7 To Richmond
Eleanor was driving along, worried and in shock, trying to stop from speeding too fast.
"Are they following us?" she asked the others, unable to see behind them as the armoured vehicle was missing a rear view mirror. Clem opened a rear side window and looked out. She had been panicking, crying the whole way out of Prescott, she had screamed at Gabe to fuck off when he kept saying he would protect her. As she looked out a huge sigh of relief escaped her lips, she turned to Eleanor and yelled:
"Pull over."
"Are you sure?" Eleanor asked before Clem yelled again to stop. She was approaching a widened part of the road so came to a stop, Clementine banging on the back trying to get out.
The four guys stopped a couple of moments later, Tripp having driven like a maniac to catch up and Eleanor smiled widely seeing them as she opened the rear door for Clementine.
"Eleanor. Thank God" Tripp smiled as they rushed together and hugged, Javi rushed over to see his family as everyone but Kate got out.
Clementine ran to Y/N crying loudly in relief at seeing her lover. She hadn't known if he was dead, if he had got out of Prescott, anything. The stress and relief drained out of her through her tears and her sobs as she reached Y/N, wrapping her arms around his neck as he lifted her. The two stood in the embrace, just holding each other before Y/N groaned slightly in discomfort and lowered her to the ground.
"Are you ok?" Clementine asked, worry returning to her face as she asked:
"You're not?"
"No bites" Y/N replied. "Just banged up."
"Goddamn toughest son of a bitch I've ever seen" Tripp smiled as he approached with Eleanor.
"Got blown through a friggin building and walks out a minute later just shakin' it off. Saved mine and Javi's life, again. Didn't get the chance to thank you, kid, with all the craziness."
"No problem" Y/N smiled and nodded, Eleanor asking: "Can I check you? You don't usually smile."
Y/N and Clementine followed Eleanor to the armoured vehicle, to the side sliding door and Eleanor asked Javi, Gabe and Mariana to give them a little space. She instructed Y/N to sit in the open doorway.
"Where are you banged up?" she asked, looking into Y/N's slightly glassy eyes.
"Sore head, back, chest" Y/N said as Eleanor checked off some dried blood in his hair.
"Cuts here from the fall, but nothing that needs stitches, stand up and take off your jumper and shirt and let me check your abdomen" she said as Clementine looked equally upset at night just the suggestion, but also the way Mariana's eyes seemed to light up at the idea as she and Javi stood about ten feet away, Gabe having wandered off.
"Give me a hand, Clemmy?" Y/N asked as she nodded and helped him as he gingerly removed his tops. Mariana's face lit up at the sight of his torso, muscular and defined from years of hard living, along with the tattoo and scars on his upper arms and chest. Eleanor was more concerned at the bruising that was forming at the front and back of his ribcage.
She felt along his front gently before following around to the back, the Garcia's catching sight of Y/N's stomach, the crudely branded MINE that stood out in pink scars over his white defined abs.
They looked at him in shock, Javi finally asking: "what... what the fuck is that?"
Y/N looked down at his scars and back up, replying calmly:
"You ever been tortured?"
The blank stares, widened eyes and gaping mouths that greeted his question also answered it. He replied to himself emotionlessly:
"If you are, pray they don't use fire. Fucker nearly killed me. Fucking stinks too."
Eleanor finished checking his back, having taken in his conversation but having no idea what to say about it. She instead placed a hand gently on his shoulder.
"Well the good news is I don't think you have any breaks, probably just bruised ribs, but you might have a concussion too, so try and take it easy, ok."
Clementine nodded and thanked her, replying she would make sure he did, and began to help Y/N get dressed again. Eleanor walked off and stood next to Tripp, who was leaning on the bonnet of the 'stolen' car, next to Conrad who was in turn sat on the floor staring forward in shock.
"I can't believe it. All of our friends, all those people... Oh, Conrad" Eleanor said as she looked down. He hadn't moved since the cars had stopped, just sitting there, unable to process what had happened. It quickly changed though as Javi approached him.
