The Avatar Returns

Aya's POV

We made our way back to the village to see the entire village standing there, including Appa. The children were excited to see Aang.

"Yay! Aang's back!" They cheered and surrounded him.

"I knew it. You signaled the Fire Navy with that flare!" Sokka exclaimed, stepping forward. "You're leading them straight to us, aren't you?"

"Aang didn't do anything. It was an accident." I explained, glaring at my brother. My sister wasn't happy with what happened.

"Yeah, we were on the ship and there was this booby trap and...well..we" Aang stuttered, rubbing his head. "We boobied right into it."

"Aya, you shouldn't have gone on that ship. Now we could all be in danger." Gran Gran warned.

"Don't blame, Aya. I brought her there." Aang defended me and then looked down, sorrowfully. "It's my fault."

"Ah ha!" Sokka pointed. "The traitor confesses! Warriors away from the enemy! The foreigner is banished from our village!" The young warriors moved away from Aang and I was angry with Sokka.

"Sokka! You're making a mistake!" Katara stepped in, not happy with his decision.

"No, I'm keeping my promise to dad." Sokka glared. "Protecting you two from threats like him!" Sokka pointed to Aang.

"Aang is not our enemy!" I exclaimed, crossing my arms. "Don't you see, Aang's brought us something we haven't had in a long time. Fun."

"Fun?" Sokka questioned. "We can't fight fire benders with fun!"

"You should try it sometime," Aang suggested.

"Get out of our village. NOW!" Sokka exclaimed, sternly.

Katara looked at Gran Gran, "Grandmother, please."

It made me feel hope to know Katara trust Aang.

"Don't let Sokka do this." I pleaded to Gran Gran.

"Aya, you knew going on that ship was forbidden. Sokka is right, I think it's best if the Airbender leaves." Gran Gran confirmed

"Fine!" I cried. "Then I'm banished too!"

"Me too!" Katara cried and walked over to us. "Come on Aya and Aang! Let's go!"

I grabbed Aang's arm and pulled him towards Appa with Katara following.

"Where you two think you're going?' Sokka asked, sternly.

"To find my sister a waterbender!" I exclaimed and saw my sisters face light up. "Aang is taking us to the North Pole."

"Aya." Katara breathed out, happily. She was still mad but same time happy.

"I am?" He questioned. "Great!"

"Aya! Katara!" Sokka shouted, stopping us. "Would you really choose him over your tribe? Your own family?"

I didn't think about that. My family is the most important thing to me and I believe Katara feels the same.

Katara and I shared a look of sorrow before Aang came up to us

"Aya, Katara, I don't want to come between you and your family," Aang told us and sadly moved passed out.

I felt heartbroken knowing he was leaving.

"So, you're leaving the South Pole?" Katara sadly asked.

My facial expression changed to sadness. "So this is goodbye?"

"Thanks for penguin sledding with me." Aang gave me a small smile.

"Where will you go?" Katara asked.

He placed his hand on Appa. "Guess I'll go back home and look for the airbenders." He then realized something. "Wow, I haven't cleaned my room in a hundred years. Not looking forward to that."

I smiled in amusement. Even in sad moments, he always looks on the bright side.

Aang airbended onto Appa's head and looked at us. I hugged my sister and she hugged back. I felt a tear trickle down my face.

"It was nice meeting everyone!" Aang told the village.

"Let's see your bison fly now, Air Boy," Sokka grumbled, stubbornly.

"Come on Appa! Yip-Yip!" Aang whacked his reigns and Appa rose to his feet, growling.

"Yeah, I thought so!" Sokka exclaimed, quite rudely.

I heard a cry and saw a young girl run towards us. She was crying and looked up at the Airbender.

"Aang, don't go, I'll miss you." She pleaded sadly.

Aang gave her a sorrowful expression. "I'll miss you too."

Aang moved his eyes to me and we stared at each other for a few moments. Another tear slid down my face and I quickly wiped it away.

Aang turned away and grabbed the reigns. "Come on, boy."

I watched as Appa strolled away with Aang.

The young girl walked back to the village upset.

I pulled away from Katara and we looked at each other. She was mad and upset just like me.

