A Cosmic Reencounter
"Welcome to Mt. Moon, everyone." Georgia said.
I gasped in awe as I craned my neck to look up at the spiraling mountain.
"Okay, this definitely tops Mount Haven back home." I stated.
"You can say that again." Nina said.
Libby dragged out a cry as she gazed up at the tall mountain. When she craned her neck all the way back, Libby slipped off my shoulder and fell to the ground with a soft thud. I couldn't help but laugh as I gazed down at my partner.
"Are you okay?" I chuckled.
Libby let out a slurred cry as she pointed up at the mountain. I rolled my eyes fondly before gathering my Eevee in my arms.
The height must've made her dizzy.
"Follow me, y'all," Georgia said, "And be on alert. This place is infested with Zubat."
Zubat aren't so bad. Annoying, yes, but not that strong that we can't beat them.
When we entered Mt. Moon, it was dimly lit and dreary. Georgia was right about the Zubat; a Zubat screech was heard everywhere we turned.
I wonder when we're gonna meet some Clefairy. If I remember what Nina told me, Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable are extremely rare. Don't want to get my hopes up too high, too fast.
As we ventured further into the mountain, it grew darker and darker.
"I can't see a thing anymore." Kat commented, placing a hand on Angel's head.
"Not to worry, y'all," Georgia said, pulling out a Pokéball, "Come on out, Ponyta!"
At her command, the shiny Fire Horse Pokémon appeared and illuminated the cave with its blue flames.
"Smart thinking, Georgia." Eric commented.
"Thanks," Georgia said, tipping her hat, "Come on."
The others and I followed the cowgirl as she led us through the mountain. However, with every turn we took, it felt as if we were going in circles.
"Uh, Georgia," Nina began, "Are you sure you know where we're going? I feel like we passed this rock structure over three times now."
"'Course, I know," Georgia said, "We just made a wrong turn back there. It's this way; I'm sure of it this time."
With a heavy sigh, the others and I reluctantly followed the cowgirl down a path we hadn't ventured before. The Zubat screeches echoed throughout the mountain's inner walls, creating an ominous feel to the mountain itself.
At first, I thought we would've seen some Clefairy and Clefable, but so far, I'm seeing nothing but Zubat and rock structures that resemble misshapen Pokémon.
Then, Georgia stopped when we approached a fork in the path.
"I don't remember seein' this fork before." she said aloud.
"So, we're lost?" I asked.
Georgia sighed and nodded.
"Sorry 'bout that, y'all." Georgia said.
"It's fine," Eric said, "I'm surprised they don't have signs anywhere directing people where to go."
"I was thinking the same thing." Kat said.
"So, which way should we go?" Nina asked, "Left or right?"
I hummed in thought as I glanced down both paths. Then, a loud groan echoed from the left tunnel, causing the small space to quake.
"What in the world was that?" Nina asked.
"It sounded like some kind of Pokémon, but what Pokémon is big enough to make a cry like that?" Kat questioned.
"Now that you mention it, Kat, I do remember hearing rumors of Onix inhabitin' Mt. Moon," Georgia commented, "Maybe it was an Onix."
"If it is an Onix, it sounds like it's in trouble," I said, "Come on, guys!"
The others nodded before we raced down the path where we heard the reverberating cry. When we reached the end of the tunnel, a gasp escaped my lips. We were met with a large open space with Onix slithering about. However, the Rock Snake Pokémon weren't the only ones there.
Team Xenon?! What are they doing here?
I glanced around to see some Team Xenon grunts holding net launchers as they aimed at the Onix. When a net hit its mark on one of the Onix, the net caused the Rock Snake Pokémon to coil itself into a tight ball.
That doesn't look comfortable at all.
"Alright, Haunter, use Psychic to load this on the truck." said a female grunt.
The Gas Pokémon let out a cackle-like cry as its eyes glinted blue, lifting the Rock Snake Pokémon in the air and moving it toward a nearby truck. The others and I remained hidden behind the tunnel's wall, glaring daggers at Team Xenon.
"We've gotta help those Onix, but how?" Georgia asked.
"I can help with that." said a stray voice.
Wait. That voice in my head. I recognize that voice!
I turned around and smiled when I saw familiar green hair.
"Caps!" I exclaimed quietly.
The others turned around and smiled. The young man smiled and waved.
"Long time no see, kids," he said as he leaned on the cavern walls, "How've you been?" he asked.
