Team Xenon's Debut

"Congratulations, you two!" Grandma Eli cried happily, "I saw everything on TV!"

"Thank you, Ms. Elise!" Kat said.

Grandma Eli chuckled and shook her head fondly.

"Call me Eli, dear," she said, "And Eragona, congratulations on Jet evolving. Were you surprised?"

"I was! I still feel like Jet has more to him. I know it," I said, "But having my first Dragon-type Pokémon evolve will surely help me out in the long run."

Grandma Eli shrugged with a kind smile.

"Well, that's a mystery I want you to solve on your own, my dragonet," she said, "Best wishes to you all!"

Waving goodbye to my grandmother, I put my phone back in my pocket and sighed.

"So, where to now?" Kat asked, "After all that battling, I could really use some rest and relaxation."

"Well, you're in luck. If we keep following this path, we'll be in Cavern Cove City," I said, "It's a small city on the coast of Ezonia, and it's known for its beaches and resorts."

Kat turned to me and smiled.

"Now you're speakin' my language!" Kat said.

I smiled as I stopped to pull out Jet's Pokéball. Tossing it up, the ball opened, and Jet came out with a friendly cry.

I still can't believe he's a Gabite now...

Kat grinned and pulled out her Pokéballs as well. Aiming them at the ground, her Goodra and Beautifly appeared. Libby hopped off my shoulder and sat in front of the other Pokémon and Angel.

"Okay, everyone. We're going to Cavern Cove City to have some fun and relax at a lovely beach. After all that battling, you all deserve a break," I said, "What do you say, gang?"

All our Pokémon let out happy cries.

"Then, it's settled. Let's get going!" I said.

When our Pokémon agreed, we continued our way to Cavern Cove City. While chatting with Kat, a feeling of uncertainty came over me.

Something doesn't feel right... Why does it feel like the atmosphere suddenly... shifted?

"Fire!" cried an unfamiliar voice.

After the cry, a large net came our way.

"Move!" I cried.

I tackled Kat to the ground to dodge the net. That's when the net encased around Jet. He let out frantic cries and struggled against the trap. The net soon tightened its grip around Jet, completely immobilizing him. That's when two people walked out from the bushes ahead of us. They wore dark blue uniforms and light denim blue caps. A bright blue X was on the woman's chest and the man's hat.

"We've captured a Gabite, sir." the man said, pressing on his earpiece.

"Hey, let my Pokémon go!" I cried, standing up.

Libby, Goodra, Angel, and Beautifly stood in front of Kat and me as they let out low growls. The man and woman looked at us with annoyed faces, only to grin sinisterly.

"Aw, is this your Gabite? We had no idea," the woman said dramatically, "Don't worry, we'll take good care of him..."

The man tossed up a Pokéball, and a Braviary appeared.

"Take this Gabite back to the outpost." the man said.

The Braviary grabbed the net and lifted Jet into the air.

"Goodra, Flamethrower!" Kat cried.

"Ah, ah, ah... I wouldn't do that if I were you," the woman said, "You attack Braviary, and your beloved friend falls."

I growled as I glared at the two people.

"Who are you guys?" Kat asked.

"We are Team Xenon. Our goal is to rule this world with an army of mega evolved Pokémon at our disposal," the man said, "And your Gabite just so happens to be one of those Pokémon."

"What are you talking about? My Gabite can't mega evolve." I said.

"Not yet." the woman said.

What are they talking about...?

"Seviper!" the woman cried, tossing up a Pokéball.

On command, the Fang Snake Pokémon appeared. It glared at us with a hiss.

"Thanks for the Gabite, kid," the woman said, "Haze!"

The Seviper hissed and emitted a cloud of black smoke.

"I can't see!" I cried.

"Beautifly, Gust!" Kat cried.

Beautifly flew up and flapped its wings violently, clearing up the smoke. When I could see, the man and woman were gone.

"Where'd they go?" I questioned.

Looking around, there were no signs of Team Xenon. I growled as I balled my hand into a fist.

"They won't get away with stealing my Jet!" I cried.

"They said they were taking him back to their outpost," Kat said, "Maybe their outpost is in Cavern Cove City. They couldn't have gotten far."

I sighed and nodded.

"Come on. To Cavern Cove City!" I said sternly.

Libby hopped on my shoulder and let out a firm cry.

"Beautifly, fly ahead to see if you can find them." Kat said.

Her Beautifly nodded and flew ahead of us. Once Kat returned her Goodra to its Pokéball, she, Angel, Libby, and I started sprinting down the path that led to the next city.

