Step Six
Step Six: Start attaching another person to you.
The following days were a complete rollercoaster ride for me. I had to tutor Nicole Jackson—who was surprisingly nice to me during all her tutoring—do homework, listen to Eva talk about Samuel for hours, study, and figure out what was happening between Matthew and I.
Since the kiss, we had not been texting or calling that much, yet we had been having short conversations during our classes together.
Leaving that, something really surprised me while I was with Nicole at the library, studying Imaginary Numbers, besides the fact that she was really happy and kind towards me.
"Hey, Elodie," she said, I looked up from my book, "May I tell you and ask you something at the same time?"
I was confused to say the least.
"Yeah, sure, I guess," I said.
"I've been having visions of a messy-haired brunette guy, and I actually got to know a guy who kind of fit into what I had imagined," she said, a small smile on her lips, "We have been talking for a while, yet I don't know if he likes me. I mean, he usually asks me to hang out with him, but I also think he likes another girl."
She stopped talking for a while, trying to figure out how to say this big secret of hers.
"I think I don't like him, I have almost a feeling of love for him. Do you think he might like me? Even though everything I just told you sounded really crazy," she asked then waited for me to answer, her burning stare lingered on my face to find any hint of dishonesty.
"I think, that you should probably look for more clues, maybe look up those weird quizzes on internet—they're useful sometimes—or maybe you could ask him about the topic."
She looked at me, she was weirded out, and I couldn't blame her, I would've been too with the answer I gave her.
"Well, thank you, I guess," she said, smiling, then the bell rang.
"When's the next class?" She asked.
I grabbed my notebook, "Mrs. Harrison said you improved a lot and that she believes you are now capable of passing the class with good grades and without my help, so unless you want to study with me another time, call me," I said.
"All right, see you," she smiled and started walking away, then she turned around, "Oh, and thanks for the advice."
"Anytime," I said, smiling politely.
I started walking out of the library, but I remembered I had to put back a book I had grabbed the week before.
"Don't you have to be going to class?" I heard a familiar voice say, while the owner's hands were placed on top of my eyes.
I grabbed the hands, took them off of my eyes and turned around grinning like an idiot.
"Hi, Mr. Ackerman," I said, "Hello, Ms. Martínez," Matthew responded.
"We're going to miss Art class," I said as he leaned in.
"I'm already with a masterpiece," he said and pressed his lips against mine.
He got you.

I wish I had a guy like Matthew in my life, but then I remember this is The Way into Hurting Someone and this sh*t's just getting started.