"I'm sorry, Conrad" he said with sincerity.
Javier's words lit a fire in Conrad's ass, as he shot up to his feet and roared to life:
"You're sorry? You're sorry?! You're the one who opened fire! She's dead because of you!"
"Conrad. Easy, buddy. This wasn't his fault. Y/N and I were up there firing too."
"Bullshit! Y/N stopped firing as soon as he knew those fuckers had my woman. Francine, Prescott... All because this washed-up cheat walked through our gates! I shoulda known it the second I looked at you. You ain't gonna stand up for nobody but your own!"
"Hey, that's not fair, man. Like Y/N pointed out on top of the wall, she was gone as soon as they had her. They're sick fuckers and-"
"I don't care what you or anyone else thinks. I know what happened" Conrad snapped again.
Their argument had got the attention of Y/N and Clementine, the two walking across from the armoured car, Y/N saying:
"Fuck sake" as he saw something before anyone else and said to Clementine "stay back."
Meanwhile Eleanor had interjected in the argument, almost begging:
"Calm down, Conrad, please."
Conrad though couldn't be reached, as he stormed forward, shoving Javier back.
"All I know is, if it wasn't for him-"
Javi was shoved again but refused to fight back. He knew Conrad was just hurting, grieving how much he had just lost. He knew Tripp and Y/N wouldn't let it go too far but it was better for Conrad to get it off his chest. He did react though when he saw his nephew behind Javi aiming his gun at Conrad's back.
"Gabe, whoa!" Javi said holding out a hand to stop. Gabe yelled:
"Back the fuck off, now. Just back away"
"Take it easy, son" Conrad said as he raised his hands
"This isn't necessary" Javi said, trying to appeal to his nephew. Gabe snapped though:
"He's gonna hurt you. No way. I told you, I'm a man now!"
"Just do it already! I don't even care anymore" Conrad said in despondency. Gabe heard something else though, something that made him even angrier. Laughter. Y/N had walked up next to Javi and laughed as he did, even as Mariana called out:
"Just put it down, Gabe."
"What are you laughing at?" Gabe yelled at Y/N in a squeaky pathetic tone.
"You, thinking you're a-"
Y/N cut himself off as Gabe swivelled, pointing the gun at Y/N now, the smile on his face disappearing as his eyes turned cold.
"Come on, kid" Tripp pleaded, seeing this was going downhill fast. Javi attempted to hold Y/N back as he stepped forward with the same cold expression, the older man easily pushed off though as Y/N glared before a sadistic grin grew, accompanied by a cold, dark tone of voice:
"You wanna point the gun at me now?" Y/N said as he moved forward, seeing the fear in Gabe's eyes as he approached.
"You got the stones to kill me, boy?" Y/N continued, not giving Gabe time to answer as he stepped even closer, the gun now shakily pushed up against Y/N's forehead.
The others had gone quiet, watching nervously, except Javier who was pleading with Y/N to let it go and Gabe to put it down. Mariana watched the scene unfolding, terrified, especially as she looked over to Clementine and noticed her hand was on her gun at her side, ready to pull it out at a moment's notice.
"B-b-back off. I'll shoot you" Gabe stammered, Javi screaming at him to put the gun away. Y/N chuckled again and replied:
"Bit hard with the safety on."
Gabe took his eyes off Y/N, looking at his gun momentarily, and it was all the time Y/N needed. The gun was quickly snatched from his hands, a backhand dropping him to the ground with an "oof."
"Point a gun at me again and it will be the last thing you do!" Y/N spoke, again coldly, as he turned and walked back to Clementine, handing Javi the gun on the way passed. Gabe ran off in embarrassment as the tension dissipated from the group. Conrad collapsed to the ground by the car, and broke down in tears. He managed to make out:
"We have to go back. We have to bury her."
Tripp sighed to his friend: "I wish we could. But Prescott's overrun. We can't go back."
"Well, we're not safe here, either" Eleanor added.
