The Warriors of Kyoshi

Aya's POV

"You have no idea where you are going, do you?" Sokka questioned Aang checking the map.

We were flying on Appa completely lost and Aang didn't know where we were headed. My sister and I were sewing our brothers' trousers.

"Well, I know it's near water," Aang replied.

"I guess we're getting lose than," Sokka said.

"Hey, Aya. Check out this airbending trick." I heard Aang say, but I focused on my sewing job.

"That's great, Aang," I responded, without moving my eyes.

"You didn't even look." Aang countered.

I turned my head to the Avatar, "That's great!"

"But I'm not doing it now," Aang informed, sadly.

I rubbed my neck, feeling guilty for ignoring Aang.

"Stop bugging her, bud. You need to give girls space when they go they sewing." Sokka explained to Aang, which triggered my sister and me.

"What does us being girls have to do with sewing?" Katara glared at us brother. I lowered my needle, glaring as well.

"Simple, girls are better at fixing pants than guys. Guys are better at hunting and fighting and stuff like that. It's just a natural order of things." Sokka explained, but Katara and I weren't amused.  We were upset with our sexist brother.

My sister and I shared a look before I bitterly replied.

"All done with your pants and look what a great job we did." I raised up the unfinished pants and tossed them at Sokka's face.

He grunted, pulling the pants off. "Girls, wait! I was just kidding! I can't wear these! Katara, Aya, please!"

We ignored him.

"Relax, Sokka. Where we're going you won't need pants." Aang informed him before descending down onto an island.

"We just made a pit stop yesterday, shouldn't we get a little more flying down before we camp out?" Sokka questioned, which I agreed with him.

"He's right. At this rate, we won't get to the North Pole until Spring." Katara added, making a valid point.

"But Appa's tired already, aren't you boy?" Aang asked his flying bison, who made a tiny grunt in response.

Aang nudged him. "I said, aren't you, boy?"

Appa did a fake yawn.

"Yeah, that was real convincing." Sokka sarcastically told Appa. "Still, hard to argue with a ten-ton magical monster."

Aang gasped and pointed out towards the ocean. "Look!"

We ran forward to see a giant fish spring out of the water. I widened my eyes for a moment.

"That's why we're here. Elephant Koi! And I'm gonna ride it!" Aang began to strip down to his underwear, making me blush pink.  "Aya! You gotta watch me!"

I smiled faintly and watched Aang do his thing.

Aang jumped into the water and then flew out screaming, "COLD!"

I giggled, covering my mouth. Aang swam further into the ocean and dived under. He appeared seconds later, riding the Elephant Koi. I smiled widely, clapping quietly. Katara was impressed too.

Aanh laughed, waving at me. I cheered, waving back.

I turned to my brother and sister. "He's doing pretty good out there."

Katara nodded.

"Are you kidding? The fish is doing all the work." Sokka pointed out, unimpressed.

I rolled my eyes before seeing Appa eating something unusual.

Katara noticed too. "No, Appa don't eat that!"

We both chased after Appa to restrain him from eating it.

We returned to find something had happened.

"What's wrong?" I asked, concerned.

"That's something in the water," Sokka informed.

We called out to Aang to warn him, but he ended up flying off the Koi and landed in the water. I gasped when a giant purple-like fin emerged from the water. Aang yelled and used his airbending to run on the water as fast as he can. The unusual sea creature chased him until Aang ran into Sokka knocking him down.

The creature disappeared.

Katara and I ran over to the boys. Aang was redressing himself and Sokka sat there.

"What was that thing?" I asked, concerned.

"I don't know," Aang said.

Sokka stood up, dusting his hands off. "Well, let's not stick around to find out. Time to hit the road."

That's when we were surrounded by a group and one by one were taken.  I yelped when I was grabbed and got tied up and blindfolded.

We got shoved to the ground, grunting when we hit the dirt.

"Or we could stay awhile." I heard Sokka suggest.

----

The mysterious group of people kidnapped us and tied us to an object together.  I was frightened but at least I'm not dead.

"You four have some explaining to do." A male voice entered my voice.

"And if you don't answer all our questions, we're throwing you back into the water with the Unagi."

"Show yourselves, cowards!" Sokka exclaimed with no fear.

Our blindfolds were removed to reveal a group of female warriors in Earth Kingdom clothes.

"Who are you? Where are the men that ambushed us?!" Sokka asked, sternly.

"There were no men; we ambushed you. Now tell us who you are and what you are doing here?" The female in the front demanded

Sokka leaned closer, "Wait a second, there is no way a bunch of girls took us down." I rolled my eyes at Sokka's sexist remark.

The same female gripped Sokka's coat. "A bunch of girls, huh? The Unagi's gonna eat well tonight."

I sometimes agree he deserves it his punishments.

"No don't hurt him!" Katara stepped in. "My brother's just an idiot sometimes."

"Sometimes is an understatement," I added on, making Sokka glare at me. The female lets go of Sokka.

"It's my fault." I heard Aang sadly blame himself. "I'm sorry we came here. I wanted to ride the Elephant Koi."

"How do we know you're not Fire Nation spies? Kyoshi stayed out of the war so far and we intend to keep that way." The male explained to us, firmly.

