Chapter 3

Chapter 3:

Max Henderson:

"Maxine!" I called, "are you ready?"

The blue BMW car door was wide open while I waited for Maxine to stop fussing over her makeup and get out of the house already.

I glanced around the spacious garage, noting in my head that the place needed to be cleaned.

Over in the far corner was washing gear that was lying in the corner waiting for use with yellow sponges that sat beside them with water still evident on the sponge.

You could see a round puddle of water beside it and when I looked upwards by a centimeter I saw a bunch of trophies laying on the thin, cardboard like shelf.

I furrowed my thick eyebrows in confusion.

Hearing clicking footsteps from behind me, I turned around to face the smiling form of my twin sister; Maxine.

"What you looking at?" Maxine asked me, her brown eyes lingering onto my face.

"These trophies. Where'd they come from?" I looked at my sister waiting for her to answer.

"Trophies?" She responded walking over to my side and glancing upwards at the scattered trophies.

Maxine grabbed one of the small trophies that was in the shape of a football and studied it closely.

She twisted the trophy around in circles until she spotted the plaque on the front side of the trophy.

I inched closer towards her, glancing at the gold trophy from over her shoulder.

The writing was hard to decipher as it was covered in dust but I watched as Maxine rubbed her finger over it, removing the dust causing the little particles to fly in the air around the both of us.

"Daniel Henderson." My sister read out, tucking a piece of her brown hair behind her tiny ears that stuck out in the slightest way possible.

"These were Dads trophies?" I questioned.

"I guess so. It says here that his team came first in football, 1985."

I rubbed my brown eyes in disbelief.

Since when did he play football?

"Wow." I breathed.

She shrugged her shoulders in response, turning around and hopping into the car in a lady like fashion.

I jumped in myself, pulling the door shut.

I wrapped my fingers around the red steering wheel, pushing my large foot onto the right pedal, only after checking my mirror and the cream coloured, brick walls.

Reaching the end of the garage, I turned the car left which caused my muscled arms to jerk sideways.

I stared out the front window to the car, my eyes whizzing past the blurring scenery.

"You coming to help me with the food supplies for the homeless this afternoon?" Maxine asked me, her voice curious.

"Yep." I answered, keeping my eyes trained on the road ahead.

The black gates to the school made their way into my eyes and I turned the car towards the right, driving into the car park.

The car park was spacious, yellow lines marking the spaces of the parking.

I turned the car into a free space next to a white truck, along with a small, yellow buggie.

I lifted my foot from the pedal, slowing the car to a halt, the radio instantly cutting off with, "And the sky is falling down."

I almost laughed at the lyrics but wrapped my hand around the black handler, pulling it, making the car door open.

I lifted my legs out and stood up, shutting my door behind me.

I turned to face Maxine who was standing in the middle of the parking lot making hand gestures as she talked to four girls.

Maxine turned her head slowly, her eyes rolling with annoyance and I snickered.

The four girls beside her were all blonde, although one had strands of brown underneath the blonde parts.

I brought my muscly arm to the top of my head where I ruffled my dark brown hair that was sticking up slightly.

I heard the school bell ring loudly and I fixed the black strap of my bag by pulling the long cord downwards.

The birds flew over the top of my head and I glanced at them with my eyes flickering past each black bird that was soaring through the bright blue sky that had fluffy white clouds spotted throughout the sky.

Maxine made her way over towards me, her straight, brown hair bobbing up and down.

I walked forward, over to Maxine.

Together we both walked through the school side by side each other, stopping to talk to a few kids before walking on again.

The school looked old with the dispatching roofs where workers were standing in their bright yellow shirts on top of their ladders with screwdrivers, spanner, nails and some red paint.

I turned the corner and entered a corridor with four blue doors lined in a row.

C5, C6, C7, C8 and C9.

My roll call class was the first one in the narrow corridor; C9.

There was a line up of roughly twenty kids who were all talking to their friends, leaning against the bricked wall.

I sighed, leaning against the wall myself, turning to chat to a guy named Percy, who once upon a day used to be my best friend.

