaxy."
(y/n) POV
As we walked away, I sensed something out of the ordinary.
Like I was being watched...
Danger!
I whipped my head around, catching the Son's laser-like eyes boring into me.
"What? You want some?!" I taunted, trying to seem confident.
In reality, my hands were shaking. If the Son had attempted to kill me, I knew I would be hopelessly outmatched.
Without warning, Ahsoka moved herself between the Son and I.
The Son snorted sarcastically, leaving with his sister thereafter by the way of the sky.
I snorted too, but silenced it enough so that Ahsoka couldn't hear it.
"I don't need you to do that for me." I muttered under my breath, glaring at Ahsoka back until she turned around.
After the Father returned our shuttle, it was time to go.
"Ready to get out of here?" Master Kenobi inquired to Anakin, who stood alone at the foot of the landing ramp.
After a few more moments, Anakin climbed aboard.
"We shouldn't stay any longer... the Son gives me the creeps." Anakin admitted cautiously as the shuttle ramp folded behind him.
"It's not just the Son." Master Kenobi chuckled, jutting his thumb at a floating mountain visible out of the window.
"He, last night... the Son appeared to me as... as my mother." Anakin confessed, barely choking it out in a whisper that was intended only for Master Kenobi.
Ahsoka and I feigned ignorance despite having overheard, confirming it by exchanging a glance.
"That's right..." I mumbled to myself.
Anakin hadn't joined the order until late into his childhood. He knew the warmth of a mother's love. And, according the the faint whispers that resonated throughout the temple corridors, he also knew the sorrow of losing that love.
'I wouldn't know...' I stated silently, briefly lamenting that fact.
I wondered to myself... which cut deeper, losing the love of a parent, or never having the chance to experience it?
After takeoff, our shuttle began climbing through the atmosphere.
The landscape of... Mortis... was more visible, and bizarre, than it had ever been.
Almost like it was a planet-wide organism.
Out of nowhere, Master Kenobi struck up a conversation with me.
"(y/n), I have to say, your speed is impressive. No matter how many times I see it, it's always a marvelous sight." Master Kenobi praised, smiling at me. "It will serve you well during the trials."
"What do the trials actually entail?" I asked, feeling there was a gap in my knowledge.
"That... is a good question, (y/n)." Anakin chimed in, chuckling.
"You mean you don't know? You're a Jedi Knight!" I exclaimed, sure that he was messing with me.
"Well, Anakin didn't face the trials." Master Kenobi clarified simply.
"But...!" I began, then quickly cut off by Ahsoka.
"The war has changed a lot of things." Ahsoka stated matter-of-factly.
Anakin POV
"Yes, it has. The council is largely busy with wartime matters... the trials still happen from time to time, but I haven't witnessed one in a while." Master Kenobi further explained, his tone grave. "These days, instead of conventional trials, most knights are proven worthy through their own personal trials on the battlefield."
"That takes me back." I stated, reminiscing.
Flashback
"When the council requests your presence, it is always of great importance." Obi-wan stressed, berating me as I beheld Coruscant from a temple outlook.
Centimeters away from the window, I stared at my faint reflection, eyeing his long braid of hair that clung to the side of his face.
"If I'm late for another scolding, does it really matter?" I grumbled, removing my brown hood.
"Scolding?! You're not a little boy anymore, but as long as you are my student, you will heed my wisdom." Obi-wan scolded, closing the gap between us.
"You're right, I'm not a little boy, and as far as your wisdom goes... you're no Qui-gon Jinn!" I spat cruelly, without thinking. Regret seeped into my heart as soon as the words left my mouth. "Master... forgive me, I-I didn't mean..."
Recovering from the initial shock of hearing my harsh words, my master removed his hood, as I had.
"I know, I miss him too." Obi-wan confessed, laying a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Not a day goes by that I don't look to his widom for guidance. I've done my best to pass his teaching to you, and in our time together, you have proven to me that you are capable of all he believed you would be. And now we must leave our roles as master and student. It is time we became... brothers."
There was an odd finality to his monologue.
"Master...?" I addressed quizically, raising an eyebrow.
When I entered the dim council chamber, my suspicions were confirmed.
"Pssshew! Pssshew! Pssshew! Pssshew! Pssshew! Pssshew! Pssshew! Pssshew! Pssshew! Psshew! Pssshew! Pssshew!"
Twelve blades of light gleamed into being, surrounding me in a circle.
I recognized a few of the masters' faces beneath their hoods: Master Plo's, Master Windu's, Master Gallia's, and Obi-wan's of course, which was beaming proudly.
"Step forward, padawan." Master Yoda commanded, the standing atop his fancy seat.
I complied, stepping forward before falling into a kneel.
'So... it's really time...' I thought to myself, overcome with satisfaction.
The ring of sabers buzzed as the masters that wielded them brought them to the floor.
"Anakin Skywalker..." Master Yoda began.
The anticipation was killing me.
"By the right of the council..." the wise, little master declared, holding his tiny green lightsaber over my shoulder.
Yes, those words.
"By the will of the force..." Master Yoda continued, passing his saber over to my other shoulder.
Finally.
"Dub thee, I do... Jedi." the green elder proclaimed.
"Skrrrrrshshk!"
With one swift motion, Yoda sundered my padawan braid from my head, the severed end singed from the heat.
"Knight of the republic." he finished.
When I rose, I did so as a fully-fledged Jedi Knight.
End Flashback
(y/n) POV
I made my way to the back of the shuttle, intent on using the extra time to practice. After encountering beings of such unimaginable power, I needed to get stronger now more than ever.
The private compartment was cramped, but it was still the only area within the shuttle wherein I could swing a lightsaber.
I rummaged around for one of the arcane, cubic holocrons my master had gifted me before my departure.
Opening a holocron was relatively easy for any Jedi, so long as you weren't under the age of eight.
As for me, it demanded no less than five minutes of mentally-draining focus.
The long, hard-fought battle finally came to an end once I saw the tetrahedral corners of the blue cube begin to rotate.
"Not bad, padawan." an instantly recognizable voice stated as her holographic form materialized from the holocron.
'Master...' I acknowledged silently, my initial surprise transitioning to intrigue.
