The Winchesters

I want to point something out, the idea is that these journal entries are apart of the future but because Merlin is friends with The Doctor and a few other people, connections and what not, Merlin has already lived this future, that is why they are memories for him. It's apart of his future, and he's already lived it (which will help everyone understand the scars) so yes, I hope this clears everything up a bit! Enjoy!

The book was passed along and it soon came to Elyan's hand, who looked around and closed it, but not before bookmarking it. He closed it and motioned to Merlin, then motioned to the sunrise,

"Should we grab Merlin and get moving? And considering Merlin's injury, we'll only be able to do far." All the men nodded weakly before standing and stretching, Gwaine and Lancelot quickly making their way to the still unconscious Merlin. They lifted him up, earning a weak groan which in itself was a feat as earlier, Merlin showed no signs of consciousness but now, he was showing weak signs of consciousness.

Merlin sighed as he was lifted, Gwaine and Lancelot silently agreeing to be the ones to carry Merlin, they carefully climbed onto the horses (yes, they still have their horses, horses were tethered up while they (the Knights and Arthur) were going through the memories) and began on their slow ride, which only lasted a few hours before Merlin began to gasp and groan in unconscious pain, the constant gosling and movement of the ride aggravating and paining his injury more. Arthur slowed his horse to ride beside Gwaine, whom still had Merlin with him before straightening and saying, rather than commanding.

"Alright. We're a little over a days ride to Camelot, we need to let Merlin rest." Everyone nodded and rode a short way to an opening in the forest, a rather large opening filled with soft grass and the occasional patch of flowers of different color and species, the area completely surrounded by trees, invisible to the naked eye outside.

They lowered Merlin onto a flush of soft grass and flowers, making him look much more delicate than he actually was. The Knights carefully set up camp all the while keeping a solid eye on the still unconscious servant.

Elyan still had the journal, which he opened carefully once the camp was set up and a light fire was burning weakly.

Another symbol sat on the page, the words,
"Sam and Dean Winchester-Vampire Nest #26" which earned several furrowed brows and confused looks on its own. Elyan nodded swiftly before he straightened and pressed his hand to the page, earning a fading dull black, the fading black that blinded at the edges of your vision as you accept unconsciousness.

Everyone watches silently as a creature, that was the only thing to describe this monster, hundreds of sharpened and jagged teeth filling the creatures monster, the creatures hands wrapped around a mans neck, snarling and snapping while said man stood a little taller than 6 feet tall with short lightly colored brown hair, different shades of brown covered his head and slight freckles that were still visible stood on his cheeks and face, he wore an outfit of darkly colored clothes, he stood in a death lock, the hands wrapped firmly about his throat. Quite suddenly and quite surprisingly, the creatures snarling and snapping secede and stopped, the head of the creature suddenly fell away, beheaded.

Behind the fallen creature, stood Merlin like no one had ever seen before. Dark clothes, his hair matted and tangled in all manners, his face spotted and dusted with dirt and mud, dried blood thrown into the mix. A large smear of browning blood decorated the boys- no. The only way to describe him, after seeing him like this, the only way to describe him was as a man. The mans cheek was smeared with blood, as if in an attempt to rid it entirely.

Merlin straightened silently, everyone noticed the large blade in his hand, which was now coated solidly in blood. The darker haired male looked at the lighter haired man and smirked weakly, making him look almost feral with the blood currently smearing his face. The lighter haired man nodded weakly in thanks, earning on in return from Merlin. A startled yell from a building behind everyone almost immediately drew the two men's attention.

Their expressions went grim and they sprinted to the building, where they went on a spree like attitude, stabbing and beheading the inhuman creatures as they went.

A sudden bash to Merlins skull wasn't enough to knock him to the ground surprisingly, but he almost instinctively swing around and dug the long blade into the creatures throat, cutting the throat wide open, causing massive blood flow. The knock to Merlins skull caused a slice on Merlins scalp to open up, blood dancing down the left side of Merlins face, slowly coating and smearing. The man whom Merlin had just saved moments before looked back to the darker haired male and shouted, in an accent that was unfamiliar to the men,

"Merlin?! You ok?!" Merlin nodded and got to his feet again, breaking into a soft sprint, ending up back in stride with the man. Merlin smirked harshly,

"Dean, I'm fine. We gotta find Sam and get out of here. Now. You get Sam, I'll cover your dumb ass." The man-Dean, smirked before nodding and running ahead while Merlin turned his attention to three of the creatures that were quickly advancing on the two.

A fading blur passed over everyone's vision and and the men were in a small room with three incredibly padded and covered beds which sat against the wall solidly, Merlin laying one of the beds, sound asleep breathing softly through his mouth.

He was no longer covered with blood and dirt, the cut which wasn't visible before on his cheek was stitched up, his hair was back to its original fluffiness, sticking up in all directions and was still slightly damp. He wore dark faded trousers, a short sleeved shirt, faded blue shirt and no shoes, just socks. He was obviously tired, the bags under his eyes, which were only slightly visible before are now fading and the creases in his face were now smoothed over, making his entire being younger and calmer.

