Writers on Wattpad seem to struggle a lot with creating characters that are both flawed but also have talents. Some writers end up just creating these perfect, barbie-like characters who can do no wrong, while others create characters who have nothing that makes them stand out.

When creating a character, personality is everything.

Plan your character's personality before you even write your book, and there are some key things to remember.

• Everyone loves a humorous character, so find points in your story where your character can crack a joke. It will add another element to stories that are predominantly action-packed, and stories that tend to not be extremely humorous.

• Personality flaws can include things such as: being overly talkative, lying to people, being absent-minded, being violent etc.

• Have at least one thing that your character is passionate about.

• Be aware of your character's personality while you're writing, and remember to keep their personality constant throughout.

Balance in a character's personality is vital because it makes your character relatable and sound more human to readers, so have around an equal number of flaws and good qualities.

Now some writers on Wattpad seem to prioritise the appearance of their characters over a lot of things like the actual content of their book. I'm just going to say this now, you don't need to describe your character's appearance in detail unless it is vital to the plot. No matter how much you describe a character, the reader will still create a different image for that character than you.

Sure, tell your readers the hair colour of your character and their eye colour, and anything is is actually important. But don't write whole chapters about what you character looks like in detail because not many readers will care.
