Chapter 1: Bloodshed
I fight for blood they say. I fight for my country they say. I fight for honor. The Vikings crashed into my home and raided my village with no warning, they expect woman like us to cower and hide, or let men get their way with us, the thing they don't realize is, is that my father was a warrior and so am I.
Vikings come from all slaughtering my people. They came in the night as we slept, and burned our houses. I grabbed my fathers sword as he lay there with his last dying breathe. It was cowardly for them to stab him while he lay in his bed, soldiers must die with honor. I put on his armour and grabbed his shield and sword he once worn in battle very long ago, and left my home to fight.
The fire they set to my house was slow but moved fast gradually. The fear I feel is strong. I will not cower, but I also will not lie and say I do not fear them. I'm one person, with one sword, but that is all I need. My dear friend Cecilia's home is being burned down, and my mother is running across the field with my brother in one arm and my sister under the other.
I spot a girl across the field crawling backwards on the dirt as this Viking hovers over her. I've never killed a man before I've only dreamt it. I prayed to the Gods to help me find the strength to be a warrior, or I'll die trying.
I ran across the field and slammed my sword into the top of his head and slid it away as he fell to the ground. The girl looked at me with shock in her eyes, "Thank you" she muttered and ran off into the forest.
My victory was short-lived when another Viking knocked me to the ground and held the blade at my throat, then revealing a smile with his yellow teeth. My sword was at arms reach, and I struggle to reach it. He presses the blade closer to my throat and I shut my eyes as a tear slowly rolls down my cheek. Something saved me in that moment, it must've been the Gods , but my horse came running towards me, knocking over the Viking who tried to kill me without even blinking. I hopped onto his back and rode into the forest to find my mother.
She had to have run into the woods. There is a spot by the rocks where we know to hide if this ever were to happen. Oh dear what if something has happened to her. The night before she kissed my forehead and told me to dream sweet dreams, and now she is in danger and I can not find her, this is my fault. She has no one! I chose to save that young girl over following my mother into the woods, and now I've lost her.
I decided to ride ahead following the tracks I found and blood streaks I saw amongst the trees. Is this her blood? At a far ahead bush I saw my brother Aiden. He lay there with an arrow in his belly. I threw myself off my horse and dropped my knees to the ground. Holding my hands over him I could see as he struggled holding the arrow that led him to bleed faster and faster. I lifted him to my arms and he opened his wide eyes to me, "Kiora" he said smiling and than shutting them once more.
I will not let my brother die, but I don't think he has much time. There's a witch upahead who can heal anyone, but it comes at price. She has the devil's hands my father would say. Now I must enter the devil's cave.
