Chapter 14

"Oh, you're here--is everything alright?" Hyunjin immediately placed his phone down upon seeing Yiyeon by the doorway. "Yiyeon-ah?"

She slowly nodded, "I don't know why... but I feel like I have broken up with him again..."

"What?" He raised a brow as he helped her sit down. "Can you tell me what happened?"

She sighed, "Jeno and Doyoung-oppa drove me home," she looked down. "And he... he said good night, but I know that he means more than that." She hugged the pillow on the couch. "Earlier... I took photos with Jaemin and Yangyang—" her eyes widened.

She quickly stood up and picked her phone and wallet up, much to her cousin's confusion. She didn't even change her clothes to more comfortable ones.

"Where are you going? It's 9 in the evening," Hyunjin said, blocking the door.

Yiyeon looked at him, pleading, "Hyunjin, I'm supposed to meet with Yangyang after school... but fuck!" She cursed as she puts her shoes on. "How the fuck did I forget?!" She yelled as she pulled her hair out of frustration.

Hyunjin was still blocking the door, much to her annoyance.

"Hyunjin, please... this is my last hope," she sighed. "I don't wanna lose someone again..."

"W-What?"

"Just let me go... once... this time, please?" She asked as she held the knob, then left.

She ran towards the nearest bus stop hoping that maybe, just maybe, Yangyang is still there.

"Jeno-yah, it's time to eat downstairs," Taeyong said as he peeked inside Jeno's room.

He saw the younger scanning something on his study table. Jeno turned around to look at his brother and nodded, "I'll be eating later, hyung! Don't worry."

"Okay then! Don't skip dinner," his brother reminded him before he closed the door.

Jeno sighed as he looked outside. He saw tiny droplets of moisture on the window. He looked away as he realized that it was about to rain. He let out another sigh as the song he was listening to just ended.

Hey mom, I know we're gettin' old
And the lines on our hands have changed
But you still look at me the same
Hey mom, guess what? You're really tough
And I know you did all you could
Just to make sure my life was good

Jeno looked at the output that he made with Yiyeon. Even if it hurts, he remembers what he promised her before they could even begin with their project.

"Don't worry. I won't bother you ever again after this task..."

"So this is how we must really end, huh?" He chuckled bitterly.

Sorry for the fights and the tone of my voice
Sorry for the nights when I made the wrong choice
Life is flyin' by, and it's hittin' me now
I hope it's not, but

"Wait up!" Jeno yelled as he chased Yiyeon, who was running away from him. "I said, wait up! You might trip over onto something!"

The girl slowed down and let Jeno catch up. She playfully hit his shoulder and chuckled, "What's gotten into you? Are you tired?" She asked.

He shook his head and held her hand, "You run away from me with a headstart," he frowned as they continued walking.

The sand on the beach was scorching hot, but neither of them complained.

"Aren't your feet hurt? The sand is hot, and you're barefoot," Jeno asked.

Yiyeon shook her head, "No. This is how I play beach volleyball with my teammates, silly. I'm used to it." She chuckled and looked at him. "Do you want to go under the shade already?" She asked and looked at him while using her other hand to shade her vision.

Jeno shook his hand, "Nah, I want to spend more time with you."

The girl just smiled as they continued walking, hand in hand.

He looked at her, trying to hide her smile, "You've been smiling quite a lot lately..."

She looked at him and nodded, "Yeah, I wonder why..."

If this is the last time, please come close
I love you with all my heart, you know
I don't wanna cry, I'm bad at goodbye
If this is the last time
Then let's do the things we always do
Like go to the mall and buy some shoes
I don't wanna cry, I'm bad at goodbye
If this is the last time

His eyes landed on the pictures that were on his desk. There were photos of them at school. He smiled upon seeing the first-ever selfie they took as a couple.

He took a deep breath before lifting one of the picture frames.

"What happened to us..."

Hey dad, what's up? Miss you so much
Yeah, the shade of your hair has changed
But I look up to you the sameTaught me how to fish, taught me how to ride a bike
Taught me how to love, how to treat a woman right
Life is flyin' by and it's hittin' me now
I hope it's not, but

"Where did everything go wrong?" He sighed.

He laid on his bed and covered his face using the pillow.

He felt unspeakably lonely all of a sudden.

"You're just hungry, Jeno...."

If this is the last time, please come close
I love you with all my heart, you know
I don't wanna cry, I'm bad at goodbye
If this is the last time
Then let's do the things we always do
Like go for a drive or watch the news
I don't wanna cry, I'm bad at goodbye
If this is the last time

"If that was the last time... I should have said something else... something I've been longing to tell you, Yiyeon-ah," he whispered.

He sat back up and shook his head, "I look like an idiot while talking to myself."

Hey you, sit back
Don't go, so fast

He stood up and wore his hoodie.

His eyes traveled outside, to where the street lights glow, to where the raindrops fall and flow.

If this is the last time, please come close
I love you with all my heart, you know
I don't wanna cry, I'm bad at goodbye
If this is the last time
So let's do the things we always do
Or maybe we try something brand new
I don't wanna cry, I'm bad at goodbye
If this is the last time

Sighing, he picked his phone up, stopped the music, and went to the dining area, to where his brothers are eating peacefully.

***

Yiyeon cursed continuously when the rain started to fall. She's already at the place where they agreed to meet.

But nobody was there, probably because it began raining.

The children who were riding their bikes earlier went to shade themselves from the rain.

She fished her phone out of her pocket and dialed a familiar number. Yangyang's number. It only kept on ringing, but nobody picked up.

"Yangyang, please pick up..." she muttered under her breath as the rain started to fall heavier.

It had been a couple of minutes since she arrived, yet there were no signs of Yangyang at all. But she still was holding onto her last string of hope.

He'll be here. I just know it.

She sat on a bench and sighed.

The rain was falling lightly, unlike earlier.

"I'll be right here waiting for you, Yangyang..." she muttered to herself as she sighed, watching the remaining raindrops fall from the sky.

***

An hour passed and Yangyang didn't arrive.

She sighed and looked at the time on her phone. It was almost 10 pm. Hyunjin would probably call her an idiot once she comes home. Her phone was almost out of battery, too.

The rain had completely stopped, and it was getting chilly.

She trudged her way onto the nearest bus stop, finally surrendering.

"If Hyunjin calls me an idiot, I would gladly accept it," she sighed as she placed her phone in her pocket. "I guess I really am an idiot," she said as the bus that would take her to their place finally arrived.
