Chapter 36: Regaining a loss

YNs' POV:

"Bansha!" You cry, fumbling for your staff. Your hand goes right through, of course, while Bansha just floats there, watching you with a cruel smile on her face. She laughs an ugly laugh and vanishes.

"Maybe she's.. Gone?" Jay asks hopefully. But as if in answer to his question, there's a sharp crack, and Jay's head twists violently to the side. He yelps in pain and touches his fingers to his jaw. When he pulls his hand away, you can clearly see the thin line of bright red that is slowly oozing down the side of his face.

"THAT'S IT!" Nya bellows. She quickly creates a sphere of water and directs it towards Jay. The water flies by his face and splashes onto the ship's deck. Nya watches the area closely with her keen eyes, checking to see if she has hit her mark.

"Too slow, Water Ninja." Bansha's voice rings out mockingly around you. Nya staggers forward, obviously having been shoved hard in her back. Then you hear a piercing, shrieking whistle, a whoosh, and a thunk.

"I think I heard a whoosh." You say. You look down at your feet and see an arrow, the tip embedded into the planks directly in front of you. Lloyd glances up, and you both seem to realize who the culprit is at the same time.

"Soul Archer!" You yell, pointing upwards to get the other's attention.

"Take him out, Morro!" Lloyd shouts.

"Gladly." Morro uses his wind to fly up to Soul Archer, who is using the higher elevation of the ship's cabin to his advantage, attempting to snipe at the ninja. He notches another arrow to his bow and takes aim at Kai, whose back is turned to the phantom archer. The red ninja of fire is trying to stave off a flurry of attacks from a pair of ghosts wielding kusarigamas. While one strikes high, the other aims low, their scythelike blades slicing through the air in arcs of ghostly steel.

Morro reaches Soul Archer and attempts to wrestle his weapon away from him. You want to help someone, somehow, but you feel completely useless without your powers, and you don't know what you could possibly do without them.

"Alright, Yn, I'll make this quick." Cole says, bounding up to you. "You ain't likely to come across a magical eclipse in your lifetime, so you're gonna have to accept the fact that you're probably stuck like this. You've accepted it?" Cole barely gives you a chance to nod your head before he continues, "-Okay. Then take that arrow." He points to the one at your feet.

You crouch down and study it. It seems to be half ghost and half tangible. So maybe.. You take a calming breath and then suddenly yank it out of the woodwork. I did it! "Now what?" You ask Cole.

"Now you try adding Deepstone."

"You've got to be kidding me!"

"A little bit is all you need, YN." He says patiently. "-Just try."

You close your eyes and focus, gently attempting to coax your power to obey you. You gradually feel a small tugging sensation deep inside of you, and you choose to concentrate on it. You build on its warmth and now focus it on the arrowhead. Then you open your eyes and are rewarded for your efforts by a speckling of Deepstone flecks all over it. It's not much, but it's enough.

"Thanks, Cole." You murmur, hefting the weapon. Then you utter an angry yell and charge straight for Bansha.