The man from before, Dean, now no longer covered in blood and dirt but clean ask wearing lightly colored trousers and a darkly colored shirt, where he sat next to a tired looking male, taller even when sitting with longer brown hair and broad shoulders, the two men still awake obviously brothers. Dean looked to the other man, whom sat across from him, and then nodded to the unconscious Merlin before he smiled weakly and said, his voice slightly grainy with sleepiness.

"Hey Sammy.. It's not just me but did... Did Merlin let off more stress than usual on today's hunt?" The other man, Sammy, looked to Merlin before nodding weakly,

"Yeah.. it's weird, isn't it? He was on his game, hell yeah but.. it was almost like he was too far into his game.. Like he was solely focussed on exterminating that nest. Wait, what's today?" Dean shrugged before answering,

"September 23, why?" Sam sighed and said, his eyes immediately falling to Merlins calm face,

"Damn. Today's the anniversary of when a bunch of his friends from the past died, isn't it?" Dean nodded weakly,

"It is, isn't it.. that explains why he was so tense today. But that's it.. it's Merlin. He suffers in silence a majority of the time, so many of his friends and family from the lads have died or something has happened to them, but he doesn't show any emotion when it comes to it. Suffers in silence, would rather hold his tongue than let people show that he's hurting." Sam nodded weakly,

"There's a few quotes that describe Merlin perfectly.

"The loneliest people are the kindest,
The saddest people are the brightest,
The most damaged people are the wisest.
All because they don't wish to see anyone else suffer the way they have."

Dean nodded weakly as Sam continued reciting quotes to describe Merlin, as Arthur and The Knights listened to him say these things, their attention drifted to the sleeping Merlin, the quotes digging into their hearts and knocking the breath from their lungs.

"The brightest smiles can hide the deepest secrets,
The prettiest eyes have shed the most tears,
The kindest hearts have felt the most pain."

The men turned their attention to the two men who sat still awake when a shift of material drew their attention. Merlin had rolled over and was now facing them, he mumbled weakly, his eyes opening enough to show his weak consciousness. The darker haired of the three mumbled weakly, everyone straining to hear him as he whispered,

"If everybody loved.. and no one lied.. If everyone shared and swallowed their pride.. then.. then we'd see the day where no one died." With that weak, yet shocking utterance, Merlin allowed sleep to swallow him again and he relaxed fully against the bed once more.

A warm splash of familiar unconsciousness fell over the men, a sudden dazing punch in the gut startled everyone as they took in the scene before them.

It was obvious that the scene before them was not in the same time frame, a month apart at the least. Merlin was laying on a bed wearing a thin shirt and trousers with mud trailing from the knees to the dirtied boots he wore on his feet. But the dirt and mud isn't what caught everyone's attention, it was the large gash on Merlins abdomen, blood costing everything. As if a large bladed knife had been shoved into his abdomen and twisted, then ripped out violently. The men from earlier, plus a few others were leaning over Merlin while trying to fix him up. Merlin was obviously unconscious, mindlessly lolling his head from side to side, the occasional grunt or groan of pain.

"MERLIN! COME ON YA IDJIT, STAY WITH ME! YA AINT ALLOWED TO DIE JUST YET!" An unrecognized voice practically screamed.

"MERLIN! DAMMIT MERLIN, STAY AWAKE! STAY WITH US!"
Dean.

"Merlin!! Come on buddy, you can do it. Stay awake, focus on my voice! Please Merlin, you can't die on us! Please! MERLIN!"
Sam.

Merlin opened his eyes weakly, bandages covering a majority of his torso and body, blood everywhere. Dean, Sam, an older man was a bearded face that screamed 'years of experience' and 'father figure' violently sat to the side, glasses with auburn fluid in them, almost immediately recognized as alcohol, all three of these men sat off to the side, staring into space and nothingness. Merlin shifted slightly, earning an incredibly pained groan, which earned everyone's attention.
The men shot upwards from their seats,
"Merlin!"
"Merls!"
"Ya idjit boy!" Merlin smiled weakly before allowing his head to be moved towards his friends, the darker haired of the men spoke, his voice unusually and unexpectedly deep and grainy,

"Huh.. Did know you guys gave two shits about me." That sentence in itself earned a rightful thwack across the back of his lifted head from the older bearded man, earned a yelp of pain from Merlin and a "Dammit Bobby, that hurt!".

Another faze and in this sequence, Merlin is completely and totally healed.

A man in odd clothing, a tan overcoat and black trousers, eyes as blue as Merlins and ebony hair, possibly as dark as Merlins which stood on every direction possible stood next to Merlin, whom wore dark trousers and boots, a lightly colored tight shirt. The men, Sam and Dean stood next to the darker haired men and they all wore smiles, bottles in everyone's hands. Smiles all around, laughs and jokes spoke around, happiness.

The pure image of a happy memory.

But, as the men slowly found out as they continued through Merlins memories they realized, if any of them thought this would end with smiles and happiness, if they thought that this would end as it began, with everyone alive and happy, then they hadn't been paying attention.

As the saying goes,
"If you think this is going to have a happy ending, you haven't paying much attention."
