Langedauer 2
My face reflected a shining gleam,
As I related the yester dream;
My horse felt not this burning glee
And spurned thus my reverie.
"It could as well have been a sheep:
You met this spirit while asleep;
I too see wonders amidst the night,
Yet I do know they aren't right."
"No more, Dorian! This is the hour:
Our target is now Langedauer!"
"Yet just what path are we to follow?
I think this plan is very hollow."
"Cease at once the cries and chimes:
I did not ask for shallow rhymes!
Perhaps the deer did make you jelly?
Is this the mood of empty belly?"
With this he showed an angry leer:
"I do not envy the bloody deer;
But tho' there may be no such land,
I will submit to your command."
The quarrel thus came to an end:
He did not add further amend;
With pious hope and bravery blest
I did commence my holy quest.
We knew not the city's location,
And thus we sought for information;
Yet as they heard my loyal horse,
They ran as if from walking corpse.
We were about to quit the town:
Our faces declined in weary frowns;
But ere we could the source find,
A sudden voice reached from behind.
"Good man! Why lookest thou so sour?
Canst thou not find Langedauer?"
I looked at him: he was an aged folk:
His shape beneath a dusty cloak.
"By Jove! Such is indeed the case:
My path is covered in constant haze!"
"Fear not, for I shall be thy guide,
Before the night becomes our bride."