I still talk to him nearly everyday, just not hanging out.

"How ya going dude!"

"Don't call me dude, Percy." I grumbled.

"I'm a man!" I smirked with a half smile at Percy who had his green eyes opened rather widely.

"Man, seriously. What's the difference." He said rubbing underneath his eye with his big finger.

"The difference? Man is a mature, grown man and a dude is a guy who is 'so cool'" I responded with a shrug of my shoulders.

Hearing clicking sounds I turned around, scraping the sole of my black sneakers against the concreted pebbles.

Mr Crow was walking towards us, his grey hair damp with sweat and he clicked onto a blue pen repeatedly.

I scrunched my nose up in disgust.

Unhealthy much.

I watched as the teacher begun striding towards the blue door, grabbing his bundle of keys from the black pockets of his dress pants, in which were sizes too big from when he'd gone on a diet.

The keys twisted around in a circle as his beer belly jiggled in the slightest.

The diet he went on didn't quite work as well as planned, although he did work off some excess weight.

The row of students filed in one by one.

Maxine and I were at the end of the line, me being in front of Maxine and behind Percy.

I put my leg in front of my left, then my right in front of the left one, reaching the open door which revealed the square classroom with the people sitting down in their seats.

I pulled out a blue chair from the two seated table in the middle of the classroom, left side.

My legs crumpled causing my butt to land on the chair softly and I turned to the left so that I could talk to one of my good friends; Damon Richards.

"Hey." I said blinking my eyes and re-opening them.

"Hey Max. How'd the weekend treat ya?"

I laughed.

"Good. I went to a fundraiser with Maxine. You?" I asked.

Damon clicked with his tongue, his eyes staring at the blue wall that was covered in posters that advertised movies.

Using my finger I poked him in the shoulder in hoped he would face me.

Damon continued to stare at the posters until I curled my fist into a ball and punched him in the shoulder.

"Ow!" Damon shrieked in a girly voice as he turned to face me, rubbing his shoulder.

Sometimes I really doubted his manliness.

I picked at my thumb nail, awaiting on the response from Damon.

He moved his hand over his shoulder causing his navy blue jumper to scrunch up around the area.

"Thanks, now I've got a bruise on my shoulder and my weekend was delightful."

I gave my friend a strange look which caused my eyebrows to raise and the skin underneath my eye puffing up slightly.

"Damon I really need to commend you on your girliness. Bro do you need me to teach you the basics of talking like a guy? People might assume you're gay." I laughed.

He licked his lips and glared at me, his face heating up in embarrassment.

I shook my brown hair and twisted my back to face the row behind me where Maxine sat her hand massaging her forehead which caused her fringe to be pushed ba址཰.

"Yuck. Do I seriously sound that girly?" Damon question me and turned back around and stared at his pale skin.

"Yeah, seriously."

He groaned in annoyance as he rubbed his temples with the tips of his fingers.

Hearing my name coming from the deep voice of the teacher I raised my hand, not bothering to speak.

While Damon groaned about his girliness I stared deeply at the blue carpet that had green cotton parts mixed throughout it.

As I looked up the left side of my neck cracked loudly and my eyes flickered left from right in hopes that nobody noticed me.

The bell rung throughout the school making the class to stand up and squeeze past the door.

I waited for the other students to walk out before picking my bag up from the floor and secured it around my arms.

Kids screamed and talked to each other, walking, footsteps creaking over the pebbled hallway.

Maxine had disappeared along with her flock of 'friends' and was most likely walking to first period.

I stopped walking when I reached a group of my friends who were standing in a circle, chatting away.

"Hey guys." I waved at them.

My hand moving side to side in a swift motion.

"Buddy, Max." They smiled at me, forming a line as they walked with me until they all broke away, leaving for separate classes.

"See ya Max, buddy." , Lachlan waved at me, his pink lips opening a crack.

"See ya." I responded and turned away, walking until I came to face the wide open door of A block.

Class time.

(Authors note- sorry this chapter starts of good, then gets worse and worse. Apologies, but I'm planning on going back through and editing everything later.)
