A Foreign Friend

"Alright, Libby. Use Swift!" I cried.

Libby jumped up and whipped her tail, only to have stars come out of it. The attack made direct contact with the tree we were training with.

It's been a week since I left home, and Libby and I have been training ever since. If I'm going to catch Dragon-type Pokémon, Libby and I need to be strong enough to catch them, let alone battle them...

"Great job, Libby," I applauded, "Now, use Shadow Ball!"

Libby opened her mouth and hurled a shadowy blob at the tree.

"Great! Now, use Hidden Power!" I cried.

Libby uttered a violent cry and hurled multiple glowing orbs at the tree.

"Yes! Quick Attack, let's go!" I commanded.

Libby stepped back and then started sprinting towards the tree at amazing speed. Once she came in contact with it, the tree fell over. Libby stepped back and let out a happy cry.

"Way to go, Libby!" I said happily, "You're definitely getting stronger!"

Libby smiled and chirped out a cry, all while wagging her tail. I chuckled and sat down on the grass. I sighed and tilted my head back to look at the brilliant blue sky. Libby sprinted over and laid down on my lap. I smiled and ran my fingers through the brown fur.

The way I see it, Libby will be stronger than any Dragon-type by the time we meet one.

I breathed out a heavy sigh and laid back into the grass, the breeze making my hair, Libby's fur, and the grass around us dance and flutter.

This is so relaxing...

I looked down at Libby to see her sleeping on my chest. Her little face made me smile. Carefully picking Libby up, I sat and placed her on my lap.

"We should start heading to the next town," I said to myself, "There are some things I need to stock up on."

Grabbing my bag, I stood up with Libby in my arms. My movement awakened the small Pokémon, and she let out a small yawn.

"Hello, little one," I said, "Hang on, we're going for a ride."

Libby nodded and rested on my shoulder. I smiled and started walking away from our training spot. When we got to the nearest town, Kiloway Town, it was bustling with life. The buildings, white and blue, matched the ocean and foam. Water-type Pokémon from all over the world could be seen: Vaporeon, Poliwhirl, Totodile, and so many more.

The ocean breeze feels amazing! Ah, I love the sea...

Libby hopped off my shoulder with a happy cry and started interacting with the other Pokémon around her. I smiled as she bounced happily around a Vaporeon. The Vaporeon smiled and wagged its fish-like tail.

"Come on, Libby!" I called, "Don't want you getting lost!"

Libby chirped her cry and started walking beside me. Once we reached the Pokémon Center, Libby and I was welcomed by Nurse Joy and her Chansey.

"Welcome to the Pokémon Center!" Nurse Joy said happily.

"Hello! Do you think you can do a check-up on my Eevee?" I asked.

When I said that, Libby hopped on the counter in front of Nurse Joy.

"Of course! One moment, please." Nurse Joy said, picking up Libby.

I watched as Nurse Joy and Chansey disappeared into the back of the center.

Now, let's see what I can buy from the Poké Mart.

Walking to the side of the building, I started purchasing the items I needed to replenish. When I walked back to the front desk, Nurse Joy and Chansey returned, with Chansey holding Libby.

"You're Eevee is doing just fine." Nurse Joy said.

Libby let out a happy cry and leaped on my shoulder. I laughed and turned back to Nurse Joy.

"Thank you!" I said with a bow.

When I turned around to leave, I accidentally bumped into a person, causing us to fall.

"Sorry about that!" I said.

"No, that was me!" the person said.

When I looked up, I saw that it was a girl with chestnut brown hair, brown eyes, and fair skin. She wore a frilly pink top and blue shorts with pink flats.

She's really cute-looking.

The two of us stood up and looked at each other.

"Sorry!" the two of us said in unison.

We stared at each other and then burst into laughter. Looking down next to her, I saw an adorable-looking Pokémon that resembled its trainer perfectly. I took out my Pokédex and scanned the Pokémon.

"Sylveon, the Intertwining Pokémon, and the evolution of Eevee. By releasing enmity-erasing waves from its ribbonlike feelers, Sylveon stops any conflict. It also wraps its ribbonlike feelers around its trainer's arm because this touch enables it to read its trainer's feelings."