Y/ N had gone and sat in the doorway of the van again, leaning on the side with his eyes closed as his headache returned with a vengeance. Clementine rubbed his face lovingly before she said to the others:
"What about Richmond? I've heard there's a community there. If it's true, they'll have food, walls, maybe even a hospital."
"All I want is to find the motherfuckers who did this! They took my home! They took my... Goddamn it!" Conrad cried.
"All I know is Kate's dying. If there's even a chance for her in Richmond, then I need to take it" Javier added
"Richmond, huh?" Tripp smiled. Eleanor nodded:
"It's something, at least."
"Yeah. Fuck it. Let's go" Conrad added, wiping his eyes. Tripp smiling as he helped him up:
"That's the spirit, man."
The group headed back to their cars, Gabe returning with his tail between his legs. Y/N got in the armoured vehicle this time along with Javi. Kate had tried to get up when the situation with Gabe had been going on outside, only making it as far as the wide seat behind the driver's seat. She laid there, Javi sitting with her head on his lap. Clementine and Y/N sat on the seats across from them, while Gabe and Mariana got in the rear door seats while Eleanor drove.
Y/N leant back against the side of the car and rested his eyes as Clementine laid his left hand on her lap and held it open, running her finger along the thick scar that ran across it. It always helped to calm her, to bring her peace when she did. Javi looked across and noticed the scar.
"Damn that must have hurt" Javi said looking at it. Clementine continued to smile as she spoke:
"When I was ten I was kidnapped by this guy in Savannah. He was a psycho, wanted me to be his daughter. Y/N fought through a horde, hundreds of them, with only his knife and a piece of glass. He beat the man to death and rescued me."
The others were shocked at her words, Mariana asked from behind:
"How old was he?"
Y/N answered tiredly before sleep over took him:
"Eleven."
--~--
Y/N and Clementine were running through the woods with AJ, he was on Clementine's back in a baby carrier. Y/N led the way, his crossbow on his back as he took down any walkers in their path with his hunting knife.
"There, ahead" Y/N said to Clementine behind him as they approached a boarded up bus in the middle of the forest. The walkers had closed in on them quickly, too quickly to make an escape.
"We can hide in here, AJ. Daddy found us somewhere safe. Don't worry. It's gonna be okay."
Y/N kicked the door in and as soon as Clementine and AJ were in he slammed it behind them and barricaded it with a bookcase. Clem meanwhile had set AJ down as walkers surrounded the bus and he began to cry and whimper.
"Shh. AJ, it's alright" Clementine smiled at her son before she began to hum lovingly.
It was the tune to My Sunshine and it was the signal to AJ to be quiet. He stopped crying and held his tiny hands to his mouth.
They had been teaching him to do that since he turned one, trying to keep him safe. It was lucky he had been learning it since before Wellington fell. It was hard to explain to an eighteen month old about walkers and the need to be quiet, even when you're afraid.
"I know you're hungry" Clementine said sadly as a pang of guilt hit Y/N in the stomach.
"As soon as we can get out of here I'm gonna find you and Mommy some dinner, AJ. I promise" Y/N said as he looked out the boarded up windows, trying to count how many were out there.
"Hopefully we can find some dinner for Daddy too" Clementine said with a smile as AJ clapped:
"Dada... Dada"
Clementine smiled just not at AJ's cuteness but also at Y/N's face light up. She loved her family with all her heart. Y/N had taken to fatherhood like no one could have imagined. She would have thought him 50 not 15 the way he put her and AJ first, always looking out for them. He absolutely adored AJ and AJ absolutely adored his Daddy. He was his hero, AJ's face would light up when his Daddy gave him attention. If only she could get AJ to say "Mama." His vocabulary was a bit limited for his age.
Clem was pulled from her thoughts as someone banged on the door at the other end of bus, on the other side from where they entered.
"Son of a bitch! Hey! I can hear you in there! Let me in! Please! Oh, God, there's so many... Please, don't leave me out here."
The woman's panicked voice was loud, and Y/N spring into gear:
"Fuck, she gonna bring more down on us."
He rushed over and opened the door, shocking the woman by grabbing her and tugging her in, before slamming the door shut and barricading it closed with a cupboard.
