21 I Already Made You a Promise
It was almost night time and had been a long and sad day. The group were all sat round the fire talking about the plan for the most part.
Vince had taken out Russell after he reanimated, everyone fearfully giving Y/N the cold shoulder before he returned to his bed and laid down slowly, in pain, facing the wall as Clementine sat next to his bed and rubbed his back.
As the group starting discussing, Clementine left Y/N, who was lightly snoring, and sat next to Rebecca who hugged her tight.
"How's Y/N?" Rebecca asked with concern.
"Sleeping I think. He hasn't spoken since it happened."
"No offence to him, but that was messed up" Mike said, cautiously looking over at Y/N's bed. "I mean Lowell I can understand, but Russell was a good kid."
"Yeah, so good" Clementine snapped. "Look at my face, Mike" she reiterated by pointing to the red/purpling bruise on her cheek.
"He hit me with his gun and stood by doing nothing while they tortured Y/N for days. They're all gonna die, one by one. You have no idea who Y/N is!"
Silence filled the air after Clementine's rant, before Nick and Luke walked over after speaking to Bonnie through the gate.
"What did she say?" Rebecca asked as she hugged Clementine.
"She said she can get us out of the pen if we can get the PA system going. Second she hears it, she'll run over with Vince and spring us" Nick replied.
"That's great" Rebecca said with a smile before Luke spoke.
"It's not great. Look, I know part of this is my fault, I... I know. I was hungry, I got reckless tryin' to steal some food and I got caught..." Luke replied saddened.
"We can't stay here!" Clementine snapped, immediately followed up by Rebecca:
"Exactly. We have no idea how long Alvin's got before Bill just kills him. We have to leave now."
"Look, I hear what you're saying, but it's risky" Luke replied, Nick adding "It is pretty damn risky, guys."
Mike roared:
"Risky? Did you see what that son of a bitch just did? Look, the plan works. Nothing needs to change. It's all set up. The hard part is done. This guy's fucking crazy. He's tortured Y/N and Alvin, killed Reggie, beat Kenny nearly to death. Who knows what he'll do next?"
"Yeah, but now we're dealin' with a guy beat to shit, Y/N on level 9 PTSD, Sarita in no shape to do anything and I'm a goddamn mess. Look, we should rest up, okay? We should bide our time, and we should wait for an opening" Luke countered.
"Vince and Bonnie's agreeing to help us tonight."
"And that doesn't mean she can't do it some other night."
Nick decided to speak up, taking Luke's side against Mike: "I don't know, guys. Luke's makin' sense. Maybe we should wait."
"We're not waiting" Rebecca snapped.
"Ain't nothin' out there, guys. Trust me, I looked! There's no food, there's no supplies. They picked everything clean. I'm just sayin', we gotta be sensible about this" Luke replied. Just as he did Carlos walked over wiping his hands.
"Is he ok?" Clementine asked worriedly. Carlos sighed:
"His orbital is crushed. I don't think there's much hope for the eye. I got him as stable as I could, cleaned it, got some of the swelling down, bandaged it as best I could, but until he wakes up, we won't know if there's any damage to the brain."
"Fuck." Mike muttered. Luke looked around the group:
"Okay, look... maybe I'm just playin' devil's advocate here, but if... damn it, if y'all are serious about goin' tonight, then we're gonna have to start talkin' about maybe... leavin' some folks behind."
"No!" Sarita cried loudly, Rebecca muttering "this is bullshit."
"Kenny and I are only here because of you people, and now you intend to leave us behind?!" Sarita snapped.
"We are not leaving Kenny and Y/N behind" Clementine said in fury.
"No one wants to do that Clem, We're just tryin' to make the best of a bad situation, here. No one wants to leave Kenny or Y/N but-"
"Good, 'cause... you won't have to" Kenny said as he slowly approached the group. His left eye was bloody and bandaged. Sarita ran up and hugged him.
"I'm alright, hon. We leave tonight... plan don't change" Kenny grimaced.