"You probably didn't expect to hear from me like this... maybe you didn't want to either..." Master Gallia trailed off, evidently bothered by something.
Her image flickered spontaneously as she crossed her arms.
"I don't have the courage, much less the right to face you right now." she continued "Regardless, I hope that these recordings will enable you to continue your training... in spite of my absence."
I shook my head, though still listening attentively to her ramblings.
"I don't have the energy, much less the time to try and understand you... master." I lamented, slightly frustrated.
"Enough of that, let's begin." my master's recording insisted. "Start with a warm-up... any form you'd like."
"Psshew!"
Following her instructions, I freed my green blade from its prison.
I entered my stance.
Lightsaber form I, Shii-cho: Attack.
Lightsaber form I, Shii-cho: Defend.
I performed a series of wide, arcing slashes, coupling them with a powerful, rigid guard.
I repeated the basic motions several times, mixing in a stab here and there.
"Kssssh!"
"Ksssssh!"
My swings were strong and unpredictable, to the point that I accidentally scratched the shuttle's walls a few times.
Fortunately, I'd remembered to depower the worn saber into training mode this time.
In my hands, my lightsaber became a comet in orbit, locked into a crescent motion by my gravity.
As I ramped up my tempo, my motions became more elaborate, transforming into more advanced techniques.
Lightsaber form I, Shii-cho: Immovable rock.
Lightsaber form I, Shii-cho: Epicenter.
Lightsaber form I, Shii-cho: Crescendo.
"That's enough." I suddenly heard my master's recording call out.
"Shii-cho, I assume." Master Gallia surmised, causing me to freeze in shock. "Or Ataru, that's my second guess."
"Yeah, yeah..." I muttered.
"That brings me to a bad habit of yours, one that needs correcting." my master's afterimage continued, pacing back and forth.
"Of course it does." I mocked.
"Form I is basic, and, notably, reliant on strength. That's why you gravitate toward it so much. However, the reality of lightsaber combat is that, more often than not, strength is unnecessary." Master Gallia declared, morphing her posture into that of form II.
With one hand behind her back, she unleashed a flurry of thrusts.
"Try to guard when I'm going all-out, see what happens." I said to the recording, miffed.
"Do not miscontrue my words, there is a time and place for strength, as well as absurd feats of power. For example... a scare tactic." Master Gallia lectured on, her ghostly form continuing to pace. "But more often than not, it only takes a single brick to topple a tower."
"What I'm saying is... deepen your understanding of the force, of yourself... learn to exercise what you have instead of grasping for what you do not. Don't start down that dark path." she urged.
A hushed silence settled in the room.
Master Gallia's face fell, I could deduce as much even from the flickering recording.
Something was eating at her conscious, like a Geonosian brain worm.
https://youtu.be/7aHSRcphi_A
"In truth, I've been lying." Master Gallia finally spoke up, frighteningly serious. "I didn't want to discourage you, but no more. The truth is, it may be impossible for you to master all seven forms."
My heart dropped to the grated floor.
"It may be impossible for you to attain a level comparable to someone like my master, or Skywalker." she continued.
My heart melted through the ship's hull, plummeting back down to earth.
"You may never even surpass your friend, Ahsoka Tano." she continued.
My disembodied heart smashed into the planet surface, splattering into oblivion.
"Sometimes our efforts are lost on the universe." Master Gallia finished, the harsh reality of her words still systematically shattering my spirits.
...
"Maybe you feel hopeless, especially after I said something like that. I said 'may be impossible,' padawan, not 'is.' I for one still believe in your resolve." she encouraged, still rational. "The only way to find out the truth is by pressing on."
...
Her words were lost on me, I was already convinced...
Especially after witnessing Anakin's ultimate feat.
"Let's move on. I know you brought along your lightsaber, let's take a crack at it." my master's holorecording instructed.
I did as she asked, laying the parts on the floor in front of me...
But I made no effort to put them together.
I was barely listening anymore.
"You may think of your missteps as failure. In reality, they are lessons." my master stated.
Suddenly, she dropped her own lightsaber onto the floor.
It shattered violently, the pieces scattering across the floor.
"Think of Master Voss's psychometry... every fragment, every failure is a piece of the puzzle... a part of a larger picture in motion." she continued.
"When you truly understand yourself, your shortcomings, the point of origin that caused the failure... then everything will become clear." she continued, picking out a faulty component and replacing it with another.
With a simple motion, she reconstructed her lightsaber in less than a second, the components forming together like a cloud before solidifying.
"Pssshew!"
Good as new.
"Even for a Jedi master, it takes great concentration and effort to manipulate multiple objects simultaneously." Master Gallia continued. "The reason I make it look so easy is because I've practiced assembling my lightsaber thousands of times."
"I know every part by heart. It's like a muscle I've trained for years." she continued.
She paused.
"Keep trying, and learn through failure. And, in the end, if you can do nothing but fail... then do it well." she commanded.
Anakin POV
"Anakin."
While submerged in a slumber, I heard a voice faintly echo.
"Anakin."
The voice repeated itself, more urgent this time.
I stirred.
"Anakin."
My eyes snapped open.
I sat up, groggy as I massaged my eyes.
I was back in the strange land, surrounded by mist and shallow springs.
Ahead of me, I saw myself.
A reflection, surely.
Then myself started walking toward me.
Maybe I just hadn't quite woken up yet.
"It's true what they say. You are the chosen one." my doppelganger stated, arousing my suspicion even further.
'Better be careful.' I urged myself, flashing an outward smile to keep up appearances.
"Join me..." my clone implored.
Suddenly, the imposter rose, changing his form until his true self was revealed.
The Son.
"Together, we can change the balance of the universe, my friend." he offered, not sounding the least bit genuine.
"You must know I will never join the dark side willingly." I proclaimed, resolute in my conviction.
"How simple you make it." the Son chastised. "Light and dark, as if there is one without the other. Aligned, you and I can restore balance wherever we go... peace to the universe."
"By becoming a Sith. Never!" I bellowed, refusing to fall for his tricks.
I turned my back on the Son, firmly rejecting his proposal.
"WE WILL DESTROY THE SITH!!" the Son shrieked, causing me to look back as the tall force-wielder burst into flames.
"And the Jedi..." the Son finished, the orange inferno giving prominence to his evil grin.