Libby bounced up and down in front of the Sylveon with a happy look on her face. The Sylveon let out a cry and jumped up and down with her. We chuckled at our Pokémon and looked back at each other.

"I'm Eragona, and that's Libby," I said, holding out my hand, "Nice to meet you."

"Name's Kat, and that's Angel," she replied, grasping my hand, "Nice to meet you, too!"

We released our hands and smiled at one another.

"Native to Ezonia?" I asked.

"No, just a tourist. Angel and I are from the Kalos region," Kat answered, "It's a beautiful region with a wide variety of Pokémon."

The Kalos region, huh? I've heard of it; just never been there myself.

I looked down at the two Pokémon when Libby's happy cries caught my attention. Angel was tossing up Libby using her feelers. I smiled and turned back to Kat.

"Libby and I just came back from training. I wanna become a Dragon-type trainer like my grandmother, Elise." I said.

"Elise?" Kat questioned with wide eyes, "You're the granddaughter of the Ezonia region's Dragon-type Elite Four member?"

I nodded with a cheeky grin.

"Wow... That's amazing!" Kat said as she bounced excitedly, "Do you have any Dragon-type Pokémon yet?"

"No, unfortunately. I just started my journey a week ago, and Libby and I have been training so we can at least have the strength to even battle a Dragon-type Pokémon."

Kat nodded as she listened to me rant.

"I know!" Kat said suddenly with a snap, "Why don't you and Libby battle me and my Dragon-type Pokémon, Goodra!"

"Goodra?" I asked, "You have one?"

Kat nodded with a wide grin on her face. She then grabbed my wrist and started pulling me towards the exit.

"Come on! You won't become a Dragon-type trainer if you don't at least train with a Dragon-type Pokémon." Kat said.

She has a point...

Libby and Angel stopped playing and sprinted after us. Once on the Pokémon Center's battlefield, Kat released my wrist and walked to the other end of the field.

"Goodra, come on out!" Kat cried, throwing up a Pokéball.

Like clockwork, the Dragon Pokémon showed itself with a powerful, yet adorable, cry. I grinned and took out my Pokédex.

"Goodra, the Dragon Pokémon. This very friendly Dragon-type Pokémon will hug its beloved trainer, leaving that trainer covered in sticky slime. It attacks with retractable horns. It throws a punch that's the equivalent of the force of a hundred pro boxers."

"Goodra is one of the few Dragon-type Pokémon that are native to the Kalos region," Kat explained, "I've had this guy since he was a Goomy."

"That's amazing! My grandmother also has a Goodra, and he's strong." I said.

Libby sprinted up to Kat's Goorda and greeted it with a cry. Goodra smiled and bent down to pick her up. The Goodra then rubbed their cheeks together, making my Pokémon laugh. Angel bounced up and down around the tall Pokémon with a bright smile.

"Looks like they like each other." I said.

"I agree." Kat said.

A question soon popped into my head.

"Hey, Kat," I began, "Your Sylveon. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't she a Fairy-type? You're Goodra isn't afraid of her?" I asked.

"Angel is a Fairy-type, but Goodra isn't afraid of her," Kat answered, "Angel helped me raise him since he was a Goomy."

I nodded and continued to watch the three Pokémon.

"Okay, Libby, come back," I said, "We're going to train to get us ready for every Dragon-type we meet."

Libby nodded and hopped down from Goodra's shoulder. Libby shook off the slime, only to have it splash on me.

"Hey! Watch it!" I laughed.

Kat laughed and called her Pokémon over.

"You can have the first move, Era," Kat said, "No holding back!"

"Thanks. Wasn't planning on it," I said, "Alright! Libby, Quick Attack!"

Libby growled her cry and sprinted over to the Goodra.

"Stand your ground, Goodra!" Kat cried.

Goodra crossed its arms and took Libby's attack.

"Use Hidden Power!" I cried.

Eevee then conjured multiple glowing orbs and fired them at the Goodra.

Since Libby was already in front of Goodra, it was a critical hit!

The Goodra stumbled back before gaining its balance as if nothing had happened.

"Alright, use Flamethrower!" Kat cried.

At Kat's command, her Goodra hurled a ribbon of fire toward us.

"Dodge using Quick Attack!" I cried.

Eevee swiftly moved out of the attack's range and sped towards the Goodra.