"This is named for Kyoshi? I knew Kyoshi!" Aang twinkled.

The male, who I believe is the leader, laughed at Aang's comment. "How could you know her? Avatar Kyoshi was born here four-hundred years old. She's been dead for centuries."

"I know her because I'm the Avatar." Aang proclaimed.

"That's impossible. The last Avatar was an Airbender who disappeared over a hundred years ago." The leader of the warriors stated with disbelief.

"That's me!" Aang chirped.

"Throw the imposter to the Unagi!" The Island leader ordered and the girls opened their fans up and surrounded us. I leaned back and looked at Aang.

"Aang, do some airbending," I muttered.

Aang quickly airbended his way out of the ropes and landed on the ground, impressing the entire village.

'It's true, you are the Avatar." The island leader gasped.

"Now check this out!" Aang pulled out something and began to airbend two marbles with his hands. The village cheered for his little trick.

-----

The village began to honor Aang by cleaning up the statue of Kyoshi. Aang, my sister, and I were served an amazing meal of desserts and treats. Aang was excited to eat and I was too but I didn't show it. Katara was unsure but enjoyed.

"Alright!" Aang cheered. "Dessert for breakfast!"

I grabbed a dessert and took a bite. It was pretty good.

Aang quickly dug in. "These people sure know how to treat the Avatar!" Aya handed me a different dessert. "Aya! You gotta try these!"

I giggled and took the dessert from Aang. "Maybe just a bite."

I really enjoyed this and Katara did too.

Aang noticed Sokk slouching in the corner, upset.

"Sokka! What's your problem? Eat!" Aang encouraged our brother, who didn't care.

"Not hungry." He muttered.

'But you're always hungry!" Aang reminded him, confused.

"He's just upset because a bunch of girls kicked his butt yesterday," Katara informed Aang with amusement in her voice.

"They snuck up on me!" Sokka protested.

"Right, and then they kicked your butt," I smirked.

"Sneak attacks don't count!" Sokka stood up and marched out. "Tie me up with ropes. I'll show them a thing or two." Sokka came back and grabbed a bunch of treats. "I'm not scared of any girls! Who do they think they are anyway? Mhmm, this is tasty." Sokka ran off.

"What's he so angry about? It's great here! They're giving us the royal treatment." Aang smiled.

"Hey, don't get too comfortable. It's risky for us to stay in one place for too long." Katara  warned Aang,

"I'm sure we'll be fine. Besides, did you see how happy I'm making this town?" Aang assured us, leaning towards Katara and me.

Aang glanced outside. "They're even cleaning that statue in my honor!"

"Well, it's nice to see that you're excited about being the Avatar." I pointed out. I averted my eyes. "I just hope it doesn't all go to your head."

"Come on, you know me better than that. I'm just a simple monk." Aang rose to his feet and looked out the window. Suddenly young girls shrieks entered my ears and my sister and I stood up to find a bunch of fangirls outside.

Katara chuckled, but I on the other head folded my arms, rolling my eyes. I stuck out my tongue and blew a raspberry.

---

The royal treatment Aang is getting is going to his head. All the young girls love him and it's so annoying. Katara is teasing me about it, but I waved her off.

I was collecting some vegetables because Katara asked me too for our trip. She probably wanted me to talk to Aang, but he's too busy with his fangirls.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and saw Aang standing there. I smiled when I spotted him and turned to him. "Oh good! Can you help me carry this back to the room? It's kinda heavy." I gestured to the basket I have.

It honestly wasn't at all but I wanted to spend time with Aang.

"Actually, I can't right now." Aang declined.

"What do you mean 'right now'?" I questioned.

"I promised the girls, I'd give them a ride on Appa. Why don't you come with us?" Aang suggested. "It'll be fun."

As much as I wanted to, I didn't like the girls.

"Watching you show off for a bunch of girls does not sound like fun," I replied honestly. I tried my best to be nice about it.

"Well, neither does carrying your basket?" Aang countered.

"It's not my basket. These supplies are for our trip." I explained. "Katara told you, we have to leave Kyoshi soon."

"I don't want to leave Kyoshi yet. I can't my finger on it, but there's something I really like about this place." Aang smirked, and the girls happened to be giggled from behind him.

"What's taking you so long, Aangie?" The girl stomped her foot, impatiently.

"Aangie?" I questioned, glaring for a second.

"Just a sec, Coco!" Aang called out to her.

"Just a simple monk, huh? I thought you promised us this Avatar stuff wouldn't go to your head?" I asked him, reminding him of earlier.

"No, it didn't," Aang argued. "You know what I think? I think you don't want to come because you're jealous?" Aang smirked.

"Jealous?!" I exclaimed, getting angry. "Of what?"

I furiously picked out vegetables, mentally killing Katara for sending me out here.

"Jealous that we're having so much fun without you," Aang answered.

I scoffed, "That's ridiculous."

"It is a little ridiculous, but I understand." Aang shrugged.

I glared up at the Airbender and groaned, walking away with my basket.

I'm not jealous.