"We've been okay," Eric said, "However, considering our circumstances now, things aren't going so well."
Caps nodded in understanding.
"Who is this?" Georgia asked.
"Oh, right, you two never met before," Nina said, "Georgia, this is Caps. Caps, this is Georgia."
"The Cosmic Champion, at your service." Caps said with an elegant bow.
Georgia stared at him with equal amounts of annoyance and disgust.
"You don't look like a champion to me." Georgia commented.
"That's what they all say until I beat them to the ground." Caps said, flipping his green bangs.
Nice to know he hasn't changed.
Then, I heard a faint cry. When I looked at Caps, I saw a small pink face emerge from his shoulder.
Wait. That looks like Cleffa but slightly bigger. Could that be a...
I pulled out my Pokédex and scanned the little pink Pokémon.
"Clefairy, the Fairy Pokémon, and the evolved form of Cleffa. It is said that happiness will come to those who see a gathering of Clefairy dancing under a full moon. However, this cute Pokémon is rarely found."
"Your Cleffa evolved into a Clefairy?" Nina asked excitedly.
"She sure did," Caps said, "But we can catch up later. Right now, we have to save those Onix, and Clefairy and I know the best way to do that."
When Caps nodded to the Fairy Pokémon, the little Pokémon nodded before hopping off her trainer's shoulder and walking into the open space ahead. The little Pokémon hummed as it skipped into the middle of the dreary room. A female grunt turned to the Fairy Pokémon and tilted her head.
"Is that a Clefairy?" she asked aloud.
Her question caught the attention of the other grunts and Pokémon around, and they were all surprised.
"I knew you could find them here, but they're extremely rare," said a male grunt, "Should we capture it for the boss?"
"No need." said a new voice.
When I looked over, I saw Commander Amber strut into the middle of the room.
So she's leading this operation, huh? Once we get rid of her, the others will follow.
"I will say that it is an adorable little thing," the commander said, "Given its rarity, we can catch it and sell it to fund our next operation."
Fund their next operation?
Then, Clefairy started wagging its fingers in the air as it hopped from side to side, chanting a small cry.
"What is Clefairy doing?" Eric asked.
"You'll see." Caps said with a knowing grin.
Then, the chants grew louder, reverberating throughout the area and echoing down every hall. As the chants grew louder, I gasped in awe when more Clefairy came, wagging their fingers and chanting along with Caps' Clefairy.
"Whoa! There's so many!" I exclaimed silently.
"Nina, call out your Clefable," Caps said, "It'll know what to do."
Nina nodded before pulling out her Pokéball and releasing her Clefable. Almost on instinct, the Fairy Pokémon started wagging its fingers and joined the Clefairy in their chanting.
"Where did all of you come from?" Amber asked, "No matter. Quickly, rally these Pokémon, and prepare a call with our benefactor."
When the grunts aimed their net launchers at the Fairy Pokémon, Caps held out his hand and encased them in a purple aura, only to have them suspended in the air.
"What the?" a male grunt asked, jumping to grab the net launcher.
"What is the meaning of this?" asked a female grunt.
Caps grinned before walking out into the middle of the room.
"Leave this to me, kids," Caps said telepathically, "I'll let you know when you can come to help."
The others and I nodded and watched as the attention shifted from the Fairy-type Pokémon to him.
"I-It's you!" said a male grunt, backing away, "You're the freak with psychic powers!"
"I prefer Cosmic Champion, but whatever helps you remember someone like me," Caps said with a grin as he turned to Commander Amber, "You must be one of the commanders I've heard so much about. It's truly an honor to make your acquaintance, but I do believe you are unwelcome here."
Commander Amber scoffed as she pulled out a Pokéball.
"Big talk from someone who looks like they came off the Circus Express," the commander said, "Why don't you mind your own business, and no one gets hurt?"
When the commander said that, the grunts' Pokémon growled at Caps. The Clefairy and Nina's Clefable stopped chanting and glanced at the surrounding Pokémon. Caps only grinned. When he balled his hand into a fist, the net launchers crumbled like paper and dropped to the ground.
"I agree." Caps said, his silver eyes glinting purple.
The self-proclaimed Champion pulled out a Pokéball and tossed it.
"Show yourself, my magnificent Magnezone!" he cried.
At his command, the Magnet Area Pokémon appeared with a warble-like cry.
"Ninetales, teach him a lesson he won't forget!" Commander Amber said, throwing her Pokéball.
