Chapter 1: Congratulations to Mrs. Rhee

The ghost flung you across the room as if you were a worn-out rag doll. A voice screamed in the distance but you had hit your head so hard you barely heard. Things weren't looking up. The Winchesters have told you it would be a simple salt and burn the ghost that was chasing you. It wasn't. Had you known that the douche you were dating had a freakishly jealous witch girlfriend, you wouldn't have even glanced in his direction. So not only the bitch decided to send a ghost after him in revenge, but also after you.

He had already died when the FBI agents showed up. You were a tears mess, sulking in your college dorm when they knocked asking too many, too weird questions. Soon you found out Ray was nothing but a lying prick. He didn't love you one bit. He had a girlfriend who he was cheating on with you, the naive freshman. When things started to get even stranger, you found out the FBI agents weren't even that. They were hunters: the Winchester brothers.

The bitch witch, however, had proven to be more difficult to hunt than the average. First, they thought it was an avenging ghost and they burned it. But then when another one showed up the brothers realized it was deeper than that. So they spend the next week researching and hanging in your dorm protecting you. In that week you learned a few things about hunting and about the Winchesters. You also learned that yours and Dean's personalities clicked and that you had an undeniable attraction towards Sam. You kept quiet about this last fact. You had just lost your "boyfriend" and you knew Sam would leave at the end of the hunt. So you focused your energy on finding the culprit and on your growing friendship with the Winchesters.

A pair of strong arms lifted you up and when you glanced at him you remembered what was happening. You were fighting a ghost alongside Sam. Dean had gone off to kill the witch; knowing it was the only way to truly stop it. You took a shaking breath and you clenched your hands around the iron poker. Hazel-green eyes asked if you were ok, you nodded silently and turned around. That was the day you faced your first monster.

Heat of the Moment plays in your head as you mutter the lyrics pretending to be in a concert. In the driver's seat, Glenn glances at you containing a smirk. You would do this sort of ridicule show often, but it never ceases to amaze him.

"You know, while we're there we could check if there's a record store," he says after a moment "buy you some real CDs."

You beam at him. "We could totally do that," you agree. "But first things first, have you thought about what kind of ring you want to get?"

Glenn has been meaning to propose to Maggie for a few weeks now. He has already gotten Hershel's blessing. Today, you are on your way to pick up the ring. But for everyone else -except Helshel- this is a supply run. Glenn wants to keep it a secret and only told you because you are his best friend. He needed your blessing too.

Two weeks ago when he told you, you couldn't react. It took you a while to utter a word and he took it as a rejection. He was heartbroken that his best friend didn't support his love life. And it is not that you don't, you do, but the apocalypse makes things much more complicated. So for the past week and a half, you have been trying to convince him -and yourself- that marriage is a good idea.

You are truly happy for Glenn and Maggie, you really are . But you also can't help feeling slightly jealous. Not of Maggie, you definitely don't like Glenn that way. Their relationship... their relationship is something that you want for yourself.

It has been ages since you had a boyfriend -or girlfriend- that didn't die or disappear. You are starting to think you are cursed. Ray in freshman year was your first formal boyfriend, and he betrayed you and then was killed. After that, it took you a while to date again, and when you finally got a girlfriend, the apocalypse started and you never saw her again. In the midst of the apocalypse, you were starting to get things on track with Amy when she was bitten and died. And then a few months later the same thing happened with Mike, Helshel's nephew. Since then you decided not to involve yourself in anything serious. And now Glenn is getting married, and you might want something serious. Not that you have someone to do it with. Your crush with Daryl is nothing more than that; a silly schoolgirl crush. He has never encouraged anything and you have never sought anything. You are content watching him from afar and having a decent friendship with him. There is also Shane.

Shane is -was- your father's best friend and you have known him for years. You know for a fact that he slept with your mom and knocked her up -something that you had a hard time forgiving-. Now Lori is dead and Shane has taken a particular -disgusting- liking towards you. He hasn't tried anything, but sometimes you can feel his lingering eyes on you. It makes you wonder why your father didn't kill him.

"We are nearby," Glenn's voice startles you momentarily. You try to shake off the remainder of Shane's glace as Glenn parks by the road. "We have to go on foot from here, I don't want the walkers to hear the car."

