The New King - Pt. 2
"My father left me when I was just a boy. I never saw his face again. My mother didn't handle his loss very well. She was pureblooded dwarf and proud. She instilled a sense of hate for your gender. Korbin was the one who freed me from her abuse. Korbin was amazing. He is always amazing." Quinn mumbled as he began to snore softly.
The old druid reached through the bars petting his head as he simply sighed. Such a young thing. So many horrible memories. So troubled. The king had been wise to bring the red head. This boy might have self-destructed on his own. She petted his head fondly thinking of her own son, squeaking when someone grabbed her wrist jerking her hand away from the sleeping young man.
"You do not get to touch him." Korbin hissed has he shoved her hand out of the cell.
"I needed to calm him down before he hurt himself. He isn't stable." She grumbled as Korbin crouched behind him, holding the sleeping boy through the bars.
"I know. He has never been stable. His thoughts are a bit skewed thanks to the years of abuse and absolutely no healthy social interactions." Korbin grumbled as he hugged him and the bars.
"Why did you bring me along?" Korbin asked as she rolled her eyes and settled back in.
"We brought you because the king asked us too. We brought you for him." She grunted as she played with the flowers on her dress.
"Thank you. I would have stopped at nothing to get him back." Korbin growled sincerely as he looked over Quinn. He wasn't as hurt as Korbin had been. Good. The old woman simply huffed like she didn't care.
"What should I call you?" Korbin asked softly as he settled in against the vines. Relaxing now that he knew Quinn was safe.
"Sherry. So, Korbin, I know the king is going to ask, but I can't wait for him. What exactly is your relationship? It is clear you are more than just Assassin partners." Sherry grumbled playing with her hair. Korbin smiled brightly as she turned away from him. He clearly was one of those who liked to sweet talk women. Well, she wasn't interested in.
"Honestly its complicated. He's like a little puppy that follows me around. Blind to my faults and deaf to my lies. He sees right through me and still doesn't judge me. He's always there when I need him most and even though he isn't the strongest guy in the valley, he'll fight like he is. For me." Korbin muttered as he played with Quinn's dark hair. Sherry narrowed her eyes as she looked the young man over.
"If I didn't know any better it would sound like you're in love with him." Sherry grumbled wondering if he was messing with her. They were in their twenties and good looking. No doubt the pair of them could have married any girl they wanted and started their families. Though after speaking with the darker one, it was clear he had no intentions of settling down for a girl. Korbin simply chuckled as he relaxed.
"That's for me to know and you to find out." Korbin told her softly as he glanced around their cell's. They sat in silence before the rooms shivered violently causing Quinn to awaken startled.
"What was that?" Korbin asked as the druid got to her feet glancing around.
"Korbin, you're awake! Are you feeling alright?" Quinn started, pausing when Korbin reached through the bars to cover Quinn's mouth.
"Sherry! What's going on?" Korbin growled ignoring Quinn. He didn't have time for Quinn to be distracted with him. If they were in danger, he needed to be alert and ready.
"The Mother tree is rejoicing. The king has come home." She replied excitedly. Quinn pulled away from Korbin grumpily. When were they on a first name basis? Korbin sighed at Quinn's pouting attitude, deciding to ignore it.
"Does this mean he will be coming here to speak with Quinn?" Korbin asked as she wandered over patting his hands that held the bars.
"The king will be busy for a while yet. I am sure he won't have time to deal with you two for a while. Why? What's your hurry? Chances are he will take the boy away once he is ready. You are only here until he has no need of you." Sherry told him making Korbin frown.
"Well, I wish he would do it sooner than later. The suspense is killing me." Quinn muttered sarcastically as he plopped down onto his cot away from them.
"He is such a mopey jealous princess." Korbin muttered under his breath. Sherry chuckled watching as Korbin blushed slightly. He hadn't expected her to hear him.
"You look hungry. Food will do you two some good." Sherry told him wobbling away. She paused by Quinn as he glared at her before rolling away.
"I'll remind the king your down here. Try to hurry him up so you aren't so bored." Sherry joked as she wandered away. Korbin sighed watching her go, before turning on the pale boy. He did need to eat more. He paused to pick up a pebble from the floor, flicking it at Quinn. The pouting boy hissed, turning to glare at him.