With a ferocious roar, the Son transformed into his gargoyle form, the inferno swelling along side him.
He then lunged for me, and I reflexively protected my head with my arms.
...
My eyes snapped open, bringing me back to reality.
I sat up, Ahsoka immediately taking notice of my awakening.
"Were you having a nightmare?" she asked, resting her hand on my shoulder.
"Something like that." I answered, brushing it off casually.
Suddenly, the shuttle experienced a wave of turbulance, with Ahsoka and I having to grab onto something to keep our footing.
"If you're done napping, I could use a little help here." Obi-wan called back from the cockpit.
"I'm coming." I pledged, taking a step forward...
And then I heard Ahsoka's gasp.
As I turned around to face the Son, he waved his hand, shutting the door to the cockpit, and Obi-wan.
"Leaving so soon?" the Son questioned angrily, having locked Ahsoka in a choke hold. "Not without this, you won't."
It was then that a side door opened, and (y/n) caught wind of the situation.
The cargo hatch opened, and the Son leapt into the wind with Ahsoka still in his clutches.
"Ahsoka!!" (y/n) and I cried out in unison, powerless to do anything.
The next moments were a blur, with (y/n) and I swiftly rushing to the cockpit.
"What's going on?" Obi-wan demanded, noticing our frantic looks.
"The son took Ahsoka." I stated simply.
"What in the blazes are you talking about?" he exclaimed.
"Move! Let me fly." I ordered, pushing my master aside as I prepared to helm the controls.
I promptly steered us off course, sending the shuttle into a dive that took us through several storm clouds.
When I locked on to the Son's, wings and all, he was flying toward a collection of stony spires that jutted up from the ground.
And attempt to shake us off, for only an idiot would attempt to fly through such a dangerous section...
An idiot, or an ace pilot.
I flew us into the fray, zooming back and forth, weaving in and out of the spires of death.
At times, I even had to fly the shuttle sideways.
Eventually, the gargoyle carrying Ahsoka vanished into a misty veil.
It would be suicide to continue... no visiblity.
'I don't care.' I convinced myself, thrusting the throttle forward.
As the mist enveloped us, we were slowly able to see a haunting, green glow on the other side.
Then it was right in front of me...
A massive, green orb.
"Look out!" Obi-wan yelped, utilizing his co-pilot controls to perform a sharp turn away from the orb.
I fought back, trying to steer further toward the mysterious sphere.
"Crunch!"
Through our miscommunications, as well as the chaotic turbulence generated by the sharp turn, one of the shuttle's wings struck something.
"I have a bad feeling about this..." (y/n) muttered to himself as the shuttle's warning systems started screeching.
The shuttle spiraled out of control until it struck the ground, and eventually skidded to a halt.
"I didn't think you saw it." Obi-wan admitted, sparks of electricity sputtering throughout the crashed shuttle.
"It was a giant tower. Of course I saw it!" I snapped, angry and frantic.
(y/n) lead the way to the outside of the shuttle, moving several stray pieces of metal to clear a path.
"Any sign of him?" I demanded, looking around.
"No. But I think it's obvious where he's taken her." my former master responded, crossing his arms.
Ahead of us, across the deep scars branded into the land, was a tall, obsidian tower.
Atop its highest point sat the green orb, illuminating the darkness of the Son's domain.
"There?!" (y/n) yelped frantically, wanting confirmation.
"We must hurry." I urged my master, but when it came to how he would respond, I knew better.
"Anakin, this wasn't a mistake. He brought us here for a reason." Obi-wan lectured, trying to be rational. "We must not get involved. Any conflict here could have dramatic repercussions for the universe at large."
Without warning, (y/n) vanished in a cloud of dust, leaving a trail that zoomed toward black, ornate skyscraper.
Obi-wan and I stood silently for a few seconds, stunned.
The mechanic part of brain started whirring, fascinated at (y/n)'s usage of the force power.
'Very high velocity... probably as fast as the slowest speeder.' I analyzed, then coming back to my senses.
"And here I was hoping he could be a second voice of reason..." Obi-wan blabbered, overwhelmed by his role as the de-facto parent of the group.
"That's just another reason we need to go now. We can't let (y/n) face the Son alone." I argued. "Dramatic repurcussions? I don't care! He's too powerful for Ahsoka, and (y/n). I won't leave them alone."
"We are in the middle of something we don't truly understand! We'd be wise to confer with the father first." Obi-wan advised sternly.
"There's no time." I growled impatiently.
"This is what he wants, to divide us." Obi-wan pointed out smartly.
"It's my fault he took her!" I yelled, confessing to that guilty part of me.
"You must feel how strong this part of the planet is with the dark side. The father will know what to do." Obi-wan advised again calmly placing a hand on my shoulder.
"He can't help us." I declared grimly, shaking my head.
With that, I left my master, taking the first step toward the dark tower.
Ahsoka POV
"You cannot keep me here ...YOU HEAR ME?!" I shrieked, fighting against my chains.
"Save your energy. You have been... left to die." a hoarse, nasally-sounding voice dissented.
The detractor was a hunchbacked, shrimpy little creature... a gray, ghoulish impersonation of Master Yoda with a long snout.
"Then I will escape!" I declared, pulling at my wrist restraints once more.
"Impossible." the creature wheezed, chuckling. "I have been here for more years than I care to remember!"
"I am a Jedi... we don't give up easily." I proclaimed confidently, concealing my uneasiness as the alien crept closer.
"Jedi? Huh... but, so young." the strange creature observed, waving his hand nonchalantly. "Where is your master?"
I maintained my inner focus, staying serene even while the creature climbed up next to me.
"He will come for me." I stated.
"And... if he does not?" my fellow prisoner inquired, his snout coming dangerously close to my face.
The horrid stench of the creature's breath wafted over my nose.
"He will." I insisted, butting heads with the creature.
"What makes you so sure?" the ghoulish creature questioned, getting up close and personal again.
Nonetheless, my fellow prisoner slowly undid the shackles that bound me to the wall.
"Thank you." I stated, grateful.
"The chains? The chains are the easy part. It's what goes on in here that's hard." the little ghoul shivered, pointing to his head. He then hobbled into the spotlight. "Don't you see, child? You... are alone now. If you are to survive, you must forget your master."
