Step Four
Step Four: Let the person get attached, fade a bit away.
Tutoring Matthew turned out to be more than a one-day-after-school kind of thing.
He was at my house for the whole week. Even my parents let him come up to my bedroom, and let me tell you, no boy—other than my seven-year old brother—had come up to my room.
"I think we're done for today. Do you think you're ready for your quiz next Monday?" I asked Matthew, as I closed his book.
"Yeah, I mean, it's going to be hard because Mr. Phillips is my Biology teacher, but with your tutoring, I'll get at least a B," he said, smiling.
"Good, so what should we do now?" I asked as I looked at the time—5:00PM.
"Why don't we go get Ice Cream?" He suggested, "Where?" "I know this awesome place, want to see it?" I nodded and he stood up, grabbing his phone and wallet.
"Let's go then," he said, putting out his hand for me to grab.
I grabbed it and stood up. We walked down the stairs holding hands, but we pulled away in front of my mom—we did not want for her to get the wrong idea.
"Mom, may we go get Ice Cream?" I asked her, she just looked at me, nodded and returned to her Major Crimes episode.
We walked out the door, and all the way towards the awesome place Matthew talked about.
As we were about to order, I heard my phone beep, I took it out and saw a text message from Evangeline.
Yet the conversation was pretty short.
"What flavor do you want?" Matthew asked me. I looked at all the different flavors, "Dark Chocolate, please?"
"I want Rocky Road, please?" "Nice choice," I said, he chuckled, "Thanks."
We grabbed our Ice Cream cones and walked to a small bench and sat down.
"Oh, I forgot, Evangeline told me to invite you to this party she's having, because she doesn't have your phone number," I said, remembering her text.
"Wait, she doesn't? I thought you gave it to her," he said. "Nope, I don't have it either," I said.
"Oh, I believed you did. Anyway, give me your phone so I can put it in," he said and I gave him my phone, and he gave me his.
"Passcode?" We both asked at the same time.
"6235," I say.
"4331," he tells me.
As we finished with putting our numbers in our phones and eating our Ice Cream, we went to Eva's house—which was surprisingly not that far.
At the end of the party, I had to call my mom and tell her I'd be staying at Eva's house, because she probably needed help to clean all the mess in the morning.
Matthew left me in the middle of the party, since his friends were there, and well, I did not care that much.
He just faded away for a bit, but that's not a problem if you're not too attached to the person—at least I wasn't.
He liked you.
