Peter's POV: Chapter 18
Flotsam and Jetsam were gone, but Max was still a problem. We rushed towards him, as he tried to take a straight path to Ariels grotto, that would send him into the water, redirecting him just in time. "I have to get the treasure! Stop slowing me down!" Max yelled, as Pearl and Annetta grabbed onto him, in an effort to slow him down long enough to reason with him.
"I've had just about enough of this treasure nonsense!" The girl in the cloak- Audrey, I think I heard Annetta call her- grumbled, annoyed. Max broke free of the girls, managing to punch Annetta in the face in the process. "That's it!" Audrey yelled, storming over to Max, and punching him in the face, hard. Jack burst out laughing. The force of the impact caused Max to topple backwards, but as he fell, he attempted to grab Audrey's cloak to stop the fall. The cloak, already frayed at the seams, was ripped from around Audrey and went down with Max. Max hit his head, causing a cloud of golden dust to fly up, and knocking him unconscious. When we inhaled the dust we all began to cough. When the dust finally dissipated, and the coughing subsided, the ground was coated with shimmering gold dust. Jacklin swiped up some dust into her index finger, and sniffed it.
"Jimmy Goose's. A whole bags worth from the looks of it. If you use too much, it can sometimes cause changes in personality, and weird actions. It's not permanent though. A few more minutes and he woulda been fine."
"That's just great!" Audrey laughed ironically. "He's fine, but my cloak is ruined!" I looked over and to my surprise she was georgous. Her hair hair was wild, but that could be expected, considering the circumstance, and it still looked crazy hot. She had peircing brown eyes, and big lips. Her skin was mocha, her completion perfect save for a singular, albeit large scar. Her frilly blue dress, which had been protected by the cloak, and was perfectly clean, didn't suit her at all. Pearl smirked, and moved closer to me.
"Close your mouth Peter. You'll catch flys." Her voice had a mean undertone, but I complied.
"Stop staring at me! I know the scar is ugly! Don't rub it in!" I immediately looked army feet, realizing I was the only one staring. Audrey started back to the cave, as Max regained consciousness.
"What happened?" He groaned.
"Do you mean how you got knocked out by a girl, or how you got out here?" Jack asked, his tone implying an insult.
"Watch your mouth, or you'll get knocked out by a girl too." Jacklin replied, annoyed by Jack's implication, of male superiority.
"Uhhhh... Both?" Max asked, touching his jaw, and wincing.
"Come on. Let's go back to the base, and we'll tell you everything." Pearl said, offering her hand to pull Max up. Max's eyes widened a little.
"We're following her, to her base?" He asked, pulling himself up on his own, and leaning on a pole. Pearl looked hurt.
"You can't pretend I'm not here! We have a bond, Maxy!" Pearl cried, forcing tears. I could tell when she was really crying.
"Stop fake crying Pearl. It reveals your inner- what was it you called me, dipstick? Besides. You're an ugly cryer. I respond, annoyed. Pearl gasped and began to cry for real.
"I'm not an ugly anything!" She choked out between sobs.
"Didn't you used to be..." Max trailed off looking for a nice way of phrasing his comment.
"I dipstick?" I finish, grinning. Max nodded sheepishly. "It was an act. I'm actually quite intelligent."
"An act! Why?" Max questioned, shocked.
"It's complicated."
"Here. Lean on me. I'll help you to the base. It's not Pearl's. It's mine." Max leaned on Annetta's shoulder, appreciatively, and our group slowly make's it's way back to grizzly peak. When we finally reached the top, the literal stitch in my side was aching. I plopped down on the stone floor. Annetta picked up the ropes, and headed towards my tear stained sister. Pearl sighed.
"I'll let you use my hairbrush if you don't tie me up." Annetta shrugged and looked at Audrey.
"I doubt it'll do much good on my hair, but I don't care if you tie her up or not." Annetta recoiled the rope, and held out her hand. Pearl pulled the hairbrush out of her purse, and handed it the her begrudgingly.
"A word of advice. A bad brush is better than unwanted dreadlocks." Pearl said, looking at Audrey's messy hair.
"I won't get dreadlocks just cause- you know what, never mind."
"I'm still hazy about everyone's names. If we are gonna save the world together, we have to know each other right?" Annetta asked, as she struggled to pull the brush through her matted hair.
"So?" Pearl responded.
"Let's go around and Say our names, and... Favorite Disney character!" Annetta responded, in a lame attempt to bring the already quickly separating group together. I respected her for it though.
"I'm Annetta Pearson. My favorite Disney character is Pongo."
"Max Waters. I used to like Ursula, but the turn of events has made me favor Scuttle."
"Pearl Disney. Yes, yes, you probably know my father. Bowing and scraping would be appropriate." Nobody moved, and my sister scowled. "Whatever. My favorite Disney character, is Sleeping Beauty, 'cause she is a less beautiful version of myself." Audrey heaved a sigh and rolled her dark chocolate eyes.
"Are we really putting up with her?" Nobody wanted to sentence my sister to death, but nobody wanted to disagree with the idea either. Annetta suddenly devoted her full attention to brushing her hair, Max found his shoes to be very interesting. Jack got distracted by the beautiful sunset, hours in the future, Jacklin turned her back, and whistled nonchalantly, and I found a crack in the cave wall to be worthy of my undivided attention. Pearl cleared her throat loudly.
"Kill me if you will, but there's a whole lot more villians than there are us. Like it, or not, I'm an extremely valuable asset to the team. Everyone shrugged, and murmured indicicivly.
Finally Annetta said, "We'd never kill you. This is a no kill team. If we kill that brings us down to their murderous level." Audrey flinched, and I presumed it was at the thought of being a murderer. "Leaving you alone and weapon less with those cartoons is a whole nother story though." Pearl huffed and turned her back on us.
"Goldberg. Jack Goldberg. My favorite Disney character is... Uhhh... I don't have one anymore.." Jacklin giggled.
"The Cheshire Cat was your favorite wasn't he?"
"No! He's a pink and purple cat! I'm way cooler than that! I like... That monster guy from the last song in Fantasia!" Jacklin rolled her eyes. I could tell he was lying from the sudden change in his tone of voice.
"Well I like the catterpillar. Sometimes he lets me smoke a little. It's not actually smoking or anything though. It's just a bubblegum flavored fog machine." We all laughed a little at the absurdity of smoking a fog machine.
"I'm Audrey. P- Banks. I like Lucifer. The cat. Not the devil." Since everyone else had already chimed in, I guessed it was my turn.
"My name is Peter Disney. I like Doc. He's the smartest dwarf."
"If you picked Doc because he was the smartest Dwarf, why didn't you just pick the smartest Disney character?" Audrey asked sarcastically. I could tell she didn't really care, so I gave a polite laugh, and shrugged.
