Chapter 18
Jason
As I looked up to the sunset sky, all I could think about how Ariana still couldn't remember. It had been a few weeks now. And I had not heard a single word from her. Though, with how things got left between us, I didn't expect for her to talk to me ever again once she remembered. I was outside on my terrace, trying to get some air.
With my tour being cancelled, everyone had flown back to their homes. My sister, Chaz, Rylan the rest of my crew and I were now back in LA. I was not feeling any better with being home. Not at all.
"Jasen. . ." I heard from behind me.
I turned to see my sister gazing at me with a concerned expression on her face. My sister at times, came over to stay with me. She had her own home of course, but my house was huge and it was lonelier without Cel staying over. So I welcomed her company. I could tell in this moment of time, my sister was worried for my overall wellbeing. Since Ariana's accident and the cancellation of my tour, I have not been doing so well. I barely ate or got proper rest. My dreams were haunted with reminders of that night, and I didn't really leave the house as much.
"I'm doing just fine." I repeated the same lie I'd gotten used to telling my sister over and over these days.
She gave me a hard look. My sister probably knew me better than almost anyone. The only other person I could say for sure besides Elizabeth knew me just as well — Ariana. Celestial may have understood me to a certain level as well. But on a much more soul and deeper level, I could honestly say that Ariana took the win on that one. She never used to be afraid to call me out and never coddled me. She always told me how things were, but in a kind manner. Celestial's advice had always been more sisterly and laid back.
Elizabeth had called Ari's mother a couple days ago. We found out that Ariana wasn't really doing better or worse. She was still very clearly was not herself. In finding out this news, it made me feel so horrible. I felt so responsible for why Ariana was no longer the chipper, spunky young woman she'd always been.
Taking in the look on my face, my sister sighed heavily.
"Jason," she began wearily. "You can't keep beating yourself up. Ariana wouldn't want this!"
Upon hearing her name, I just snapped.
"How the hell do you know what she'd want?" I hissed. "The girl we once knew is now a shadow of her herself thanks to how poorly I treated her! In turn causing her to run away in the first place!
"Ariana is grown and in charge of her own actions," my sister responded monotone.
If I didn't know any better, it was as if my sister was become frustrated with Ariana overall. I started at my sister for a long moment. She just looked back at me with me with her arms crossed.
"Are you mad at Ariana?!" I asked in compete disbelief. "Are you crazy?!"
My sister's arms dropped to her sides. She sighed in defeat and shook her head. She didn't respond to my accusation for a long moment. She walked up to the railing beside me and stared out at the sunset.
"Jason..." she started slowly after some time. "I love you. You're my little brother, and all I have ever wanted was for you to be happy. I love Ariana as well. But all this is tearing you apart! I'm not taking sides. I just wish some actions could have been thought more through by everyone."
Looking at my sister, I could see the weariness in her eyes that usually shined so bright. I felt a wave of guilt. I was constantly thinking about how this affected me and Ariana so much, I didn't think about the toll it was taking on my sister as well. I took a side step closer to my sister and pulled her into my arms.
"I'm sorry," I whispered.
My sister rested against me. She just stood silently for a few moments before she pulled back. She gazed up at me and smiled a loving smile.
"I just want all of you to be okay." She bit her lip. "I love all of you."
"We will be," I vowed.
My sister gazed up at me curiously, and I smiled innocently back. I was coming up with a plan. A much needed plan of action that would hopefully help me set everything right.
"You're getting that look in your eyes, Jason." My sister stared back at me worriedly.
"What?" I asked, slightly offended.
"Whenever you get the 'I got a plan' look in your eyes," my sister shook her head. "it usually ends with things not as well as you think."
I glared at her playfully.
"Celestial used to stop you whenever you got a crazy plan." My sister's lips turned up into a fond smile. "Have you heard from her?"
The honest truth was despite Cel and I agreeing to remain friends, I had not heard from her since we left England. There was this part of me that wanted so badly to reach out. But I was conflicted on what for — begging for forgiveness or for her to consider taking me back. Whenever I thought of Celestial, my mind always returned to Ariana. That made it clear to myself that reaching out to Cel was not a good idea at this time.
"Have you?" I countered, hoping to redirect the conversation.
My sister just sighed and shook her head. I knew my sister was very conflicted about this as well. She loved Celestial and wanted to give her space to heal a little before reaching out. It could be pretty awkward sometimes to be in contact with an ex's family. I was grateful things didn't seem to be left on bad terms between us. Celestial was a very emotionally mature girl, and knew how to hide her emotions well. So, if she had been angry, it wouldn't have been obvious.
"Anyway," I said, clapping my sister on the shoulder. "I have a flight to book."
"Okay," my sister said tiredly, not paying attention.
As I made my way off of the terrace, it must have dawned on my sister what I actually said because I heard —"Wait, what?! Jasen!"
Before quickly rushing up my stairs, grinning like a Cheshire cat. . .