"Girls, you will feel better after you-" I heard Gran-Gran start but we interrupted her.

"You happy now? There goes my one chance of becoming a waterbender!" Katara exclaimed, angrily at Gran-Gran.

Katara grabbed my hand and we walked away, upset. I was to upset to speak to anyone.

----

The Fire Navy was on it's way to the Water Tribe. We had to be prepared for the attack. Sokka is the strongest warrior we have right now, but he will probably get knocked around by the Fire benders.

I was still extremely upset that Aang was banished. For the first time in a while, I had fun. Aang brought us something we needed but he was banished because of it.

Sokka stood tall at the top of the wall of the village. He waited for the Fire Navy to arrive so he can attack.

Suddenly, the ground began to rumble. I gasped, grabbing my sister's arm. She wrapped me in her arms, protectively.

The village scurried around, frantically. Katara and I stood there and watched as the giant Fire Navy ship emerged from the shadows.

Katara and I ran to get the young ones to safety and into the tents. The ship was getting closer and closer by the second.

I gasped when I saw a little boy on the ground, scared.

I quickly scooped him up in my arms and moved him away from the ship. I gently placed him at the tent and he ran in.

Katara grabbed my hand and we noticed our brother still on the wall.

"SOKKA! GET OUT OF THE WAY!" We both screamed at our brother, who was ready to attack the ship. He is insane if he thinks he can take on the entire ship.

The ship crashed into the wall, making the snow break and fall with Sokka sliding down it. I sighed with relief, knowing he wasn't harmed.

Suddenly, the door to the ship fell to the ground. Sokka fell backward as it slammed into the ground, making snow fly up

Emerging from the shadows, was the Prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko. He made his way towards us, with two guards at his sides.

Sokka did his battle cry and went to attack, but Zuko knocked his boomerang away and kicked Sokka into the snow head first.

The village gasped as Zuko and six guards approached us.

Zuko searched scanned the area.

"Where are you hiding him?" He asked, firmly.

Everyone stayed quiet, afraid to respond.

Zuko then suddenly grabbed Gran Gran's coat and pulled her away. My sister and I reached for her but couldn't grab her.

"He would be about this age. The master of all four elements!" Zuko exclaimed, gesturing to Gran Gran.

I tiled my head in confusion. The Avatar?

Zuko pushed Gran Gran away and we caught her. Zuko threatened us with his firebending, making all of us cry in fear.

"I know you're hiding him!" Zuko exclaimed.

Another battle cry was heard and suddenly Zuko ducked down and Sokka appeared jumping over his head and then falling to the ground. Sokka rolled and tossed his boomerang at the prince who moved away, quickly. Zuko glared at my brother.

"Show no fear!" One of the boys tossed Sokka a spear. Sokka sprinted towards Zuko with the spear, but Zuko broke the spear and snatched it and bonked Sokka's head with it a few times. Sokka fell down and rubbed his head.

I gasped when I saw the boomerang make it's way back and knocked Zuko in the head.

He grunted and glared angrily at my brother. Fire appeared in his hands, ready to strike at him.

Out of nowhere, a penguin slid toward us and knocked Zuko into the air and landed on his head. I smiled with delight when I noticed it was Aang on the penguin.

The children cheered when they saw the Airbender.

The penguin pushed him off and waddled way.

Aang turned to us. "Hey Aya. Hey Katara. Hey Sokka."

"Hi, Aang. Thanks for coming." Sokka waved, nonchalantly.

Zuko stood up and raised his hands. The guards surrounded Aang, who was ready to fight.

Aang airbended snow into the guards' faces and then into Zuko's face.

"Looking for me?" Aang questioned. I blinked a few times before realizing something.

Is Aang the avatar?

"You're the Airbender? You're the avatar?" Zuko asked in disbelief.

"Aang?" Katara breathed out.

"No way," Sokka said.

"Woah." I blinked.

The Avatar and the prince circled each other.

"I've spent years preparing for this encounter. Training, meditating. You're just a child!" Zuko exclaimed.

"Well, you're just a teenager." Aang countered.

Zuko firbended at Aang who blocked it with his staff.