At her command, the Fox Pokémon appeared. I gripped the cave's wall as the opposing Pokémon surrounded Caps and the Fairy-type Pokémon. Caps glanced at us and nodded.
"Go while I have them occupied." he said telepathically.
The others and I nodded before creeping over to the trapped Onix.
"Shadow Ball!" the commander cried.
The opposing Pokémon, including her own, gaped their mouths and fired shadowy blobs at Caps and the Fairy Pokémon.
"Protect." Caps said casually.
The Magnezone warbled and put up a barrier, shielding its trainer and the other Pokémon. When the others and I arrived at the captive Onix, I pulled a Pokéball and aimed it at the ground.
"Ajax, get out here and use Leaf Blade." I said quietly.
Like clockwork, the Forest Pokémon appeared with a soft cry. The leaves on his wrists started to glow before they morphed into glowing blades. My Sceptile raised his claws before slicing the nets around the Onix.
"Hey, where did those brats come from?" asked a male grunt.
I looked over to see some of the grunts and their Pokémon glaring at us and Commander Amber.
Drat! So much for being stealthy.
"So, we meet again," Amber said with a sinister look, "Ninetales, use Flamethrower!"
The Fox Pokémon growled before releasing a ribbon of fire at us.
"Ajax, Dragon Pulse!" I cried.
Ajax growled before releasing a multicolored shock wave at the incoming attack. When the attacks collided, it caused a small explosion.
"Onix, get out of here!" Kat suddenly exclaimed, "You're free!"
The Rock Snake Pokémon groaned before disappearing into the nearby tunnels, using the smoke as cover. When the smoke cleared, the once-captured Onix were gone.
Now we've gotta deal with these freaks in blue.
My friends tossed their Pokéballs and released their Pokémon, ready to battle. Commander Amber growled and clenched her fists.
"You annoying little brats!" she shouted, "Shadow Ball!"
At once, her Ninetales and the grunts' Pokémon fired shadowy blobs at us.
"Protect, Herdier!" Georgia said.
The Loyal Dog Pokémon barked before putting up a barrier around us, shielding us and our Pokémon from the incoming attacks. When Herdier brought down the Protect, Caps' eyes glinted purple.
"Metronome, Clefairy!" Caps said with a grin.
The little pink Pokémon smiled before wagging a glowing finger in the air and started chanting. Then, the other Clefairy joined in. When the barrier dropped, the Clefairy released different moves of every type on the opposing Pokémon, knocking them out.
What in the world? I could hardly name half of the moves I saw fly by.
When the dust settled, the grunts' Pokémon, including the commander's Ninetales, were unconscious.
What kind of move was that?
"That was Metronome, my dear friend," Caps said, glancing at me, "It's a move that can randomly choose any move in existence. I absolutely love it!"
The Clefairy and Nina's Clefable glared and growled at the grunts and Commander Amber. The commander glared at us and scowled.
"You little brats are going to regret crossing us." she said.
"Like we haven't heard that before." Kat said.
Our Pokémon stepped forward and growled at the defenseless evil team.
"I think it's in your best interest to leave, Team Xenon." Eric said.
"I can take care of that." Caps said, raising a hand at the evil team.
A purple aura encapsulated Team Xenon and Pokémon before they suddenly disappeared, as well as their truck.
"What happened to them?" Nina asked.
"I teleported them outside and away from Mt. Moon," Caps said, flipping his hair, "They shouldn't be coming back here anytime soon if they know what's good for them."
I often forget how powerful Caps' psychic powers are. I definitely don't want to be on his bad side.
His Clefairy turned to him and smiled with a happy cry. The self-proclaimed Champion smiled and lifted the small Pokémon in his arms.
"You did a wonderful job, darling," Caps said, glancing at the rest of us, "You all did."
The other Clefairy smiled and cheered happily, as well as our Pokémon. Then, one of the wild Clefairy waddled up to Caps and tugged on his pants.
"Hm? What is it, little one?" he asked.
Then, the wild Clefairy started chanting and wagging their fingers, skipping down a large tunnel. Caps' Clefairy hopped out of his arms and joined the line of Clefairy, chanting and wagging her finger in the air.
What is going on?
The others and I retracted our Pokémon and followed the Clefairy. The tunnel was dark, and there was no light; the only sound was the Clefairy chanting and drops of water hitting stone.
Where are they leading us?