"Jesus. Thanks" the woman said. She was on the taller side but slender, with dark skin and a shaved head.
She smiled at Y/N before turning to see Clementine, Clementine's hand on her gun.
"It's ok, I'm not gonna hurt you. Just happy to be away from them. Pretty big group out there."
Y/N looked back out the window and answered:
"I was trying to hunt some dinner for us, for them, but the fuckers came out of nowhere and scared the game away."
The woman nodded before double taking and asking "them?"
She turned and caught sight of AJ, whose little head was peaking out from behind Clementine's back. Her face lit up as she saw the happy toddler and she smiled:
"He's a cute kid. You guys live in here? You guys seem kinda young to be parents. What are you? Fourteen? Fifteen?"
"We're old enough" Y/N snapped, not appreciating the woman's tone. She immediately clarified:
"I'm not judging. I know you have to grow up quick in this world but damn."
"We knew his birth parents. They were good people. We've been his mom and dad since he was a day old" Clementine explained. She liked this lady, and she of course definitely warmed up to people quicker than Y/N.
"Then he's cute and lucky. He has people looking after him, caring for him. Not much of that anymore" the woman smiled.
"Ain't that the truth" Y/N muttered in reply as he kept checking out the window, looking for an opening to start thinning the dead fucks out. The woman continued talking to Clementine.
"We were out there scouting... nothing out of the ordinary, and then... chaos in... shit. Those bastards are slow, but goddamn it, when there's enough of them, I got separated from the others. God, I hope they all made it. Thought we were ready for anything. But they were all around us before we saw them."
"I'm sorry... about your friends..." Clementine replied.
"We've been in hotter spots than this, for sure. My people are probably at the rendezvous by now. What's left of them, at least... By the way, I'm Ava. And my group... we call ourselves the New Frontier."
She rolled up her sleeve to reveal a brand on her arm.
"I'm Clementine, this is AJ and my boyfriend, Y/N" Clementine replied before AJ started crying again. Clementine sat him on her lap and talked sweetly to her baby boy:
"It's ok buddy. I know you're hungry. Daddy will get you some food as soon as he can. He always does."
"Get both of you some food" Y/N replied, still looking for a chance.
"Shouldn't that be all of you?" Ava chucked, thinking it was a faux pas before she saw sadness grow on Clementine's face.
"No. He meant it. He goes days without food sometimes if he can't find enough for all of us."
"That's what a man does for his family, Clemmy. You don't need to be sad, babe."
Ava smiled at the pair and then said suddenly:
"Hey, why don't you come with me, meet my people? We have food, blankets, bottled water... C'mon, dinner's on me. I owe you one."
"That sounds good. Sounds great, actually" Clementine smiled. Y/N though wasn't as accepting.
"These people of yours, can they be trusted? My son, my girl safe around them?"
"Yeah, they're good people. My CO, David, was a family man. You'll be safe with us" Ava smiled.
"I will hold you to that" Y/N said coldly, not looking away from the window.
--~--
"Babe! Babe!" Y/N heard, coming to and looking around disorientated. He dreamt again, of the past, begging himself to make a different choice but unable to. Forced to relive his failures like every other time he fell asleep.
"Hey sleeping beauty" Javi chuckled before he got out of the armoured vehicle next to where Tripp was standing.
"We at Richmond?" Y/N asked, Clementine shaking her head as she rubbed his leg.
"No, there's a bunch of cars blocking an underpass. The guys are working out how to clear it" Clem smiled.
Y /N nodded, yawning and rubbing his eyes.
"How's the head?" Eleanor asked from the driver's seat as Mariana and Gabe got out of the boot and stretched their legs.
"Sore, but not as bad" Y/N replied calmly.
"How long was I out?" he asked Clem. She smiled and replied: "about an hour. Come on let's have a look around" before kissing him and stepping out of the vehicle. Y/N joined her and they looked around their surroundings.
