The Wildfire and the Designer
"We didn't know you had a son, Chief Chogan." Eric said.
"Elsu has a wild spirit. Many call him Wildfire," he said, "A month ago from tomorrow, I permitted him to explore the world. We agreed that every month on that day, he goes to Grandisle City and awaits the medicine for his Pokémon."
"That's so sweet!" Nina said.
Chief Chogan nodded with a kind smile.
"Tell him Ajax Village says hello and that we miss him." Chief Chogan said.
"We will," I said, "Thank you so much for your hospitality, Chief Chogan."
Chief Chogan shook his head and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Thank you," he said, "If it were not for you four, I do not even want to begin to imagine what could've happened to me, my comrades, or Sceptile."
The others and I smiled warmly at the chief.
"Allow me to take you to your hut," Chief Chogan said, "It is dangerous to go out into the jungle at night. It is like a maze; some Pokémon are not that friendly when their slumber is disturbed."
Nodding to the chief, we followed him to see many natives dancing around the fire. After returning our Pokémon to their Pokéballs, we followed the chief to a small hut close to the village square.
"You children can stay here until morning." Chief Chogan said.
"Thank you." we said.
The chief smiled and bowed before taking his leave. I looked around the hut and saw small beds in every corner. Libby hopped off my shoulder and onto a bed, immediately falling asleep.
"Guess all that dancing tired her out." Nina said.
"Libby's not the only one." Kat said, pointing.
Looking in the pointed direction, Angel was sleeping on a separate bed.
"Well, we better get some rest as well," Eric said, "We have to deliver the package in the morning."
"Good idea." I said with a yawn.
Changing into our sleepwear, we climbed into bed and went to sleep, the sound of the natives singing becoming fainter and fainter.
I wonder what Chief Chogan's son looks like...?
Morning came, and the four of us were up, saying our final goodbyes to Ajax Village.
"We'll come and visit whenever we can." Kat said.
"It would be such an honor to have you four here again." said a native woman.
That's when Ajax leaped out of his Pokéball and let out a mighty cry. Chief Chogan walked up to him and placed a hand on the side of his face.
"Take care, Sceptile," he said, "And watch over these kids, okay?"
Ajax leaned into his touch and let out a friendly cry. Chief Chogan smiled and backed away.
"Remember, head east, and you will be in Grandisle City." Chief Chogan said.
"And say under the Dragon Flame," Nina said, "Got it!"
The chief nodded firmly. After returning Ajax to his Pokéball, I released Charcoal and Jet from theirs. They both let out cries before hunching over. The four of us climbed on their backs and smiled at the natives.
"Goodbye, everyone!" Eric said.
"Farwell!" Kat said.
Waving goodbye, Charcoal and Jet flew through the canopy, leaving the hidden village behind.
"Last night was a lot of fun!" Nina said, "I'm so glad we got to experience an ancient traditional festival!"
"I know! On top of that, Era and Eric, your Pokémon evolved!" Kat said.
"That's true," Eric said, "Era, we're definitely gonna have to train up our newly evolved Pokémon more now."
"Right you are, my friend!" I said.
I can't wait to see what potential lies within Zora and Jawbreaker!
Flying past the clouds, we eventually arrived at Grandisle City.
"In front of the Pokémon Center, you two." I said.
Jet and Charcoal nodded and swooped down in front of the red-and-white building. Hopping off their backs, I returned them to their Pokéballs and walked inside. I walked over to the phone and quickly called Grandma Eli.
"Hello, Era!" she said happily, "How are you?"
"Great, Grandma Eli!" I said, "Do you think I can send one of my Pokémon to stay with you for a while?"
Grandma Eli grinned and nodded.
"Of course, you can!" she said.
Kind of surprised she's not asking why.
"Who are you sending over?" she asked.
I thought for a while before smiling.
"I'll send over Kaiba," I said, "Maybe your Altaria can show her a thing or two."
"That's fine with me." she said.
I drew my Pokéball and smiled down at it.
"Kaiba, you're gonna learn from the best to get stronger." I said.
Breathing out, I placed the Pokéball on the small platform in front of me. It was then caged in bright green static, disappearing a second after.
"Go it!" Grandma Eli said.
"Thanks so much, Grandma Eli." I said.
"Don't mention it. Remember, whatever you need, call me."
I nodded with a bright smile on my face. Saying goodbye, I walked over to the front desk and handed Libby and my other Pokéballs to Nurse Joy.
"So, now what?" Nina said.
"We find Chief Chogan's son and deliver this package." Kat said.
Nodding to my friend, I walked around the Pokémon Center, hoping to find the chief's son. I walked up to the café and sat down at the counter. I looked around and saw some adults and young trainers around me.
Better now than never, I suppose.
I looked over at a blonde-haired woman and smiled.
"Under the Dragon Flame." I said.
She grinned and cocked her head to the side.
Not her.
I sighed and turned around to see a middle-aged man with dark skin.
"Under the Dragon Flame." I said.
The man raised a brow and cocked his head to the side.
This is so awkward just saying this to random people. Well, no one knows what I'm saying, and the only one who will respond is Elsu, but where, or who, could he be?
I hopped down from the café and walked to the front desk to collect my Pokémon. That's when I saw a boy with dark tan skin, black hair, and light brown eyes. He wore a brown and red hat with a matching red shirt, a golden-yellow and white shawl with hints of red and brown, blue pants, and brown boots.
Those colors match those of Ajax Village almost.
