6 Not a fucking bite!

Y/N's eyes fluttered open as the world began to spin before he were able to focus. Muffled voices could be heard that began to become clearer as Y/N was suddenly aware he was laying on the ground, his head propped up on Clementine's lap. He was automatically acutely aware he had a tremendous pain in his left arm.

"..... they could be working for Carver"

"I told you we don't know any Carver..."

Y/N looked up at Clementine's chin as he said weakly:

"Cl... Clemmy..."

"Y/N!!! You're awake!!!" Clementine roared in unbridled joy, causing the strangers around to jump at her sudden yells of excitement. She leant down squeezing Y/N's head tightly as tears of relief leaked from her eyes.

"I thought you were dead... I thought you were dead" she whimpered, eliciting a smile from the older man, Pete, who had rescued the pair in the woods.

Three other people were arguing with him about what to do. Clementine had gathered from their arguments two of them were named Alvin and Rebecca and were married.

The other was named Nick and had a rifle pointed straight at them.

Clementine leant back as Y/N shifted to push himself up with his right, non-bitten, arm. As he did he asked:

"Clem what's-"

Bang!

He was cut off by an eardrum shattering bang as Nick had accidentally fired the rifle, missing Clementine by mere inches and hitting the ground to her right.

Y/N saw red, ignoring his pain and fatigue as he pushed himself to his feet.

"Damn it! Finger off the trigger son!" Pete yelled as he grabbed the rifle from Nick's hands.

"I'm not your-"

Crack!

Before Nick could finish he received a fist to the face, a sickening crack coming from his face as he hit the floor, blood pouring from his nose.

Y/N had put all his effort and energy into throwing the punch, and after it connected he fell the opposite direction to Nick, landing on his arm and screaming in pain. Clementine screamed "Y/N!" and rushed to his side. The other three adults were looking in shock at what Y/N had done, he looked at Nick with fury, Nick looking back terrified in the cold hard eyes of the boy who growled through the pain in his arm:

"You fucking do that again. I'll kill you!"

The others looked in shock as Clementine helped Y/N to his feet and Luke rushed out through the door of the cabin they were gathered in front of:

"Whoa whoa what the fuc-"

He stopped speaking as he reached the stairs and saw Nick bleeding profusely, struggling to get to his feet, and looked across at Clementine struggling to help Y/N to his feet.

Luke forgot his previous concerns as he rushed over and helped Y/N to his feet:

"What the hell is wrong with y'all. They're kids. They're scared!"

"Scared? That half-dead bastard just put Nick on his ass!"

The woman, Rebecca, had a hell of a sharp tongue and a mean temper. Clementine tried her best to hide her smile. She knew Y/N was just going to love this lady. Rebecca turned to Nick and continued yelling:

"And you, you fucking idiot! Every lurker for five miles probably heard that!"

"You're the one telling me to fucking shoot them!" Nick yelled back.

"Everybody calm down" Alvin said as he approached his wife, trying to placate her.

"Are you two ok?" Luke asked worried as Y/N dropped to a knee again, struggling to remain upright. He was hungry, thirsty, sleep deprived, bleeding and in a world of pain. He struggled to speak before Clementine spoke loudly and clearly as she held onto Y/N's side lovingly.

"We're not working for anyone. I've got no idea what you're talking about. We got separated from our group when we were attacked. We just need help for Y/N's arm and we will be on our way to find our friends."

"We've got a doctor right here, ok guys" Luke smiled kindly looking down at the pair. Y/N stood shoulder height to Luke, easily 5'8", but in his current hunched position Luke appeared almost gigantic. Clementine smiled at Luke's friendly warm face thankfully. Y/N had already picked up this was a man he could trust.

Luke's warmth disappeared as he turned to Rebecca, Nick and Alvin, Pete standing next to Luke as the younger man spoke angrily:

"Now what the hell is wrong with you people okay, they're just scared."

"We're all scared, Luke. Don't act like we're the ones being irrational because we don't buy this bullshit story!" Rebecca snapped.

"No way they survived out here on their own" Nick added, somewhat muffled, as he held a cloth to his bleeding and broken nose.

"Why are we even arguing about this?" He continued. As they argued a man exited the house and walked towards the young teens.

"Let me take a look" he said in a Hispanic accent as the other adults parted to make way for him.

Clementine was intimidated by the man as she gripped into Y/N tighter. Y/N pulled himself to his feet and looked the man in his eyes. Y/N was slightly shorter than the man and could smell the arrogance wafting off the son of a bitch a mile away. The more he felt Clementine hide into his side, the more he felt the need to stand his ground, not show fear, or pain, or weakness.

Just like uncle Daryl had taught him- never let any son of a bitch intimidate you.

The man held his hand out towards Y/N, who used his right arm to lift his left up to the supposed doctor. This wasn't good, he was weakening quickly.