Clementine walked up to Kenny, her eyes tearing up as she did. Kenny looked down at her and smiled:
"You alright? That wasn't your fault, okay? So don't go blamin' yourself."
Clementine rushed in, hugging and squeezing Kenny tight.
"It's alright darling. It's all alright" Kenny smiled into the hug.
The group quickly processed a plan to meet at a tourist site named Parker's run, which was just a few miles north of their prison. When they were done Luke asked:
"Then we just need someone to go set off that PA, right? I mean, you never bothered to explain who's supposed to do that"
Everyone slowly turned and look at Clementine.
"Wait, wait, hold on. She's the plan?" Luke asked in shock.
"Let's go" Clementine nodded. She walked over to Y/N, kissed his temple and whispered: "won't be long until we're free. Be ready to move, Y/N."
She walked over to the group who were stood by the rope. Rebecca hugged Clementine and said:
"Be sure to remember to flip the switch for the outdoor speakers. Just the indoor speakers might not draw the herd. It's right on the microphone box. By default it's set to play music, so you should just have to turn it on, right? Then climb back up and drop into the stockroom. We'll meet you there. And Clem, bring back Alvin"
Clementine nodded as she was raised up.

Clementine looked down at the skylight above Carver's office. It had been tricky, there were four or five of the guards on the roof, staring down at the gigantic herd that was circling towards the facility. She had managed to sneak past them and dropped down into Carver's office.
She immediately rushed over to the dark corner where Alvin sat.
"Alvin, Alvin, we gotta go" Clementine said as she untied his hands. She looked up but he was non-responsive, slumped over in the chair.
"I'm sorry Alvin" Clementine said sadly, turning to head towards the loudspeaker before stopping. She stared in horror at the place Y/N was shackled, blood caked the wall and floor. Tears leaked from Clem's eyes as she turned and tried not to think about the violence committed on Y/N. She rushed to the PA system, turned on the external speakers and pressed play as music blared.

Bonnie and Vince heard the music blaring and rushed to the pen where the prisoners were held, lifting the roller door. The prisoners rushed out, all except Y/N as he struggled to push himself off the bed.
"Here take this" Vince said to Luke, handing him his AK. "Bonnie's gonna take you over to your weapons, Bill's been keeping them out as a trophy. I'll help the kid."
Kenny said thanks as he and the others rushed over to a trestle table where the weapons from the bag Y/N hid in the woods were laid out.
Vince meanwhile rushed over to Y/N and placed one of Y/N's arms over his shoulder.
"Hang on kid, I've got you" Vince smiled.
"You got a gun?" Y/N asked. "So we can make it look like you're a hostage?"
"Good idea, Y/N" Vince smiled, pulling his 92FSR Beretta out and handing it to Y/N.
"It's got a silencer on the end so it's good for-"
There was a faint thhp-
There was a thud-
Vince's body fell to the floor, a bullet passing under his chin through his skull and brain and blowing the back of his head out as Y/N limped forward, gun in hand.

Clementine turned and gasped, walker Alvin was heading straight towards her. She backed up in fear before the walker stopped and opened Carver's top desk drawer
"Alvin, are... are you okay?" Clementine asked worriedly as Alvin found a tiny pistol in Carver's drawer.
"Carver talks all that tough guy shit, then keeps the tiniest gun in the universe. Somethin' funny about that. How's Y/N? Is he ok?"
"He's not in a good way. I'm really worried about him" Clementine replied on the verge of tears again.
"They tortured him, Clementine. Way worse than they did me. But that kid refused to break. He's strong. Promise me the two of you will look out for Bec and the baby. I'll die a happy man knowing that."
Clementine looked worried, saying:
"Alvin no, we're all leaving. Together."
Alvin smiled sitting in Carver's chair.
"I ain't fit to move, kid. I've... I've run outta road."
They heard Hank, one of Carver's henchmen, yelling out:
"Let's... No, I'll-- I'll just go up there and shut that thing off!"
"You gotta get outta here. They'll be here any second."
