3 Attacked

Two Years Later

The seasons had ebbed and flowed since Omid's death. A lot had happened to the group of survivors, but still so much had stayed the same. The group had slowly made their way around the forests of Georgia, keeping to themselves where they could.

Out of desperation they had joined a small settlement towards the end of Christa's pregnancy, but the baby was stillborn and the community fell a month after the birth.

In the end, the dead always win.

Lee, Carley and Y/N had managed to get Christa and Clementine out as the small community fell.

They resumed their never ending trek onwards, looking for food, or shelter, or preferably both.

—~—

It was early evening as the group of five sat around a campfire, or a pathetic excuse of one, as they attempted to get a fire started to cook a weasel Y/N had caught. Pickings were slim and they had to take what they could get. Winter was beginning to come in, and as it was the third winter since they left Savannah, that made Y/N 14 and Clementine 13. It had been difficult at times finding clothes for the pair, especially Y/N, who wouldn't stop growing and was only three or four inches below Lee now. Clem though wasn't quite at five foot yet and Y/N took a lot of pleasure reminding her about it.

Y/N was wearing cargo pants, and a black hoodie he had 'found' in his size, and he still had his crossbow and knife of course, as well as a 9mm handgun he had behind his back for emergencies. He only had three bullets in the magazine, it had been a while since they had came across some, and was for emergency use only. His crossbow dealt with most of his day to day needs, though there too, he was running low on arrows.

Clementine was dressed in jeans and a purple long sleeve shirt, and her ever present D hat of course.

She also sported Y/N's Savage Sons biker vest which no longer fitted him.

"It's no good this is all too wet to burn" Carley said grumpily as she and Lee attempted to light the tinder they had gathered.

"For fucks sake let me do it!" Y/N snapped frustratedly. Carley had taken a firm mothering role with him the last few years and would not let him catch the food and cook the food, despite his frustrated protests. She looked at Clementine who was, as ever, right next to Y/N, cuddling up to him and holding her hands in his larger ones. It brought Clem constant relief to run her fingers along the prominent scar that crossed his left hand, a constant reminder of what he would endure for her.

It made Clementine feel all warm and fuzzy inside whenever she thought about it. Carley smiled at the pair and nudged Lee, who looked over and smiled. It was plainly obvious to anyone that Clem had a massive crush on Y/N, and that Y/N felt the same way back.

The problem was Y/N was completely oblivious to not only what his own feelings meant, but also the presence of Clementine's.

"You keep him there and make him rest, ok, Sweetpea?" Carley asked Clem, who smiled and nodded.

Carley looked over to Christa and an expression of sadness crossed her face. First Omid, then the baby, Christa was a ghost at this point.

"Christa, talk to us" Carley asked sadly. Christa was shook from staring at nothing and replied:

"I'm gonna look for more wood."

She got up and promptly left, Carley sighing and calling to the teens:

"Lee and I will look too. Remember Clem- watch him!"

Clementine nodded and giggled before hugging into Y/N even more. As the two sat there Clementine whispered:

"I'm freezing!" before shivering.

"Clemmy!" Y/N chastised, pulling himself from her grip as he stood quickly and ripped the jumper over his head, placing it on Clementine.

"No, Y/N, what about you?" Clementine tried to argue as the jumper was quickly thrust over her head. She wanted to argue more wholeheartedly, but it was so warm, and it smelt just like him.

"I'll be fine, but you need to tell me things like this Clemmy. How am I supposed to protect you if I don't know?"

"I'm sorry N/N" Clementine answered, giving Y/N a full dose of her big brown puppy dog eyes. She knew that it was his weakness. He folded like a cheap deck of cards.

"It's... it's ok Clemmy, I was just worried. You've gotta tell me though ok? Especially as we head to Wellington. This cold will turn to rain, then sleet, then snow."

The group had kept on hearing about a place called Wellington, a huge settlement up near Michigan. It was a good a plan as any.

"I promise" Clem said with a smile and a giggle, leaning her head into Y/N's chest again.

"I love it when you hu-"

"Shhh!" Y/N cut Clementine off abruptly, quite uncharacteristically, unless...

"Fuckin' cut the shit! Where's your group?"

A voice yelled close to the pair as Y/N held a finger up to his lips and whispered:

"Stay behind me. Get ready to run!"

Clementine nodded as Y/N stalked forward, priming his crossbow. Not twenty yards from camp they came up to Lee and the two women, surrounded by five men.

"I'm telling you it's just us" Lee said, as two guns were pointed at him, one at Carley and Christa.

"Don't you fucking lie to me boy. Now if you don't tell me the truth, my buddy here is gonna shoot one of your bitches. I'll let you pick which one though."

Y/N turned his head and whispered to Clementine: "Run!"

"What?" She gasped back.

"Run. Now!" Y/N snarled, turning back round and firing an arrow into the head of the man who had the women at gunpoint. Clementine ran, noisily, to Y/N's right.

It all happened so quick.

"RUN!!!" Y/N yelled to his friends, dropping his crossbow as he reached for his gun.

The three adults ran, a gunshot firing and a body dropping with a thump. Y/N fired two of his last three bullets into two of the men of the group.

Time seemed to slow, to Y/N's left one man followed his remaining adult friends, Y/N had no idea who had survived. To his right one man chased after Clementine.

There was no choice.

Y/N fired a shot towards Clementine's pursuer, hearing him yell in pain. He packed his gun back picked up his crossbow and bolted.

—~—

Y/N had ran for about five minutes, desperately avoiding the dead that had been drawn by all the noise, occasionally hearing a man yelling, always seemingly out of range.

He finally came upon the guy from behind as the stranger stood on a riverbank that flowed eastwards of where the group had been camping.

Y/N spear tackled the man from behind, and, noticing a bullet wound in the man's right shoulder blade, began pounding on it with all his strength. The man screamed in pain as Y/N pulled his blade and jammed it into the man's shoulder, roaring:

"Where is she?!?"

The man continued screaming before Y/N ripped his head up by the hair.

"You fucking tell me before I feed you to the walkers piece by fucking piece!"

The man screamed in pain:

"She jumped in the water. She jumped in the water!"

Y/N pulled his knife and stood up, the man whimpering:

"I told you. I told you. Please, help me"

"I'll fuckin' help you" Y/N sneered, side stepping an approaching walker and shoving it down onto the man who screamed even more as chunks were torn from him.

Y/N quietly backed away, this asshole would bring all the dead fucks to him, allowing Y/N to try and find Clemmy. He pulled his torch from his cargo pocket and quickly found the tracks where she had jumped in. He strapped his crossbow over his shoulder and ran forward, following the river and looking desperately for any sign she had pulled herself out.

Clemmy would be ok. She had to be. She fucking had to be.