You nod in understanding and unbuckle your seatbelt. As you follow Glenn through the streets with a hand by the hilt of your knife, you start humming Asia's song again. It took you a while to convince Glenn to get a ring; he wanted to propose without it. Luckily, you managed to find a decent jewelry store in a small mall and dragged him out there. No one questioned that you both wanted to go solo. Glenn and you were a good team on supply runs. He is fast and sneaky, and you have great aim with your knives and guns. There is no way that this would go sideways. Or so you hope.

As you approach the store, you notice a few walkers roaming around. You take three knives out of your belt and throw them. They land perfectly on target and the bodies fall with a small thud . Your aim is the ability you feel most proud of. You prefer showing off with the guns strapped to your double chest holster, but they make too much noise, so you use throwing knives most times.

Once you reach the door, Gleen taps into it and waits for noises. Nothing comes out so you enter the store. Nevertheless, you scoop down the place before lowering your guard.

You are in the mood of joking, so you get behind the counter and ask cheekily "So, Mr. Rhee, what can I get you? Is there something in particular you are looking for?"

Gleen chuckles softly and plays along "Well, I was planning to propose to my girlfriend." He pretends to think for a while. "I'd like something simple yet beautiful."

You nod in fake professionalism. "I see, I think I have just what you need." You look down at the showcase and halt in your act. There's... nothing there. Well, there are some jewelry pieces there but nothing worthy of Maggie's and Gleen's love. You grimace and Glenn notices. He looks as well and repeats your gesture. Without a word, you both start to scoop around the place for something pretty but the search is useless. It seems that this store was looted long before you came; possibly at the very beginning of the apocalypse. You return to Glenn and see his distressed face. "Look man, I'm sure we can find something else."

Glenn shakes his head, "there is nothing else! This is the closest, safest store in miles." You don't say it but he is right. The other jewelry store is inside a big mall near the border of the town. And you know for a fact that the building is packed with walkers. You would be luckier finding a shipment of food in the middle of the road than getting in and out of that place alive.

Then, an idea comes to you. "I know!" you say, "let's check out the safe. Rich pricks like to keep their best jewels there, don't they?" You walk to the back of the shop with Glenn, uncertainty in his features. "C'mon, don't give me that face, better than nothing."

You see the safe and it's big and old. You expected it to be electronic, but seeing as the store is not a first-class jewels store, you are not surprised. You kneel down and start fiddling with the mechanism. It is a combination safe, so you know what to do. You just gotta play with it until you hear a click and do it again and again until it opens. Easier said than done, and you've never done it before, you've only seen people do it. Yet you don't want to disappoint Glenn, so you try.

For a while, neither of you say anything. In your 10th try, Glenn starts to speak when loud gunshot echoes outside. You stand up and follow Glenn into the main shop with your gun at hand. Crouching down, you take a peek out the window. At first, you can't see anything, but then two men come running down the street. They are being chased by 10 or so walkers. They don't seem to notice you or be a threat, so you holster your gun and plan on waiting until they leave or get killed. That is until one of them turns around and you see his face. A face that is so familiar yet so different. You know him. Last time you saw him was 4 years ago, back when you were a happy freshman and your liar boyfriend got killed... maybe not so happy then. Sam Winchester is right there and your heart skips a beat in acknowledgment. And if Sam is there, that means... The other man, you can't see his face, but you know that buzz-cut hair and strong shoulders. Dean.

It takes you a split of a second to make up your mind. Maybe you should have taken more, but two weeks of friendship with the Winchesters come rushing to your head and you know they saved your life. Now you have to save theirs. So you glance at Glenn once and say "C'mon" before busting out the door. You don't even hear Glenn calling after you.

The second you step out a walker launches at Dean who stumbles and falls backward. You run towards him unsheathing a knife and you throw it with precision. The knife's edge sinks into the walker's skull killing it. Startled, Dean looks in your direction and it takes him a few seconds to recognize you. You are glad he does because then it would have been awkward.

"Behind you!" Dean screams at you and you turn around just in time to see Glenn finishing the walker that was about to bite you. You nod him thanks and pull out two more knives that you throw at upcoming walkers. You hear your companions battling the rest of the walkers as you kill one more that was approaching. Soon enough, 10 walkers are nothing for you, Glenn, and the Winchesters.