The village and I covered our faces in fear and yelped when the fire got near us.

Suddenly, Aang stopped.

"If I go with you, will you promise to leave everyone alone?" Aang negotiated with Zuko.

Zuko waited for a few before nodding his head. The guards grabbed Aang and led him toward the Fire Navy Ship.

I moved forward and desperately pleaded him not to leave.

"No Aang, don't do this!" I cried out, watching him get pulled by the guards.

"Don't worry, Aya. It will be okay." Aang assured me. He grunted when the guards pushed him forward. "Take care of Appa for me until I get back!"

I felt tears form in my eyes and they rolled down my face.

"Head a course to the Fire Nation! We're going home!" Zuko ordered, entering the ship. Aang and the guards stood there as the door slowly closed.

Aang's small grin faded when he spotted my face. The door closed and the ship descended.

----

"We have to go after that ship, Sokka, and Aya!" Katara declared. "Aang saved our tribe and now we have to save him!"

"I don't care what we have to do. We need to save him." I agreed with my sister.

"Girls, I-"

I sighed, "Why can't you realize he is on our side?! If we don't help him, no one will!"

"I know you don't like Aang but we owe him-"

"Girls!" Sokka cut off Katara. "Are you two gonna talk or day or are you coming with me?"

We both turned around to find a canoe filled with supplies. We both gasped and ran towards our brother and embraced him tightly.

"Sokka!" We exclaimed with happiness.

"Get in, we're gonna save Aya's boyfriend." Soka gestured to the canoe.

"He's not my-." I protested, feeling my cheeks get warm.

"Whatever." Sokka shrugged.

Katara giggled, making me frown. I'm not into Aang like that.

"What do you three think you are doing?' We jumped and turned around to find Gran-Gran standing there.

Us three stood there innocently, hoping she won't question it.

Gran-Gran then smiled graciously and handed us some sleeping bags. "You'll need these."

My siblings and I shared a look of surprise by our grandmother's reaction.

"It's been so long since I've had hope, but you two brought it back to life my little waterbender and my little snowflake," Gran-Gran told my sister and me, giving us a hug. Gran-Gran then turned to Sokka.

"And you my brave warrior." Sokka smiled at her, waiting for a kind comment. "Be nice to your sisters." She hugged Sokka who patted her back.

"Yeah, okay Gran." He nodded, feeling embarrassed. He smiled sheepishly as she pulled away.

"Aang is the Avatar. He's the worlds only chance. You three found him for a reason. Now your destinies are intertwined with his." Gran Gran explained. Katara, Sokka, and I shared a look.

I turned to the canoe. "There is no way, we're gonna catch a warship with a canoe."

Suddenly, a loud growl was heard in the distance. I shifted my eyes to see Appa. He roared loudly.

"Appa!" Katara and I smiled, before running towards the bison.

"You just love taking me out of my comfort zone, don't ya?" Sokka grumbled.

----

We boarded Appa expecting him to fly, but he just swam in the water. Sokka and I sat on the saddle, while Katara took the reigns.

Sokka was still unimpressed.

"Go. Fly. Soar." Sokka deadpanned.

Appa groaned in return.

"Please Appa. We need your help. Aang needs your help." Katara encouraged.

"Up. Ascend. Elevate." Sokka attempted again.

I sighed and began to pet the bison. "Sokka doesn't believe you can fly, but Katara and I do. Come on, don't you wanna save Aang?"

Appa groaned.

"What was it that kid said?" Sokka questioned. "Yee-haw? Hup-hup? Wahoo?"

I then gasped, remembering what Aang said.

"Yip-Yip!"

Appa then began to speed up, making us shake. His tail flapped and then ascended into the sky. Appa was flying!

I grew a giant smile as Appa soared through the air.

"You did it, Aya!" My sister exclaimed, happily.

"He's flying! He's flying! Girls, he's-" Sokka immediately shut up when he saw the smug looks on our faces.

Sokka's face turned into an 'I don't care' look. "I mean, big deal, he's flying."

I giggled and turned away from him.

----

We quickly made our way towards the Fire Navy ship. Appa growled loudly when he spotted Aang. Aang was up against Zuko.

