Sam Gets on Nico's Bad Side

"He broke him." MJ said nonchalantly. She was also working on a homework assignment. It looked to be a history assignment. I looked down at my psychology assignment and suddenly didn't feel like doing it anymore.
"Hey, MJ?" She looked up at me expectantly. "Do you want to switch? I've got psychology."
She shrugged. "Sure."
I was jolted out of a chat I was having with my father in meditation one morning by alarms blaring in the tower.
"Friday, what's going on?" I fell out of bed in my effort to get to the door quickly.
"There has been a disturbance in the city not far from here." She answered. "The team is gathering on the roof to transport there. If you will go to the elevator, I can take you there."
I shrugged, trying to ignore the fact that I had fallen out of bed. "Alright, I'll be there in a minute."
"Are you alright, sir? You took a pretty big fall just now."
I was just reaching the bedroom door, already forgetting the incident and Friday decided to speak up. I froze, and hefted a defeated sigh. "Did you tell Tony?"
"I did, sir."
"What did he say?"
"He wants to know if he should bring a walker to you, and if you need—"
"Nope, nope, I'm fine. Tell him I'm fine."

"Do we have any information on what the 'distubance' was?" I asked after I flashed to the roof. I was not going to feed Tony's fire by taking forever to get to the elevator.
The floor was opening up slowly and some robots were building Tony's suit around him. Everyone else was already suited up and Luke was hanging by the short glass barrier on the edge of the roof. I went to go stand by him while I waited for an answer to by question.
"No clue," Clint said. "There's just a bunch of people running away from something on 37th. The cameras have all been taken out by something."
(AN: I will put the disclaimer here that I have no idea how the streets in NY work, I'm just throwing a random number out)
"Do you have a way to get there from here?" Steve asked. "Or do you need to go with Nat and Clint?"
"Maybe we can get him a flying pillow so he doesn't hurt himself on the way down." Tony smirked.
I glanced over to where Steve had gestured to see a sleek looking air ship rising up from the hole in the roof.
"I'll be flying it so you won't have to worry about crazy air maneuvers." Natasha said, holding a tablet in her hand.
I smirked, allowing my wings to appear and stretched them out. It had been a while since I'd had an opportunity to use them. The expressions on the others were very rewarding and I wished I'd gotten a camera for the face Tony was giving me. Steve looked like he'd seen just about everything so someone with wings wasn't going to faze him; he just shook his head and walked onto the plane.
Clint looked like he had a million questions but Natasha had rolled her eyes and grabbed his arm. Pulling him onto the plane after Steve. Luke joined them, having a hard time holding onto his composure.
Bruce was hugging a mug of coffee with his hands.
"Aren't you coming?" I asked.
"Not a code green." He said, waving. He had to raise his voice so he could be heard over the engine of the plane.
Shrugging, I turned around and leapt over the glass wall meant to warn people not to fall off the roof. Not that the glass would be able to do anything...it doesn't do a very good job of letting you know it was there.
I felt the force of the wind hit against my face and grinned. It was almost as good as flying on Blackjack. It was definitely faster than anything else I had ever used to fly. Even the plane the others had gotten on and Tony had fallen fast behind me as I pushed my wings to the limit. As I approached the street Steve had mentioned, it occurred to be that I could have just flashed there.
Oh well. This was more fun.
There was a panic of people running away from the street when I arrived. I was around the corner so I couldn't yet see what was causing it. As I got closer, I was just able to see Nico swing at one of the necks of the hydra I'd seen earlier that week.
Since I was the first one there, I made sure the two of them could handle the monster before checking the area for stray mortals. There was only one head left after the one Nico had chopped off and Leo's very large hammer was already on fire.
"Leo, would you focus for once?" Nico yelled from where he was immediately next to a neck stump.
"Yes, sorry!" Leo replied as he held his flaming hammer close to the stub to burn it off. "I thought I saw a familiar golden chicken."
"What?" Nico demanded before the other head snaked over to spat Poseidon at his two offenders. "We know a golden chicken?"
"Yeah! Percy!" Leo said as if it was the most obvious thing.
"Leo, if you call me a golden chicken one more time—" the hydra swung its last head around in surprise at my voice. I was still in the air so I could barely avoid the poison it shot my way. "Also, I can take it from here, you two head back to base before the Avengers get here."
"Oh, I did see Percy!" Leo said cheerfully, his hammer slowly dying as it hung from his hand. "What's up?"
"C'mon." Nico growled, snatching Leo's collar as he stopped off. "I'll give you the weekly report later, Perce!" He called over his shoulder.
They left and it was just me and a one headed hydra.
It eyed me warily as I landed, hissing in warning.
I pulled out Riptide and swung it in preparation. My wings stretched out to their full length, making a large wall of golden feathers. It blocked one of the exits on the street, leaving a clear spot for Natasha to land the plane on the other side.
As if on cue, the plane lowered behind the monster in the exact spot I was thinking of. Tony landed next to me, hands reaching out, already fired up.
"Remind me to get you a com-link for next time." Tony gestured to the three shouldering stumps on the hydra. "Who did that? No way you had time to take care of three of its heads already."
"Some of my people." I answered. "They were already working on it when I got here. I sent them off so we could get some practice together. Only one head should be fine."
"So how do you fight a hydra?" Steve asked.
"You should know, Rogers, you fought them before, right?" Luke called over with a big grin.
The hydra had been eyeing us all as everyone showed up and backed itself against a building. Luke, Steve, Natasha, and Clint had exited the plane as soon as it got close enough to the ground and were closing in on it.
"Luke," I started 'You left Nico in charge?' I asked in his mind. "You lead Clint, Nat, and Steve in distracting it and Tony and I will cut and burn, alright?"
"What else did you expect me to do?" Luke grumbled before turning to his assigned Avengers. "Steve, Natasha, you go from the left, Clint and I will go from the right."
'You know he hates being in charge, you should have picked Sam.' "Tony, I want you to be ready to cauterize the stub, alright? I'm going to chop it off."
Tony's hand blasters fired up again. "On it."
"He wanted a chance to lead!" Luke shouted over the hydra, effectively distracting it so its eyes were no longer on me.
I started running—with Tony right next to me—and swung Riptide. The neck pulled a Sir Nicholas and didn't decapitate all the way. Tony was able to finish it off though, and the monster burst into gold dust.
"Luke, tell me the truth." I said flatly as the gold cloud settled.
"Okay, fine! Sam said he needed a break from leading and insisted that Nico needed a chance to put himself out there!"
"Huh?" Clint said. "What are you two talking about?"
"Nothing." Luke and I said at the same time.
"Hey, guys, what'd I miss?" Everyone turned to see Spider-Man swing down from the building.
"Spider-Man, you're late." Tony said, folding his arms across his chest.
"Sorry, sir." He started. "My aunt wouldn't let me leave without breakfast."
"Dude, leave that second part out next time." Luke said, facepalming.

Later that night, I was meditating into Nico's dreams.
"Nico, what happened with that hydra? I thought it would have been taken out days ago." I said.
"Hello, to you too." He grumbled. "It took us a while to track it down because it seemed to figure out we were on its tail. It did everything it could to hide its tracks. We'd just barely caught up to it when you found us."
I nodded in response. "And Luke leaving you in charge?"
"What about it?" He said darkly.
"I can get Sam to take over if you really don't want to do this."
"No, it's become a challenge now." Nico cracked his fingers. "He's gonna regret this."
Chills ran up my spine and I almost left his dreams immediately. "Okay then. Good luck."
"I won't need luck. Sam will."
Alright, I'm out. Let Sam deal with that.