The creature grabbed my wrist.
"I don't think I..." I started, wanting to reject his uncomfortable grip.
Just then, my head was infected with a terrible, throbbing pain.
Closing my eyes, I pressed my palm to my forehead, an attempt at easing the pain.
"Clink!"
The screeching sound of scraping metal jolted me back to my senses.
...
The creature had lunged for my wrist, its teeth crunching into...
Not my wrist.
Instead, it bit down on a different morsel...
(y/n)'s metal gauntlets.
(y/n) POV
After getting a moutful of my vambraces, the small alien's eyes widened in disbelief.
Mine did too.
After all, I hadn't expected to come across such a peculiar little beast.
But there wasn't any time to think.
"Clink!"
"Clang!"
"Clink!"
The creature continuously lunged at Ahsoka, biting in quick succession, its sharp incisors deflecting off of my gauntlets each time.
"Clang!"
It chomped into my left gauntlet, fusing itself to my wrist.
An opportunity.
I pulled back my right arm...
Twisted my torso, and...
Cross.
"Bam!"
My fist met the creature's face, sending it flying across the chamber.
With the alien creature's assault repelled, I turned back to Ahsoka.
She seemed unscathed.
"Saved your life." I smirked.
"You payed me back." Ahsoka corrected snarkily. "And we're still a long way from being even."
Despite her joking exterior, she was noticably relieved to see me.
"And that thing's a long way from being dead." I pointed out.
Across the chamber, the tiny devil got back up effortless.
I hadn't even put a scratch on it.
...
Without warning, our miniature foe began to enlarge.
Its body contorted, melted, morphed...
Until the Son stood across from us, his red eyes boring into me like lasers.
"I'm not even surprised anymore." Ahsoka expressed fearfully.
"Yeah, me neither." I agreed, also on edge.
"Why must you get in my way?!" the Son yelled, frustrated. "Child, you are meddling with affairs that do not involve you."
Before I could come up with a clever rebuttal, the Son raised his hands in the air..
And red lightning burst forth for them.
"Psssshew!"
Instinctively, I guarded with my lightsaber, intercepting the crimson tendrils of electricity.
The energy, the power that built up around the green blade of light.
It was too much.
Within seconds, my footing gave way, and I was flung backwards into a wall.
...
Rattled by physical trauma, my head was splitting.
When I opened my eyes, the Son had already pounced on Ahsoka, assuming his beastly, monstrous form again.
I dashed, aiming to block the Son's bite with my gauntlets like before...
But it was too late.
The Son's teeth finally contacted with flesh...
Sinking into a shoulder.
...
https://youtu.be/Km9sNnqRLuA
My shoulder.
Agony.
Pure agony erupted from my deltoid muscles.
The Son then assumed his humanoid form once more.
"Arrrgghh!!!" the Son shrieked, spitting into my face. "You... you..."
"What have you done?!" Ahsoka cried out, furious.
She streaked towards the Son, killing intent etched upon her face.
With a lazy hand wave, the Son tossed Ahsoka to a safe distance.
"I... I can make this work." the Son assured himself, calming down.
Suddenly, a wave of nausea spread throughout my body.
My vision began to darken.
Still, I saw the Son crouch down, peering into my eyes.
"You are mine now." he growled delightfully.
Ahsoka POV
"Get away from him!" I barked, watching the Son pat down (y/n).
The Son paused for a moment, rummaging around for something out of view.
"Very well." he chuckled, standing up and moving away from (y/n)'s crumpled form.
As soon as I reached (y/n)'s side, I could tell something was wrong.
Something was horribly wrong.
"(y/n)... (y/n)! Talk to me!" I begged, shaking him, but to no avail. I then turned to the Son. "What did you do to him?"
The Son ignored me, instead taking interest in (y/n)'s lightsaber, the artifact that he'd stolen from his pocket.
"I've always wanted to do this." the Son exclaimed gleefully, disassembling the saber hilt as it floated above his palm.
When the kyber crystal revealed itself from the cloud of components, the Son seized it with force, his dark palm swallowing the stone.
As the son closed his fist, I could have sworn I heard the crystal scream.
Suddenly, I felt (y/n) begin to stir below me.
"(y/n)! Come on, let's get out of here." I urged, eager to escape the Son's weird torture dungeon.
"Oh, that's right." the Son mentioned sarcastically. "You should probably... get away from him."
As soon as he finished speaking, (y/n)'s eyes jolted open.
His eyes...
His yellow eyes...?!
Obi-wan POV
"Anakin... always on the move." I complained to myself. "How do I even find the father?"
As if on cue, I was suddenly bathed in a warm, white light.
When I looked up, I spotted the unmistakable pale crystal atop the Father's monestary, almost as if it were a beacon.
3rd Person
"You are growing stronger, my son." the Father stated, meditating at the top of the monestary.
"Am I, father?" the Son asked in return, delighted.
"Vanity, however, is getting the better of you." the Father admonished.
"How so?" the Son responded. Even through his hungry red eyes, a childish uneasiness at the thought of being scolded was visible.
"You have done what is forbidden." the Father stated, motioning for the Daughter to be silent as she prepared to interject. "You've chosen the dark side and allowed it to feed your anger and desire for power."
The Father and his son began walking together down the chamber steps.
"By bringing the chosen one here, you've shown me my potential, you've only yourself to blame!" the Son accused.
"Do not do this, son. Do not become what you should not." the Father begged as they strode past glowing symbols and runes etched into the stone. "Be strong, I implore you, or else I will be forced to contain you."
"You look frail, father." the Son observed suddenly, his words empty and hollow.
"I am not dead yet." the Father shot back, glancing at his son with a grizzled resolve.
"Well, perhaps I am tired of waiting!" the Son shrieked.
"ZzzzzzzzhhhhhH!"
Attacking his unsuspecting father, the Son unleashed tendrils of lightning into the old man's back.
The Father sailed down the steps until he struck the ground.
"I... hate you!" the Son wailed, failing to convince even himself.
Obi-wan POV
Just as I was ascending the monestary, the person I was looking for fell out of the sky, right in front of me.
I ducked as the Son's gargoyle form flew over me, letting out an animalistic cry.