"Thank you..." Clementine smiled, climbing up on the lockers near Y/N's rack and up through the skylight. She looked down to see Hank storm in the office and he and Alvin shoot each other.
—~—
Clementine snuck behind Tavia, Wyatt and Tyler who were on the roof with machine guns, firing at the walkers who were storming toward the compound, and down the skylight she had used the previous evening to steal the radios.

The group ran to the trestle table to get their weapons but were stopped dead by Carver. He stood in front of them with a pissed off look on his face, a 9mm pointing straight at the group:
"You fucking bastards all of you! You wanna disrespect me, fine! You wanna throw away the life I'm tryin' to build for us all, then fuckin' fine! You wanna run off with this dogshit group of crippled fucks, then fine! Be my guest. But I will put a bullet in you and that baby before I let you leave again with my child!"
"It's not yours!" Rebecca roared.
"You don't fucking know that! And until we do, you're not goin' anywhere!" Carver sneered. Clementine edged her way along the shelving behind Carver's head and jumped down with a kick, enough to push Carver off balance, getting punched by Luke and Nick taking his gun.
"Well well aren't we in a quandary. Any of you think you've got enough balls to do the job?" Carver laughed.
"Clem what are you? Where's Alvin" Rebecca asked. The look Clementine gave her back told her everything she needed to know as she cried out in pain, Clementine rushing and hugging her.
"Where do you fuck ups think you're gonna go?" Carver asked, motioning outside with his fore and middle fingers.
"There's thousands of them out there and you think you can-"
Thhp
Carver was cut off, in a fraction of a second, as he screamed in pain, looking at his left hand that contained two missing digits.
Thhp
Thhp
Two more silenced shots in quick succession took out each of Carver's knees as he yelled in pain and fell to the floor.
The group looked at Y/N in horror with the exception of three people- Clem and Kenny who were relieved beyond words that Y/N was up and ok, and Rebecca who wanted to see Carver suffer.
Y/N walked passed the group without saying a word, walked over to the trestle table, picking up the crowbar with the red line down the back and tucked it into his belt. He walked back to stand over Carver, staring down at him coldly.
Carver looked up at Y/N's eyes and saw determination, hatred, fury- all the things Bill had overcompensated in his own demeanour to hide his inadequacies. Here he was, on his deathbed so to speak, and he couldn't hide his cowardice any more.
"No point in begging right?" He whimpered, holding onto his injured hand.
"No" Y/N replied coldly, no emotion visible in his cold tone.
"Well you've used three shots already, just do me clean. Shoot me in the head."
Y/N held up his gun momentarily, causing Carver to whimper and jump, Y/N replying:
"I don't want to waste anymore bullets."
"You don't want to do this. We can walk away" Carver replied, still trying to get out of his comeuppance.
"You can do that can you?" Y/N asked, pointing his gun at a trembling Carver again.
"We can go our separate ways and we will never see each other again" Carver tried to reason.
"You lot get going. I need to tie up loose ends here" Y/N said to the group. Most began to leave, walking over to get their weapons from the trestle table, but Luke yelled:
"Wait we're gonna let him do this? There is not one part of that son of a bitch I hate but that does not make this right"
"No one asked you, Luke" Y/N said coldly.
Only three stayed to watch- Rebecca, Kenny and Clementine. Sarita tried to pull Clementine away saying she wouldn't let her watch this, but Clem pushed her away, saying firmly "it's not your choice."
"It's gonna get messy" Y/N replied as he glanced at Clem. She smiled and answered:
"I know."
Y/N handed his gun with the silencer to Clem and he stopped in front of Carver, who looked up at Y/N terrified.
"We can all walk away, and we will never cross paths again, I promise you" Carver said in a desperate last minute attempt to save his own skin.
"But if you cross someone's path? You told me Bill, up there, that you could do this to anyone, right?"
A dark smile grew on Y/N's face as his hand went to his belt, Carver looking terrified at the crowbar that Y/N pulled out from it. Y/N chuckled:
"Besides, I already made you a promise!"
