Old Friend
Nikita woke to the sound of the army getting ready for the day. She woke and stretched, waking up fully. She then went over and got her breakfast, ate quickly and set out to find Toxin.
Nikita found him talking to Elijah and put a hand on his shoulder. He looked up and turned to her.
"I need you to come with me to Whitecap." She said.
"I'm going to take both you and James."
"Alright." Said Toxin, sticking close as Nikita went to go find James.
"I need you to come with me." She said when she found him eating away from the others.
"To Whitecap?" He asked, looking up at her.
Nikita nodded.
"Why?" He asked, standing.
"I need to know if they can feed and shelter the army, or at least give the wounded men the care they need." Said Nikita, looking him straight in the eyes.
"How are we getting there?" He asked.
Nikita smiled ruefully.
"You'll see."
Nikita saw James raise an eyebrow at Toxin, and saw Toxin shrug out of the corner of her eye. She resisted the smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
"Come on." Said Nikita, beckoning them to follow her.
"I'm leaving for Whitecap." Nikita told Elijah.
"James and Toxin are going with me."
"Alright." Said Elijah, looking at the two people standing behind her.
"Be careful." He said.
"I will."
Nikita then walked back towards the Dragon. When James and Toxin saw Nikita mount the Ender Dragon Toxin smiled wide and James shook his head.
"There is no way you are getting me on her." He said, backing away.
"Oh come on!" Said Toxin, looking at the other adult.
"Where's your sense of adventure?"
"Nope." Said James.
It's not that bad. I'll make the journey easier for you. Said the Dragon.
James froze and so did Toxin when they heard her speak in their minds.
"That was cool!" Said Toxin, coming over to the Ender Dragon and climbing up to settle himself behind Nikita.
The Ender Dragon swung her head around to look at James, and he sighed.
"Fine, I'll come, but I'm not promising that I'll like it."
"You don't have to like it." Said Nikita.
"You just have to tolerate it."
Once James was settled behind Toxin the Ender Dragon spread her wings and took off, climbing higher and higher into the sky.
Nikita smiled when she heard Toxin cry out in both fear and joy, and heard James mutter "I think I'm going to be sick".
Nikita closed her eyes for a moment and let the cold wind howl around her, hearing nothing but the wing beats of the Dragon and Toxin's breathing.
As they got higher and higher into the mountains it became colder and colder, and to make matters worse it began to snow.
The heat of the Dragon's body was enough to keep them from freezing to death, but it was still bitterly cold.
How much further? She asked the Dragon.
Not far. She answered.
I've been here before with the first Chosen One. She said.
He lived here.
What was he like? Nikita asked.
Kind, caring, gentle. He always looked out for everyone, made sure that they were safe. He was much like you. You even look much like him. You have the same colored eyes, but he had unruly blond hair that would never stay neat no matter how hard he tried.
The Ender Dragon seemed to space off as if remembering memories of her first rider.
You must have had a strong bond. Said Nikita.
Yes, we did. That's what made it so hard for me when he died saving Minecraftia. I didn't know what to do. The pain hurt too much. They didn't even let me see him get buried when I was the one who knew him best, the one who fought alongside him.
Now I have you, which has helped me through my grief, and now I'm fighting again for what I love. She said.
Nikita nodded and looked out at the expanse of snow and stone, and then saw the outline of a city through the falling snow.
"There!" She said, pointing.
The Ender Dragon glided down towards it, getting closer and closer. Once they were close enough to see the buildings the looked for a place to land. The city was much like Brimstone.
It was encircled by a stone wall, but the buildings were all wooden except for a few, and looked warm and inviting.
Nikita noticed guards patrolling the walls, and gates leading into and out of the city. Paths went from each gate down the mountainside, snaking their way out of sight.
The Ender Dragon found a good spot to land on the wall and did so, careful not to break off any big prices of the stone. They were greeted by guards as usual.
"What is your business here?" Asked one of them.