"Father!" the Daughter screamed, sighting the elder's crumpled form.
The Daughter was quite beautiful...
'Not, not now.' I reminded myself.
I joined the Daughter in tending to her father's wounds, taking him to a chamber in the monestary.
While there, the Daughter performed an array of force powers on her sole parent, many of which I'd never seen before.
"We will leave him to rest." the Daughter suddenly proclaimed.
"I must talk to him." I requested calmly.
"Not until he's stronger." the Daughter denied, her long flowing hair swaying as she shook her head.
"But your brother is losing himself to the dark side... he's taken our friend." I explained, gesturing to the direction in which the Son's dark domain resided.
"Then he must have his reasons." the Daughter pushed back, to my surprise.
"The same reason he had for attempting to murder your father?" I asked, bewildered at her defense of her brother.
"He would never do such a thing." she insisted, shaking her head once more.
"But I saw him."
"It is not his fault." the Daughter stated sadly. "My nature is to do what is selfless, but my brother's will always be to do what is selfish."
"Then know you must help us." I implored.
"I cannot interfere with the ways of the force. My father forbids it." she claimed, standing up and walking away.
"Your brother will flee this place and wreak havoc on the universe. You and Anakin combined have the power to stop him." I claimed confidentally, hoping she would see reason.
She paused for a moment, likely considering something.
"Come with me." she ordered, a subtlely determined look etched upon her face.

Ahsoka POV
Holed up in a tiny room up in the tower's midsection, I shivered.
How close was he...?
Did he know where I was...?
What would he do if he found me... when he found me?!
What would I do then?! Run...? Hide somewhere else? ...Fight?!
No!
(y/n) wasn't himself, he'd been made a prisoner of his own mind, courtesy of the Son.
And here I was, worrying only for myself.
Still, my fear was real. It was undeniable.
Fear of what the Son had done to him...
Fear of what he would do now.
"I can't face him..." I whispered to myself, my voice unstable.
"Tap........ Tap........ Tap........"
Faint, sluggish foosteps.
My heart dropped instantly. It fell to sea level, drowning in the depths of the ocean before being swallowed by the deepest underwater trench.
The footsteps stopped.
So did my shivers.
"KSSHHHEWWW!"
The door screamed, a blade of red plasma violently boring through it.
"CRASH!"
I smashed through the window without a thought.
Rain splashed over my montrals as I slid down the side of the cathedral, away from my attacker.
For now.
When I hit the ground, I could already hear the thunder lumbering in the distance.
...
I ran.
I ran away.
I ran over the boundless landscape, passing between countless ghastly trees that had been drained of their life.
The pitter-patter of rain followed me.
As well as... footsteps?!
When he suddenly appeared in front of me, I skidded to a halt, my boots squelching through the dampened ground.
"Pssshew!"
There it was... that lightsaber, (y/n)'s lightsaber...
Tainted red by the Son.
"This isn't you, (y/n)! The Son is controlling you!" I shouted with desperation.
"No... it's me." (y/n) rejected, despondent. "The part of me you want to control, Ahsoka."
He slowly approached, pacing back and forth like a predator stalking its prey.
"Snap out of it!" I shouted futilely, noticing that he was backing me toward the edge of a hill.
"Out of what?" (y/n) growled angrily. "I feel stronger, more in control than I ever have. The Son isn't controlling me, he's given me a chance."
"nnnnnnnnnnnnnnNNNNNNNNN!"
Out of nowhere, (y/n) threw his scarlet saber toward me.
I sidestepped, allowing the spinning wheel of light to arc past me.
"Didn't think that one through, did you?" I questioned.
...
"nnnnnnnnnnnnnnNNNNNNNNN!"
Danger!
I ducked just in time to avoid the red disc of death as it flew back into (y/n)'s outstretched hand.
Impossible.
"I know this isn't you." I reiterated.
"Maybe that's what you'd like to believe. You...? You've always tried to control me, Ahsoka. Have you forgotten? When you tried to get me sent to the Service Corps?"
I froze.
"No, of course I haven't..." I answered with genuine remorse.
"I haven't either." he spat, venom dripping each of his words. "So what? You feel responsible for me? You feel the need to protect me? Because I'm not good enough? ...Did you ever once think about how that makes me feel?"
"I'm... I didn't know." I sputtered, thinking back to all the times I tried to shield him. "I didn't mean to, I'm sorry."
"It makes me feel powerless, Ahsoka." he confessed, crushed.
After a moment, he started talking again.
"I know what I am. Deep down, I always knew it, but when I saw Anakin conquer the Son and the Daughter..." (y/n) muttered, staring up at the sky. "That's when I finally grasped the distance between us..."
He continued.
"The Son is my ticket out of this prison I was born into, my only chance, and you want to take that from me?!" (y/n) snarled, creeping a little closer.
"It's not like that!" I denied, to no avail.
"But... even then... I wasn't his first choice. He wanted you, of course he did. He wanted you... to get to Anakin." (y/n) spat humorlessly. "It's always you and Anakin."
"Booooom!"
The thunder roared overhead, as if to agree.
(y/n) glanced up the sky, his hopes sullied.
"I'm strong, I have resolve..." he started. "And I'm fast, Ahsoka. So tell me... why can't I ever catch up to you?!" apologized, backing closer to the edge of the hill.
Again, (y/n) looked to the sky.
"WHY?!" he screamed at the tempest, shaking his fist at it.
"..."
I couldn't think of anything else to say.
After the storm was freed of his enmity, his gaze returned to me.
Resenting...
Loathing...
"Psshhew!"
"Pssshew!"
My twin sabers flared to life as I finally accepted the reality of the situation.
Obi-wan POV
Soon after entering the Son's cathedral, we found the Daughter's brother... facing the yellow-stained glass behind his dark throne.
"Sister... what a pleasant surprise." the Son spoke, slowly turning around. "And you brought a friend?"
"What have you done, brother?" the Daughter questioned harshly.
"Done?" the Son exclaimed, as if it was obvious. "I have... done what is right... or, what is wrong, depending on your point of view."
The Son then took a seat in his blackened chair of sovereignty, pressing his fingers together eagerly.
"Our father is dying... did you do it?" the Daughter questioned, horrified and saddened.
