Pokémon Lottery [Part 1]
"So, what do you think our eggs will hatch into?" Nina asked.
"I don't know, to be honest. Whatever they'll be, I know we'll take good care of them, right guys?" I asked.
My friends all nodded with smiles.
"Where are we headed now?" Eric asked.
"Well, down this road, Grasmere Town should be just up ahead, right, Nina?" I questioned, looking at the redhead.
"Yup! Grasmere Town may not look like much, but it's a really cozy little town," Nina replied, "It's known for being very floral if I recall. A lot of east Ezonia's produce comes from Grasmere Town's farms."
I nodded with an agreeing grin.
"Yeah, I remember now. My grandma calls it a mini-Alola since all their food is fresh like the food in the Alola region," I chuckled, "Their berries are very sweet and always ripe."
"Ooh! Can't wait to try one." Eric exclaimed happily.
"Same!" Kat said.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Nina said, skipping ahead.
Kat, Eric, and I laughed at the redhead's excitement and raced after her.
I don't think I've ever been to Grasmere Town. I remember Grandma Eli always going there to get some berries, but I don't think I've ever been... Wonder what it looks like...?
Coming up on the town, I could see many hanging plants and flowers on the town's archway.
Nina wasn't kidding when she said this place was floral.
"You've been here before, Nina?" Eric asked, walking at her pace.
"A couple of times. I'd normally come with my mom when she would get berries and other products for herself and her Pokémon," Nina explained, "Like I said, nothing really happens in this here. Just a quiet, little market town."
Once the four of us stepped through the archway, confetti, and flower petals exploded next to us, causing us to flinch. Then, a man dressed in a fine suit appeared.
"Congratulations! You guys have just been awarded free Pokémon Lottery tickets!" he said.
A brown-haired woman with hazel eyes and fair skin, wearing a red dress, walked up to us and handed us colorful tickets. The ticket was pink and blue, black on the left side, and metallic copper letters.
"Quiet, little town, Nina?" I asked, glancing at the redhead with a grin.
"How was I supposed to know?" Nina asked.
Sure...
I fondly rolled my eyes before turning back to the man and woman.
"What do we do with these?" Eric asked.
"With these tickets, you are eligible to compete in the four-day Lottery Challenge!" the man said, "Each day, there will be a lottery where you can win fabulous prizes. There will be one winner every day, so you have a chance to win one day every day!"
"That actually sounds fun!" Kat said.
The others nodded in agreement.
"What are the lotteries for each day?" I asked.
"That's a surprise, sweetpea," the woman said, "You'll just have to wait and see."
I turned to my friends with a wide grin on my face. They wore the same expression.
This could be a great way to pass the time, and just like Kat said, it sounds fun!
"The Lottery Challenge will begin tomorrow afternoon, so you four will be staying in a lovely inn during the challenge," the man said, "Follow us!"
Nodding towards the man, the four of us followed the man and woman inside the town. The town was bustling with Grass and Water-type Pokémon. I smiled when I saw a Squirtle squirt water on an Ivysaur, making the Seed Pokémon smile and let out a happy cry. The town itself was just as Nina had said; the roofs had vines with flowers hanging off them and flowers growing in front of the buildings. Many of the Pokémon tended to the plants or pretended to be them.
This really is a peaceful little town. I never knew they hosted lotteries here... Well, I've never been here, so who am I to question?
Once we arrived at the inn, the man showed us our room and gave us the key. The room had two bunk beds with a Pokéball rug in the center. A table for six in the corner with a large window overlooked the rest of the town.
"This is incredible!" Nina exclaimed.
Libby hopped off my shoulder and sprinted around the room, all while letting out happy cries; Angel did the same. I set my bag down and opened it, only to pull out the incubator with my egg. I set it on the table and stared at it.
What will you hatch into, little one...?
"Thinking about your egg?" Kat asked, her voice taking me out of my thoughts.
I turned to my friend and smiled.
"Yeah. I can't wait for it to hatch." I said.
"Same." Kat said, setting her incubator down on the table next to mine.
Eric and Nina walked up to us and placed their incubators on the table.
"I can't wait for the eggs to hatch!" Nina said.
"Yeah, same." Eric said.
Libby and Angel ran up to us with happy cries.
"You wanna play with the others?" I asked.
Libby and Angel smiled and nodded with friendly cries. I grinned and pulled out my two Pokéballs.
"Kaiba! Jet! Come on out!" I said, aiming the balls at the ground.
The Pokéballs opened, and my Swablu and Gabite came out with friendly cries. They looked around and let out confused cries.
"We're in an inn. We got sucked into a Lottery Challenge." I explained.
They nodded and turned their attention to the eggs on the table. Kaiba flew up to the table and admired the eggs in the glass.
