Chapter 22: Written in the clouds, Part 1
Morros' POV:
Everything is white around me. I blink a couple of times, momentarily confused, but the whiteness remains. Then it hits me. Of course! I'm in the Cloud Kingdom! How quickly I forgot about this place...
There are fluffy- looking clouds everywhere, but I don't see YN. Then a small noise from above my head makes me glance up, and I gasp.
YN's hovering over me, but it's obvious that Bansha's gaining control of her. YNs' skin is now tinted a pale, ghostly green, she has the dark markings around her eyes that us ghosts have, and her gi has begun to look ripped and worn.
"No.."
"Oh yes, Morro. She's mine. Why don't you go back to the Departed Realm and save me the trouble of defeating you?"
"Make me."
"Very well." She sighs and conjures another large sphere of water. She hurls it at me, but I summon a strong gust of wind and direct it back towards her. She creates a shield of matter, and the water rolls harmlessly down its surface. Then she twitches and doubles over again.
"Hey, matter shields are my thing! Get your own!" YNs' indignant voice rings out over the vast expanse of clouds.
"You won't-!" Bansha screeches furiously. She tries to conjure more water, but YN makes her drop it.
"Oh no, you don't! Run, Morro! I can't hold her-"
I give YN an agonized look. "Run!" She yells at me. I obey and run towards the distant gates. Behind me, I can hear Bansha raging. Her temper isn't helped by the insults YN is mockingly aiming at her, but I know that it won't last long. YN can only buy me another couple of minutes, at the most, before Bansha takes control again.
I dash through the gates and am confronted by a vaguely familiar child.
"Oh no, not you again! Stay away from here!" He says it boldly, but I can see him trembling. Ah, now I remember! This is that timid little writer that tried to warn the Head Writer that the ninja were in trouble, back when I was possessing Lloyd.
"I'm not the bad guy anymore."
"I know that! But it was written that you'd bring trouble with you when you returned, so I'd prefer if you didn't step foot inside these gates, sir."
"Please".. I glance back over my shoulder anxiously. I see a dark cloud forming, and then hear Bansha give a victorious screech.
The boy gnaws his lip and looks worriedly at the looming cloud, and then at me. "Fine. But I have a better idea." He grabs my hand and yanks me through the gates and up the stairs beyond them.
He leads me to a large building. "Wait here. I won't be long." He runs inside before I can object, and returns no more than half a minute later, panting, loaded with an armful of scrolls, an inkpot, and a quill pen. He shoves everything into a satchel bag and swings it over his shoulder. "Follow me!" He tells me, racing to a floating skiff. "Get in, and I'll see what I can do."
"Thank you, young friend." I jump in alongside him. The boy waves his hand, and the little boat begins to speedily sail away, all on its own.
"Where are we going?" I ask him.
"Far enough away so that you won't destroy my city when you clash with the sorceress." He replies. "I brought both of your scrolls, so at least we have some hope of possibly defeating her."
"You say that like it's not a sure thing. But you can just write and help me win, can't you?"
"You defied what was written about you when you first escaped the Departed Realm, so why couldn't she?"
