Part 12

Little Cloudkit up top. She's so cute!

Moonpaw's POV

"Hello mama. I brought a rabbit for the kits. I hope that's enough, for it is the only thing I could find." She nodded in understanding, and waved the kits over. They greeted me with their little tongues, licking me on the shoulder, as if I were clan leader. "Will you come back?" Little Cloudkit asked me. I purred and nodded. "Of course. But I need to bring something to Duchess. She and her kits will be hungry too, and we are entering Leaf-bare, so prey will be rare." She nodded, and sighed. "Can I help? I'm not hungry." She looked at mama, who nodded kindly. "Alright, come wait at the entry of camp until I come back, and you'll help me carry the prey to the fresh kill pile, and then, together, we can bring what we find to Duchess and her kits." Cloudkit nodded, and together, we walked out of the nursery and to the camp entry. "While you wait," I told her, "You can go to the elders for a story, and then you can bring them some fresh kill too." She nodded again, and headed towards the elder's den.

My tail swept through the tall grass and bushes. The leaves rustled, and the mouse looked up, alert. Hissing furiously, I pounced, and killed it with a swipe of my teeth. I picked up the warm body, careful as not to crush the fragile kill. Thank you Starclan, for the life of this prey, and the skills given to me to catch it and safely bring it back to Thunderclan camp. I spoke the prayer. With the mouse in my mouth, I ran back to camp, for I could no longer keep Cloudkit waiting. She jumped up when she saw me, and ran over. "What did you catch? A squirrel? A rabbit? A raven? A tomtit? A......mouse?! That's all you managed to find? But I promised Flametail I would bring her something good!" She whined pitifully. I dropped my mouse and told her, "There's still an untouched dove on the fresh kill pile. You can bring her that while I give this to Duchess. Now run along! We don't want to keep Flametail waiting, do we?" She dashed off before she even answered, and grabbed the dove before sprinting to the elders den. I chuckled, Kits. I thought. Mousepaw grinned when she saw me at the medicine cat den, and led me to where Duchess was giving milk to her kits. "Hello Duchess. I'm afraid all I could find for you was a mouse, since we are entering Leaf-bare." Her eyes widened, and her brows then scrunched together. "That's all?! My kits are hungry! Can't you find more?! All of you are just sitting here as me and my kits starve! And now you tell me all you found was a filthy mouse?!" She raged, and her kits mewed shrilly. "Duchess, that's ENOUGH!!!!!" I jumped, and whipped around to face Hawkstar, who furiously towered over the disgusted she-cat. "I'm sorry Clan Cat, but I'm hungry and-" "We all are! So shut your mouth and accept what I'm giving you...you.....YOU FOX-HEART!!!!" I yelled. Hawkstar's tail whipped my ear softly, and he put his paw on mine, who's claws were unsheathed and were grabbing dirt and moss with them. "Leave us, Moonpaw." I nodded, and left Appletree's den. Ravenfoot approached me suddenly, startling me slightly. "Moonpaw, are you ready? We are going to the sandy hollow to train for fighting." I nodded, and padded towards the camp entry and exit. I licked Firepaw's cheek on the way, and exited camp, Ravenfoot on my tail.