As you turn around to face the others, your eyes meet Sam's for the first time in four years. He is just like you remember, gorgeous, tall, and sweet. Your heart hammers in your chest yet you are not sure if it is the adrenaline of the fight or Sam. You smile at him and he responds instantly. There is no hesitation like you saw with Dean. He is well aware of who you are. You feel the urge to do something, hug him, perhaps, but you were never close enough to do that. So you resist and focus on the problem at hand. One of them shot a gun before, walkers nearby must have heard it, so you know they'll come.

Before anyone can say anything, you approach the death walkers and grab your knives from their skulls. "We should get into a store and wait there, more walkers will be coming." Glenn agrees and starts walking to the closest shop; retail. You follow a suit and you feel the Winchesters behind you.

Once you enter the place, Sam caresses your name softly and says "we didn't expect to find you here- it's a nice surprise."

You chuckle. "Likewise. I wasn't actually going to help you but then I remembered you did save my ass back then."

"Well," Dean says, "we had to, it would've been a waste to not save that pretty ass of yours" he jokes. You know that he doesn't really like you that way, he is just being a flirt, as always.

Before you can respond to that with a sassy comment, Glenn clears his throat. The bliss of meeting the Winchesters again made you forget about him. What a best friend you are. "Guys, this Glenn," you say directed to Sam and Dean. "Glenn, these are Sam and Dean Winchester."

Sam murmurs a 'nice to meet you' and Dean merely nods. You expect Glenn to be his happy self and start fawning over the Winchesters, but he is oddly quiet. That's when you notice that he is tense. He doesn't trust the brothers. You can see why he wouldn't. Even though Sam bears a gentle gaze, his height is intimidating. Dean is slightly shorter, but the almost permanent frown on his face is not friendly at all. If you hadn't known them beforehand, you would've never even looked at them.

"Umm-" you break the awkward silence created by Glenn's lack of response. "- how- how have you been?" You berate yourself internally, really? how have you been?

Luckily, the ever so gentle Sam answers easily "we've had worse. I hope you've been staying away from... dangerous people" Did he mean witches?

Glenn looks at you puzzled, but you ignore him and answer. "Don't worry, I learned my lesson with Ray."

"You better" adds Dean.

Glenn looks around the three of you waiting for an explanation that never arrives. You can see the burning question in his eyes: how do you know them? But you remain quiet. He huffs in annoyance and walks to the window. You've never told Glenn about the Winchesters -you never told anyone, not even your parents-. Not that they would've believed you. Glenn knows who Ray was: your dead ex, but you had given him a credible version of the events. No witches, no hunters, and no ghosts. He is your best friend and he believes he knows most about you, so the fact that you are sharing this secret conversation with a pair of strangers annoys him.

Nevertheless, once Glenn gets out of earshot, you whisper. "Does this," you gesture outside, referring to the apocalypse "has anything to do with the supernatural?"

Dean and Sam share a glance before the latter answers carefully. "Some." Dean doesn't say anything. The response tells you that they don't want to talk about it. And despite your curiosity, you decide to respect their wishes.

You say nothing more and sit by the counter. Sam and Dean remain standing near you. Glenn is still at the window. For the next few minutes no one talks. You want to say something- anything. You are happy you met the brothers, and you remember having fruitful conversations with them during those two weeks, but now is like you don't even know them. Maybe you never did.

"Alright," Glenn speaks, "walkers are gone, we can go out now."

You let out the breath you've been holding. That was a tense silence. Dean rechecks the streets and nods in yours and Sam's direction. Thankfully, Glenn doesn't notice Dean's distrust of him.

"So," you start as you approach the exit, "what were you doing here besides running away from walkers?"

Sam looks at you and his eyes twinkle in something akin to wonder. You ponder why and then it hits you. The last time you met, you were this messy freshman utterly confused about the supernatural and her own life. Sam had been kind and understanding in those moments but he saw vulnerability. Now you were a confident grown woman that had just saved his life. Would he like both versions of you, or would he prefer the confident one? You think briefly.

After you met the Winchesters all those years back you took it on yourself to research the supernatural. Vampires, ghosts, werewolves, all of it. Or at least all they told you existed. You managed to acquire decent information most times, although you were blind in some areas. Your interests had been purely selfish, only for the love of knowledge. You didn't want to hunt them.

"Supply run" answers Sam. He looks at Glenn a few paces before you and then back at you. "What about you?"

Glenn and you stare at each other for a moment. "Same" you simply answer but you remember the safe back at the jewelry store and add "actually... we are looking for something in particular and maybe you can help us."