"Yeah, they're eggs. They'll soon hatch; we don't know what they'll hatch into." I said.
Jet smiled and let out a happy cry.
"You've probably seen a bunch of eggs back at the Dragonet Den, huh, Jet?" I asked, patting the hard head.
My Gabite smiled and leaned into my touch. Libby and Angel let out friendly cries and bounced up and down in front of us. Their cuteness made the four of us laugh. Kaiba hopped off the table, and she and Jet added to their happy cries. That's when Goodra and Beautifly jumped out of their Pokéballs, surprising Kat.
"You wanted to play, too?" Kat asked with a smile.
Goodra and Beautifly let out happy cries and joined the others in the middle of the room. The others and I watched with loving eyes as they rolled around and played.
I wish moments like these never ended...
"Hey, now that I'm thinking about it, have we ever fully looked at our tickets?" Nina suddenly said.
Looking at the others, we shook our heads. We took out our tickets and shared them. There were numbers on all our tickets under the copper lettering.
"My numbers are 547021." Eric said.
"I have 287356." Kat said.
"My numbers are 479745." Nina said.
"And mine are 747390," Eragona said, "What do they mean?"
Kat chuckled and glanced at me.
"These numbers are special. Whenever there's a lottery in Kalos, an announcer says six numbers, and if you have them, you win!" Kat said, "It's so simple!"
"And since this Lottery Challenge is four days long, we have a better chance of winning!" Nina said excitedly.
"I'm really curious as to what the prizes could be." I said.
"Me too," Eric said, looking out the window, "Well, we'll find out tomorrow. The sun's setting."
The sky turned orange, giving all the leaves and flowers a gorgeous amber hue.
"Yeah." I said softly.
When I looked in the center of the room, our Pokémon had snuggled up against Goodra's large body and fallen asleep.
"Aww!" Kat, Nina, and I said.
"Guess all that playing tuckered them out." Eric said.
I took out my phone and quietly took a picture of the sleeping Pokémon. The four of us soon changed into our sleepwear and climbed into bed. Nina and I slept on the top bunks, and Kat and Eric slept on the bottom bucks.
"Goodnight, guys." I yawned.
"Night." Kat said.
"Sweet dreams." Nina said.
"See you in the morning." Eric yawned.
Turning on my side, I fell fast asleep.
I wonder what the first lottery's going to be...
A new day dawned, and the four of us got up to explore the rest of the town.
"Hey, didn't you guys want to try the berries here?" Nina asked.
"Yeah. You know where we can get them?" Eric asked.
Nina nodded and gestured her hand for us to follow her. We soon arrived at the town's marketplace. It was small, but there were various things for sale: berries, jewelry, and food for people and Pokémon.
"Why don't we split up and see what this little market has in store?" Kat suggested.
"Sounds like a plan," I said, "Let's meet up at the town square at noon so we can catch the first Lottery Challenge."
When the others nodded, we went our separate ways throughout the market. While walking around, Libby and I stopped in front of a stall selling berry goods: berry juice, berry-flavored candy; everything was made from berries, even the berries themselves.
"See anything that catches your eye?" asked the salesman.
Besides, the salesman was a Servine. Taking out my Pokédex, I scanned the Pokémon in front of me.
"Servine, the Grass Snake Pokémon. It moves along the ground as if sliding. Its swift movements befuddle its foes, and it then attacks with a vine whip."
Cool looking Pokémon.
I hummed as I looked at the berry-based products.
"What do you want, Libby?" I asked, glancing at my partner.
Libby leaned in and let out a small cry as if she were thinking. She then pointed at a small, yellow paper bag. Surrounding it were other paper bags in different colors.
"What's in these bags?" I asked.
"Ah! These are our berry-flavored bean snacks!" the salesman said, "Both people and Pokémon can enjoy them."
The Servine extended its vines to lift the bag and hand it over to me.
"Thank you!" I said.
Opening the bag, there were a lot of small, yellow beans inside.
"Those beans are Sitrus Berry-flavored." the salesman said.
Libby bounced up and down as she let out happy cries.
"That's right! Sitrus Berries are your favorite," I said, "We'll take it."
I reached into my pocket and placed some coins in the salesman's hand.
"Thank you! Enjoy the rest of the market!" he said with a smile.
"We will!" I said.
Waving goodbye, Libby and I started walking around the rest of the marketplace. I reached inside the bag and pulled out one of the beans. Libby happily ate it when I offered it to her. My partner let out a happy cry as she wagged her tail.
I never get tired of seeing that adorable face of hers...
"They must be good if you're this happy," I said, tasting one myself, "And they are! They taste just like a Sitrus Berry, only sweeter, like candy!"
Libby nodded with a wide grin on her face. The two of us wandered around the marketplace to see what was in store.
