Chapter Twelve
Lightpaw looked around the clearing, nervous he did not pass it. Part of him wanted to be a warrior so bad but the other part of him thought he was waiting for a day that would never come.
The apprentice remembered Dewpaw and smiled at the thought of her. She did really help him in his time of need. She was always there, now that he thought about it. Dewpaw always seemed to believe him and help him when he really needed it. Maybe they had a future together. Only time will tell.
"All cats old enough to scale the Great Birch please gather beneath the Fallen Tree for a Clan meeting!" the leader's voice rang through the clearing as he called the Clan together.
Lightpaw nervously went over and sat next to Dewpaw. She really was beautiful. The tom shook his head. Now was not the time to think of love. Now was the time to figure out how to stop Whisperstone, and more importantly, become a warrior.
Would he really become a warrior today? Lightpaw had definitely hoped it with all the heart the apprentice could give to it.
"It is time to make a new warrior!" Pebblestar announced. Lightpaw started to feel dizzy on his paws with happiness and felt light-headed with shock; he would become a warrior. "Lightpaw, please step up to the Fallen Tree," Pebblestar instructed.
The apprentice made his way to the Fallen Tree, leaping up next to Pebblestar with his mentor Whisperstone (who only glanced at Lightpaw with a gaze masked with fake happiness).
Lightpaw shrugged the thoughts of his mentor for the time being. This moment was about himself and only him. Not Whisperstone or any of his plans.
"This apprentice over the moons has shown great dedication to his Clan and fellow members. Through this, he has earned his place as a full member of GlowClan! From now until the day your life you will be known as Lightblaze, a warrior of GlowClan!" Pebblestar announced, his voice ringing through the clearing.
The apprentice, no, warrior, puffed his chest out in happiness. He looked up at his mentor, desperately searching for a sign that he was proud. Whisperstone had kept the same expression from before, just before Lightblaze's new name was conferred upon him.
Secretly Lightblaze wanted to run away from the camp to get out of the spotlight and get to somewhere where he could think. Why wasn't his mentor proud of him? Was he ever proud of him, or was it just pretence to give Lightblaze false hope?
He folded his ears back—but only a slight bit to not look suspicious to his Clan nor to his former mentor. The golden cat just wanted to curl up and sleep in his cosy den, but he didn't want to look ungrateful.
Day Undocumented
The cats went up onto that fallen tree once more today. Three cats went onto it and what we can conclude, the leader had some ceremony for the smaller cat.
