Chapter 9

Chapter 9:

Max Henderson:

I lay across my bed and stared at the ceiling in boredom.

There was nothing interesting to do in this house other than play the computer, my phone or watch TV.

Those were just things people turned to when they're bed.

They're not really important but most people seemed to think that.

They give up everything just to get a hold of an Internet source, but really what's so good about them?

They're fun?

They're a way for people to communicate without doing it in person.

They allow people to get bullied in places other than school.

Yep they're great for everything.

I sighed in exasperation and swung my legs off the bed and made my way to the bedroom next to mine.

The door was closed shut with the words, 'KEEP OUT!' Written across the white door.

My hand met with the door, hitting it lightly, ensuring that I didn't knock too loudly or Maxine would yell at me.

No clue why.

The door opened up and I watched as Maxine smiled at me while ushering me in, her hand welcoming me in.

"What time do we have to go to make it on time?" I asked her as she went and sat on her queen bed that had girly flower covers that made me want to vomit.

"What time do you think?" She replied in a sarcastic tone and I rolled my eyes at her.

"Oh you know maybe the time the man on the moon takes to get to sleep. I don't know."

"You're so weird. Six o'clock we need to leave so that they're is enough time left to get there at seven due to the fact that the time it takes to get there is ham fan hour." She responded and folded her arms together.

"Alright, well I'll meet you out the front then. For now I'm going to get some food, and no, not off the maid who seems to think I can't do anything myself." I told my sister and she slapped her forehead with the palm of her hand.

"I really question if your my twin sometimes."

"Is that suppose to be an insultment?" I asked my sister, my right foot stepped behind me.

She shook her head, causing her straight hair to move side to side slightly.

I turned my back towards her and opened the door, walking out into the kitchen where the maid that cooked was humming a classical tune under her breath all the while flipping round pieces of bacon on the black pan that was sitting on the electric stove top.

Her greeting hair was done up in a tight bun with some pieces falling loose and clung to the side of her sunken cheeks.

"Lulu, do you want me to take over that for you. I think you need to go have a rest. You're looking a little pale." I said walking up to her and stood at her side, looking up at her triangular face.

"No, no I'm right dear." The old lady smiled at me in kindness.

I smiled back up at her and headed over to the double doored cupboard that had lines of food stacked on each one.

The first row consisted of sauces used for flavor in cooking and the second row had packets of things like bars, biscuits, chips, noodles and lots of other stuff.

The third row had the cordial and flavoring stuff for the ice-cream that was sitting in the freezer along with coffee packets and hit chocolate packets.

The final row didn't have much except jars of fruit such as grapes, apples, plumbs, pears, and not to mention the pickles that were there too.

Don't ask me why there was fruit in jars because I don't have the answer.

My arm reached out to the second row, grabbing beef flavored noodles.

I brought them over to the white bench top and ripped the packaging off furiously, licking my lips as my stomach growled.

"What are you doing dear?" The maid asked me, her face turned to meet the cup of noodles.

"I'm just getting a snack because I won't be here for dinner." I replied and turned back to the noodles, remembering that I needed to boil the kettle.

I rushed over to the left slightly and wrapped my hands around the black kettle handle, picking it up from the stand.

I brought it over to the Tao where I turned it to the hot water and waited for it to heat up.

I out the silver kettle underneath the tap and let it fill until it reached just under the MAX amount if water allowed.

Making my way back over to the kettle stand I sat it on top, hearing the clicking sound and pushed the button on to best the water.

"Oh alright dear." The maid said and I rolled my eyes secretly.

Why could mum and dad just do things themselves or give us chores like normal parents would do?

I hated living in the too life.

Just for one day I'd like to know what it was like to be poor and go without things for a little while and not being able to complain because you know that your parents can't help it.

I frowned and grabbed the kettle, pouring the hit water halfway I to the noodle cup.

Now the wait for my noodles to cook in the boiling water.

While I waited I slowly made my way over to the kitchen table and pulled the chair out to sit on it.

Mum and dad weren't home so it was only the maids, Maxine and I which caused for a very lonely house considering how bug the house was.

Half the time we couldn't even find each other.

I grabbed a big fork from the draw beside me and started stirring the almost cooked noodles, remembering that I had to out the flavoring in it.

Picking up the flavoring from the table and ripped open the packet, brown particles landing on the bench top and I muttered, "oops."

I pored it into the cup, some if it catching on the fork and I began stirring it again.

Once the noodles were done I twisted about four different noodles on my fork and shoved it into my mouth, feeling my tongue burn from the hotness.

I coughed slightly and my eyes watered

I swallows the noodle in a hurry and fanned my mouth with my hand despite the fact it would make no difference.

Hearing a giggle I turned sideways and saw Maxine laughing at me, her cheeks going red from her laughter.

"What are you laughing at?" I raised my eyebrow at Maxine.

"Your weird hand gestures." My sister said In between her laughter.

"Shut up." I grumbled, gulping another spoonful of noodles.

"I just came out to tell you that we leave in half an hour. Be ready."

"I will." I answered with a smile.

I twisted my fork in the noodle container and wrapped no idles around it, leaving two bits of noodles that dropped of the side of the fork.

The fork met my mouth and I tasted the beef flavored noodles, them being no longer hot.

My sisters footsteps entered my ear and I lifted my head in search of where she was gone, only to find that she was walking back into her bedroom.

My pocket in my school pants vibrated causing me to remember that I had slipped my phone in there earlier.

I put my hand in my pocket and pulled the iPhone out and saw right text messages along with two missed calls.

My mouth opened slightly and my eyes widened in shock.

The first message was from Percy.

-You coming to the party tonight Max, despite it being in a school night?-

I scratched the back if my neck and clicked reply.

-No I can't and besides I hate parties-

After finishing the text I went on to check the next which was from Damon.

-hey dude! Just because you hate me calling you dude-

I laughed at Damon and texted him back.

-No, just no. Dude is not acceptable. It's man!-

The next text was from one of my friends who went by Harley.

Checking all these texts and replying to them was beginning to grow on my nerves but I couldn't just ignore them.

That would be considered rather rude and I was a nice guy.

-Hey! What's up?-

I lazily typed back a reply to him.

-Nothin. You?-

The boredom of texting people.

The only person I really cared about was Damon.

He was the only person who was actually considerate of others feelings and was like me in a way.

You could say I was closer to him than anyone else.

My next text was from this annoying chick named Stephanie.

I rolled my eyes in annoyance and flicked to the text from Lachlan.

-Hey buddy! What's doing?-

-nothin, you?-

I typed back in reply quickly and I sighed in great annoyance.

It was times like this where I hated being popular.

Before clicking into the next message I bit into another mouthful of noodles, savoy ring the beef flavor before remembering that I had to go and change before six.

I groaned and dumped my untie he'd noodles in the bin and paced over to my bedroom, reading the next text.

-It's Amy. How ya going?-

I groaned again.

I was not going to answer any texts from girls because I didn't want to give them the wrong impression.

I don't even know how they got my phone number, I thought as I grabbed a pair of blue bored shirts from the messy pile of clothes in my wardrobe along with a white singlet.

I called out to my sister that I was ready and she yelled back at me that she was relieved and I laughed, walking out the front where Maxine stood, a smile stretched across her face.