"Appa!" Aang exclaimed.

Zuko began to firebend Aang. Aang did well blocking Zuko but lost his staff halfway through. Moments later, Zuko ended up knocking Aang out and sent him into the water.

I gasped in fear. "Aang! No!"

Katara and I began to call out his name, hoping he would show any sign of life.

That's when we saw Aang sprung out of the water, forming a water tornado at his feet.

I was shocked by this. He knows waterbending already?

Aang waterbended himself to the ship and attacked Zuko and some of the guards into the water.

"Did you see what he just did?!" I exclaimed impressed.

"Do you think I can do that?" Katara asked with hope.

"Now that is some serious waterbending," Sokka stated.

We landed on the ship to see that Aang had passed out.

We quickly hopped off to check on him.

"Aang!" I called out. "Are you okay?"

"Hey, Aya. Hey Katara. Hey Sokka. Thank for coming." Aang thanked in a weak tone.

"Well, I couldn't let you have all the glory." Sokka joked.

"I dropped my staff," Aang informed us and Sokka ran over to it.

"Got it!"

I got alarmed when Zuko appeared and grabbed the staff. Luckily, Sokka pushed him off of it.

"Ha! That's from the water tribe!" Sokka laughed.

Katara and I lifted Aang onto Appa, carefully. I sat next to Aang to make sure he doesn't hurt himself.

"Are you alright?" I asked Aang.

He weakly nodded. "I am now."

I gave him a soft smile but it faded away when I saw the guards rise to their feet.

Katara decided to try out her waterbending on them. She launched her water at them, but it flew backward and froze Sokkas' ankles.

"Katara!" Sokka complained.

Katara turned around and tried that move again. She focused and bended the water behind her and froze the guards, successfully.

Katars made her way onto Appa, while I hopped down to help my brother.

"Hurry up, Sokka and Aya!" Katara rushed.

I pulled out my two daggers and started the break the ice.

Sokka grumbled. "Just a guy with a boomerang. I didn't ask for all this magic."

"I agree," I admitted.

I sliced the ice one last time and Sokka was free. We rushed towards Appa.

"Yip-Yip!" I called out as we climbed onto Appa. "Yip-Yip!"

Appa listened and flew away.

From behind, fire got shot at us. Aang then jumped in front of the three of us and airbended the fire into the wall of a glacier.

The glacier got destroyed and completely covered the warship.

Us four cheered as we flew away.

----

"How did you do that? With the water? It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen." Katara praised, staring at Aang with anticipation.

We were flying on Appa, making our way to the North Pole. The sun was setting and it felt very peaceful and calm.

"I don't know, I just sort of did it." Aang shrugged

"Why didn't you just tell us you were the Avatar?" I asked Aang.

Aang looked way, putting his head down. "Because I never wanted to be."

We sat there in silence as a low cloud cast a shadow over our heads for a moment and the sun shined.

Katara spoke up. "But Aang the world's been waiting for the Avatar to return and finally put an end to this war."

"How am I going to do that?" Aang asked.

"According to legend, you need to first master: Water than Earth than fire, right?" Katara asked.

"That's what the monks told me." Aang glanced at Katara.

"Well, if we go to the North Pole. You can master waterbending." I suggested, forming a smile.

Aang's face lit up. "Katara and I can learn it together!"

"And Sokka, I'm sure you can knock some firebender heads on the way," I smirked with amusement.

"I'd like that. I'd really like that." Sokka smiled softly.

"And I'll figure out what I'm gonna do." I chuckled lightly.

"Than we're in this together!" Katara declared, smiling.

"Alright, but before I learn waterbending we have some serious business to attend to." Aang pulled out a map and rolled it out. He pointed to different locations on the map. "Here, here, and here."

"What's there?" I pointed to a location on the map.

"Here." He pointed. "We'll ride the hopping llamas." He moved his finger. "Then way over here, we'll surf on the backs of giant Koi fish." He pointed to another spot. "Then back over here, we'll ride the hog monkeys. They don't like people riding them but that's what makes it fun!"

I giggled and glanced at the Avatar. This will be an interesting adventure.
