Day 3 (Part 1)
Snowfrost woke to the sound of running water. Without opening her eyes she stretched her body out. A wet sensation snapped at Snowfrost hind paws. Snowfrost yanked away quickly and her eyes shot open. Water was filling the Cornicopia and fast. She looked over to where the Terrors had camped to find every cat gone. In the haze of the sunrise Snowfrost could make out the four figures hauling huge bags of supplies.
"Berry-" Snowfrost shout was downed out by a huge explosion of water hailing out of the fountain that had been on the Terrors side.
Snowfrost felt waves wash her down and flip her every which way as if she was in the ocean. She screamed but only took in water by doing so.
Badgerstrike was torn awake from his dream by water entrapping him. Badgerstrike immediately began to panic kicking and splashing trying to find a way up he was suffocating. Being in panic had made him begin to hypervenolate and his lungs were suffocating for it. Suddenly there was a pair of teeth yanking on his neck pulling him out of the water. AIR! Badgerstrike breathed in as much as he could and tilted his head to see Berrytufts familiar white pelt.
Badgerstrike felt as if Berrytuft was pulling him for foxlengths until they reached dry land. They were still in sand. The tree line was a bit of ways away and Badgerstrike could see Owleye's pelt racing to the treeline.
"Follow him! The waters still rising Snowforst is trapped under the cornicopia I have to get her now RUN!" Berrytuft ordered before diving back into the water.
In the far distance Lilytoad heard screams and screeches. She turned around to Starlingmask who was still sleeping under the shade of the trees. It was from the cornicopia most likely. Lilytoad shivered and shook her head, she couldn't stand the sound of the screams. Slowly Lilytoad entered the lake and dove under. Her brother had taught her to swim, well that is in a tub since he wouldn't take her beyond the fences. But nonetheless she was a good swimmer and recently tried catching fish with no luck.
Lilytoad came up for air then dove back in. The light from the sunrise illuminated the deep blue lake into a crystal blue. Lilytoad spotted a little minnow the size of her paw but she still swam after it, kicking her legs as hard as she could to catch up. However her need for air brought her back to the surface.
"No no! Please no theres another tribute here! Kill her let me go please! She's useless I can help I have a lot to offer." Starlingmasks shaky voice spoke.
Lilytoad spun her head around to the place where she saw Starlingmasks sleeping body last to find a fluffy brown tom standing over Starlingmask with a dagger pointed at his neck.
"Sorry buddy. You're one less tribute to worry about," The brown tom sneered.
The sound that came next was like a knife cutting a dead chicken followed by gurgling spurts of blood. Lilytoad forced herself back under the water. The brown tom hadn't seen her but how many more were with him. Starlingmask had lied to her he'd used her. She wasn't safe her death was probably only heartbeats away. Starclan help me.
Mousesnarl could feel the clap of a wave on her hind paws before the water overtook her. The last thing she could see was Hailscar and Barbwire going down as well. Barbwires screams were covered by the gurgling of water and Mousensarl also found herself shouting out in fear. After the initial wave Mousesnarl kicked her hind paws up to the surface with a struggle. The weight of the two supply bags heavy on her shoulders, dragging her down almost. She saw Barbwires head bobbing far off and Ripplenewts body at the edge of the treeline holding his hand out for Barbwires.
Where was Hailscar? Mousesnarl turned her body around in a total three sixty but there was nothing. Come on Hailscar! Mousesnarl thought.
BOOM!
Mousesnarls hissed under her breath. That had to be one of the Dreaders. She wasn't going to give up! Mousesnarl forced her face under the water to look but fund nothing not even a bag or body.
"Mousesnarl!" Ripplenewt shouted from the tree line where the water had decided to stop.
That repulsive tom! How dare Hailscar be so weak and die by drowning to leave her to deal with him. But Mousesnarl knew she needed the protection. She began to swim over to the two.
Wonderingwind began to follow Stormthistles scent. He needed to apologize to her. He realized that was the only way to get her to listen. After all night of tracking he could see the familiar brown pelt of Stormthistle in the distance.
"Stormthistle!" He called until something whacked him upside the head causing him to fall to the ground in agonizing pain.
Stormthistle looked up from the mouse she was eating to see three Terrors standing over Wonderingwinds limp body laughing. Stormthistle immediately ducked under the cover of bushes nearby. A bomb hadn't gone off yet. Wonderingwind was still alive.
"Don't use your timberbees Storm. Don't use them," Stormthistle mumbled to herself.
Yet she was already yanking them out of her bag with the slingshot and began to set her aim.
Wonderingwind had almost thrown her bag away and wasn't rational. However, she couldn't sit and watch these Terrors kill him slowly like this.
She shot.
"What the?" A she-cats voice shouted as the Timberbee barely almost grazed her. The tom that was with the two she-cats picked up the Timberbee.