Please be okay, Jet...

Before we arrived at Cavern Cove City, Beautifly returned and let out a small cry.

"You found their outpost?" Kat asked.

Beautifly nodded and let out a frantic cry.

"Take us there!" Kat said firmly.

Beautifly flipped around and flew into the city. Upon our arrival, the smell of the ocean filled the air.

No time to start gawking. We have to find Jet!

Continuing to follow Beautifly, the small Pokémon led us down the boardwalk and onto the beach.

Their outpost is on the beach...?

Walking down the beach, Beautifly stopped in front of a cave. Creeping up to the cave, I peered my head around the corner, and my eyes widened. Large computers and pieces of tech could be seen all over the cave. More Team Xenon members were all over the cave as well. Looking in the center of the cave, I saw Jet in a cage along with a Mawile, Buneary, and Sableye. In the cell next to them were Ampharos, Lucario, and Absol.

Why does Team Xenon have so many Pokémon? Are all these Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution...?

That's when a young man with tan skin and orange hair walked up to the captive Pokémon. Looking closely, the young man had an eyepatch over his left eye.

"Which one did you catch again?" he asked.

"This Gabite, sir," the man from before said, "We got it from some bratty trainer."

The young man only grinned.

"Perfect. The boss will be very pleased." he said.

I growled and pulled my head from around the corner.

"What are we going to do, Eragona? If we go in there now, we'll surely get caught." Kat said.

Angel, Beautifly, and Libby nodded in agreement. I leaned back against the cave's side and hummed in thought.

"What we need is a distraction. Kat, do you think your Beautifly can distract the members' Pokémon?" I asked.

Kat looked up at Beautifly, and her Pokémon nodded.

"Angel, can you go with Beautifly?" I asked.

Angel let out a firm cry and nodded. I breathed out and turned to Kat.

"You and I will take care of whoever is left inside the cave," I said, "Our objective is to get Jet and the other Pokémon out of there."

"Read you loud and clear." Kat said.

Kat nodded to Beautifly and Angel, and the two Pokémon walked out to the cave's entrance. Beautifly used her Gust attack to get catch Team Xenon's attention.

"Those are the Pokémon that the other brat had!" cried the woman from before.

The other members stopped what they were doing and tossed up their Pokéballs. Out came multiple different Pokémon. Angel opened her mouth and released a loud shout that echoed throughout the cave.

That was Hyper Voice! Wow, Angel is strong!

After stunning the opposing Pokémon, Beautifly and Angel raced further down the beach.

"After them!" the man cried.

The Pokémon got out of their daze and raced after Angel and Beautifly. Kat and I nodded to one another and made our way into the cave.

"Hey! Over here!" I cried.

All the members turned to face us with surprised looks.

"That's the brat we stole the Gabite from, sir." the woman said.

The young man with the eyepatch stared at me and grinned.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Commander Gabriel of Team Xenon, my dear," he answered calmly, "I should really thank you for donating such a valuable Pokémon to us."

"Yeah, right? What do you plan on doing to these Pokémon?" Kat asked.

Gabriel chuckled and shook his head fondly.

"I guess I can humor your little heads," he said, "These Pokémon before you, including you, Gabite, are all capable of Mega Evolution. Your Gabite may not look it, but he has a lot of potential inside him just waiting to show itself to us."

I growled at the commander, feeling my blood boil with anger and rage.

"Alright, that's enough outta you." Kat said, pulling out her Pokéball.

Throwing her Pokéball, Goodra came out with a loud cry. Libby hopped off my shoulder and growled at the commander. Gabriel only smiled. The other members brought out their Pokéballs, but Gabriel stopped them.

"If it's a fight you want, then it's a fight you'll get." he said calmly.

Tossing up a Pokéball, a purple, feline-like Pokémon appeared. Taking out my Pokédex, I scanned the commander's Pokémon.

"Liepard, the Cruel Pokémon. Stealthily, it sneaks up on its target, striking from behind before its victim has a chance to react."

"Liepard, Shadow Ball!" Gabriel ordered.

The Liepard let out a cry before releasing a shadowy blob from its mouth.

"Use Shadow Ball, too!" I cried.

Libby leaped up and released her own shadowy blob. Both attacks collided, causing an explosion.

"Dragon Pulse!" Kat cried.

Goodra gaped open its mouth and let out a multi-colored shock wave.

"Block it with Iron Tail!" Gabriel said.

The Liepard's tail soon started to glow. The Cruel Pokémon ran up to the attack and swung its tail at the Dragon Pulse, cutting it in half.

