Damn (In Between Episodes)
So, I know I originally made Logan Lerman Zane, but now he's Jack because reasons.
Melanie's POV
I took a deep breath as we stood in front of Amber's house. I lifted my fist to knock, but I couldn't do it.
I just couldn't.
"You ok?" Asked Laurence, tilting his head. I gave him a weak smile.
"Y-Yeah. I'm ok." I tried to assure him.
It sounded more like I was trying to assure myself.
I put my hand down, and placed my face in both of my hands.
"I have a complicated relationship with this specific person." I explained. Laurence nudged my shoulder.
"You know, I have a thought you might have feelings for this guy." Laurence said, his peircing blue eyes connecting with mine. I huffed a breath.
You have no idea.
"Um, kinda? It's a long story..." I said. Laurence took the hint that I didn't want to talk about it.
"Maybe I shouldn't talk to him." I sighed. Laurence gave me an evil smile.
"What?" I asked.
In the blink of an eye, Laurence was able to knock on the door and hide behind me, along with lifting my hand into a position so it looked like I did it.
"LAURENCE--?!"
"Melanie!" I looked up and saw a familiar set of teal eyes.
"Hi Amber!" I said, cringing inside from the horrible guilt of not seeing her in a while. She pulled me into a hug.
"Nice to know you're not a dark pulp yet!" She whispered into my ear.
Not yet.
I thought you left me alone for once.
Nope. Remember, you don't have to make Laurence remember anything. Just tell him no and you won't have to go through more guilt.
Please leave. I'm begging you.
You already know the answer to that.
"Melanie?" Amber asked. I smiled.
"Y-Yeah?" I asked.
Horror over passed Amber's face and she pulled me inside quickly, motioning for Laurence to follow.
"Melanie, you're hearing her aren't you." Amber said, her voice quivering.
"Who?" I asked. Amber shook my shoulders.
"Don't lie to me, Melanie. You're hearing your dark side, aren't you?" Amber said.
"I'm hearing this small voice in my head trying to convince me to be evil, if that's what you mean..." I said.
Damn it. She knows about me, doesn't she.
I'm hoping she knows hot to get rid of you.
"This is bad. Melanie, whatever you do, don't listen to that voice." Amber warned.
"It promised me a way to find Garroth." I explained.
"And she could possibly be right, but if you listen to that voice, it will lead you to darkness." Amber said.
That was my plan all along. You already knew that.
Of course I knew that. But, I'm just doing what's for my own good.
"Ok, Amber. I won't." I couldn't believe I just lied to Amber.
"Good. Laurence, were you listening to us?" Amber asked. Laurence blushed.
"Maybe..." He said. Amber sighed,
"Eavesdropper. Anyways, what's the rush?" Asked Amber.
"Oh, Laurence wants to get his memory back, and Jack has a potion for it I believe?" I asked.
"How would you know that?" Asked Amber.
"Jadyn told me." I lied.
Wow, you're getting good at lying aren't you?
It's for my own good.
"Jack is in the kitchen, along with Lily and Jadyn. They're trying to teach him how to bake cupcakes." Amber said, giggling. I smiled at the thought of Jack baking cupcakes.
"Ok, I need to speak with him. Come on, Laurence." I said, pulling his arm so he would follow me.
I walked into the kitchen, where Lily and Jadyn had Jack measuring flour into a bowl. I cleared my throat, calling their attention.
"Melanie!" Jadyn yelled, standing up and hugging me.
"Hi Melanie!" Lily said, giving me a kind smile.
Jack just stood there, his mouth slightly gaped open and his eyes wide.
"Jack, I need to talk to you." I said. Lily and Jadyn broke into whispers.
"U-Uh, ok." Jack said, walking to me. I grabbed his arm and pulled him out into the hallway, where Laurence was waiting.
"Laurence is trying to get his memories back, and I heard you had a potion for it.." I explained. Jack raised an eyebrow.
"How did you know that?" He asked. I sighed.
"I just do, ok? Anyways, we need it." I said. Jack pulled me aside, and whispered into my ear.
"You know that the potion gives him false memories, right? He won't remember you, he'll think he has feelings for someone else." Jack said.
"Yes, I know. But, I'd rather see him with someone besides from me and happy then alone and sad." I explained. Jack bit his lip.
"Alright, I'll give it to you. But, I need to talk to you anyways." He said. I tensed up.
"I know need to, but Jack, I can't talk right now. Maybe some other time." I said. Jack sighed, knowing he tried. We turned to face Laurence again.
"Jack has the potion." I said, motioning for Laurence to follow me and Jack.
"So this is the guy, huh?" Asked Laurence. I nodded.
"Yes, this is the guy." I whispered.
"... He's not bad looking. Why not just--"
"Go out with him? I can't." I said.
"And why not?" Laurence asked. I stared at Laurence, looking into those blue eyes that used to make my heart melt. They still did.
"Because like I said, it's complicated." I said.
Jack stopped us in front of his door, and he walked inside to get the potion.
"So tell me, who's holding you back?" Laurence asked.
"W-What?" I asked. Laurence smiled.
"Oh come on. I know that look. Someone is holding you back from Jack." Laurence said.
"Laurence, it's more then who's holding me back, there's always--"
"So, you're not denying it... There is someone holding you back." Laurence smirked.
Yes. It's you.
"Laurence, please don't do this--"
"Here's the potion." Jack said, handing the potion to me. I took it, smiling.
"Thanks Jack." I said.
"And now, I'd like to talk to you." Jack said, turning to me with a smile on his face.
"Jack I told you already--"
"No Melanie. Go ahead and talk to Jack." Damn it Laurence, why?
"Come on. This conversation is needed." Jack assured me, pulling my arm into his room.
No. Don't fall for him, Melanie.
Don't worry, I promise I won't.
Good.
"Melanie, we need to talk about that day at Scaleswind." Jack said, closing the door behind him.
"Jack I'm sorry, but I can't just fall in love with someone right after having having lost someone else." I sighed.
"Look, I know I shouldn't have just kissed you out of no where, but I couldn't help it." Jack said.
"I can't have this conversation right now Jack! I just can't! Laurence is outside, wanting his memories back, and somehow I have to cope with giving him false ones! If there was ever a bad time for this talk, it's now. Not only that, but there's a stupid dark voice in my head, a potion accidentally spilled on me that causes me to have songs play in my brain, and--"
Jack quickly grabbed my epwaist and pulled me close to him, planting his lips on mine. I still didn't kiss back though.
Hey! What did I tell you?
I know what I'm doing!
"For me, if there was ever a time to have this conversation it's now. Melanie I have feelings for you, ok? And I know it's highly unlikely they're being returned, but I just needed you to know." Jack explained. I swallowed.
So it's true...
What did I tell you? Don't fall in love with him.
Again, I know what I'm doing.
"Jack I'm sorry. But I can't return those feelings for you." I said, breathing heavily. Jack's eyes fell into despair.
"I know." He admitted. I rubbed his shoulder.
"You'll find someone, I promise. It may not be me, but you will find someone." I said, giving him a weak smile before opening the door and walking out.
A/N The chapter is over! No song today, because the chapter is way too long.
