The flowers in the fields of Amity were so pointless to anyone other than the Amity before the war.
No one would go outside of their Faction just for a visit, well unless it was on business or something.
Things have changed for the better, one might say.
Another may have disregarded any change and just kept living their life with the now broken Faction system.
And then there is those that just refused change; most of them moved outside the city.
As for Tris and I, well, we just live our lives to the fullest. It's so strange, seeing how so many people survived, but how so many didn't.
I'm just glad we are okay.
That's the main thing.
We are okay.
I just hope we will be for the rest of our lives.
That's why I wanted to take her to Amity today: to embrace the now broken Factions; to be at Amity while not being on the run at the outbreak of war, but just to enjoy ourselves.
Picking up my dog, Indiana in one arm, and run beside the train then swinging on, setting Indiana down on the inside. Tris is still running beside the train when I reach down and scoop her into my arms as well. Indiana wags his tail and happily barks when we both are now inside the train.
It's almost the same process when we leave the train once finally arriving at Amity. I pick up Indiana in my arms; his green leash is dangling from the black harness strapped around him, and jump from the train with Tris right behind me.
The broken Factions are so similar to each other now that there isn't really a huge difference between the clothing here in Amity and back home in Dauntless. Everyone just wears a mixture of colors, with their mixture of personalities.
Even Tris wears a lighter colored grey T-shirt with a pair of blue jeans and her black combat boots. I wear a faded navy blue shirt along with blue jeans and boots.
The Factions are here, just not like they were before.
We start walking through the many fields of crops, Indiana pulling on his leash very excitedly at all of the new scents and new people. Once we are far enough away from all of the people and closer to the outskirts of the faction I unclip him from his leash and he goes bolting in the direction of the yellow flowers.
"Indiana!" She laughs and runs after the wild dog.
I run after my girl who runs after my dog.
What can I say?
We are truly a piece of work.
She stops at the border of the flower patch, my dog lost somewhere inside the sea of yellow blowing in the gentle breeze; almost like ripples in a pond.
I stand behind her as she looks over the flowers, her blonde ponytail gently blowing across her back and a smile across her face. Her hair has grown out since she had cut it years ago. She turns back to look at he, her glorious blue-grey orbs meeting my darker blue ones.
That blue-grey color that I could look at and get lost in for more than a century.
How did I ever get so lucky?
She smiles at me and I stroll up to her side, my arm making its way around her small waist. We peacefully stand and watch over the yellow sea side by side. The field is so big it seems like it never stops. It just keeps rolling in ripples with the gentle breeze.
But I don't look at the sea of yellow blossoms; I just look at Tris.
Nothing could be more beautiful than her.
Every inch of her facial features is fascinating. The way she looks across the field in such a calm manor, like there isn't a care in the world.
I love her.
I really do.
I love her more than I thought was possible.
"It's not nice to stare, you know." She turns around smiling at me.
I run my hand over the top of her soft blonde hair, stopping at the thin black hair tie that keeps it back. Gently, I remove the tie, her hair immediately blowing with the breeze for now it is free of the elastic. It blows at the same rate of the ripples in the sea of yellow flowers.
Tris groans, her hair blowing into her face. She struggles to push it out of her face, but it's no use. I chuckle at her adorable frustration.
"Give me that back!" She groans, obviously wanting for me to give her the small piece of elastic.
"You're going to have to catch me first!" I laugh taking off down the clearing where no flowers are planted.
I hear her footsteps following behind me as I make my way jogging down a section of blue flowers, then red, and eventually back to the sea of yellow ones.
I hear her just at my heels as I make my way right to the edge of where the yellow flowers are planted. Quickly, I stop and whip around, catching her in my arms.
"Look at that. You got me. Now what are you going to do?" I tease.
She gives me a knowing smile as my hands snake around her waist and her lips press to mine.
The now setting sun casts a shadow of the two of us across the field of many colored flowers. My hand goes to her still loose hair as it blows in the wind and I smile.
This is the way things should always be.
It's one of those kisses that would never end; one of those that neither of us would ever pull apart.
But of course, all good things must come to an end.
We both jump when my brown dog with a big black spot on his back pops out of yellow flowers next to us, a little blob of yellow resting atop of his nose.
Like I said:
This is the way things should be.