Everything else for sale was nice but didn't catch my eye, unfortunately... Instead, I think I'm going to go meet up with the others at the Town Square.
Along the way, Libby and I enjoyed the bean snacks we bought. Upon our arrival, we saw the others sitting by the fountain.
"Hey, guys!" I called out.
The three of them looked up and smiled.
"Hey! Find anything you liked?" Nina asked.
"Yeah! Libbs and I were eating some berry bean snacks," I said as I held up the paper bag, "They're berry-flavored beans. They taste exactly like the berry, but sweeter, like candy."
"Angel and I got those as well. She wanted the Pecha Berry one since it was pink." Kat said with a smile.
I chuckled as I sat down next to Kat.
"The lottery's gonna start in a few minutes, so we can just hang here until it starts." Eric commented.
"Good idea." I said.
The four of us relaxed and chatted for a while before we saw more people gathering.
"Guess it's time," Kat said, standing up, "Come on!"
The others and I nodded and followed Kat to the center of the crowd. That's when the man we met yesterday stood above the public on a podium.
"Good afternoon, Grasmere! I'm Nigel, and I would like to welcome you all to the first day of the Lottery Challenge!" he announced happily.
The townspeople all cheered and applauded.
"Now, for today, the prize for whoever has the winning numbers will win..." Nigel began.
The woman from yesterday walked onto the podium, holding up a small device.
Wait. Isn't that...?
"The latest and newest Ezonia Pokédex!" Nigel proclaimed, "It is very hard to get nowadays, and one of you could be the new, proud owner of possessing one!"
Thought so. That's the same Pokédex Grandma Eli gave me before I left home.
"Now, get your tickets out as I read the winning numbers." Nigel said.
The others and I took out our tickets from our pockets and the rest of the crowd. Nigel pulled out a piece of paper and started reading off it.
"287356," Nigel said, "If you have the number 287356, please come on to claim your prize!"
Some people sighed and groaned in defeat and annoyance.
"That's me!" Kat cried happily, waving her ticket in the air.
The others and I smiled and cheered for our friend. Kat grinned and pushed through the crowd to the podium. Showing her ticket to Nigel, he checked it and smiled.
"We have our first Lottery Challenge winner!" Nigel announced, "Here is your prize, my dear!"
Nigel smiled as he presented the Pokédex to Kat. Taking it gladly, Angel and Kat bowed their heads before leaving the podium.
"That's all for today, folks! Be back here tomorrow at the same time to see if you could be the next lucky winner!" Nigel announced.
A small round of applause erupted before the crowd dispersed.
"Congratulations, Kat!" Nina said excitedly.
"Now, you have the same one as mine!" I said.
"I know! Can't wait to bring this back to the Kalos region." she said.
"Well, there's still some light left. Why don't we go to the battlefield behind the Pokémon Center and have a battle?" Eric suggested, "I wanna rematch from the last time we battled. Now that I know your moves, Nina and I might have a chance."
The others and I nodded and followed Eric's lead. Once we arrived at the battlefield, we called out our Pokémon and began our rematch.
Luckily for Kat and me, we knew their moves as well and were able to switch up our fighting style mid-battle. Somehow, we were able to snag another win.
"Next time, you won't win so easily," Eric said, "Next time we battle, we'll use different Pokémon. How does that sound?"
"Different equation, same solution." Kat said, mockery poisoning her words.
"Is that a challenge?" Nina asked, a sly smirk adorning her features.
"Only if you accept it." I answered boldly.
The four of us continued to chat as we walked back to the inn. When we arrived at our room, Libby hopped off my shoulder and sprinted to the beds. She climbed the ladder and fell asleep on the snow-white sheets.
"Guess all that battling did take a toll on her." I said, sitting at the table.
"Yeah, I'm pretty tapped out as well." Kat sighed, lying on her bed and letting out a yawn.
"Same... Let's get some shut-eye," Nina sighed, "I wanna wake up a winner tomorrow!"
"Now that's the attitude I love to hear." Eric said, leaning against the table.
The four of us switched into our sleepwear and went to bed early.
I wonder what the next prize is going to be...
Morning came, and the four of us decided to explore outside town for a while. We walked over to the woods across the way and released our Pokémon. They all came out with friendly cries and bright smiles. The others and I sat under a tree and watched our Pokémon play merrily. A crisp breeze blew past, making the leaves flutter. I breathed out a content sigh and leaned my head against the trunk.
This is relaxing...
My eyes opened to the sound of Libby's cries. Looking over, she and the others were tossing around what appeared to be a small ball. Taking out my Pokédex, I scanned the "ball."
"Sandshrew, the Mouse Pokémon. It burrows and lives underground in arid locations far from water. It only emerges to hunt for prey. If threatened, it curls itself up into a ball for protection."
