Step Three
Step Three: Talk everyday, become best friends.
Homecoming, I guess I did not pay much attention to it, as I was never invited by a guy and I usually stayed at home watching old movies and eating pizza.
This homecoming was different, though. I finally had a date that could accompany me through the many unsynchronized dances to the terrible choices of songs out of the Top 100.
Yes, it was Matthew Ackerman who asked me to homecoming, but no, it was not with balloons and roses.
We had been talking a lot through text messages, and maybe some other phone calls, and in one of those 3am conversations, he asked me.
It was not that big of a deal, but it was quite shocking.
It was not romantic either, but I don't know how I could describe my feelings.
Rather than that, and the fact that we talked almost every night and he practically knew a lot of deep things about me, and vice versa, nothing different happened in my life.
I had a Math quiz and I got an A, and I was really happy, yet they asked me to start tutoring this girl named Nicole Jackson, and it was a bit frustrating.
Not because of her, but because of her attitude towards being tutored by me. It seemed like if she was a baby and I had taken her favorite toy away from her, but other than that, the tutoring went pretty well.
"What do have planned for today, Ms. Perfect?" Nicole said to me, with a fake smile on her face. I rolled my eyes, "I told you already, stop calling me that. First, I am not a real teacher, and second, I am not perfect," I responded to her.
This time, she rolled her eyes at me.
"Mrs. Harrison told me we should review the quadratic equation, because most of the students did not use it correctly," I said, responding to her previous question.
She just nodded her head.
As we made a review on our topic, a shadow covered our books, so I looked up and saw the tall guy I now called my boy best friend.
"Hey," I said with a small smile. "Hey, I wanted to know if you were free tomorrow after school, because I need some tutoring," Matthew said.
"You need tutoring?" "Apparently, yes, but it's all right if you don't have the time," "No, don't worry, I don't have anything on my agenda," I said, then mentally face-palmed myself for the terrible joke.
"Perfect, tomorrow then," he said and walked away.
"You like him?" Nicole asked me, once he was out of sight. "No, I don't, we're best friends," I explained.
"Yeah, best friends," she said, looking a me with a mischievous grin on her face, that later on disappeared and we returned to the quadratic equation.
He wanted you.