He looked up at me and gave me a warm smile. I smiled back and waved.
"Under the Dragon Flame." I said.
"Under the Dragon Flame." he responded.
My eyes widened.
I found him!
"Libby, bring the others here." I said.
Libby nodded with a cry before hopping off my shoulder.
"So, you're Elsu, correct?" I asked.
"Sure am!" he said, "And you are?"
"Eragona. Your father sent my friends and me to deliver your package. He and the rest of the village say hello and that they miss you."
I turned around to see Libby walking over with the others in tow. My partner let out a cry before hopping back on my shoulder.
"This is Elsu?" Eric asked.
"Yup!" I said, "Elsu, meet Kat, Nina, and Eric."
"Nice to meet you all," he said, "Thanks for bringing my package.
"You're welcome!" Nina said.
Kat reached into her bag and pulled out the small box. Elsu smiled and took the box gladly.
"Your outfit is really stylish, Elsu!" Kat said, "It really reminds me of... you-know-where."
"Thanks. A friend of mine made it for me. She's right there." Elsu said, pointing behind us.
We turned around to see a girl with light skin, dark pink hair, and golden eyes. She wore a dark blue beret with a pale pink bow, a matching dark blue skirt, and a dark magenta blouse with matching dark magenta boots.
"Hey! Rina!" Elsu called out.
The girl looked over and jogged up to us.
"Meet Rina, the one who made me these clothes!" Elsu said.
Our eyes widened in shock.
"You made this?!" Nina asked.
"Uh, yeah. I did..." she said softly.
She's shy, I can tell.
I smiled and took a step forward.
"Nice to meet you, Rina," I said, holding out my hand, "I'm Eragona."
"I'm Kat." Kat said.
"Nina here!" Nina said.
"And I'm Eric." Eric said.
Rina smiled and grasped my hand.
"Nice to meet you all!" she said with a smile.
"So, you know about Elsu?" Kat asked.
"Yeah, he told me everything. I just wanted to help keep his secret, well, a secret."
"What you made for him is amazing!" Nina said, "It looks like native clothes but with a modern flair!"
Rina smiled sheepishly and nodded.
"Yeah. I made the clothes I'm wearing now as well." she said.
"Wow! You have a talent, Rina," Eric said, "No, a gift!"
Rina chuckled and nodded. That's when a small, pink Pokémon came sprinting up to us. I took out my Pokédex and scanned the small Pokémon.
"Snubbull, the Fairy Pokémon. It has an active, playful nature. Although it looks frightening, it is actually kind and affectionate."
Rina smiled and picked up the Snubbull.
"This is my buddy, Snubbull," she said, "She was a gift from my mom before I left for my journey."
"She's adorable!" Nina said, petting the Pokémon's head, "Wish I had a Snubbull."
The Snubbul let out a friendly cry and leaned into Nina's touch. Libby and Angel let out friendly cries, to which Snubbull returned.
"So, Rina, what region are you from?" Eric asked.
"Kalos!" she said.
"Me too!" Kat said excitedly.
"What are your hobbies besides fashion designing?" I asked.
"Nothing much else. I don't like to battle much, so I make clothes for my friends, family, Pokémon, and myself."
The six of us walked to the front desk and watched as the others collected their Pokémon.
"Have you ever thought about selling your clothes?" I asked, "With your sense of style, who wouldn't buy your clothes?"
"Oh, my goodness, yes! I've always wanted to show off my clothes!" Rina began, "But, um... I'm too shy and wouldn't know where to start..."
Snubbull let out a cry and rubbed its face against its trainer's.
"Don't worry, Rina," Elsu said, "One day, I'm positive you'll find the courage to show off your designs!"
Rina looked up and smiled.
"Thanks, Elsu." she said.
Elsu smiled wide and nodded.
They have an interestingly sweet dynamic, even though they have entirely different personalities, like a skittish Skitty and an upbeat Totodile.
"Why don't we talk outside?" Eric suggested.
Nodding to our friend, the six of us walked through the doors and started walking along the semi-busy streets.
"So, what other Pokémon do you guys have?" Kat asked.
The duo grinned at one another before tossing up their Pokéballs. Like clockwork, a multitude of Pokémon appeared. Rina had a Cubone, Furret, and Jumpluff, and Elsu had a Fletchinder, Yanma, Sliggoo, and Scolipede.
"Wow! Those are some powerhouse Pokémon!" Eric said, looking at Elsu.
"And adorable ones!" Nina said, looking at Rina.
"Thanks!" the duo said.
The Fletchinder let out a cry before perching itself on Elsu's shoulder. I took out my Pokédex and scanned the bird Pokémon.
"Fletchinder, the Ember Pokémon. From its beak, it expels embers that set the tall grass on fire. Then it pounces on the bewildered prey that pop out of the grass. The hotter the flame sac on its belly, the faster it can fly, but it takes some time to get the fire going."
"Fletchinder here has been with me through thick and thin." Elsu said.
Fletchinder let out a cry and fluttered its wings.
"Fletnchinder is from Kalos, you know?" Rina commented.
"Really?" Eric asked.
"Yup. It evolves from Fletchling," Kat said, "I was surprised when Fletchling evolved into a Fire-type."
Wow! That's so cool!
Amid our conversation, an idea came to mind.
"Rina, random thought, but I think I know a way to broadcast your designs!" I said.
"How?" she asked.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out a silver ticket.
"Pack your bags, guys! We're going to Zloria City to get Rina on the Beautiful Norm!" I announced excitedly.
