Day 3 (Part 3)

Cardinalpelt raced away from the clearing as fast as he could. His bag of grenades empty except for one last grenade. He hadn't heard any canons go off over the sound of the explosions and was beginning to feel he had made a mistake when...

BOOM!

A canon sounded off in the distance. Cardinalpelt sighed in relief. At least he had gotten one. All he knew was that when there werent too many players the game makers would force all the tributes together and that's how he'd find Dawnflower.

He didn't care if he went to the Dark Forest. If there was one thing he wanted to do before he died was kill Dawnflower. Ever since he found out she told on his older brothers and their friends for sneaking out past curfew which led to them all being publicly executed, he wanted her dead. He knew she had feelings for him and used that as his advantage. At a time before he was falling in love with her but when their "officers" started taking away and killing their livestock to find out who's been out past curfew Dawnflower broke and told them every thing.

Dumb she-cat.

Tiger ran through the woods. Her paw still stung from where Shadowfur had stabbed it. Suddenly the ground shook from under her and an sounded off.

Tiger lowered herself to the ground and looked around wondering where the explosions were coming from.

In the distance she saw a brown furred tom doing the same and reached for her dagger. Tiger crept closer until she stooddownwind and behind the tom. She lifted her dagger as the tom turned around and stabbed him killing him instantly.

Sparrowtail gasped feeling a tight pain. He squeezed his eyes closed. The sound of explosions disapearred and he opened his eyes to see several of the other tributes who had made it to Starclan playing in a beautiful field. A calico cat Sparrowpelt had never seen trotted forward to him.

"Welcome to Starclan, there will be more soon to join you who have defended lives instead of killing." The she cat purred.

"Is Stonepelt here?" Sparrowpelt asked.

"She chose her path when she wounded Goosepaw with intentions to kill." The beautiful she cat looked down and shook her head.

Above Shadowfur the sun was halfway through the sky. The multiple explosions above had scared Shadowfur away from the Dreaders clearing.

Some other cat had beated her to them. Inside Shadowfur felt a bit of relief. She was beginning to doubt killing Tiger and Shrewtail. Her brother always said that any cat who killed another went to the Dark Forest, but this was the Hunger Games and you either killed or got killed.

The capital was cheating all of them out of a place in Starclan. It wasn't fair. Shadowfur wouldn't be able to seek revenge for Shadestripe, but then why did his mother send her a net?

Shadowfur shook her head. She headed away until she made her way to a rock slide. She looked and debated about going up or around, wondering if the rocks would be able to hold her. Thats when she heard a low meow coming from inside the rocks. Shadowfur jumped back worried if it was one of the Dreaders.

"Amberrain?" The cat called.

Shadowfur tilted her head curious. She crept closer to the sound until she walked around the whole rock slide and couldn't find any cat. She began to think it was a trap when the cats meow came again but louder.

"Amberrain!"

Shadowfur spun around and spotted a hole where the meow was coming from. She lowered her body and crept closer to it. The meowing stopped, but Shadowfur could still smell the other cats scent heavily from the hole.

Suddenly a paw came out and grabbed Shadowfur by the ear. Shadowfur shrieked and winced. Having her ear pierced with a claw combined with being beaten and thrown around by Tiger was not mixing well with Shadowfur.

"Where's Amberrain," The cat hissed, but an insecure hiss. It definitely was a shecat.

"I don't know I haven't seen her!" Shadowfur yanked away pushing against the rock and flew back into a huge boulder. Suddenly the ground started to shake under Shadowfur. Shadowfur looked up to see two cats at the very top of the rock hill she recognized one as Shrewtail. Then suddenly the rocks before the two cats began to fall down towards Shadowfur.

Shadowfur gasped and lunged back to the hole and tried to move the boulder over the other cat. She turned around and saw a huge rock barreling towards her. Shadowfur felt uneasy before jumping out of the way.

BOOM!

A canon went off. Shadowfur looked back up to where the two cats had been only to find them gone. She quickly raced back to the woods jumping into the trees. Behind her she could hear a screech of anger. She might of not killed Shrewtail, but she seemed to anger the Dreaders.

Tigerslash fell into the dark abyss after feeling every bone in her body crunch under the boulder. She landed in the dark forest. Another cat approached her but she ignored it staring at the ground in anger. She hated the capital.

Once Shadowfur got a safe distance away she stopped and caught her breath. She looked down and realized there was another cat below her with a ginger pelt. Tiger.

Shadowfur quickly got the net Shadestripes mother brought her and dropped it on top of Tiger without thinking. She paused after it fell onto Tiger remembering if she killed the other she-cat she'd go to the Dark Forest.

