The sky was soaked in red.
The sun had fallen behind the mountain though, the clouds reflect the last rays of sunlight

until.......everything but the stars,is covered in complete darkness......

I have a bad feeling
about this.............

"The perimeter check was successful my Queen."says Felix "Were there any casualties?" I ask,"No ma'am none at all.
Ross walked up to me a while ago and asked if we may hunt for some food for the pups your Grace ,there's a herd of elk not far from the stream." "Very well let's get into our barrigs position." "I shall notify the others then." I turn into my bear form and get ready. Felix runs point of the pack while I wait for the herd to be pushed towards me.

(Every wolf has a purpose in a barrigs. There's the normal wolves who round up the herds of animals. Then there are the runners who pick out a straggler and try to separate it from its herd,and then there's me I take down and give the finishing blow to any animal we hunt.)

Felix gives the signal which sends all the elk stampeding my way. I get on all fours and start to charge the herd head on. I can see the weak elk but he doesn't seem weak at all. In fact he's a little bigger than me, but I don't care.

I can feel the earth fall apart as I zero in on this massive elk bull. He sees me charging at him but doesn't back down
and you know what

neither did I.

And before I knew it I've been impaled by his antlers. Blood pours out like a broken sprinkler from my wound. I quickly push off and get some distance between us. By the time my claws hit the ground the wound already healed.
He hooves the ground then we start charging towards each other.

In a split second I'm on his back digging my claws deep into his throat ,but he still doesn't stop fighting me. He bucks and kicks ,my grip on him loosens I start to slip but..... my thoughts go to the pups....they haven't eaten a good meal all winter they need this food I snap out of it tighten my grip then go for the life pumping vein.

In that instant I'm hammered into the ground by the full force of the elk. I squirm out from under him and turn back into a wolf then look into his dark brown eyes.....

"I thank you, for, your meat will sustain not only me but my entire pack..... I hope you find your way to your constellation.

My voice becomes soft and down to a whisper. Thank you...... none of your meat will be wasted....

I'll bury your bones and send you off I promise."

His eyes hold to my stare and never let go,but then he spoke his last words....

I look into the cold blue eyes of death, her claws covered in my blood...

"Thank you, you put on one hell of a fight,the best one I've had in years I'm old and I knew, it was my time so it is you I must thank,for making me go out in style."

With that the light in his eyes vanished.....
I hear Felix run up to me. "MY QUEEN."
"Hey Felix did you see me take this guy down."
"Yes but,"
"And how I ripped his throat open" "yes but...
"And how the blood gushed out" "LILY!" What?" "That wasn't the weak elk." "If that wasn't the weak elk then who....."
"Don't worry, I took care of the finishing blow. The others are waiting for you to eat and...."

"There's no need for that, it's your kill so you eat first."

"But!"

"No buts go eat while I drag this elk carcass over."

He gives me a sly grin and says,"You did look awesome when you were on top of this big guy." Then turns and runs to the pack and eats. When everyone's bellies were full we walked back to the camp then I got to thinking ,man......
I love my family. We stick together ,we hunt together ,we laugh and cry together ,and most of all ,we fight together. What more can a leader ask for. Of course the pups can't hunt or howl yet but later on tonight when the moon is full.

It's when I get halfway to the meadow a mile away from the camp.......

I smell blood.

And not just any blood......

Tiger lily blood.....

I can feel Felix tensing up next to me, he smells it too the whole pack smells it.

No time is wasted. Everyone's sprinting with lightning speed ,only to arrive at

the massacre........

Pelts of elders, mothers, and pups are scattered amongst the trees. Blood trickles on the ground.

I go up to some of the bodies. I can see that they didn't go down easy.......

"Felix Ross, see if there's any survivors"
they obey with a sense of doubt

I look around to see if I know any of them but the bodies that I once saw filled with movement and joy are replaced by soulless hollow shells that I can no longer recognize........
A three starts to fall but then I realize it's not a tree it's one of Felix's daughters
Out of nowhere Felix leaps from behind me and catches her before she hits the ground. His face is filled with anger and regrets. "Who did this to you?" Felix says in a tender but firm tone. "Father..... I've been poisoned...."
Adriana....who did this to you..... The queen of the sea walked up and attacked us from behind....the elders fought fiercely but were no match for her...I had no choice but to hide as a tree but she sprayed a poisonous mist over the camp.....just....t-t-to take care o-f any survivors...i-t-t worked."

"N-n-no look at me Adriana it's gonna be fine."

"I'm bleeding from the inside out there's
noth-th-ing we can
d-do pa-pa........

I l-l-o-v-e

y-o-u......." There was a long pause.

Adriana....Adriana... he nuzzles her cheek but her head falls limply...

He looks up at the sky. The moon is almost at its highest point in the sky
His eyes swell up with tears..... then he starts to howl, but this time it's not a soft melodious note...no... it's loud and filled with his mixed emotions.
I walked up beside him and howled along with him, not from sympathy but from empathy. I lost one third of my family in one day while he...
he not only lost but watched the last of his family die in five long minutes.

The rest of the pack join with our howls

All the sadness

All the tears

All the anger

Swells up in the air and turn the clouds black. Like a base drum thunder joins in our orchestra of pain.

In the midst of this
is when I lose control........

Well you guys it's the end of a very long chapter I'm very sorry for the wait hope it was worth it though