That's a Pokémon...!?
I couldn't help but chuckle at the situation.
"Guys, stop!" I chuckled, "That's a Sandshrew!"
When Goodra caught the Pokémon, the Sandshrew unfurled itself and was left in a daze, letting out dizzy cries. I couldn't help but laugh.
"Are you okay, little one?" I asked, taking the Sandshrew from Goodra.
When I placed the small Pokémon on the ground, it toppled over in the cutest way.
Poor thing...
When it finally got its balance, the Sandshrew looked around and let out a cry. It then dug back into the ground.
Someone didn't sound happy...
I looked up at the confused Pokémon and laughed. Rushing over to my bag, I pulled out an orange rubber ball.
It's always good to be prepared for everything. You never know what could happen.
I walked back over to the Pokémon and presented the ball.
"Here. Play with this instead of a Pokémon." I chuckled.
Goodra happily took the ball from my hands and passed it to Eric's Krookodile and then to Nina's Mawile. I smiled and walked back over to the others.
"Problem solved." I said, mockingly dusting off my hands.
The others chuckled and looked back at their Pokémon. Another warm breeze swept past, causing us to smile with bliss. Looking down at my phone, I sighed and stood up.
"Come on, guys," I said, "Don't wanna miss the next lottery."
The others got up and nodded. Returning our Pokémon to their Pokéballs, I put the ball back in my bag and followed my friends across the dirt road to the town, a crowd already gathering. Like yesterday, Nigel walked up to the podium with a grin on his face.
"Welcome back, everyone, to the second day of the Lottery Challenge!" he proclaimed.
The crowd around us erupted into applause.
"Now, what is the prize for our lucky winner today, Tatania?" Nigel asked.
The lady from yesterday stepped up to the podium and revealed a red and white camera.
"This is the new PokéCam Pro!" Nigel announced, "Developed by the brilliant minds at Estiria Corporation, this new camera is adaptable to its surroundings. If you're taking pictures in a cave, fear not, for this camera has a built-in flashlight whenever you enter somewhere dark!"
Everyone around us started murmuring excitedly.
"When taking pictures in place with a lot of light, the PokéCam Pro picks it up and reduces the lighting in the frame for the best quality pictures!" Nigel said, "Now, get out your tickets and cross your fingers!"
Everyone pulled out their tickets and waited for Nigel to read the numbers.
"547021! Do we have a winner with the winning numbers?" Nigel asked.
"That's me!" Eric said excitedly.
Eric pushed his way to the front and presented his ticket to Nigel. Checking the numbers, he nodded toward Tatania. She walked up to Eric and placed the camera strap around his neck.
"Congratulations, young man! You are the second winner of the Lottery Challenge!" Nigel exclaimed.
The crowd around us applauded, whereas Nina, Kat, and I cheered.
"Be back tomorrow to get a chance to be a winner!" Nigel said, stepping down from the podium.
When the crowd dispersed, Eric ran up to us with a wide grin on his face.
"Congrats, Eric!" I said.
"With this, I bet you'll be able to learn more about the different Pokémon you'll encounter!" Nina said.
"Yeah, good thinking!" Eric said.
"Why not try it out?" Kat suggested.
Eric nodded and took off the camera strap. Admiring the camera, Eric pressed a button, and a stand appeared underneath it.
"Well, now you don't have to hold it up." I chuckled.
Eric nodded as he set a timer. He rushed over to us and crouched in front of us.
Let's make this more memorable...
Grinning, I placed my head on top of Eric's. The other two caught on and did the same. Kat put her head on mine, and Nina placed her head on top of Kat's. Libby struck a pose on my shoulder with a wide grin on her face. Angel sat in front of us and created a heart shape over us with her ribbons. That's when the flash went off, and took the picture.
I can't wait to see what it looks like since this camera's supposed to have these amazing photo features.
We all got off one another and walked over to the camera to see it printing out the picture. Eric took the photo and shared it.
"That looks so good!" I said excitedly.
"Yeah! Wish we could each get one." Kat said.
Eric hummed and looked at the camera before grinning.
"Maybe we can," Eric said, "Apparently, it looks like whatever picture you take, it gets saved, and you can print it out whenever you want!"
Eric tapped on the screen, and as Eric predicted, three more photos came out of the camera. Eric smiled as he passed around the pictures.
"Now, we can always look back on this day." I said.
My friends nodded with bright smiles.
"This group... forever." I said.
"Forever." Kat said.
"Always." Eric said.
"Forever... and always...?" Nina wondered.
The other two and I chuckled and nodded.
So far, the prizes have been a Pokédex and a camera. I wonder what tomorrow's prize is going to be...?