"We can?" Dean, who has been listening to the conversation, inquires.

"Yeah, there is a safe that we need to open," you reply "y'know, that way you can repay us for saving your lives."

Dean chuckles, but it's Sam who speaks, "I thought you owed us for last time."

You shrugged and murmur "details."

You arrive at the jewelry store and go into the back like you own the place. Dean and Sam are watching in amusement, probably wondering what the hell do you want from that kind of place in the middle of the apocalypse. You point to the safe.

"What? Do you want to rob some money?" Dean questions with a smirk.

You snicker "No, you douche. The front of the store is run-down and we need a ring. Figured we might find something in there."

The Winchesters share a look. "A ring?" asks Dean.

"Yeah, an engagement ring," Glenn announces. He still seems wary of the brothers but his shoulders have relaxed considerably watching you joke around with them. At least he trusts them enough to reveal that bit of information and let them help.

Sam shifts uncomfortable, "I see," he says yet he makes no move towards the safe. It is Dean who kneels in front of it and starts twisting and fiddling with the lock.

"Well," Dean starts "I guess congratulations are in order."

"Thank you" Glenn's response is sincere. You smile at him. You truly are happy for him.

"So how did you two meet?" Sam asks.

You frown, what does that have to do with anything? Nonetheless, you answer "At the beginning of the outbreak, we were part of the same camp."

When his brother doesn't add anything more, Dean says "Good, I'm just glad you got over that dick ex of yours."

For the first second, you are confused by Dean's comment, but at the same time as Glenn, you realize what the brothers are thinking. You look at your friend with wide eyes and suddenly laughter erupts out of the two of you. You can't really contain yourself, you can't believe that the Winchesters thought you were marrying Glenn. The idea seems bizarre in your mind.

"No, no," you manage to say between laughs, "me and Glenn, no." Now Sam and Dean look confused, so you contain yourself and explain "Glenn is my best friend, I'm here to help him find a ring for his soon-to-be fiancee, Maggie."

"Oh" Sam whispers and you smile at him, mischief still in your eyes. When your gazes remain locked too long, he clears his throat and kneels alongside Dean by the safe, "you're doing it wrong" he murmurs.

Dean and Sam spend 10 minutes opening the safe, and then you and Glenn spend 15 minutes choosing Maggie's ring. By the time you are done, the brothers have gone and come back from the thrift dollar store by the corner.

"Time to go," Dean announces.

You hesitate for a moment, but then one look at Sam's face and you make up your mind. "How many walkers have you killed?" you ask.

"What?" Dean is confused.

"Just answer the question."

Sam does, "We lost count."

"How many people have you killed?"

That inquiry is received with silence, but then Dean murmurs "More than it should have been."

"Why?"

"Because we screw up."

You aren't sure if your dad is going to be content with those answers -probably not- but you understand why they say that. You know that they blame themselves for those people that they couldn't save, and you know that is not their fault. So you decide that you are going to battle your father in favor of the Winchesters. You know that you have more chances at winning if you have Glenn on your side. You look at him and the expression on his face tells you he is not happy you made that decision on your own. But you also know he does not completely disapprove, he is a good judge of character and he must have sensed that the Winchesters are good people. He is not going to be too hard to persuade, you have the ride home to do so, so you turn to the Winchesters and say: "we have a place..."

A/N: You are a Grimes, your father is Rick and your mother is Lori (imagine they are a bit older). You met the Winchesters 2 years prior to the apocalypse in a hunt while you were in college. They saved your life and introduced you to the supernatural world. You built an ephemeral friendship with them. Now, a year after the start of the apocalypse, you meet them again. Are they the same guys you met? Or are they as broken as you are? And why is your desire for Sam still there?

Crossover between The Walking Dead and Supernatural. Set in season four of TWD and SPN canon divergence after season four. It is based loosely on the post-apocalyptic world presented in 05x04 of Supernatural. It follows TWD's timeline with a few changes to adapt the SPN world. It will not be a word-by-word script of the show. I will add my own characters and plots.

Dean and Sam never said yes to Michael/Lucifer and the virus was released (the virus of TWD, not the Croatoan virus). They were alone back then so they never built Camp Chitaqua. Heaven left earth, so Castiel is not there.

This is a second-person POV, but it does not necessarily have to be reader-insert. You can imagine the character "you" as anyone.