Below Tiger thrashed in the net reaching for her dagger she reached up to cut the net when she felt another cats body land on top of her.

"Amberrain?!" Tiger gasped.

"You killed Tigerslash and lost our supply of food she had!" Amberrain hissed lashing her tail. "Don't worry I'll make it easy for you Shrewtail said you're expecting kits. Too bad you'll never meet them or see Huskyfang again after you killed Shadestripe." The other she cat sneered and pierced her sword into Tigers head.

Tiger barely had time to respond until she felt her body thrown into a dark misted sky. Tiger felt a hard pain in her stomach and 3 tiny starry kittens running through the air to a bright white spot in the sky. Tiger reached for them barely missing the last blue starry kittens tail.

"My kits!" She croaked. As she watched them she saw a larger figure standing in the center of the light.

The bright blue eyes told Tiger it was Huskyfang. He wrapped all three kits around his tail and nodded to Tiger.

Tiger pushed her body to go up closer to Huskyfang but she fell faster losing sight of Huskyfang and their kits. She plummeted to the ground and attacked the cat who came to her. The other cat only chuckled with a devilish grin.

"You belong here." The other cat meowed.

Shadowfur held her breath as Amberrain ended Tiger. She went to jump to another branch but it collapsed from under her. Shadowfur gasped as her and the branch fell landing straight onto Amberrain.

BOMB!

Shadowfur winced and looked around into the woods for any other cat. She stepped away from the two dead she cats pacing. Shadowfur killed another cat but not meaningly, she'd go to the Dark Forest. Shadowfur put her paws to her head shaking until she heard voices.

"Amberrain! Amberrain!"

Shadowfur looked down to the two. It was all her fault both their deaths. She didn't care more about revenge it was all wrong. She raced away then made her way into the trees. The games sucked.

Dawnflower padded down a trail. She paused scenting two cats, younger cats. They probably had been running from the explosions that occured earlier that morning. Dawnflower lifted her nose to see where they had gone when a body tumbled into hers. Dawnflower gasped but the other cat placed his paw over her muzzle.

Dawnflower opened her eyes to see a recognizable pair of yellow eyes staring straight back at her.

"Cardinalpelt?" She meowed surprised.

Cardinalpelt looked down at her excitement in his eyes.  Dawnflower jumped up wrapping her paws around his neck and he did to.

"You're alive," she gasped.

Cardinalpelt sat back down and stared at Dawnflower. His excitement faded to unsureness.

Cardinalpelt looked at Dawnflower, really looked at her, for the first time. Dawnflower beautiful Calico pelt seemed to sparkle in the sun and her white paws stood out against the dirt. He fell to his stomach.

How could he have ever thought of killing the she-cat. Was he mad? Was the Dark Forest calling for him? If so he couldn't here it now.

Memories flooded back to Cardinalpelt. Him and Dawnflower as apprentices trading food their families need and playing together in class even though the teacher warned them not to. He remembered when his brothers began sneaking out past curfew to partake in secret parties. He remembered the first day one of his brothers friends was caught and executed for being out past curfew. Everyday they took something from Dawnflowers family since they were one of the most poor households. Dawnflower stopped showing up to school. Then her younger brother and sister did too. Cardinalpelt had told Dawnflower it was his brothers who snuck out. He remembered the day Dawnflowers younger sister was given only hours left to live. That day Dawnflower went to the authorities and told them. Her family was granted two goats and two cows that year. He remembered how he found out it was her when she came back to school no one sat around her nor talked to her. He remembered her and her siblings being bullied by kits and older warriors. Even Elders denied Dawnflowers family any assistance. He remembered Dawnflowers color beginning to fade every time he ignored her and he remembered...loving her.

"Cardinalpelt?" The she-cat stood before him concerned.

"Oh Dawnflower! I'm so sorry! It wasn't your fault!" Cardinalpelt rolled playfully onto her wrapping her in his paws.

Silverpaw and Ravenpaw curled up together as the stars began to shine in the dark blue sky.

"Do you think one of us will make it?" Silverpaw asked Ravenpaw.

That dark apprentice didn't respond he just stared into the sky. Silverpaw sighed and laid her chin on Ravenpaws shoulder looking up watching the tributes who had passed that day shine in the sky.

Ravenpaw looked up to the sky to see Cloudferns white face shining. He looked down and paid his respect almost releasing a whimper for his fellow kind-hearted district player. Suddenly it started to pour. Rain hit so hard it flew up into Ravenpaws face. He curled closer to Silverpaw hiding his face in her stomach. He knew they wouldn't last long. But at least they'd b=make it to starclan.