"What? How?" Kat questioned.

"My Liepard is very special, you see. Its tail has been injected with liquid metal, making it as hard as the metal itself." Gabriel said.

The Liepard paced back and forth with a sly smirk on its face. I growled and looked over at the captured Pokémon.

"Don't worry; we'll get you guys out of there!" I said.

Gabriel glanced back at the Pokémon before smirking back at me.

"Good luck with that, sweetheart," he said, "Dark Pulse!"

Liepard let out a meow-like cry and released a dark aura.

"Swift!" I cried.

Libby leaped up and flipped in the air, firing star-shaped rays to negate the Dark Pulse.

"Flamethrower!" Kat cried.

Goodra then roared a large burst of flames that hit the Liepard. The Liepard got blown back and slammed against the cage behind Gabriel.

"Liepard!" Gabriel cried.

"Don't move..." I growled.

Libby and Goodra loomed over Gabriel with a Shadow Ball and Focus Blast at the ready. Before the other grunts could help their commander, Goodra faced them with a charged Focus Blast.

"Release the Pokémon. Now." Kat demanded.

Gabriel sighed and snapped his fingers. Two grunts walked up to the cages and opened them, only to quickly move back. Jet and the other small Pokémon sprinted behind us, whereas the larger Pokémon stood in front of us.

"Leave this city alone and never return." I growled.

Gabriel returned his Liepard to its Pokéball and sighed. That's when he brought out his Crobat.

"Alright, everyone, retreat." Gabriel said.

The grunts nodded and left their outpost to get their Pokémon. Gabriel turned to me and cocked his head to the side.

"You know, you look a lot like the boss." he said.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

The commander only grinned as he walked past us.

"Farewell, my dears. Until we meet again," Gabriel said with a smile, "Haze!"

His Crobat hissed out its cry and released a cloud of black smoke.

"Not again!" I cried.

When the smoke cleared, Gabriel was gone. I breathed out a sigh and looked back at the freed Pokémon.

"Is everyone okay?" I asked.

Every Pokémon let out their unique cry with a smile. Looking down, I smiled when I saw Jet. I crouched in front of him and hugged him tightly.

"Oh, Jet! I'm so glad you're okay!" I said happily.

My Gabite let out a happy cry and nuzzled his head against my cheek. Libby bounced happily in front of Jet, causing him to smile. That's when I heard two familiar cries. Looking back at the cave entrance, Angel and Beautifly were there.

"We're okay, you two! It's over!" Kat said.

Kat's Pokémon came in and smiled at us. I stood up and gazed at the machines and high-tech around us.

"Let's make sure that they can't come back here." I said.

When we were all in agreement, Kat and I walked out with the Pokémon and stood in front of the Team Xenon outpost.

"Buneary, Sableye. You two know Shadow Ball?" I asked.

The two small Pokémon let out confident cries.

"Mawile and Absol. Can you two bring the heat with Flamethrower?" I asked.

The Disaster and Deceiver Pokémon nodded firmly.

"Ampharos and Lucario. Do you know Dragon Pulse?" Kat asked.

The two larger Pokémon pumped their small fists with confident looks. Looking back at the outpost, I couldn't help but grin.

Let's do this!

"Libby, Buneary, and Sableye! Use Shadow Ball!" I cried, "Jet, use Dragon Breath!"

"Goodra, Ampharos, Lucario! Use Dragon Pulse! Mawile and Absol, use Flamethrower!" Kat cried, "Angel, use Moonblast! Beautifly, use Energy Ball!"

Every Pokémon charged up their attacks and fired them into the outpost. When the attacks merged, they caused an explosion, destroying everything inside. Before we got blasted away, Ampharos and Sableye quickly used Protect.

"Thanks, Ampharos. Thanks, Sableye." Kat said.

The two Pokémon brought down the barrier and smiled.

"Let's get you guys back to your trainers." I said.

When Libby hopped on my shoulder, Kat and I walked back to the city. When we arrived, we went from door to door to see if anyone was missing a Pokémon. Luckily, we were able to find the trainers for every single one. I breathed out a heavy sigh and turned to Kat with a smile.

"So, you ready for that rest and relaxation?" I asked.

"Oh, absolutely!" she said dramatically.

Breathing out a chuckle, I guided my friend and our Pokémon to Cavern Cove City's resort. However, what Gabriel said still lingered in the back of my mind.

"You know, you look a lot like the boss."

What did he even mean by that...? How do I look like his boss when I don't even know what they look like?