They were at an abandoned gas station, a garage on the other side of the road. Several cars were spread out across the road and while Javi, Tripp and Conrad were discussing what to do to clear the path, Y/N and Clementine began looking through the cars, seeing if there was anything worth taking.
Javi had just got a garage door open, despatching a walker and finding a vehicle with a winch on the front. He just had to work out how to get it powered up and they were in business. He looked around to his right, hearing a smash and Y/N yelling fuck before he sat down against a wall, pulled out the tin he had found and lit up a joint. Clem looked at him sadly, leaning down, giving him a kiss and saying she would keep looking.
The look on Y/N's face as he smoked said he wanted to be left alone, so Javi walked over to Clementine who was now jimmying open a boot of a car at the gas station.
"Hey Clem, everything ok with Y/N?" Javi asked. Clementine looked up and smiled sadly, not noticing Gabe eavesdropping from the corner of the station's building.
"Y/N has nightmares when he sleeps, just things that have happened, things he blames himself for, even though I tell him not to. There was a baby seat in the car over there and was enough to-"
Clem cut herself off, closing her eyes as two lines of tears dropped down her face. Javi looked at her with genuine sadness and sympathy, placing a supportive hand on her shoulder. She looked up at him, a coldness in her eyes as she said:
"Sometimes people show you a face, only to hide their true colours. They can take everything from you. Be careful who you trust, Javi. Don't ever think you can do otherwise."
--~--
Y/N was sat as he finished his joint, trying to push away memories of his boy. AJ was gone. AJ was dead. Y/N had failed Alvin. He had failed Becca. Kenny, Luke, Pete, Shep- he had failed them all. The more he tried to run from his guilt the more it chased him.
"Are you ok?" a voice suddenly asked, Y/N looking up as Mariana sat next to him.
"You just look really sad is all" the girl smiled.
Y/N flicked away the tiny butt of his joint, being too small to smoke anymore, and replied:
"I'm fine. Just deal with shit and keep moving. That's all you can do."
Mariana nodded, not really understanding Y/N's words. She smiled, a blush growing on her cheeks as she replied:
"I never got the chance to thank you, not properly. You saved my life at the junkyard. I would have been dead if you hadn't done what you did."
"It's no problem, Mariana" Y/N said with no emotion as he stared forward. He noticed Clem looking over with an odd expression, out of the corner of his eye.
"Why did you do it? Save me I mean. You could have been killed."
Y/N gave her a side eye, not looking at her directly as he quickly responded:
"You think I'm the kind of person who wouldn't?"
"No I didn't mean-"
Mariana was cut off by a loud screeching noise, Javi having hooked up the winch vehicle to the stolen vehicles car battery and was dragging the one wheel-less car left blocking the underpass out the way.
Y/N though, as was usual, caught sight of something before everyone else as he shot to his feet and picked up his crossbow:
"Get to the truck" he said as he got up. Mariana asked "what?" in confusion before Y/N barked:
"Now!" and rushed across the road to Clementine's side as a horde of walkers stumbled through the now open underpass.
"Clem, run to the car, now-" Y/N said, but it was too late. Mariana made it to the armoured vehicle as Javi yelled:
"Eleanor, now! Go, go, go! Just drive! Get her to Richmond! We're right behind you!"
Eleanor drove her, Mariana and Kate through the walkers and off, some turning after the vehicle, hundreds of others instead continuing to the other survivors.
"There's not enough room in the-" Conrad was about to say car, before the vehicle that was getting winched smashed into it.
"Fuck, what do we do now?" Tripp panicked.
"Rooftop!" Y/N shouted, pointing to the roof of the gas station, a ladder fortuitously placed on the side of the building. Y/N and Clementine were the closest, Y/N practically forcing Clementine up the ladder in order to get her to safety, quickly following her up. Conrad was the next over, then Tripp, both climbing us as Javi and Gabe got there. Javi covered his nephew as he climbed up the ladder, the walkers getting even closer before Javi was grabbed from behind, a walker emerging from the dumpster that was at his back. He lifted his gun, shooting it right next to his ear.