"Don't be like that. You should know there is nothing going on between me and that wrinkled old tree." Korbin growled as Quinn huffed.
"What do I care? You are free to do as you like." Quinn grumbled turning back to face the wall. Korbin growled pacing the length of the cell.
"Oh, right sure I am. As long as it's what you want." Korbin hissed annoyed. Quinn sat up, too agitated to be laying down.
"So, let's get this straight, I can be free to do whatever I want as long as you give me the okay first. Yeah, that seems healthy." Korbin grunted leaning against the bars and giving Quinn his back. He knew Quinn would be too stubborn to fight him face to face. He tried not to smile when he heard the cot squeak as Quinn got to his feet.
It wasn't his fault Quinn had the emotional level of a five-year-old boy getting locked up by the person he was supposed to be able trust. He had hoped Quinn would get better over time, but Quinn was struggling with love and jealousy. Two emotions that easily got out of control if he never dealt with them in a healthy environment.
Most people met their first loves and got over them pretty easily. Quinn didn't know how to let go or handle the negative feelings that came with it. No one had ever shown him. Korbin hadn't realized how much it had gotten out of control until his lovers started ending up dead. A single arrow ending the beating of their hearts.
"Once the king comes for me, I am sure he will release you. Then you will be free of me." Quinn grumbled as he leaned against a different wall. Closer to Korbin, but still out of reach. Korbin clenched his fists turning on him with a hiss.
"Are you that desperate to leave me? That's why you agreed to his terms in the first place isn't it? God, you just..." Korbin bit his tongue to keep the words from leaving his mouth. Sometimes he wondered if Quinn pissed him off on purpose to drive him away.
"Get over here. NOW." Korbin demanded as Quinn glanced at him a little confused. He paled when he saw Korbin's glare as he stood with an arm through the vines, his hand outstretched in waiting. Quinn wandered over slowly looking more and more like a beaten puppy. He knew he had crossed a line and was waiting for Korbin to punish him. He flinched when Korbin grabbed his arm dragging him closer.
"Look, Quinn. No matter what happens here, we are never returning to our old life. So, let's start over. New life, new us." Korbin told him softly as Quinn looked at him surprised.
"What?" Quinn asked in a barely audible whisper. Korbin smiled softly making Quinn blush confused. This hadn't been what Quinn expected.
"You heard me. Let's build a new life together. Forget the past. Let's be what we always wanted to be." Korbin murmured as he stroked Quinn's cheek.
"But I never wanted to be anything. I just wanted to be by your side." Quinn grumbled at the vines. Korbin sighed making Quinn blush embarrassed. Korbin reached through the roots grabbing Quinn's hand and pulling it to his side with his free hand. Keep the other on Quinns face so he couldn't turn away.
"Promise me something. Promise you will stop killing women out of hate for the person already long dead." Korbin muttered as held Quinn's hand to his chest. Quinn balked, wanting to promise this needy Korbin, but his hate was too strong to just agree right away.
"What if they piss me off?" Quinn asked softly. Korbin frowned at him shaking his head.
"You are only allowed to kill a woman, if and only if, she is trying to kill you or me. You can't just kill them for looking at me." Korbin told him as Quinn sighed.
"Alright. I promise I will not kill women unless they are trying to kill me or you." Quinn grumbled. Why did Korbin care? Oh, right. He probably wanted to date some girl and wanted to make sure he wouldn't' kill her. He squeaked when Korbin grabbed his face in both hands pulling him close.
"I need you to promise me this and mean it, if I am ever going to be your lover. I can't be worried about you all of the time if we try to make lives for ourselves outside the valley. It's inevitable, I'm hot and the chicks love me. I can't be worried they will end up dead just for talking to me. Just because I talk to them doesn't mean I will sleep with them. Once I'm yours I am only yours, Quinn. I need you to trust me." Korbin told him gently as he shook his head softly. Korbin smiled as he watched him process his words, blushing a dark red as he stared in disbelief.
"You... me... together?" Quinn squeaked as Korbin chuckled.