The man squeezed and prodded as he investigated Y/N's injury, and it hurt like hell, but Y/N wasn't going to give anyone the satisfaction of knowing they hurt him. He didn't react as the doctor chuckled:

"Tough one aren't you!"

The others saw the injury on the inside of Y/N's forearm, a deep cut clearly in the shape of a canine's jaw.

"Damn that must have hurt" Alvin muttered.

"Well, is it like they said?" Nick asked, still muffled, yet anxiously.

"Hmm. Whatever it was, it got you good."

Y/N looked shocked at the doctor. The hell did he mean whatever it was?

"This isn't how we do things! You get bit you get put down, simple as that!" Nick snapped. His eyes darted to his rifle that Pete held, then back to Y/N. Y/N picked up on it, his right hand going to his scabbard, gripping the handle of his knife.

He glared at Nick who stopped in his tracks, the look in Y/N's eyes clearly saying 'try it and see how far you get.'

The group was disturbed by the cabin door opening again, a girl, maybe a year or two older than Y/N, stepping out.

She looked at Y/N and her eyes lit up in excitement. Clementine didn't know why but she didn't like what she saw.

"Oooh! Who's he?" The girl asked excitedly, completely oblivious to the tense stand off happening in front of her.

"Sarah go! I told you to wait inside!" the doctor snapped. The girl moaned loudly, smiling at Y/N again before walking inside, slamming the door.

Y/N was oblivious to her presence, his hand resting on the heel of his knife, ready to make a move.

Clementine realised and gripped his hand, squeezing it. When he glanced down she shook her head. They needed these people. They needed these people to fix Y/N's arm. She prayed he would keep calm. Nothing mattered more to her right now than getting him fixed.

He got the message somehow, releasing his grip as the doctor stood.

"It's hard to say what it was, bite like this, could have been anything!"

Y/N looked at the doctor with a raised eyebrow.

"The fuck kind of people you know who have a snout shaped like that?" He snapped, motioning to the obviously oval sized gash in his arm.

"Look I don't know what took a bite out of him but he's a kid, worst case he turns, and we deal with it if we have to!" Pete said calmly to the others.

"Only one way to find out" the arrogant doctor said, turning his back on Y/N and Clem to face the others.

"How?" Pete asked.

"We wait."

"What?" Rebecca gasped.

"By tomorrow morning, if the fever's set in, we'll know if he's going to turn. In the mean time we can lock him in the shed!"

"What?!?" Clem exploded. Y/N though stood motionless, other than a dark glare coming over his eyes.

"What about his arm? It needs to be cleaned and stitched and bandaged" Clem pleaded.

"The boy's in bad shape, Carlos" Luke pleaded as well, just as concerned for the kid's welfare.

"We have all those things inside the cabin, we could probably get by with-" Alvin said compassionately, snarkily cut off by his wife who snapped:

"ALVIN, please..."

"Yeah no we can't do nothing" Alvin said quickly, completely changing his tone under the glare of his domineering wife.

"I'm not wasting supplies on a lurker bite. If it turns out you're telling the truth, I'll clean and stitch it in the morning" Carlos said arrogantly.

He turned and left, as arrogantly as he had just spoken, pausing for a moment when Y/N muttered:

"Fucking choke on em!"

"It's as good as we're gonna get" Luke said sadly, pointing towards the shed.

"Finger off the trigger, son!" Pete said as he handed the rifle back to Nick, the bleeding in his nose finally slowing.

"I ain't your son" Nick snapped, Luke turning and adding:

"C'mon man don't be like that."

He directed Y/N towards the shed door, adding quickly:

"You can come in the house, get warm and some food in you, Clem."

Clementine rounded on Luke quickly, snapping:

"If you think I'm going to go in there while my best friend sits in a cold dark shed then-"

"No, Clemmy, please. For me?" Y/N asked pleadingly, wanting her to be fed and comfortable. She glared at the boy she cared for like no other, shaking her head.

"Well move then!" Nick snapped, pushing Clementine in the back. She stumbled into Y/N's bleeding arm, but he ignored the pain to death glare straight through the older man. Even at just fourteen and looking half dead he was terrifying:

"Nick, right? I tell you what, Nick. You fuckin' touch her again and I'll break more than your fuckin' nose!"

Clementine had seen that look on Y/N's face before, quickly gripping his hand. Luke stepped between the two, playing peacekeeper.

"C'mon Y/N man, he didn't mean nothin' by it."

The four reached the shed, the two teens entering and Luke closing and locking the door behind them. They heard as the two men walked off:

"Hey man, what the hell did you push her for? She's a kid!"

Y/N began to panic. He was in bad shape. He and Clem were locked in a eight by twelve foot shed. He quickly pulled his knife from its sheath, handing it to Clem handle first.

"Clemmy, you need to take this. If I-"

"You need to put a cork in that talk right now, mister" Clem said solemnly.

"I'm getting you those supplies!"