"He is just so selfish... and was taking too long to die, so... I decided to move things along." the Son explained, fidgeting with his hands. "Now... why are you here?"
"I won't let you leave this planet!" the Daughter declared, resolute.
"You are not strong enough to keep me here!" the Son shot back, rising into the eerie rays of light.
"Not alone, she isn't." I declared, stepping forward.
"Are you referring to your friend, the chosen one?" the Son inquired, putting his hands behind his back as he turned away again. "You might want to check up on him. He's a little preoccupied right now..."

Ahsoka POV
"I don't want to fight you, (y/n)." I pleaded, backing toward the edge of the hill.
"Because this time, you won't win." he accused, his voice cracking.
"That's not true...!" I denied strongly, staring into his frenzied, yellow irises as he continued approaching.
Suddenly, to my horror, one of my boots sank into the muddy ground.
The knot in my stomach tightened, so much so that I was sure my innards would tear themselves apart.
(y/n)'s eyes darted down.
"nnnnnnnnnnnn."
Our sabers crackled with energy.
"Boooom!"
Yet again, I heard the roar of thunder overhead.
"Tap... Tap.. Tap! Tap! Tap!"
Just as I'd freed my foot from the mud, (y/n) seized the opportunity, closing the distance between us instantaneously.
"Ksssshhh!"
"Kssshshhhh!"
He aimed for my side; I blocked with each of my blades.
My feet slipped.
Powerless against his strength, I fell backward into a tumble, rolling down the swampy slope uncontrollably.
"Shhhhkkkk!"
"Shhhkkkkk!"
I plunged each of my laser swords into the slope, boiling the watery earth, all in an attempt to to regain control of my descent.
Finally, I brought myself to a stop at the bottom of the hill.
Bruised and battered, I leapt to my feet regardless...
Because I knew he'd be right there...
I crossed my sabers together.
"Ksshhshkkkk!"
As the first strike of lightning came crashing down, so did (y/n)'s devastating blow.
It took everything I had to withstand his ferocity.
He didn't give me any time to rest; by the time I stopped skidding through the mud, he was already on top of me, preparing to unleash another attack.
A sweeping, destructive slash.
I cleared it with meters to spare, flipping backwards to put some distance between us.
"nnnnnnNNNNNN!"
His scarlet blade howled, heralding another brutal swing.
'Relentless.' I thought momentarily, feeling that familiar, fatigued, burning sensation start to take hold in my chest.
That was the only word to describe it.
"Kssh!"
I sidestepped while employing reverse-grip Soresu, diverting (y/n)'s red saber away from my path.
He paused for a moment, then twisting his head to face me.
He glared, his face shrouded in shadows.
Raw hatred emanated from his corrupted eyes.
I didn't just see it, I sensed it.
I sensed his intent to kill me.
...
Unexpectedly, (y/n) altered his grip, adopting a one-handed stance.
'Form II.' I noted mentally, steeling myself for the storm.
"Ksssh!" "Kssshh!" "Kssssh!"
His swings were lighter now, easier to withstand...
"Kssh!" "Kssh!" "Kssh!" "Kssh! "Kssh!" "Kssh! "Kssh!"
But much faster.
...
I leapt into the air.
He did the same.
"KSSSSSHHHH!"
Green and red clashed violently in midair, eventually repelling each other.
My body kept moving however. Twisting, gyrating acrobatically...
"I never enjoyed being better than you... I always hated it!" I cried out, my boot crashing into his jaw from the side. "But I always thought that holding back would've been even more of a slap in the face!"
Dazed, but still focused, (y/n) caught my ankle with his free hand midflight.
His feet hit the ground.
He swung my entire body around, like a sack of fruit, slamming me into a tree trunk.
"SLAM!"
My back bowed into itself. Even as my spine sprung back, I was left coughing on the ground, my cheek in the mud.
"He won't let me kill you... yet." (y/n) fumed, kicking me in the ribs. "Not until he arrives."
"Shhhhkkkk!"
While still downed, I cut down the dead tree at its base.
"Shhhk!" "Shhhhk!" "Shhhk!"
As I diced the wood into smaller pieces of lumber, I hurled them toward (y/n) with the force.
"Shhhk!" "Shhhhk!" "Shhhhk!" Shhhhk!
Utilizing Form II, he cut through the pieces of wood like a chef chopping vegetables.
And then he closed in again...
"Ksssshhhhh!"
Our blades clashed together, and we repelled each other...
Meaning (y/n) was open for an attack.
As I prepared a force push, I was shocked to see him do the same.
We each thrust our hands forward, mirroring each other...
And our wills clashed in a telekinetic struggle.
After a few moments passed, it was crystal clear who had the advantage.
It was still me.
(y/n) snarled, more furious than ever.
With a final push, I overpowered him, knocking him back a few meters...
But he was back on me in no time.
"KSSHHHH!" "KSSSHHH!" "KSSHHH!" "KSSSSSSHHHHHHH!"
With another series of violent strikes, he started to herd me again.
His objective was obvious now.
(y/n) was driving me back toward the Son's cathedral.
Over time, the downpour intensified. It drenched my cheeks, obsured my vision... even melded with the blood seeping from my cuts.
"Kssssh! Ksssshhh!"
"Ksssshhhhhhhhh!"
"Kssh Kssh! Kssh!"
Our duel continued.
"Sssss! Sss! Ssssss! Sssss!"
Water droplets met plasma, vaporizing on contact.
Anakin POV
I combed the Son's tower, as well as the surrounding area, desperate to locate my padawan.
No sign of her.
While still in a panic mode, the pitter patter of approaching footfalls made my heart skip a beat.
And then she entered the courtyard.
"Ahsoka! Where have you been?!" I shouted, stern... yet relieved.
"Fighting... for my life... master..." she huffed, water and sweat dripping from her clothes.
She was covered in bruises, mud, small cuts, but she was alive.
"Whatever Snips, let's get out of here." I urged, waving my hand. "Wait... have you seen (y/n)?"
The answer to my question wasn't far.
"CRACKOWWW!"
At the edge of the cathedral courtyard, lightning pierced the earth.
And there he was.
(y/n)... veiled in shadow, his yellow eyes gleaming under his hood...
His blade ignited, bleeding red.