---

I went back to my room to give Katara the vegetables she asked for. She went upstairs to practice bending water in a bowl, while I sharpened my daggers. I do this when I'm mad.

(Her other dagger is the same, but the handle is red)

"Aya, remember how the Ungai almost got me yesterday?" I heard Aang remind me.

I didn't bother looking at him. "Yeah."

"Well, I'm gonna go ride it now. It's gonna be real dangerous." Aang informed me and I could sense the smirk form on his face.

"Good for you." I pretended not to care, but in reality, I did a lot.

"You're not gonna stop me?" Aang asked, confused.

"Nope." I simply stated. "Have fun."

"I will!"

"Great." I frowned.

"I know it's great."

"I'm glad you know."

"I'm glad you're glad."

"Good!"

"Fine!"

I dropped my dagger in anger. I hugged my arms, feeling confused.

I glanced at the door and Aang was gone.

I sighed and put my daggers away for now. I stood up and heard Katara come downstairs.

"What happened? I heard yelling." She asked, concerned.

I shrugged, "Aang and I are fighting."

Her face dropped and hugged me.

"Don't worry about. He will realize his mistake, Aya."

"I hope so," I muttered.

----

Katara convinced me to go find Aang. She thought it would help. Besides I wanted to make sure he was okay

I made my way to the beach to find Aang alone in the water. The girls left.

"Aya!" He exclaimed, happily. "You showed up!"

"I wanted to make sure you were safe. You really had me worried." I admitted, giving him a small smile.

"Back there you acted like you didn't care." Aang protested.

"I'm sorry," I confessed, feeling guilty.

"Me too," Aang confessed. "I did let that attention go to my head. I was being a jerk."

I smiled. "Well get out of the water before you catch a cold, you big jerk."

Aang flashed a big smile and swam towards land. "On my way!"

I gasped when I saw the fin of the Ungai emerge from the water. Aang yelled out and landed on top of the Ungai's back and the long head of the creature appeared from the water.

The Ungai blasted water at Aang trying to get him off.

I watched in fear as the creature attempted to bite Aang. Aang grabbed the creatures whisker in desperation and fear and started yelling as the creature thrashed him around.

"Hang on, Aang!" I called out. One last toss and Aang got flung off into the water. He was unconscious.

I quickly ran into the water to save him. "Aang!"

The creature swam toward Aang to finish him. I held onto Aang as the Ungai shot out from the water and I couldn't do anything to protect us.

"I'm sorry, Aang." I apologized, sadly.

I was ready for the creature to hit me when I felt myself being pulled backward. I yelped, grasping onto Aang.

The creature splashed us to shore and we landed behind some rocks. The Ungai couldn't spot us and submerged into the water.

I peaked over the rocks and saw a warship.

"Zuko." I gasped.

The ship pulled ashore and Zuko and some guards rode out on rihnos.

I quickly hid when they passed by and sighed in relief when they were out of earshot.

"Aya!" I heard a familiar voice, softly say. I spotted my sister and gasped; I hugged her.

"Thank you for saving both of us." I thanked her, pulling away.

"I was worried so I came after you two." She noticed Aang and quickly put him on his back.

We were worried about him.

"Wake up, Aang." I encouraged.

Katara stopped me and I watched as she raised her hand to his mouth. She bended the water out of his lungs and Aang began to cough.

I smiled with relief and held his head gently.

He opened his eyes, weakly. "Aya, don't ride the Ungai. Not fun."

Katara and I shared a look before taking him back to the village.

We informed Aang that Zuko is here. He quickly perked up and sprinted towards the village, we followed close behind.

----

As Aang dealt with Zuko, Katara and I protected the young ones.  The village was destroyed, the buildings were on fire, it was an awful sight to see.

I saw Aang land on the ground with his glider in his hands.

"Look what I've brought to this place." Aang expressed sorrowfully.

"It's not your fault," I told him.

"These people got their town destroyed trying to protect me," Aang argued, sadly.

"Then let's get out of here. Zuko will leave Kyoshi to follow us." Katara suggested. "I know it feels wrong to run, but It's the only way."

Aang hung his head. "I'll call Appa."

This place didn't deserve this and running from this place feels awful. Hopefully, Zuko will leave them alone after we leave.

We told Sokka we were leaving and he quickly said his goodbyes to Suki before joining us on Appa.

"Appa! Yip-Yip!" Aang called out and Appa quickly ascended to the sky. I looked back at the village to see fire everywhere and smoke was in the air.

I turned to Aang who was upset like me. "I know it's hard, but you did the right thing. Zuko would've destroyed the entire place if we stayed. They's be okay, Aang."

Out of nowhere, Aang jumped off of Appa.

I gasped along with Katara. "What are you doing?!"

Aang dived into the water and moments later, the Ungai appears. Aang was trying to control it and succeeded.

He pulled on the Ungai and its mouth opened and blasted water onto the village. The water put the fire out, making me smile.

There is a reason he is the Avatar.

Aang launched himself up and Appa caught him. Aang sat in between us three on the saddle.

"I know, I know. That was stupid and dangerous." Aang began.

"Yes, it was." I nodded, but I leaped forward and hugged him. He gasped happily and hugged back.