"Shadow Ball, let's go!" I ordered.

At my command, Libby released a shadowy blob at Kat's Goodra.

"Destroy that Shadow Ball with Dragon Pulse!" Kat ordered.

Goodra opened its mouth, and a multi-colored shock wave came out, exploding the Shadow Ball and creating a cloud of dust.

Wow, her Goodra's really strong. Good, the stronger the opponent, the better chance Libby and I have of facing a wild Dragon-type Pokémon!

"Libby, Shadow Ball, once more!" I cried.

Libby growled and let loose another Shadow Ball.

"Destroy it with another Dragon Pulse, Goodra!" Kat cried.

Goodra then released another shock wave from its gaping mouth, causing another explosion and cloud of dust.

Perfect! Libby can use the dust as cover!

"Libby, jump up and use Swift!" I cried.

After a while, I saw Libby emerge from the cloud of dust and release multiple star-shaped rays downward.

Even though Libby can't see through the dust, one of the projectiles has to hit the Goodra.

I was soon proven right when I saw Kat's Goodra stumble backward from the dust that eventually cleared.

"Goodra, are you okay?" Kat asked.

Goodra shook off the pain and let out a mighty roar.

"Good! Flamethrower, let's go!" Kat cried.

Her Goodra tilted its head upwards and let out a ribbon of fire.

"Dodge it quick, Libby!" I cried.

Libby wasn't quick enough and got hit by the attack and crashed to the ground.

"Libby! Are you okay?" I asked.

Libby growled and tried to stand.

All that damage from a Flamethrower? This Kalos girl isn't messing around...

Libby stumbled as she tried to stand.

"Libby, don't strain yourself if you can't stand." I said.

Libby looked back and let out a ferocious cry. I saw the determination burning in her eyes. That fire that burned within her heart made me smile.

"Alright, we can do this, Libby!" I exclaimed.

Libby agreed with a loud cry.

"Goodra, Dragon Pulse!" Kat cried.

Another multi-colored shock wave soon came charging Libby's way.

"Libby, use Quick Attack!" I ordered.

Libby shook off the pain and sped past the attack.

"That old trick?" Kat asked, "Stop it using Focus Blast!" Kat cried.

Her Goodra then began charging up a large orb in its mouth.

Now!

"Now, Libby, use Shadow Ball in its mouth!" I cried.

Libby then hurled a large shadowy blob at the Goodra's gaping mouth. The Shadow Ball collided with the charging Focus Blast and exploded in the Goodra's mouth. The dust from the ground rose and blinded Kat and me. When the dust settled, Goodra was left unconscious.

"We did it, Libby! We did it!" I cheered.

Libby spun around and bounced up and down with joy. Kat chuckled and took out Goodra's Pokéball.

"You did great, Goodra. Take a nice, long rest." Kat said as Goodra returned to its ball.

I walked over to Kat and took out a Sitrus Berry.

"Here," I said, handing the berry over, "For Goodra."

Kat grinned and took the berry gladly.

"That was amazing, Era!" Kat said, "You and Libby were amazing!"

"Thanks, Kat," I said, "You and Goodra were really strong. I thought for sure we were going to lose."

That's when Libby chirped out her cry and hopped on my shoulder.

"But Libby's willingness to win and determination helped me realize that we can't back down when things look bleak." I chuckled.

Kat smiled and nodded in agreement. We walked back into the Pokémon Center and healed our exhausted Pokémon.

"So, where are you headed next?" I asked.

"I was just going to do some sightseeing, battle any trainer I run into, and maybe catch some new Pokémon," Kat said, "Nothing too big."

"I was going to travel around Ezonia to see if I can find any Dragon-type Pokémon to catch." I said.

Kat and I soon turned to look at each other with the same thought.

"Let's travel together!" we said in unison.

We smiled at one another and burst into laughter.

"I can be your personal Ezonia tour guide." I said.

"And I can help you prepare to become a Dragon-type trainer." Kat said.

I nodded with an eager smile on my face. Collecting our Pokémon, we walked out of the Pokémon Center and started making our way from Kiloway Town.

My dream is to become a strong Dragon-type trainer like my grandmother, maybe even better. With Kat as my friend and companion, my goal is becoming easier to grasp.