The world spun as Javi staggered in pain, disoriented from the gunfire. Y/N, Conrad, Clem and Tripp fired at the closing in walkers as Y/N yelled:
"Javi! Get your head in the game! Get up here!"
Javi tried to climb on the ladder, but the walkers were too close. He jumped on the dumpster and looked up. Gabe's hand was out, but before he could grab it his nephew was shoved aside, Y/N kneeling and reaching out.
"Come on!" Y/N yelled. The second Javi had grabbed his hand, Y/N groaned with effort, pulling the 200 pound man up to the roof, Tripp grabbing Javi's shirt halfway up, the three falling to the roof, Y/N chuckling on his back:
"Fuck. I thought you were about to get chomped."
"So did I. Thanks guys" Javi huffed as Tripp locked hands with Y/N, helping him get to his feet.
"Why did you push me?" Gabe yelled, Y/N looking at him with distain as he snapped back:
"There's no way you could've lifted your uncle, muscles."
"You two knock it off. We've gotta think of a way out of this" Tripp responded.
"We wouldn't even be in this fucking mess if it wasn't for her!" Conrad snapped, pointing at Clementine. She snapped back:
"Fuck you, Conrad" as Y/N stepped between the two, eyeballing Conrad and stating coldly:
"Try something. I fucking dare you."
Tripp again jumped between the two and again said first looking at Conrad:
"This isn't helping" and then to Y/N "we have to figure a way out of this."
"We need to keep our heads. We panic we die. If we can get a small out, I can gut one of these fucks and lead them away" Y/N said calmly.
The others (minus Clementine) looked at Y/N in horror, except Javi who yelled:
"Get down!"
The group quickly took cover behind various air conditioners and such on the roof, Y/N yelling out:
"Why the fuck are we hiding?"
Javi responded: "I saw someone on the roof over there."
He pointed towards a rooftop several buildings away, closer to the overpass. They had been joined together at some point, by someone, walkways across the buildings.
"Wait, was this all a trap?!" Gabe gasped. Y/N was getting more and more pissed at him by the moment, his sheer stupidity:
"How could it be a trap dickhead. No one knew we were coming and no one passed us!"
Tripp shouted out to try and keep everyone focused:
"Keep your heads down. Guy could have a rifle. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd like to keep my skull intact."
As Y/N peered out carefully fro, the side of the AC unit he and Clem were hiding behind, Javi called out:
"Whoever you are out there, we don't want any trouble, okay?"
He looked out and then said to the others:
"What the hell? He's gone. Everyone stay here and keep behind cover. I'm gonna see what I can find out."
"Be careful" Clementine said quietly. Javi nodded and quietly climbed across to the next roof. He saw the figure again, behind the same broken sign with the hole in it he had initially spotted the man, and jumped behind a corner before again making his way over a makeshift bridge of planks.
He came round the corner and saw the man crouching behind the sign, so his raised the gun to the man's back and said calmly:
"I'm gonna need you to turn around for me, slowly. Did you hear me?"
When the man didn't react at all Javi got closer, realising too late it was a beanie and a jacket on some refuse, a clever decoy, as a gun clicked behind him.
--~--
Y/N watched Javi slowly move towards the sign, and as soon as he disappeared behind it with his gun raised, a figure step out from behind him.
"Fuck, wait here" He whispered to the others.
--~--
Javi suddenly heard a man's voice after the gun clicked, he spoke calmly.
"That thing's not a toy. Drop it, or you might hurt yourself."
Javi sighed and dropped his gun, raising his hands. The man continued:
"Now, then. I'm not gonna shoot, not unless you make me. I just want to talk. You got me? Just want to have a word."
"Look, I don't want any trouble here, okay?" Javi answered as he turned around.
"Just answer my questions and you have my word: you'll be fine. You, the guys there, the teens, the women in the car--I saw you split up. I overheard that little argument just now. Your friends over there aren't gonna shoot me, right? You folks have your shit together? If you're some kind of broken tribe, then let me know now. 'Cause I've had my fill of people that can't agree on anything."