"We need food and shelter. The rest of our army is still at the bottom of the mountain waiting for news from us. We have wounded, and we came from battling Herobrine."
The guards immediately changed from hostile to friendly.
"So you are the second Chosen One?"
Nikita nodded.
"Come with us. We have room to feed and shelter what remains of your army, but the Elders need to approve it first."
As always. Thought Nikita, dismounting.
Toxin and James followed her, and Nikita told the Ender Dragon to keep watch from above. She nodded and spread her wings, taking off into the frosty gray sky.
As the guards led them down the stairs of the tower Nikita noticed that the towers had wooden stairs instead of stone like the Redstone Isle, and were built to be warm because of where the city was located.
When they got out to the paths that connected all of the houses she saw children playing in the snow, and adults looking towards the sky where the faint outline of the Dragon could be seen.
Older children also looked towards the sky, and then their gazes shifted to her. She knew that they were connecting the dots.
When they made it to the large building in the middle of the city she knew that they had made it to where the Elders lived and discussed things with citizens.
The interior of the building looked more like an inviting log cabin with a roaring fire crackling in the fire place on the far right wall, a large wooden table set before it where the Elders were discussing something among themselves.
When they walked in they looked up and immediately realized what was going on.
"He has returned, hasn't he?" Asked one of them, her face grim.
Nikita nodded.
"Our army is in need of food and shelter. Our wounded need care and our supplies need to be restocked. We came from a battle with Herobrine." She said.
One of the Elders regarded her with knowing eyes.
"We will provide the things you need." Said one of the Elders.
"But how will you get your army here?" One of the other Elders asked.
"I can create portals to move them from where the currently are to here." She said.
"So you are the Chosen One?" Asked one of them.
"Yes." Said Nikita.
"So young." Whispered one.
"At least Gabriel was 20 when he took the role of being the Dragon's bond." She said, looking at Nikita with sad eyes.
"It is a heavy burden to bear when you are only 16 or 17 years old, not yet an adult."
Nikita nodded her head.
The amount of times in the last couple of days where she has wished her life was normal had been innumerable.
The role of the Chosen One was not easy to play, and often left Nikita blaming herself for things she knew weren't her fault, and it left her tired and scared.
"We will prepare houses for your soldiers, and you can bring them here." She said.
Nikita nodded, following the guards back out into the snow. She found a nice open spot, closed her eyes and focused, imagining the cave where the army was.
She knew that creating a portal from the cave to Whitecap was a large distance, and would take most of her strength, but she knew that she could do it.
She began with a small portal and then widened and heightened it so that the army could fit through.
Once it was big enough the army began moving through it, and in the span of five minutes they were all safe on the other side.
Nikita closed the portal and watched as the people of Whitecap took the injured to their infirmaries, got the horses to stables and took the uninjured men to empty houses so they could sleep.
Once the army was taken care of she told James and Toxin that they could go, and if she needed them she would send for them.
Nikita then called the Dragon to her and she landed in the open space in front of Nikita.
I remember this place when it was still my home. No walls, the houses were spread apart in the pine forest. Now things have changed. She said.
"Is that really you?" Asked a voice.
The Ender Dragon swung her head around and looked at the man approaching her.
Malachi! She said, her voice full of joy.
Nikita watched as Malachi hugged the Dragon's neck tight, not knowing how this man knew the Dragon.
"I haven't seen you since the First War." He said, looking deep into her purple eyes.
"I've missed you old friend."
I've missed you to. Said the Dragon.
"Who rescued you?" He asked.
She did. Said the Ender Dragon, turning her head to Nikita.
The man then turned to her, and Nikita saw him have to do a double take. His eyes were full of disbelief, but behind it joy sparkled in his eyes.
"Nikita...?" He asked, his voice trembling.
Nikita looked at the man, confusion clouding her face.
"How do you know my name?" She asked him.
Malachi heaved a sigh.
"You don't know, do you?" He asked.
"Know what?"
Nikita's confusion was growing.
"Come with me." He said.
"We have much to talk about."
