Chapter One
A cream-colored kit with hazel-brown eyes had them open wide and curiously; Lightkit pawed at his mother's side. "Nightleaf! I wanna go play!" He whined, pouncing playfully on his mother.
"Oh, Lightkit, calm down! Wait for me to wake up and stretch a little. Then we can go outside," the light brown she-cat purred, sitting up with her eyes half shut.
"But that'll take forever!" The cream kit cried. "Can I go now?" He pressed on, getting into a playful stance with dancing eyes.
Nightleaf sighed. "Alright, but take Dewkit with you," she mewed, gesturing to the other small kit egging on her mother to let her outside.
"Fine," Lightkit grumbled, stalking over to the other kit. "Hey, Dewkit! Wanna go outside?" he regretfully mewed.
"Would I?! Let's go!" The playful white kit exclaimed, racing outside and leaving her mother and Lightkit in the dust.
"H-hey, wait for me!" Lightkit yowled, racing after her. He burst out of the den, eyes wide as he looked around the beautiful camp. He had never seen anything so amazing and big.
He saw Dewkit running around the large camp wildly and ran over to Lightkit. "Have you ever seen anything so awesome?!" She exclaimed before running around the camp once more, even more thoroughly, inspecting every crook and blade of grass.
"I never thought it would be this pretty," Lightkit breathed. "Maybe you should calm down so we can go explore it together," he mewed, trying to keep his eyes on the pure white kit.
"Oh—alright, fine," Dewkit grumbled, trudging back over to Lightkit.
"Where should we go first?" Lightkit pondered, sitting down with his small tail curling around his paws.
"Oh! The Apprentice's Den? The Warrior's Den? The Elder's Den? How about the Leader's Den?" Dewkit questioned rapidly, her words sounding like a slur.
"Let's start with our future den, the Apprentice's Den," the brown kit meowed, looking over at the little cave entrance in the distance.
"What are we waiting for? Let's go!" Dewkit yelped, running to the den and once more leaving Lightkit in the dust.
"Dewkit," Lightkit grumbled, annoyed. He ran after the white kit.
The two kits peered into the empty den. Soon I'm going to be in there and will be the best apprentice this Clan has, he thought to himself.
"On to the Warrior's Den!" Dewkit yowled, snapping Lightkit back to reality and making him jump.
"Alright, let's go," Lightkit sighed. He followed Dewkit to the warriors den.
The clouds were now a dark grey, and small specks of cold white snow fell upon the clearing.
