Chapter 11
Chapter 11:
Sawyer Sadie:
"That ice-cream good Ed?" I asked my little brother who was licking a chocolate ice-cream cone with his tongue.
"Yes it is Sawy. Can I have another one." He smiled up at me.
I shook my head at him and checked my watch that I'd had since I was a little baby.
3:00.
That meant that everyone that had gone to school was out but it didn't worry me because nobody would recognize me while I was wearing normal clothes.
I walked with Ed beside me over to the park where kids were playing happily.
There was a swing set where two kids swung, their smiles bright.
There was also a large triangular figure where you climb the ropes.
Ed let go of my hand and ran quickly over to the climbing frame where I knew that he would go down the slide attached to it.
I ran after him and stood at the edge of the climbing frame staring at Ed slowly climb up, then moving towards the left.
From the corner if my eye I noticed a flash of black hair and I turned to meet my eyes with these gorgeous sapphire ones.
My eyes flickered up to see this guys black hair sticking up in different angles while a piece clung to his pale forehead.
His lips were formed in a creepy half smile, showing the ends of his white teeth, but not too white.
"Is that your brother?" The mystery guy said deeply.
"Yep." I replied, not wanting to talk to the guy.
"Unless I'm looking at some other kid, then that's awkward." He babbled and looked upwards.
I pointed at Ed who was sliding down the slide, a smile reaching halfway up his cheeks and he clapped his hands together in delight.
"That's him." I said, no emotion coming out of my voice.
"He's cute. My sister is the little girl on the swings over there." Mystery guy said pointing to a little girl that had the same black hair as the guy.
"She looks like you." I responded with an emotionless face.
"Yeah she does and you know if you smile it'd make you prettier than you already are, oh and I'm Dean, Dean Underwood." Dean flashed a smile at me.
My eyes flickered in disbelief, but I chose to ignore that comment.
He was either lying or I was imaging that sentence.
"So what's your name?" He asked me after realizing I wasn't replying.
"I don't know if ill let you in on that information." I said to him and saw Ed race over to me.
His little hands tugged at my wrist and I looked down to his small figure.
"Sawy, Sawy come on the slide with me." My little brother pleaded.
I laughed and shook my head.
"no you know I hate slides Ed." I said ruffling his hair causing him to move.
"Sawyer don't ruffle my hair." He protested.
I smiled innocently at him when I heard Deans deep voice from beside me.
"So that's your name. Sawyer, I like it." He winked at me and I scoffed.
"No winking. Nothing will ever happen between us." I growled at him, blowing a piece of my blonde curls causing it to land across my face.
Dean laughed at me, a twinkle in his eyes.
This guy was so weird.
How could he be this happy and especially since I had basically just rejected him in front of my little brother.
"Oh did you think I wanted something with you. Yes, I did tell you you were pretty, yes I did wink at you, but come in I barely know you. I'm not that type of guy."
Ed wrapped his arms around my hips and buried his head in softly.
"If you're not that type of guy, then why wink?" I questioned him with a raised eyebrow.
"I don't trust anyone, Dean. That means I'm not going to trust your word. I guess I'll see you later." I said turning around and picking up my brother and hugged him in my arms, my eyes welling up with a wet liquid.
I was about halfway out of the Park in Umina when I heard pattering sounds coming behind me.
I ignored it and kept walking forward feeling Ed move up and down in my arms.
"Wait! Can I have your number?" The deep voice asked me.
I turned around and looked Dean in the eyes, already knowing my answer.
"No. Go away Dean you don't want to associate with anyone like me. I'm a girl who shares herself around with millions of guys because I have trust issues and others things that I'm nit willing to tell you about!" I yelled out.
Ed lifted his head up and looked at me, his head turned sideways.
"Cover your ears. I don't want you to hear this." I whispered in my brothers ear.
Using his hands Ed covered his ears like I asked and I smiled a small smile at him and looked back to Dean.
"Do you honestly think I give a crap? You don't look like one now, do you?" He responded calmly back to me.
I sucked in a breath and glanced up at the clear sky where you could see the shadows of birds flying overhead.
"Yes I do think you give a crap! Everyone does. They don't bother to look beyond my appearance, now do they and you're just all the same. You are seeing what's in front of you now." I blurted out in a yell.
Dean groaned in obvious annoyance, rubbing his arm and glancing at his sister who was still swinging high with a bright smile on her face.
"Sawyer I'm not like that, I understand. You judged me by your first glance too, didn't you?"
"Um no, actually all I did was look at you and think to myself, who is this guy?" I told him truthfully.
I've never been one to judge somebody.
It rarely ever happens when I do.
"Well I really am going to go now. Maybe well see each other one day, maybe not." I waved at a stunned Dean.
"I still want your number." Dean counted back.
"No." I replied again.
"I have a feeling we will meet again though. If we do, I'll know that it was gods way of telling me you're in my life for a reason." I said and finally walked away, not looking back.
Ed had fallen asleep in my arms and was breathing in heavily.
His hand curled around my neck and I felt his moving stomach on my chest and my lips twitched at the sight of his innocents.
If only the world was that simple that a little comforting by a sibling and ice-cream that you could live a happy life again, forgetting the problems going on in life.
I sighed and sat my burghers sleeping form in the car seat, buckling up his seatbelt.
I bent down and kissed him on his cheek, whispering, "I love you Ed and I promise that someday you'll live a better life than the one we live in today."
Getting up from my bending position I opened the door of the front and hopped in.
I inhaled the fresh smell of strawberries that was coming from the little round, pink thing that was stuck onto the windscreen.
I started the car and drove out of the car park and the first thing I heard was my parents yelling again.
I groaned out in frustration and looked behind me to see Ed bolt up and frantically look around.
"It's alright Ed. It's just mum and dad having a um loving discussion."
"They always have those loving discussions Sawy." He looked up at me with a curious glance.
"Yeah they do..." I trailed off staring at the door.
From the window I saw mum and dad arguing with each other and I saw my dad throw a slap at my mums face and I stepped back, covering Eds eyes.
I wasn't game enough to knock on the door while they were fighting like this, so instead I grabbed my brothers hand and led him to the back gate where we could get into the back yard.
There's a door at the back that led into the house.
Opening the gate I felt the grass against my bare legs and waded over to the back door where the white, fluffy cat sat.
Knowing the door was unlocked I pulled it with my arm and felt the cat start to rub against my bare skin.
"Hello Kit." I spoke to the purring cat.
"Kit!" Ed shouted, wrapping his arms around it, collecting bits of cat fur.
"Ed leave the poor cat alone." I shook my head, resisting a small smile at my brothers cuteness.
He was my joy that I could never dream of leaving behind to live in this place with parents that don't even care.
Ed and I walked into the back part of the house and I brought him to his bedroom, telling him that he needed to get his pajamas on.
He held up his superman pajamas with a smile on his face.
"These ones?"
"Yeah."
"Okay. Get out of my room then. I have to change." He laughed.
"Alright, alright I'm going out now." I replied to him and opened up the door and wandered out to the kitchen so I could grab some bits and pieces for dinner before running into a fighting mum and dad."
When I got out there I went over it the white fridge and opened the door which revealed barely anything except a carton of eggs, milk and yoghurt.
Stretching my arm out my fingers wrapped around the container of yoghurt when I heard a loud scream.
I jumped and dropped the yoghurt container on the floor, running towards the room the scream came from.
My heart thumped loudly in my chest and I let out a shaky breath.
I could recognize that scream from anywhere.
