Day 4 (Part 4)
Larkwing perked his ears after the announcement. His blood lust had worn off, but he still breathed heavily. He gathered his sword and began heading to the Cornicopia. Suddenly the downpour of rain stopped. Larkwing sighed relieved he wasn't soaking his pelt anymore. As he walked he began to question his motives. If it wasn't for the capital he'd never kill any of the cats he'd killed, but some tick of blood lust overruled him. He began to wonder if it was because the humans genetically enhanced them and it struck some urge for blood in the cats.
Around Larkwing the sun began to beat down on the land harsh. Any water or water soaked plants began to dry quickly, so much they all began to wilt. The grass seemed to die in heartbeats and the mud from under Larkwings paws turned into a burning hot dirt. Suddenly Larkwings paws began to burn each step he took on the sand like dirt. He hissed under his breath looking around knowing there were cameras watching.
Larkwing kept walking ignoring the burning sensation in his paw pads. It was just like the game makers to brutally change the enviornment. He had one goal and one goal only to get to the Cornicopia, kill the others and win.
Ravenpaw tried his best to follow the tracks Shadowfur and him had made, but the pouring rain had slugged away any sight of paw tracks the two had made. Ravenpaw lifted his nose and tried to scent the way they had come through the rain. Suddenly the rain paused and the sun shined in the sky. Any sign of clouds had gone in an instant and birds sang in the trees. Yet they only sang for a heartbeat before they disappeared and the ground from under started to change from a muggy mud to a harsh dirt.
Quickly the young apprentice looked around for any sign of berried knowing he had to grab whatever he could find before the heat made everything wilt. He spotted a group of bright red berries that looked ripe enough so Ravenpaw sprinted and tore off a branch. The heat burned so bad under his paws that he curled up under the berry bush in the relief of the shade he counted how many berries there were. He had about five berries, Ravenpaw sighed in satisfaction as he watched the other berries begin to prune under the heat.
Ravenpaw looked around at his surroundings suddenly worried for Shadowfur who would need some of the berries too for her own strength. Especially since the climate had changed so drastically. So Ravenpaw picked up the branch in his mouth one of his teeth had penetrated one of the berries making its juices slip down into Ravenpaws mouth. His jaws watered, but he held himself back and looked for the nearest shadow to run to so he wouldn't burn his paws.
Once Ravenpaw spotted a tree with a large amount of and under it he began to scurry over. About halfway through the burning dirt Ravenpaw felt his head dizzy. There was a pang of a growing ache in his stomach. Suddenly Ravenpaw felt his body jerk in uncontrollable jerks, he fell to the burning ground, but Ravenpaw felt nothing. The sun got even brighter until all was white.
Ravenpaw turned in circles in the pure white world of nothing. The ache from his stomach was gone and the burning heat of the sun had faded away. In a blurry haze Ravenpaw saw a long waterfall appeared glowing in front of Ravenpaw. Behind him deep green evergreens appeared. The apprentice began to think the gamemakers had just made a glitch by turning everything into a desert.
Ravenpaw sighed in relief and began drinking the water when all of the sudden another cat splashed into the water in the distance. Ravenpaw looked closer and noticed the small white and gray pelt of Silverpaw. Another cat joined her a sandy brown tom barreled into her as the played in the paw deep water.
The apprentice felt the presence of another cat right behind him he turned around to see Cloudfern. Other tributes stood at her flank like Shadestripe, Dawnflower and Cardinalpelt. They all opened their jaws and said in unity, "Welcome to Starclan Ravenpaw."
BOOM!
Shadowfur's heart dropped at the sound of the canon. She had stayed perched in the tree during the climate change, unfazed by all of it.
"Ra-" Shadowfur stopped herself from yowling and leaped from the tree. Her paws hit the hot dirt ground but she ignored it racing to where the young apprentice took off. Her heart told her the canon was for Ravenpaw, but her mind couldn't believe it. And if it was she'd finish off the fox dung cat who killed him.
She raced farther and farther across the blazing ground until she skirted almost past the black pelt of Ravenpaw. She choked out a cry, because he had been so unrecognizable to her. Shadowfur lifted her nose to scent out any other cats nearby, but surprisingly found no fresh scents.
The she-cat looked down at the dead apprentice and recognized bright red berries near his jaw. She stepped closer taking a wiff. Death berries. She was so stupid to ask him to look for berries, she should of known the gamemakers would throw in death berries just to trick up the tom.
Shadowfur buried her head into the apprentices small chest for several heartbeats then turned and headed back to the cornicopia what ever cat that was left would be there too. She had to finish one way or the other.
The suns scorched the land even as it was preparing to set. Shadowfur stood tall as she trekked her way back to the Cornicopia wondering if she was about to die or live and if she died would Starclan take her?
Larkwing had nestled in the cave of the Cornicopia. His gray pelt mixed perfectly with the metallic color of the Cornicopia. When he had arrived to the clearing he scented the outskirts only finding two somewhat fresh scents. One had been Ravenpaw, that pesky apprentice that ran off with Silverpaw and another unknown scent. Once Larkwing had done his math he knew that Silverpaw death had been the cause of one of the canons. Larkwing had only took a heartbeat to mourn before his bloodlust returned.
The district two tom had stalked away towards the line of supply bags. The three districts of Two Six and Eight were labled on the rabbit sized bags. However Larkwing ignored this and padded past into the bed of the Cornicopia, as deep as he could go and turned around curling in on all fours with his sword tucked under him waiting for the mystery cat to come claim her bag.
