Shelter In Stone

Nikita woke up to find everyone else already awake. She internally cursed herself and hauled herself to her feet, blinking the sleep out of her eyes.

Elijah was right when he said that Whitecap wasn't far. They were close to the foot of the mountains now, and soon Nikita would leave with Toxin to go to Whitecap, something she looked forward to and didn't want to do.

The bitter cold would be new for Nikita, warm clothes would be a necessity. It was already beginning to cool down, and it would only get colder.

None of them had warm clothes, however. The hadn't had time to pack anything and had the clothes on their backs, the weapons they carried and whatever medical supplies and food they had managed to bring with them and hunt along the way.

A few people had flint and steel, but that was about it. They had virtually nothing, which was part of why getting to Whitecap was so important.

"Morning." Said Elijah, walking over to her and handing her some food.

She gladly took it and ate it, not realizing how hungry the battle against the mobs had made her.

"How are you feeling?" He asked.

"I don't think I'm the one you should be worried about," she said, looking at his arm, "but I'm doing fine. How about you?"

"Fine." Said Elijah, finishing his own breakfast.

"Good." Said Nikita.

"We really need to reach Whitecap now, though." He said, getting up and taking Nikita's empty bowl from her.

"We have wounded now."

Nikita sighed.

"I know." She said.

"Just remember that it wasn't your fault." Said Elijah.

"I know." Said Nikita again.

Fifteen minutes later they began to move, the wounded soldiers riding on horses lead by their riders. The mob attack had disorganized them a lot.

They no longer had orderly ranks of mounted soldiers on the outside of the army, they were now surrounded by foot soldiers because the horses carried the wounded.

As Nikita surveyed the army from where she flew above them on the Ender Dragon she resisted the urge to shake her head.

They really did need to make it to Whitecap. Luckily, the city wasn't far.

By midday the reached the foothills of the mountains, and Nikita, Toxin and Elijah went out in search of a cave suitable enough to shelter the army in.

It only needed to provide them shelter until Nikita came back from Whitecap.

Toxin forged ahead through the plants until they reached where the grass turned into stone as it lead up to the yawning mouths of the caves. Nikita took the lead then, sword held at the ready with Elijah and Toxin close behind her.

When they ventured deeper into the cave Elijah quickly found a spare torch and lit it, casting its warm yellow glow over the cave.

Nikita looked around she saw no movement and heard no mobs, so they continued forward until they came to a wide open room.

That's when Nikita heard something moving around in the dark up a head, but it wasn't a mob, it was person because she could hear him cursing softly in the dark.

Nikita squinted when another yellow light blazed to life and locked eyes with a caver. He had a sword hilt sticking out of the backpack on his back, a pickaxe in one hand and the torch in the other.

A rope was curled over his shoulder and his were muddy and dusty from exploring the cave.

"Who are you?" He asked, squinting at them.

"We might ask the same of you." Said Elijah.

"I'm James." Said the man.

"I'm an explorer for Whitecap."

Another one. Thought Nikita.

"We're making our way to Whitecap." Said Nikita.
"We have wounded soldiers that need shelter, food, water and care." She said.

"We were looking for a place to shelter the army while Toxin and I negotiate with Whitecap."

The man regarded them for a second before saying "This would be a good place to shelter. I've explored it thoroughly, and there aren't any mobs. If you keep your fires lit you're fine." He said, coming towards them.

"Do you mind if I join you?" He asked.

Nikita shook her head.

"So you're an army?" James asked.

"Yes. We came from Brimstone. Herobrine has taken over all of the realms except for this one." She said.

"The Second War." Said James.

"We all knew that it would happen. We knew that he would find a way to come back and take his revenge on us."

"So that means that there is another Chosen One?"

"Yeah," said Nikita, suddenly feeling very uncomfortable.

"That would be me."

James looked her up and down.

"Should have known it by the armor and the sword." He said.

"The first Chosen One had the same armor."

Nikita nodded, thinking about what the first Chosen One must have been like. Was he kind or cold and focused only on battle?

Now she wanted her questions answered badly.

They returned to the army and moved them into the cave around evening time, and they set up fires to keep the mobs away.

Nikita resisted the urge to yawn and checked on all the wounded soldiers, making sure that they were as comfortable as they could be.

After that was done Nikita tried to get some sleep. It was too dark to make the journey to Whitecap now, they would have to it in the morning.

The Ender Dragon was curled near the outside of the cave, sheltering the army inside from the brewing storm.

Nikita slept close to the Dragon's head, watching the rain falling steadily.

They were so close, they were almost there. Another day is all they needed, then the battered army could finally get a decent meal and a good night's rest, something Nikita knew they were all looking forward to.

Just one more day. She thought.

Hang in there for one more day.