"The Son did something to him!" Ahsoka warned, now having caught her breath.
"Psshhew!"
"Pssshew!"
"Pssshhew!"
"Psshhew!"
Ahsoka and I activated our weapons simultaneously, along with...
"Obi-wan!" I exclaimed, my mentor having appeared out of the blue.
"I'll ask later..." Obi-wan muttered, eyeing the horrific monster that had taken over (y/n). "Best to proceed with caution."
"Three Jedi!" (y/n) shouted from afar, his voice twisted and feral. "I like a challenge."

(y/n) POV
Hours and hours of training.
Hours of studying.
Even more hours of training... days... years.
Still, I could never grasp it... I could never exercise my knowledge and experience.
It was just a part of my being... some broken part of me that caused inevitable failure each time, without fail.
But now...
This power I felt coursing through my veins...
It was as if everything had clicked into place.
"Best to proceed with caution." Master Kenobi advised.
Three opponents.
I assumed a two-handed grip, abandoning Makashi.
Lightsaber Form IV, Ataru: Jetstream.
I flashed forward, zig-zagging with blinding speed.
"Kssssh!" "Kssshh!" "Kssshh!"
My spinning slashes glanced off their sabers as I flew over the trio.
"Kssshh!" "Ksssh!" "Kssh!" "Kssh!"
"Kssssh!" "Kssshh!" "Kssshh!"
I repeated several more times, hitting them hard, and then retreating with my unrivaled speed.
But eventually, inevitably, they swarmed me... like flies.
Blue, blue, green, light-green...
Lightsaber Form I, Shii-cho: Epicenter
As they closed in, my body became a shockwave of seismic energy, my lightsaber being the point of discharge.
"Ksssshhhhh!" "Kssshhh!" "Ksssshhh!"
"Ksssshhhh!" "Kssshhh!" "Ksssshhhh!"
Each time one of them attempted to enter my circle, our sabers clashed, and I sent them reeling back.
Ahsoka POV
"Ahsoka, you think we can wear him down?" Anakin asked, steadfast, yet fatigued.
"Probably not." I admitted, skeptical, and also breathing heavily.
There was just no end to his speed and power.
Even so, as he tired us out, (y/n)'s face grew more and more unhappy.
"I know you're holding back!" (y/n) wailed, shoving Anakin into the ground with his mind. "Use the force! Use it!"
"Fine then, you asked for it." Anakin snapped, annoyed.
In an instant, (y/n) was pinned to the ground, as if gravity had increased a hundredfold.
"Rrrrrrrgghhh!" (y/n) shrieked, struggling against the forces that kept him down.
Master Kenobi and I just watched, stunned.
Stunned at (y/n) perserverance, or was that the right word?
It was too far.
It was sad.
It made me want to cry.
Assuming the push-up position, (y/n) began pushing against the courtyard stone with all of his might.
And to my shock...
He started to push himself off the ground.
"He's going to hurt himself." Master Kenobi observed, and I realized that he was right.
Whether or not he was strong enough, (y/n)'s bones wouldn't be able to endure such a burden forever. It was dangerous territory.
Anakin loosened his hold over (y/n), afraid to harm him.
When (y/n) jumped to his feet, he was more than displeased.
"Why...?" he asked Anakin, the hurt shimmering through his eyes. "It doesn't mean anything if you hold back...!"
3rd Person
Back in the throne room, the Son observed the four Jedi clash from afar, while his sister watched in horror.
"Can you feel it, sister?" the Son pried, his face filled with satisfaction. "Can you feel the anger, the hate, the fury?"
"Their conflict is feeding you, isn't it? I must stop them!" the Daughter cried out, running for the exit.
"No!" the Son growled as he seized his sister through the force, preventing her intervention.
After being thrown to the middle of the room, the Daughter performed a complex series of hand signs, ending with her own attack that slammed her brother into the floor.
"If you will stand in my way, then I guess we must fight." the Son stated regretfully, balling his fists.
Ahsoka POV
"Any suggestions?!" Anakin demanded, directing his question at Master Kenobi.
"Yes, we cut him free!" Master Kenobi answered, gripping something from his belt.
Faint whispers eminated from the object in question, phantasmal wisps emenating from Master Kenobi's hand until they finally coalesced into a ghostly dagger.
"Huh?" I blurted out.
"What is that?!" Anakin hollered, blindsided by the reveal, just as I was.
"It can kill the son." Master Kenobi answered simply.
At the dagger's materialization, (y/n) let out a furious scream, his voice reminiscent of the Son's.
"WHERE did you get that? Give it to me!" he howled.
3rd Person
"Zzzzzhh!"
"ZZZZZH!"
"Zzzzzzzzzzhh!"
For every bolt of crimson lightning the Son fired, the Daughter dissipated the energy with her hand.
When the next volley came, the Daughter caught the energy, spinning around and throwing it back at her mad brother.
"Zzzzzzzzhh!"
"Argh!"
Before he could evade, the bolt flowed into the son, electrocuting him.
The Daughter followed up by forcing her brother into the wall.
Her saddened face was proof of her mercy, something that her brother exploited.
"Zzzzzzzzhh!"
Subtly freeing his hand from stasis, the Son discharged a surprise volley of electricity from his fingertips.
This time, the Daughter was unprepared to defend.
"You don't have to do this." the Daughter pleaded, getting up from the ground.
"Then STAND ASIDE!" the Son howled, his wrath invoked.
Force lightning spurted from his hands, no longer unleashed in delayed volleys.
Now, it was a constant flow.
The Daughter convulsed as the destructive energy surged through her, but her will wouldn't be destroyed so easily.
"I can't. I WON'T!" she shrieked, enlarging into a griffin.
"Cawwwww!"
The Daughter charged for the Son, headbutting him across the throne room.
As the Son stood up, he too morphed into his beast form.
The two monstrous shapeshifters began to tustle, wrestling each other.
They became so fixated on their struggle, they never saw the winged angel land silently in the throne room.
"Stop this!" the Father ordered, heaving his children through the yellow-tainted window with but a wave of his hand.
Ahsoka POV
"So glad you could make it to our little party, father." the Son spat, his word dripping with venom.
"Zzzzzzzzhh!"
Raising his hand, he shot a stream of lightning directly at his father.