Then, I saw a glimmer of silver light at the end of the tunnel. When we were out of the tunnel, I gasped when I saw a horde of Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable dancing around a stone pedestal. I looked up and saw that it was night, and the moon was high and full.
Whoa. I've never felt so close to the moon before.
One of the Clefable turned to us and let out an alarming cry. The other wild Fairy-type Pokémon stopped dancing and turned to us with fearful looks.
"Um, hi there." Nina said with a wave.
The wild Fairy-type Pokémon frowned before backing away.
Are they afraid of us?
The Clefairy that brought us here smiled and let out happy cries as they pointed to us. Then, Nina's Clefable hopped out of its Pokéball and let out a friendly cry. Then, the wild Fairy-type Pokémon smiled and cried happily before continuing their song and dance.
Talk about a change-up.
Caps' Clefairy and Nina's Clefable smiled as they joined the wild Pokémon.
"Aw, they look so cute!" Nina exclaimed.
"I'll say," Georgia said, "I guess these lil' guys only show up on nights when the moon is full."
"You're exactly right, cowgirl." Caps said.
I turned to Caps and smiled.
"So, Caps, what brings you to Kanto?" I asked.
"I was just about to ask you, kids, the same thing," Caps chuckled, "I'm here for this."
He gestured to the little show the Fairy-type Pokémon were putting on.
"I did my research on Clefairy and learned that this happens every night on a full moon," Caps explained, "I wanted my little one to be a part of that experience at least once."
"That's so sweet, Caps," Kat said, "We're just visiting to see what this region has to offer."
Caps nodded before he tilted his head.
"Wait a second, where are Rina and Elsu?" Caps asked.
"Oh, they stayed behind in Johto," Eric explained, "Yelena is Rina's mentor now, and Rina stayed behind to work with her to better her craft. Elsu's there to keep her company."
Caps chuckled with a grin.
"Guess that little charm I gave her did work," Caps said, "She's gonna do great, big things; I just know it."
"So do we." Nina said with a smile.
The others and I nodded before turning back to the dancing Fairy-type Pokémon. Then, the moon started glowing brightly, bathing the area in a silver light. The Clefairy happily cried before floating in the air with silver sparkles trailing them.
Whoa! That is so cool!
Libby smiled before playfully swatting at a floating Clefairy, causing it to spin and let out a laugh-like cry.
"You're flying, darling!" Caps said, reaching out to his Clefairy.
The little Pokémon let out a cry and floated over to her trainer. The self-proclaimed Champion smiled and rested his hand on his Pokémon's head. Then, a wild Clefable walked up to us and let out a cry before presenting a stone that was as dark as the night sky.
Is that a...?
"That's a Moon Stone," Nina exclaimed, "If Clefairy touches it, Caps, she'll evolve into a Clefable."
"Really?" Caps asked, genuinely shocked.
His Clefairy looked at the Moon Stone with a perplexed look.
"You'll evolve if you touch it, darling," Caps said, "That is if you want to. Whatever you choose, I'll support you either way."
The little Fairy-type Pokémon looked between Caps and the Moon Stone multiple times. Then, it let out a cry and embraced its trainer happily.
"It looks like she doesn't want to evolve," Georgia said with a smile, "Guess she wants to stay petite."
Caps chuckled and embraced his Pokémon.
"Oh, darling, you are too much!" Caps laughed.
Clefairy smiled and twirled in the air happily. The Clefable let out a cry and placed the stone in Caps' hands.
"Now you have the stone whenever Clefairy is ready to evolve." I said.
Caps grinned and placed the Moon Stone in his pocket.
"Thank you, Clefable." Caps said.
The Clefable smiled before returning to the other Fairy-type Pokémon; Caps' Clefairy happily followed.
"So, where are you kids headed after this?" Caps suddenly asked.
"Well, we were headin' to Pewter City but got us lost in this labyrinth of a mountain." Georgia confessed.
"Well, I'd happily escort you, kids, to Pewter City."
"Really?" Eric questioned, "Thanks, Caps."
The self-proclaimed Champion nodded before glancing over at me with a smile.
"And when we get there, I'd love to have that battle I promised you, Eragona." Caps said.
"I'll be looking forward to it!" I said excitedly.
Libby smiled and let out a bold cry. I patted my partner's head before looking back at the wild Fairy-type Pokémon.
A battle with the Cosmic Champion, huh? Now that's gonna be an out-of-this-world battle, and I can't wait!