"They're good people. They've lost... a lot" Javi answered honestly.
"Sure. We all have."
"Recently."
"Ah, fresh wounds. That makes sense. You're going to Richmond. That tells me you've got something to do with what's going on down there. Question is, whose side are you on?" the man asked. Javi looked at him puzzled:
"Look, man, I don't know what you're-"
Javi stopped as he saw a shadow emerge behind the man, a gun pointing into the back of his neck as Y/N said coldly:
"I'm gonna need you to lower the gun you've got pointed at my friend."
The man raised his hands before he spun, attempting to grab Y/N's gun but instead catching a hard punch to the nose that dropped him to the ground, his gun bouncing to Javi's feet. He laid with his hands raised as the others appeared behind Y/N with their guns drawn, Clementine smiling at her boyfriend's actions as she said with a grin:
"Don't move."
"Can I get up at least?" the man asked. Y/N chuckled, putting his gun away and holding his hand out to the man. He took it and stood, thanking Y/N.
"Don't thank me yet, you make a move and my girlfriend will shoot you" Y/N smirked, motioning with his head towards where Clementine stood with her gun pointed.
"Well, is he one of them?" Tripp asked impatiently.
"Hey, man, what do you mean by "them"? Who's "them"?" the man asked.
"You know what I'm talking about. The New Frontier"
"What? No, I'm not with those guys. You've got this backwards."
Tripp scoffed:
"Y/N, Javi, this guy is full of donkey shit."
Javi quickly checked the man's neck for the brand and said to the others:
"I don't think he's with those guys. Do you recognise him, Y/N?"
Y/N shook his head.
"Nah, he wasn't with those assholes when we beefed with them."
The man spoke again:
"Look, I'm telling you. I'm on my way to Richmond, just like you. I lost touch with some good people there when the New Frontier took over."
Y/N's head snapped to attention. Clementine's eyes widened as she asked:
"What did you say?"
"The New Frontier. They took over Richmond. Don't tell me you didn't know that?"
"Fuck..." Gabe whimpered.
"Oh, God. Eleanor, Mariana and Kate. They're headed right into the middle of those assholes!" Tripp roared.
"At least now we got an excuse to go after those motherfuckers" Conrad snapped.
Clementine meanwhile turned and walked off. She began to hyperventilate, Y/N walked over and hugged her from behind. She whispered to him:
"If they're at Richmond. If we walk up to their gates..."
"It will be a slaughter. Kate will die anyway and we might not make it" Y/N whispered back.
"What are we going to do?"
"We'll split, explain to Javi and take off first chance we get. Scope out Richmond and see if there's a side entrance. I've got some people I need to pay a visit" Y/N replied. Clementine nodded, squeezing the arm he had placed around her chest and said finally:
"Thank you. For always being you."
Y/N leant down and kissed her cheek, the pair turning back to the others. Javi, Tripp and the man were still speaking, Conrad was staring at the pair, his eyes narrowing.
"You got a problem?" Y/N asked coldly. Conrad just turned to the others as the man pointed to the train tunnel above the overpass.
"There's an old train tunnel that runs under the James river. From what I hear, it should be a straight shot into Richmond."
"A train tunnel?" Tripp asked.
"I could lead you guys there... But since Javi here said you're good people and all, maybe you could lower those guns first?"
"Lower them, my ass. We're gonna tie you up and make sure your story checks out" Conrad chuckled.
"That's really not necessary" the man said.
Tripp looked over to Y/N and Javi, adding: "I don't know. We just met this guy."
Javier and Y/N exchanged a look before Javi said: "Lower your guns."
"Javi, man, don't-"
"Do you trust me or not?" Javi asked Tripp, who sighed, lowering his gun, Gabe and Conrad following suit.
"Thank you. Ready? This way" the man said.
"Hey, what do we call you?" Javi asked. The man turned around with a smile.
"Sorry, forgot to introduce myself. It's Paul. But my friends call me Jesus."
Y/N looked at Tripp and mouthed "Jesus?"
Tripp shrugged. It had been that kind of day.