"That kiss was only the beginning. I love you Quinn and always have. I just knew our love was a tangled fucked up dwarven mine collapse. Most would call it unhealthy or twisted, but I couldn't bring myself to care. Be mine and only mine. I will be only yours. Just if we want this to work, we need to start fresh. No more killing because we feel like it. We'll never get to settle down if people keep going missing." Korbin grunted making Quinn chuckle as he pressed his face into Korbin's palm.
"I would do anything to have a future with you. If it's letting those damn creatures live, then fine. I will do it. You are the only thing that matters to me in this world." Quinn promised as Korbin pulled him as close as the bars allowed.
"Don't worry. We will get through this, no matter what the king wants." Korbin told him as Quinn blushed. They jumped when the roots shifted, shoving them apart.
"Kor!" Quinn whimpered as he tried to keep hold of Korbin's hand. Korbin growled before he was ripped away. The vines moved to pin Korbin on his knees. Quinn struggled only to pause when a hand touched his shoulder. Quinn growled at the druid king as he just looked him over tiredly.
"Look I am only here because Sherry insisted you wanted to talk with me." Hank growled waving his hand and building a wall between them and Korbin. He rubbed his face tiredly as he listened to the redhead curse and swear. He could feel him struggling angrily against the vines.
"You're the one that captured me. Tell me why and then release us." Quinn hissed. He grew quiet when Hank grabbed his face, squishing his cheeks.
"I am the king. You do not command me to do anything. Unless you are the queen then we can talk." Hank muttered thinking about his raging wife. She was seriously mad at him, not that he blamed her. "Look its late, I have had a hell of a day and I am not in the mood to be dealing with the two of you." Hanks sighed letting him go.
"Then just let us go?" Quinn asked wiggling his face. The dude had a killer grip. Hank glared at him making Quinn pout stubbornly.
"Murderous criminals wanted in three different kingdoms simply let go?" Hank asked him as Quinn shrugged.
"It was worth a try." Quinn grumbled. Hank simply waved his hand releasing Quinn from the roots. He paused listening as Korbin got louder. Quinn blushed as Sherry huffed outside the cell.
"This isn't going anywhere. He simply won't listen." Sherry grumbled as Hank nodded at her.
"Just leave him. Quinn, is it? Look, I have to deal with taking over the kingdom. Honestly dealing with you in the next few days while I wait for the seer to contact me is only going to annoy me. Can I just ignore you for a few days? Possibly a week?" Hank asked as Quinn folded his arms across his chest.
"You, the king, are asking me, the prisoner, if you can ignore me? If I say no?" Quinn asked sarcastically. Hank chuckled despite himself shaking his head.
"You're right of course, but I was hoping we could make an agreement. You promise not to cause trouble for Sherry, and you will be fed and clothed. You will have a place to sleep and... I will allow you to share you cell. You and Korbin will remain here as guests until I can find time to deal with you." Hank told him as Quinn paused.
"No escaping, be nice to the hag, and I can have Korbin while we wait for your time to free up?" Quinn asked cautiously. "What's the catch?" He wondered leaning against the wall.
"Nothing. You get what you want, and I get what I want. Just think of it as a hotel you can never leave with a guard. Are we in agreement?" Hank asked holding out his hand. Quinn looked at him confused before taking his hand cautiously. Hank shook it once before wandering away.
"Also remember, your agreement includes Korbin. If he tries to make trouble, you're both in trouble. And I will know." Hank told him waving his hand removing the wall. He waved to Korbin as he left, letting the vines fall away. Korbin crossed the room quickly grabbing Quinn, putting himself between the door and the startled boy.
"Did he hurt you?" Korbin asked as he looked him over. Quinn blushed shaking his head.
"He just wanted to talk. Said to wait for him until he is ready." Quinn muttered leaning into Korbin's bare chest. Korbin sighed as he hugged Quinn close.
"He said you could stay with me if we promise not to escape and be nice to... Sherry." Quinn muttered disgusted. Korbin leaned back to look at him as Quinn blushed turning away. Quinn was really trying. He was changing slowly and that made Korbin so happy. Quinn squeaked when Korbin pulled him back in, kissing him.
"Then it sounds like we have time. Should we use it to make up for lost time?" Korbin purred at the bright red boy in his arms.
"Youthink we have enough time? I have been waiting years for you after all." Quinnmuttered, kissing Korbin deeply. Maybe being a good guy wouldn't be so bad.