Another shot.
"Timberbees! Run!" The tom called.
All three terrors began to run. Running right towards her! Stormthistle rolled deeper into the hedges she was hiding behind. The crackling of branches and leaves cracking as the three ran past her.
Stormthistle rose to her hind paws quickly and raced over to Wonderingwinds limb body. She picked up his head and craddled his head in her lap. His midnight blue eyes looked up to hers and she could see the regret in them.
"Storm...thistle...you were...you were right," the tom gasped out.
"Shh-shh. Wonderingwind." Stormthistle could feel the tears trickling out of her eyes. What was she supposed to say?
"No...You...run!" Wonderingwind suddenly tried to shout, pushing her away with every effort he had.
Stormthistle followed his gaze to find a single she-cat returning. A timberbee in hand and a spear. With heart racing Stormthistle tried her best to gently lay Wonderingwinds head to the ground but she was shaking so bad.
"Think it's funny to toss these around like a toy?" the she-cat, Mousesnarl, snarled.
Stormthistle barely got to he hindpaws before Mousesnarl grabbed her by the ground and yanked her back down to the ground. Tears still burning in her eyes Stormthistle closed her eyes wishing she could be anywhere else in this moment stinger penetrated her forearm shocking her body.
Her gaze was frozen on Wonderingwinds body snow began to fall from the sky in weightless drifts wrapping in little wind spirals. Mousesnarl drove her dagger into Wonderingwinds head.
BOOM!
Berrytuft struggled through the waves. The temperature dropping with each paddle. The game makers were changing the climate.
"Snowfrost!" Berrytuft called out.
The cornicopia was almost engulped by the water. Berrytuft pushed himself under the waves feeling his body begin to shake from the extreme cold. He made his way into the entrance of the cornicopia and up into the little airpocket where Snowfrost was fighting with all her might to keep a float.
"I-I...I did what you said. K-kicking my hind paws," Snowfrost's teeth chattered tremendously. The she-cat had clearly reached her limit where she could barely fight no more.
"Don't worry I'm here. I'm going to get you out. Just get ready hold your breath." Berrytuft instructed grabbing onto the fold of her now ice cold neck. He had to get her out and fast.
Once Berrytuft heard her breath in he pushed back under the water yanking her along with him and began to swim back out of the air bubble and back into the open arena. Once he resurfaced he realized the water had outstretched farther out. He could barely see the speck that was Badgerstrike.
Dear Starclan, Berrytuft thought. He pushed his legs harder than he'd ever had trying to get Snowfrost out of the water. It was beginning to get exhausting and he could begin to feel Snowfrost go limp. He paused and shook her side to side in his grip until he could feel her coming back. Just a little more.
Berrytuft had made it more than half way when he could hear something crackling. Berrytuft froze. He knew that sound. The water was beginning to freeze. He paddled like mad but was barely getting anywhere.
"Let me go." Snowfrost rasped. Her voice sounded like an elders at how exhausted she was.
"We can make it." Berrytuft mumbled around her fur and kept pushing.
"I'm weighing you down...I won't make it...Let g-go." The she-cat trembled.
Berrytuft ignored her and pushed himself. Closer Closer. Berrytuft could feel icicles form on his whiskers. Suddenly he felt a kick in his stomach. He immediately yowled in pain releasing Snowfrost.
"Go." Snowfrosts whisper was gurgled by the water engulfing over her as the deep blue water dragged her down and down.
"Snowfrost!" Berrytuft dove under to grab her but the current pushed and pulled him every which way for what seemed like forever.
Berrytufts lungs couldn't take it anymore. He pushed his hind paws up and up until.
THUNK!
Berrytufts head hit against ice. No! Berrytuft reached his forepaws up to push and hit but he was so exhausted his efforts were hopeless. Berrytuft turned his head around to look down. His eyes opened to see a fluffy white pelt slowly floating upwards like a deadweight. Snowfrost!
SMASH!
A whole fore arm wrapped around Berrytuft pulling him up and out. Air! Berrytuft breathed in the air savoring the sweetness that it was. However his lungs stung from the cold.
"Snowfrost! She's still down there!" Berrytuft immediately remembered.
"Berrytuft the bomb...she's gone..." It was Badgerstrike who spoke. Berrytuft hadn't cared to look at his rescuer.
"No! She's not I saw her! She can't be." Berrytuft almost dove back in, but Badgerstrike grabbed his forearm.
"Berrytuft a snowstorms coming in if you don't warm up... you'll die." Badgerstrike spoke with a shiver.
Berrytuft looked back into the now black water and then up to the sky that was now heavily pouring out snow. Berrytuft couldn't help but realize the chill that was running through him. He turned back to the ice and stuck his nose to it closing his eyes.
"May you have a safe journey Snowfrost."