The Father intercepted it, absorbing the energy.
"You will stop this!" the Father commanded sternly.
"Zzzzzzzhhhh!"
"You are too weak for me, old man. You mean nothing to me anymore!" the Son declared, discharging red lightning from his other hand as well.
The elder was visibly shocked at his son's power, especially as it started to push him back.
Eventually, it was too much for the dying father.
"Booooom!"
With a deafening burst of energy that resonated through the courtyard, the father cumpled to the ground.
The Son levitated up the stairs, then venturing to his father's weakened state.
"Zzzzzzzzhhhh!"
He attacked his father with force lightning again, mercilessly tormenting the old man.
"Anakin, now!" Master Kenobi shouted, tossing the sacred dagger over to Anakin...
A blurr streaked through the air, crossing paths with the dagger before it could land in my master's hands.
(y/n).
He ran to the Son, like an obedient pet playing fetch.
"Everything has transpired exactly as I planned." the Son boasted, staring down at the dagger in (y/n)'s grasp.
"You showed them the altar?" the Father gasped, horrified at what his daughter had unintentionally let loose.
"I am sorry, father!" the Daughter apologized as Master Kenobi helped her up. "I didn't know how else to stop him!"
"Give it to me, child." the Son ordered.
"(y/n), no!" I cried out.
He didn't look back, eagerly shoving the divine weapon into the Son's hand without resistance.
(y/n) POV
"Thank you." the Son expressed, seeming disintered as he brandished the dagger. "Your usefulness has come to an end."
The Son raised his hand, aiming to press his finger to my forehead...
'Die.' the Son's voice commanded in my head.
His finger grew closer.
Closer...
...
Suddenly, the darkness that clouded my mind was flushed away in an instant.
'No!' I screamed internally, breaking free of the Son's control.
I jumped back, evading the Son's touch of death...
And one I was safe...
The darkness came back with a vengeance, flooding into my conscious.
Without warning, I whipped around to face Ahsoka.
I called upon the dark side, immobilizing her with a thought.
My hatred, my rage... everything that made me resent her, all at once.
'Focus... focus!' I commanded myself, sensing every part of her body through the force.
Coronary artery... vertebral artery...
Carotid artery. The brain.
With a light exertion, I closed it off.
Ahsoka keeled over almost instantly.
"Nooooo!" Anakin howled, crying out like a wounded animal.

Anakin POV
The Son, who had stood silently for a while looking astonished, shrugged as he came to his senses.
"The Jedi have brought me the dagger, and you have brought yourself. Now, father, you will die." the Son hissed, raising the dagger above his head.
"Father!" the Daughter screeched, diving in front of the elderly man.
The dagger easily pierced through her skin, plunging deep into her back.
Shocked by the turn of events, the Son immediately released the artifact's hilt.
He stared at his palms as they shook with despair.
"CRACKOWWW!"
"Why?!" the Son roared, his voice rising above the thunderclap.
With a flash of lightning, the Son took flight, fleeing the scene.
...
Obi-wan and I rushed to Ahsoka's side.
I pressed my fingers to her wrist, desperate for a pulse...
For any signs of life.
Nothing.
No.
No...
No!!!
Not again.
The grief was like a lightsaber melting through my chest.
"My daughter! What have I done?!" the father cried, rebuking himself.
"Do not hate him, father... It... is his... nature." the Daughter coughed, her breathing shallow and weak.
Behind the Father, the lone tree in the courtyard started to shed its leaves...
Wither away.
The thunder seemed stronger.
"No... all is lost!" the father moaned, the echo of thunder intensifying in the background. "The balance has been broken. I thought by bringing you here, I would... but I have destroyed everything!"
"Can you help her?" I requested, laying Ahsoka's lifeless body next to the Daughter.
"There is no light. The evil has been unleashed, and the dark side shall consume her!" the Father lamented.
No... there had to be a way.
If there was a way to save her, I would find it.
"You must help her!" I begged, sorrow seeping through my face.
"I cannot undo what is done. There is no hope." the Father declared cynically.
"Yes there is! There's always hope!" I cried, desperate to cling on.
The Father was about to open his mouth when his Daughter gently brushed his cheek.
She pointed to Ahsoka.
Realizing her wish, the Father stood up, moving between Ahsoka and the Daughter.
He gestured for me to sit between them.
As I did so, the wilting tree was down to its last leaves.
"Then let my daughter's last act be to breathe life into your friend." the old man declared, guiding my hands until they touched the foreheads of both of the fallen.
In a blinding flash of light, I felt the force flow through me, stronger than it ever had...
A torrent, a flood of life energy.
I became a bridge that connected Ahsoka and the Daughter.
As the light left the Daughter's eyes, Ahsoka's skin began radiating.
And suddenly...
Ahsoka coughed.
Instant relief washed over me, purging the overwhelming sadness that had tortured me moments before.
"Hey, snips." I addressed with a chuckle, after hugging her tightly.
"What... happened?" Ahsoka questioned, slightly delerious.
She looked over to Obi-wan.
"Uh, not much." I stated lamely. "It's good to see you."
"As the balance in this world crumbles, so shall war escalate in your galaxy." the Father warned as we helped Ahsoka stand up. The Father kneeled down to look at his daughter again, solemnly rubbing her hand. "As my son has descended into the dark side, so have the Sith gained strength!"
"Booooooom!"
An ominous crack of thunder emphasized his cautionary advice.
"We will stop your son." I stated, resolute.
"No! You must go now. He needs your ship to leave the planet." the Father pointed out, terrified. "You must leave, before he can take it!"
"What about you?" Obi-wan inquired, unsure.
The Father looked to his fallen child again.
"I shall mourn all that I have done, and all... that is yet to be." he answered.
(y/n) POV
"Ugh..." I groaned, lifting my arms up off the polished stone.
My limbs felt heavy, my head foggy...
I massaged my forehead, trying to numb the splitting headache.
Seeing my companions, as well as the father, I got up and made my way over to them.
As soon as she laid eyes on me, Ahsoka jumped back.
She was terrified.
Master Kenobi and Anakin weren't quite as frightened, but they did seem to steel themselves.
I looked behind me, expecting to see the Son, but he wasn't there.
Just my shadow.
