Felicity from The Wattpad NewsTeam  was able to chat and sit down with da_homosapiensapien, the creator of Haemo: The Diary of a Serial Killer  this week. 

Felicity: Hehe, I know this might be getting old to a few people- but how did you find Wattpad?

da_homosapiensapien: I've been on Wattpad for about a year. I'd heard about it quite a few times on social media, however I wasn't really interested in joining (since even though I love reading books, I was still in the Harry Potter phase and read nothing but the Harry Potter books and the latest Percy Jackson novel). Then, one of my friends Chilleez forced me to join so that I could read a collab she was doing with one of our other mutual friends. Since then, I've loved every minute I've spent on Wattpad! 

Felicity: Wow- we have another recent year-old Wattpader. So how did the start of Haemo's Diary come to be? What did it look like in it's inception and where did you draw inspiration for Haemo?

da_homosapiensapien: My inspiration for HDSK never came in one big rush. It came in bits and pieces: from reading, fascination and a course of seemingly-insignificant events in a period of two months. I've always been a huge fan of mystery and thriller novels, which was where I was introduced to psychopathic serial killers. Their methodical killings that usually set them apart from other murderers really fascinate me. The way their minds work is so different from ours, and yet they are humans. Sometime last November, the idea of writing the diary of a hypothetical serial killer crossed my mind, and it stuck. I contemplated the idea in my head over a month or so, but I didn't get many ideas that I was happy with. In mid-December, a lecture about blood in Biology class gave me the idea to name my story 'Haemo: The Diary of a Serial Killer' and name the serial killer himself 'Haemo'. I had a title, but no plot. Early January, I decided to go for it, and I started writing my story, completely improvising on every aspect. Within three days, I had to scrap the project, for I was very unhappy with the way the plot was progressing. Ten days later, as I re-read my pathetic attempt, I realised I'd found the voice for my serial killer! I then realised that I could create a fully-developed character with the distinct voice he had! So I sat up one night and I write my first diary entry, having no clue where it would lead. I had nothing but two entries planned in the entire book, which was to be about 100 entries long! And on the next day, while chatting with a friend of mine, i noticed a particular statement he made. Intrigued, I thought about it, and I had a rough plot of HDSK in under five minutes!

Felicity: That's so fascinating to hear about how stories get their beginnings, and yours was really interesting! I love finding out the interworkings of a person's mind, and especially killers. Anyway, we're getting off topic a tad. Why do you think Haemo's Diary got so popular on Wattpad?

da_homospaiensapien: I wouldn't go as far as to say that HDSK is 'popular' by Wattpad standards, because I've seen quite a few books that have millions of reads. However, HDSK has 92K+ reads on it as I type this out, and it's really overwhelming and humbling to witness these many people actually reading and enjoying my work. I've put in quite a lot of effort into this book, but I believe that no amount of plotting, characterisation and editing is going to make a book 'popular' if the people do not support it.
I've received a wonderful response to the concept of Haemo and my portrayal of him. By that I conclude that as in the case of all other books, the reason for the 'popularity' of HDSK is the support and love my readers give it, and I cannot thank them enough for that and express my gratitude in words alone. If you're a reader of HDSK checking out this hilarious newspaper, please believe me when I say that I truly appreciate the support you've given me and that without you, this wouldn't have been possible.

Felicity: Awwww! I adore hearing about the writer's love for their fans. I swear that reading some of your guys' notifications gives my teeth cavities. (and I caught that compliment, by the way!) What's your most favorite thing to do other than writing in your spare time?

da_homosapiensapien: When I'm not writing, I do general, boring things like going to school, complaining about my teachers and how eager I am to get out of that institution (and I'm totally lying when I say that. I've been in that school for 12 years now, and that's a very long time). However, I also do super-interesting things like dreaming, eating, sleeping and being super bored.

Felicity: *laughs to coughing stage* 

Wow, your life is SO  interesting! My gosh- call TLC! I have a new reality T.V. show star in my midst! And just for giggles and crap, it'd be fun to know where you got your profile picture. 

da_homosapiensapien: I found my profile picture on this 'Keep Calm' post that said 'Keep Calm and Share This Post For No Reason.' I cropped the rest out of it so that cute Mr. Incy Wincy was the only thing left in the frame. Oh, and if you're curious, I did not share that post for no reason. I didn't share it at all.

Felicity: ... I am going to call your profile picture Mr. Incy Wincy now, and make no mistake- I will PM you weekly asking about his wellbeing. Lol, anyway, thanks for taking your time and being in this interview! It's been so much fun talking with you!

Sunday, June 12th, 2016 12:00pm: Sixteen year old Griffin Sanders was found dead in Backstreet Alley in Seburban Cefaria with Haemo's momento on the teen's left hand. The boy was identified by the I.D. in his pocket. Victim's body was untouched, save for the eyes- autopsy concluded that Sanders died by cyanide poisoning. Police are undergoing further investigation to capture Haemo. (shameless plug for da_homosapiensapien's Diary of a Serial Killer book)  

Tuesday, June 15th, 2016 11:59pm: Thin-Tin-Missy failed to update her book of reviews. An officer is being sent to her house to discuss the importance of keeping promises.

Wednesday, June 16th, 2016 6:33pm: Chief Dunwoody discovered an empty jelly filled chocolate donut box next to officer Percy's locker. They had a heated debate on whether or not the five second rule worked on desks. Percy has been let off with a warning, and has been told to stay away from Dunwoody's office.

Ooooo, well would you look at that? Now I get to my two cents in on a weekly basis! So anyway, I've actually been having difficulties trying to compose the Upcoming events, Police reports, Obituaries, and Classified Ads. Obituaries has been the worst. You might not think that there's a lot of work put into this newspaper BUT THERE IS. I guess I was kinda expecting to have it be a breeze, but now that I realize that it isn't, I'm kinda left wondering if I didn't get in over my head. The one thing that's been super encouraging though is seeing all the support for this paper. It's over 160 reads as it stands today, and we're coming to it's three week anniversery- and that's pretty mind blowing for someone that had to wait almost a month to hit the 100 view mark on my book of reviews. So thank you so much  for all your guys' love! I hate to sounds like I'm forcing this message or whatever, but it would really help if you were to private message me some ideas or something you want to put in the paper. I'm racking my brain for ideas to the point to where I'm drawing blanks. And that is not good. My creative engine is sputtering like Chugga-Boom from The Perils of Penelope Pitstop.  So please do not hesitate to send me stuff!
