Chapter One
"Are you ready yet!?!" My mom yelled from downstairs
"Almost!" I screamed and turned down my radio.
I wondered what the other, 'popular' girls were going to wear, probably, some short dress with six inch heels, and a crap ton of makeup.
They probably all got together to get ready, at Kate's house. She was the 'ring leader' of the whole circus, that most people call 'school'. I hate her with a passion. Unluckily that over flirty, skank, who torments everyone who isn't in her clique, (so the entire school other than her five girl friends and their boyfriends) hates me too.
I had a small group of friends, consisting of David and my mom. It's not as sad as it sounds, David is great!
"Don't make me come up there!" My mom threatened.
"Ok! I'm coming!" I left the comfort of my room, and walked down the stairs. "Smile!" My mom said, taking a hundred pictures, leaving me blind from the flash.
As attempted to walk down the stairs in the four inch heels, my mom cried "oh honey, you look so beautiful!"
"Thanks mom" I mumbled, still partially annoyed.
"Don't give me that tone Amy, you only have prom once!"
"Yes I know, but I didn't even want to go"
"Well too bad, your going"
"Fine, mom, I'll be home at eleven thirty" I said hugging her. I grabbed my car keys and went outside, closing the door behind me.
It was going to be a short drive, with absolutely no traffic, which was probably the only good thing about living in small town Weatherford, Alberta.
I hopped into my silver 2007 Chevrolet Malibu, and prayed it would start. It did. I glanced at the picture of my dad and I, on the sun visor.
The picture was of when my dad, mom, and I when I was six, we had gone swimming in the river. I remember the day well, we had swam the whole day, had a picnic, and watched a movie at home after.
That was the last day we had together.
My dad died in a car accident the next day on his way to work.

I drove on the main street, to get to the school, where the dance was taking place.
I glanced at the closed shops on my way, there were a few open, but no one was in them from what I could tell. I parked at a neighboring building across from the gym.
As I walked towards the gym I was starting to regret wearing high heels, I knew it was a bad idea but my mom insisted that we go all out.
I still felt guilty, we didn't have much money to be adding all of these extra expenses. My light blue, ankle high dress, flowed around me. I kept looking down so I wouldn't trip, causing my long, curled blonde hair to fall into my dull brown eyes.
I walked into the gym hall, and was instantly greeted by a sneering voice,
"Oh, look who it is, the Salvation Amy" said Kate. The handful of girls surrounding her laughed.
They all wore dresses, that if I wore, would be grounded for months. They looked ridiculous with all the makeup, I almost pitied their pores, suffocating in the powder.
Almost.
"If it isn't the barbies" I muttered under my breath. Referring to the nickname most of the school called the group. They were oblivious to the comment, still giggling about Kates 'joke'.
I pushed through them, into the gym, flipping the bird to Kate as I walked by.
She gasped and I smiled. There was going to be hell to pay for that move, but I'll worry about that later.
