Chapter Fourteen
John's P.O.V.
When I watch Lexi and Thomas walk into the house my chest hurts a little. I know that I hurt him, but being ignored doesn't feel to great.
I follow them inside and watch them walk to Laf's room. The door is still open a crack, I can see Lexi and Thomas still holding hands.
Laf must've noticed it too because he said something in French that made Lexi tackle him and cover his mouth. Thomas jumps on top of Alex and yells something too.
Eventually they climb off of each other and lay on the floor. I accidentally lean against the door a bit and it creaked. Laf looks up and sees me. He yells something in French. I run to my room down the hall.
I shut the door behind me and slump against it. I'm not sure how much longer I can do this. Thomas will be here for another week and a half. That's eleven more days.
I want to put the plan in action but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. It might be too soon. I want it to happen at a time where Thomas will stop liking Alex, and he won't have enough time to change his mind about it.
Also it's gonna take at least three days to put into action. One to alert Peggy, two to get the person that we need, and I third just because three is a cool number.
This has to work out perfectly, or I could lose Lexi forever. And I refuse to throw my shot with him away.
(Time skip one week. Four days until Thomas leaves)
Still John P.O.V.
Ok, I've decided to tell Peggy tomorrow. Then the plan will be in action. I'm ready for this.
A week has gone by and Lexi still hasn't forgiven me. Laf has started to soften up but still won't play with me. He did forgive Herc though, which isn't quite fare, but I think those two have something going on, if you know what I mean.
___________________________
When I wake up the next morning I get dressed quickly and head downstairs to the table. I am surprised to see Thomas sitting by Alex, more specifically, in my seat. I glare at them both as I sit down in Thomas's spot instead. I knew Lexi was mad at me, but not this mad.
I don't talk to anyone, not even Mom or Dad, I need to stay focused.
We all pile into Mom's minivan and it's my turn to sit up front. I sit quietly and stare out the window thinking. When we get to the school I'm the first one to get out of the car, still not saying a word.
I walk to the cafeteria for breakfast and sit down at the kindergarten table next to Peggy. I look at her and give her one sharp nod, signaling that we have something to talk about in class. She nods back then continues to eat her cereal.
Two hours later we are in class and are having free time. Once it looks like no one else is listening I lean over and tap Peggy.
"Did you talk to her?" I ask quietly.
"Yeah, she said she'd do it." She says then pulls out her favorite yellow play doh.
"What day did she say?" I ask her, wanting to know all the little details.
"Friday." She says still looking at her play doh. Perfect, the last day Thomas will be here.
"Should we do a face to face talk before this all goes down?" She sighs in response, I can tell she's getting annoyed.
"Sure John. Now stop worrying, you'll get wrinkles." She smirks then goes back to playing. I sigh and nod my head.
Stuff is getting real.
(Another time skip. Like three days later, day Thomas is leaving. Also this chapter will mainly be in John's p.o.v.)
Today, is the day. The day where I must become a man, and let other people fix things for me.
Now I'm sure your wondering what this amazing plan is. So let me tell you. Maria Reynolds is a first grader in Mrs. Manning's class. (no idea who she is or what she did, I just know she was a person)
She has long wavy hair, always wears red, often comes to school with scraps and bruises, she says come from her being so clumsy, but Peggy says her brother, James, put them there. The boys from my grade to the third grade call her a "fox", but I just don't see it.
She's the key to my plan. Peggy has been giving her information about Alex and told her that if she gave him a quick kiss, which I was not ok with, that she'd pay her with candy for the rest of the year.
Now do I want her to kiss Lexi? No, of course not. But sometimes you gotta take one for the team. And it'll only be a quick one.
Here's the thing, she has to kiss him at just the right time, because if it's not right in front of Thomas my entire plan would have been for nothing.
I'm hoping that when Thomas sees them kissing he will get mad at Lexi and not like him anymore. Then he'll go back to Virginia and won't be back, hopefully. And Lexi and I can live happily ever after.
That's how it works right?
